have an impact on your wallet. we begin with a tragedy in philadelphia. for the second time in a week, a child is dead because of an accidental shooting. >> today's victim is a 13 year old boy. a group of kids was playing with a gun when it went off and hit him in the head this afternoon. >> police are trying to trace where that gun came from. brandon hudson is live at police headquarters. >> reporter: police believe they have the gun that was used. just like the police, the victim's family and others want to know why the kids had a gun and where it came from. we were there as a neighbor cried after hearing a bullet struck a child she knew. later on, the 13-year-old's family returned to the scene where he was shot in the head and died. loved ones were too upset to talk on camera, but we met a family friend who described what he saw behind this home on east walnut lane.

>> i ran, saw him back there, i went to go get his dad. his dad tried to pick him up. it was gory. >> reporter: sly hundley says seeing that reminded him of his own younger brother's death. he was good friends with the victim's dad. >> he was cool. >> reporter: moments after the shooting, philadelphia police arrived. detectives say a group of juveniles were playing with the guchb in the back yard when it accidently fired. we saw crime scene investigators retrieve what they believe was the weapon. >> this child didn't get a chance to realize his dreams. >> reporter: anti-violence advocates rushed to the scene. >> we need more men to step up and police our communities. we can eliminate a lot of these tr tragedies. >> reporter: we're working to find out if police have the shooter in custody. brandon hudson, nbc 10 news.

just last week a 4-year-old died after accidently shooting herself at her no, ma'home in n philadelphia. that mother is charged with first degree murder and an arrest warrant has been issued for the mother's boyfriend. we're hearing from the man car jacked and robbed at his own home. police are hoping the public can help find the suspect, and we have surveillance video. you can still see faint marks on arsenio lopez's neck from the attack. a confrontation that began outside this christian express store on fifth street in the city's logan section earlier this month. his nephew translated for us, telling nbc 10 his uncle had just deposited cash at the store when a woman with a gun seen in these surveillance images confronted him outside, demanded money and forced him to drive here to his apartment. lopez says once they got inside,

the suspect began grabbing valuables, including cash, jewelry and a tablet. when he tried to stop the suspect, the suspect that you him down on the bed and started choking him. the confrontation ended when the suspect grabbed lopez's car keys and took off in his 2000 ford focus. that suspect's still at large. police say the suspect has a tattoo on the left leg. tomorrow a man could learn his fate for kidnapping a woman off a difl street in a case that made national headlines. this video is hard to forget. you see barnes dragging the woman as she tries to fight him off. it happened in 2014. days later, police found him and the victim in maryland. barnes pleaded guilty in the case and could be sentenced tomorrow. prosecutors want him to spend 35 years in prison. tonight new jersey governor chris christie is racing to seal the deal on a gas tax hike

before the holiday weekend. >> it would be an increase of 23 cents per gallon. if you have a 20-gallon tank, it could cost an extra $4.60 every time you fill up. there is strong opposition in the senate. >> this is one piece of the plan designed to put money back in people's pockets. >> reporter: the governors was stressing that as he faced the cameras, saying there is a tax cut as part of this compromise, but everybody is talking about that gas tax increase, how much more you could pay at the pump. a treasurer laid out the number. it's over at shops where you could save an average of 4 hundred dollars per year. new jersey is well-known for gas stations where someone else always pumps for you. the price attracts people from the other side of the bridge. the difference from philly to this camden station, more than

$1. >> i'm stopping in new jersey specifically because the gas is cheaper. >> reporter: but those days may soon be over. >> i think it's a load of crap. and they just want to take our money and pocket it. >> reporter: as the transportation fund runs out of money, governor christie and one chamber approved of raising the gas tax. >> there's much more to do between now and tomorrow's session. >> reporter: christie insists it will improve roads and bridges while giving shoppers a break by scaling back sales taxes from 7% to 6%. >> i expect when all the press releases and talking is done, that this will settle because it's the right thing to do. >> reporter: taxpayers worry about education and pension obligations. >> money has to come from somewhere. there's no free lunch. it comes from someplace, doesn't it? it doesn't seem to balance out. >> reporter: the governor hinted it would be a long day in

exhibition at the airport. and hoagy day at independence mall. at 5:00 p.m. head over to the mummers museum to learn about the culture of the mummers. hang around for a summer mummer concert. that starts at 8:00. or you can head over to penn's landing for "national treasure." tap the nbc 10 app and see the calendar of events, including monday's concert at 5:00 p.m. we're less than a month away now from the democratic national convention in philadelphia. and tomorrow we'll get a colorful reminder. crews will begin insfauling these so-called donkeys around town. the fiberglass creations will be on display through september. there are 57 in all. and you'll see them at different philly landmarks. and those aren't the only signs pointing to the dnc. nbc was in center city where

they began hanging street banners, part of a comprehensive welcome campaign, more than 600 of these signs will be on does play. and you might have expected political stars in town for the convention and it turns out music stars will be here as well. lady gaga, lenny kravitz and dj jazzy jeff will draw people across the river to camden. they're performing a free conferenco concert at the last day of the convention. and it's invitation only. members of a local gym are showing support from injured officer chris dornen. en the owner of the gym came up with the idea because she grew up just a few blocks away from the police department. all money raised at this night's workout will go to help officer dorman. i left the hospital monday three days after being shot seven

times wheel tim times while he was conducting a drug investigation. he still has more surgery ahead. a camden cabdriver is recovering after he was robbed and stabbed by a passenger. surveillance video shows the suspect climbing out of a cab after a crash. police say the cabby crashed into a parked van to get attention as he was being stabbed. it all began after midnight when for tuna refused to take the suspect to a remote area of north camden. >> the suspect then asked for change for a $50 bill. at which time, he then began to attack the cabdriver. he >> fortuna was stabbed several times. this is video of him in his hospital bed. doctors expect him to make a full recould hakocoverrecovery. suspect is still on the loose. i'm keith jones here with these passengers. hear what they had to say about emergency evacuation next at

a show of support tonight in camden county for the victims of the orlando terror attack. a march for love was held in cooper river park to honor the victims. participants were encouraged to wear rainbow colors. turkish authorities say they are increasingly convinced the islamic state group was behind the airport attack that left

more than 40 people dead. tonight we have a clearer timeline of the attack. one of the bombers entered the terminal, opened fire and blew himself up knnear the x-ray machine. the second went to departure and blew himself up. and the third waited outside and blew himself up as people ran out in a panic. a plan caught fire taking off from seattle today. as keith jones reports, after a four-hour delay, the passengers finally made it to their destination. >> reporter: these passengers are happy to be reunited with their bag and aftergagbaggage. >> my plane's on fire! >> reporter: he was among the passengers taxiing when a fire sparked. >> the captain came on and said there's a problem. another pilot noticed smoke.

>> reporter: but john says he saw smoke, then firefighters. >> they had a very quick response. a lot of eyeballs looking at the airfield at the time. so we were able to quickly respond. >> reporter: firefighters knocked down the small fire cause the by a spark in the auxiliary power unit below the tail section. the plane made it back to the gate under its own power. >> they took care of it pretty well. it was frustrating. >> reporter: she wasn't happy with the nearly full-day delay. but they arrived with a memory they'll never forget. >> the crew, passengers, everybody was very calm. you wouldn't have known it was a fire until we got back to the gate, and we looked at the internet. it was all over the internet. >> reporter: the plane that was on fire is now being inspected. luckily, there were no injuries reported. reporting at philadelphia airport, keith jones. a pennsylvania invasion is on. >> millions of unwelcome guesses are plaguing a local community.

a massive swarm of may flies has descended on the susquehanna valley. they started showing up last night. this guy took out his leaf blower to get rid of the pesky critters. >> it sounded like sleet was hitting the car. >> it wasn't sleet. >> no, it was the may flies. >> they hatch from spring to fall in large numbers. they only have an adult life-span of about a day. that's quick. >> kind of makes you itchy just thinking about it. in florida, we deal with lovebugs. if you've ever seen those, all over your car when you're driving. no fun to clean that off. but as we go into this weekend, hopefully we won't have to deal with the bugs. we have nice weather for the 4th of july. but if you are starting the weekend early, like friday, we will dealing with showers and thunderstorms. tomorrow is a nice day, it will

be nice and dry. don't forget with your neighborhood weather is scrolling at the bottom of the screen. for tomorrow, neighborhood temperatures will be a little warmer than today. we're talking about 87 degrees in reading. mostly sunny, bethlehem, 86 degrees. fairmont, close to 90 degrees. new jersey neighborhoods coming in around 87. 88 degrees trenton. avalon and atlantic city, upper 80s in dover. and we're talking about thunderstorms, some of them could be early in the day friday. but i think quite a few will be in the afternoon and evening, so if you have friday plans with any fire work festivities maybe, keep an eye to the sky. take an umbrella with you, because we expect it to be a wet day for some portions of your friday. then we go into 4th of july weekend, hot and dry, some

models are trying to show a little bit of rain trying to sneak in late monday. this is tomorrow, though, or this is friday, excuse me. friday is looking decent in the morning, but we could see a couple showers trying to pop up. can't rule out a thunderstorm in the afternoon friday. now here's friday 4:30 in the afternoon. we could see more widespread showers and thunderstorms for the evening commute and lingering into friday night. so here's 10:00 p.m. we won't be out of the woods yet, not until saturday. here is a more extended look at your forecast, starting with saturday, high pressure stays in kroem for saturday. that's going to keep us nice and dry even as we go through sunday. that's good news for your 4th of july weekend. that rain stays just to the south. but then by monday, some model, not all of them, it just started updating today, some models are showing a little bit of brain trying to move in mostly south of philadelphia, later monday night. we'll get more updates into tomorrow and tomorrow afternoon

and tomorrow evening. so we'll have a better idea on what your 4th of july is looking like. but for saturday at penn's landing, it's looking pretty good. 80 degrees for the philadelphia orchestra concert. by 9:30, the fireworks start, and we will be nice and dry for that with temperatures in the 70s. so if you're heading to the shore, looking good. saturday and sunday, temperatures right around the low 80s. by 4th of july monday, there is a chance we could see late-day showers, but, again, we're going to keep watching that for you, because that forecast could be tweaked a little bit. either way, know that your 4th of july weekend is going to be sunny and nice and dry. the uv index is going to be high, so you could get a sunburn in about 15 minutes. saturday, sunday, monday, all looking really good, withto uppr 80s. but we're going to keep our eye on this rain, the potential for rain as we go into monday night.
