communities across pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. when i came out this morning, it was wet on the driveway. >> there are a few scattered lingering showers around this morning and a bit of fog, too. not everybody is seeing them. parts of south jersey and couple spots in delaware seeing rain drops. cloudy skies in wilmington, 69 degrees. philadelphia, 72 degrees right now. we will not see those clouds all day. we will see sunshine today. that's going to warm us up. there is a chance of an isolated shower during the day today. what we're seeing right now, a few scattered showers in southern new castle county, into kent county and delaware and into the atlantic city area. south jersey getting some of the rain drops. no heavy rain right now. there is one moderate shower just to the south of dover right now. that's going to be heading to the east into delaware bay. a few spotty showers this morning. we'll get sunshine, too. in fact, it's more likely the farther north youç go during t day today. back with the futurecast hour by

hour to show you where you can expect to see showers and where you won't. that's in ten minutes. right now, jessica boyington is watching your first alert traffic. >> watching center city over the vine street expressway around 24th street. as you can see, all lanes are open with traffic right now. we don't have to worry about the construction project in place. you have full actress to the schuylkill expressway or 95 whether you're headed westbound or eastbound this morning. let's check on the drive times. 95 southbound from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway is a 13-minute trip. same goes into center city on the schuylkill, eastbound from the blue to the vine. 14 minutes from the blue route, southbound to 95. speeds into the 60s as well. breaking news from overseas, britain is leaving european union and british prime minister who favored staying in the u.s., he's leaving office. that happened just a few minutes ago. people in the uk woke up this morning to learn they will no longer be linked to the rest of europe when it comes to trade, business and politics.

the eu referendum had an immediate impact. the british pound plummeted on concerns the vote will hurt london's standing as a global financial center. british prime minister david cameron said he will resign by this fall. >> the will of the british people is an instruction that must be delivered. it is not a decision that was taken lightly. >> will go down in our history as our independence day! >> britain's decision shatters the experiment in europe yn unity among 28 nations that began just after world war ii. the markets are reacting. prices plunged as soon as it appeared the vote in the uk would be close, the markets in asia, tokyo, last 8% of its value, u.s. futures also dropped. coming up at 5:00 a.m., we'll take a closer look at what to expect today on wall street. 4:03 and 72 degrees outside. locally new this morning, a

tractor-trailer collided with a car at board and walnut in center city. the car ended up underneath the trailer. the man was driving the car -- a man was driving the car, a woman was in the back seat. the driver was shaken up and taken to the hospital. the mother of a 4-year-old girl shot and killed in north philadelphia in a home has been answering questions at police headquarters through the night. many of the details of the shooting remain unclear. we do know 4-year-old was shot in the head in a bedroom in the house on north 20th street yesterday afternoon. police say the girl's 3-year-old sister and her mother were both home but they won't say who pulled the trigger. other family members were nearby and rushed to the scene and the e.r. the victim's cousin struggled to talk about the last time he saw her. >> i was playing with her, i was watching her. >> investigators have the gun and are looking into it. they're also waiting on an

autopsy. a local victim of the terror attack in orlando will be laid to rest today. family and friends will remember akyra murray during a funeral service in west philadelphia. she was just 18 years old. murray graduated from west catholic prep a week before the massacre. now to our trenton bureau. the trenton municipal court will be closed today so staff members may participate in active shooter training. workers will be trained on how to respond if a gunlqn enters the building. after serving 21 years in congress, representative chaka fattah has announced his immediate resignation. that was yesterday. earlier this week, he had said he would stay in office until he was sentenced in october. fattah said he didn't want to be a distraction to the work of his fellow lawmakers. on tuesday he was convicted of racketeering, fraud and money laundering. governor tom wolf will decide whether to call a special election to fill fattah's seat.

pennsylvania senator bob casey testified against fattah during his trial. casey spoke to us yesterday about the jury's decision to convict. >> when someone has those kinds of charges leveled against them and they're convicted of those charges, they have to be held accountable. it damages our system when one elected official is engaged in any kind of corruption or other activities which are illegal. >> philadelphia republicans released a statement following fattah's resignation. the chairman of the city's republican party said, after decades of serving himself and not the people of the 2nd congressional district, the least he could do is resign immediately after his conviction. governor tom wolf will have to call for a special election within the next nine day. that election would then take place 60 days later. well, let the ben simmons era begin.

here's the big moment in brooklyn last night. simmons put on a 76ers hat as he made his way to the podium to receive congratulations from nba commissioner adam silver. the sixers fans went wild as soon as they saw and heard the selection last night. after a string of disappointing seasons, they're hoping simmons will help spark a culture of winning basketball. take a look at the cover of this morning's "philadelphia daily news." it sums up the fans' dream with better days around the ben? families and fans took over eakins oval last night. >> hopefully he brings some excitement to get people out to see the game. >> the fact that he's built up 25 pounds of muscle, the guy is going to work hard.

rest of the area today. currently down to five miles ç visibility. 60s and 70s right now. a few scattered showers in south jersey at this hour. in the suburbs, the numbers are in the 60s. very close to yesterday's level. we'll be in the 80s this afternoon, again today. lower 80s today. we'll see sunshine, too. philadelphia, 72 agrees. that's at 7:00. by late morning, 78 degrees and partly sunny skies this afternoon at 3:00. there will be lingering clouds around. there's even an isolated chance of a pop-up thunderstorm in the suburbs later today. that will be hard to find. you'll see sunshine, dry conditions for the lehigh valley. a nice one. really comfortable to start with, 66 degrees, 81 grows at 3:00 this afternoon. to the south, this is where you're likely to see lingering showers. in delaware, a few spotty showers, partly cloudy at 7:00. a chance of scattered showers in

central and southern delaware. less likely to the north. new jersey will be partly sunny and near 80 degrees this afternoon while at the shore, there's still a chance of some lingering showers, especially to the south. farther to the north, a little less likely. the radar right now shows spotty showers approaching cape may, moving through dover and into cumberland and atlantic county in new jersey but farther to the north, it's already dry in allentown, trenton and philadelphia, much less likely we'll see any shower activity develop this afternoon. it will be lingering with clouds to the south. the futurecast shows that chance of showers continuing this morning. that's 6:00 this morning. you'll slowly clear out for dover while it's dry in wilmington and atlantic city. some showers in cape may. that's at 10:00 this morning. then as we go into the noontime hour, see a few sprinkles in some of the suburbs, isolated showers possible this afternoon. while it's drying out in delaware. that's today.

look at the seven-day forecast and beyond with the ten-day outlook when i'm back in ten minutes. tracy? >> thanks. 4:10. let's check the roads, watch for construction, looking in new jersey right now. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has that. jessica? >> thanks, tracy. we have our cameras from route 38 around airport circle zoomed in on the admiral wilson boulevard. there's still that ongoing construction. not a lot of cars heading back into new jersey right now from the pa side. you can see the lane restrictions. this construction project has been tieing traffic up from the morning commute onward for the rest of each day. through the afternoon and into your evening commutes as well. something you want to pay attention to, find an alternate route when you get off the ben franklin bridge. more construction over the pa turnpike westbound between norristown and valley forge. the left lane is closed. no big problems or delays, westbound or eastbound from route 1 to valley forge, only a 22-minute trip. >> what did they know and when

at camp freedom. >> i think i'm the only one awake here right now. the campers are asleep. the interesting thing about this place, all of the kids have diabetes. these kids are bonding over a single diagnosis. camp freedom is run by the american diabetes association. they've been doing this for 16 summers. this is the most amount of campers they've scene thanks to a sponsorship from a company called nova nortis. these kids test themselves several times a day. the staff says they do respond to emergencies, sometime in the middle of the night. coming up in the next hour, i talked with some of the campers about why this is so important to them. i'll have that for you.

live in swachwenksville, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. in a new deposition, the school's former top lawyer said he advised penn state vice president in 2001 to contact authorities after a coiaint surfaced about jerry sandusky showering with a boy on campus. that former vice president, gary schultz, is now awaiting trial on charges he failed to report expected abuse by sandusky. two suspects from lehigh county arrested with an arsenal. they claim they were on a mission to save a teenaged girl trapped in a heroin house. officers found handguns, body armor and a loaded assault rifle in their truck. friends said the driver merely forgot to unload his vehicle. >> every time he's gone on one of these rescues, there was

never any firearms. they were going there to help. they were going there to rescue. they had their hearts into it, nothing else. >> the friends are organizing a fund-raiser to pay the suspect's legal bills. a high-speed police chase in florida ends with the arrest of a suspected car thief and most of it was caught by police cameras and on radio. >> we got him. we got him in sight. >> yesterday, police spotted a stolen car they'd been looking for since tuesday. catching it proved difficult. the driver hit the gas, led officers on a highway chase at speeds of up to 100 miles an hour. a police car even slid sideways during the pursuit. the officer driving is okay. the chase ended moments later. >> he's wrecking. >> he's going to try to keep going. let's see what happens. >> police said they had to taser the driver to get him under control. the suspect faces a list of

charges. well, volkswagen will pay more than $10 billion in settlements from an emissions cheating scandal. most of the money would come and save hundreds of thousands of car owners in the u.s. the average payment would be $5,000. the automaker admitted rigging certain vehicles to pass emissions tests. this morning, a toddler is missing and hundreds of thousands of people are without power after historic flash flooding in west virginia. rescue crews had to suspend their search for the young boy overnight. he was swept away by swift waters as more than 7 inches of rain fell in the area yesterday. the flooding overloaded rivers, made driving dangerous there, stunned residents as they watched what appeared to be a house on fire floating down a career. the governor declare a state of emergency in 44 counties. in covington, virginia, a

home caught fire. no one was hurt. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 4:19. heading out right now. the temperatures are cooling down. we still have a few clouds in the area. it is dry on boathouse row. some spots of patchy fog exist in some of the suburbs. it will be hard to find in most areas. we got rainfall yesterday. that moisture is coming back as we cool down. lingering showers, a few of them in delaware and south jersey. you won't find them in the city this morning. partly sunny skies, isolated showers are possible, especially in delaware and south jersey. less likely in the suburbs during the day today. a comfortable evening. the humidity will be coming down, though. it's running high in philadelphia. some of the suburbs in delaware and south jersey right now. will be dropping as the day goes on. it's the temperatures that are ç dropping. still warm, 70s for bustleton, society hill, parkside at 69 degrees to start with. here are the showers, scattered showers, south of wilmington

right now. there's still clouds and a sprinkle that's developed in new castle county. these are light showers in south jersey and delaware. they're not going to be an all-day affair. look how it's dried out for williamsport, philadelphia, the suburbs for the lehigh valley, those clouds will be lingering, though, for much of the morning to the south, slowly disappearing during the afternoon. so the ten-day outlook is calling for a warm one today, into the low to mid-80s. some scattered showers in delaware and south jersey, less likely in the pennsylvania suburbs. tomorrow it's sunshine and 86 degrees. we're on track for a beautiful weekend. first weekend of summer will feature sunshine for saturday and sunday, a bit warmer, up to 88 degrees. there's a chance of late showers on monday. most of the day should be dry. and that chance of showers and thunderstorms comes with hot weather for tuesday. 90 degrees. and still a possibility of scattered showers on when as we cool down, more likely in the morning and the afternoon there. thursday, a break from the
