that breaking news we're just getting into nbc 10. officials have confirmed an officer has been shot in folcroft. county just west of the city of philadelphia. authorities confirming that shots were fired. it is at the intersection of glen and folcroft avenue. somebody is transported into the ambulance. sky force 10 is live over mercy fitzgerald hospital where the officer was taken. nbc 10's brandon hudson is on his way to the scene and we have multiple crews on their way there. we see a person being put in that ambulance.

we're just getting information he has been taken by ambulance. he will be transported to another hospital by helicopter and we're just watching this as it is happening so you'll have to -- we're just following this as we go here. we're watching this ambulance leaving this parking lot. we believe that officer is in that ambulance. this officer was on duty, we believe, and was shot at the intersection of glen and folcroft avenue. this is very fluid, of course, we're getting information into our assignment desk and we have dispatched crews. we waited for a half hour, maybe

perhaps an hour to confirm this story before we came on tv with it and sky force 10 is over the scene here as it follows the ambulance on its way to a helicopter where then the officer will be transported. >> we think he is going to the hospital to pick up the patient. >> now i'm being told that this ambulance is on its way to the hospital to pick up the patient. >> folcroft is west of philadelphia across the darby creek and delaware county, over 6,000 people live in folcroft, a very small, not a lot of this

kind of activity. this is mercy fitzgerald hospital, i believe, where the officer is already there. we saw somebody that appeared to be placed in that ambulance, but i'm told that the officer is in the hospital and he will then be transported into that ambulance and i'm told will then be taken by helicopter to a different hospital. as to why he is being transported to a different hospital, it would only be a guess at this point. perhaps they had facilities somewhere else that could help him. we're watching this happen, unfolding from the air from sky force 10. brandon hudson, our nbc 10 reporter is on his way, deanna

durante as well. our reporters on this way with crews to the scene. i believe the pilot for sky force 10 is listening. i haven't gotten the name of who our pilot is. can you hear me? our pilot, sky force 10? i'm not getting a name from our producer. this shooting we believe happened late morning hours, perhaps an hour ago, a little over an hour ago. i'm getting information from our producers as we go here and they are, it has been confirmed that the officer is a male and on duty when he was shot.

set-up in the parking lot of mercy fitzgerald hospital and a helicopter came and landed in the landing zone, they took the stretcher, empty stretcher out of the penn star helicopter and the ambulance drove back to the mercy fitzgerald hospital, it looks like the emergency department where we assume the penn star crew will get the patient ready to be transported via hospital, via helicopter to what we believe is presbyterian. >> hey, dan, do me a favor, tell the pilot, we would like if you guys can go over the crime scene, i believe the investigation is going on there right now. we have a couple of crews on their way there, deanna durante is on her way with the ground crew. if you could head over to the crime scene at glen and folcroft

information. >> as soon as we'll get the information we'll do that. >> if you do that, we may get a better picture of the investigation that is on going right now. and we expect two reporters to be arriving any minute now, brandon hudson and also deanna durante who will be on the ground. they will set-up and get a transmission out to us and then we can begin talking to them to find out what they had and they're making phone calls of course and getting information from their sources as to what happened in folcroft, a small burrough there where this morning it has been confirmed a male officer has been shot. we don't know his condition right now but that officer is here at this hospital, mercy fitzgerald. we expect that officer to be transported in that ambulance with the lights on to an area where he will be air lifted to a

different hospital and this of course is a fluid situation we're working, i'm getting confirmation, and information for you but we don't have a ground crew there that arrived. they will set-up a shot there and we can begin talking to our reporters. meanwhile, we have dispatched sky force 10 to go over the crime scene at the intersection of glen and folcroft avenues. that is not going to be a long trip for them but we're going to take a break right now. we'll go off the air. we'll be back at 11:00, if not before then, if we get information on an officer, a male officer shot on duty in the small delaware burrough of
