abduction alive. good evening, i'm jackqua lynn london. >> that made headlines when we first saw it in 2014. >> and today the woman faced her abductor in the courtroom. she spoke as he was sentenced to 35 years in prison. nbc 10's brandon hudson joins us live. >> reporter: if dellvin barnes serves his entire sentence, i he'll be in his 70s. she survived the kidnapping, a feat that surprised fbi agents. when nbc 10 sat down with the victim's grandmother, she was relieved. >> my grandmother didn't share the story because everything was basically hush-hush until now. >> reporter: nearly two years after dell vin barnes kidnapped her grand daughter, a judges

sentenced barnes to 35 years in prison. we learned what the woman did to stay alive after she was snatched and was kept for three days in maryland. a survivor's tale that amazed her grandmother. >> she said she spent a lot of time in the trunk thinking about how am i going to approach this and do to remain alive. >> reporter: we caught up with a fbi special agent. and they gave us more insight on the daring search and rescue in 2014, saying the victim spoke to barnes and showed empathy. she got him to use an atm card at a machine that use add camera. >> she got him to feel comfortable with her, she made him care about her. >> the miracle of this case was that she was found alive. >> reporter: even after the victim returned home and the court hearings began, her grandmother says it was ay is f

have closure. breaking news from philadelphia city hall. that's where a tractor-trailer somehow crashed into a light pole, knocked it down. skyforce 10 was above the scene. you can see it happened right there on the curve. no one was hurt, but that truck driver having a bad night tonight. another big story, the weather. >> take a look at first alert radar. showers and storms are heading our way, the last thing you probably want to hear heading into the 4th of july weekend. >> let's bring in glenn hurricane schwartz. when is this going to hit us? >> it's going to hit some parts of the area by daybreak tomorrow. some moisture offshore, but the area that's building up is in virginia. it's moving straight up the coast. and so by daybreak, it could hit parts of delaware or even the jersey shore. as we go through the night, we're starting off with clear skies, but even in the middle of the night, we have a chance of

showers in atlantic city. same thing tomorrow morning. there will be some sunshine in parts of the area. but as we go through the day, an increasing threat of showers and thunderstorms. so tomorrow, we're in for a stormy day. by 5:00, the one place where it's not raining, according to the computer model, is in atlantic city. they'll get theirs, again, problem by by tomorrow evening. we'll talk more about the timing of tomorrow's rain and the rest of the weekend forecast in a few minutes. new at 11:00, hundreds of dui cases in philadelphia could be reviewed after an expired solution was used in the testing of the city's breathalyzer machines. an attorney notified the police department about the discovery yesterday. the instruments were immediately taken out of service, tested with a new solution and returned to service that same day. state guidelines mandates that the tests be completed once a year. the attorney estimates as many

as 1,000 dui cases could be affected. >> there's going to be cases that will be thrown out and cases that people have already been convicted of that should be thrown out and people should have the ability to appeal, even if they've already served a penalty. >> there was a similar incident in 2011 when a mis calibratcali breathlize liez ialyzer was in. a man's sentence was called in question and he was granted a new trial. after 16 years in prison, he gets a new shot of freedom. saeid was accused of killing his girlfriend. she was found strangled and in a shallow grave. they relied on a testimony of an acquaintance who claimed he helped bury the woman.

saeid maintained his innocence. >> nobody was able to provide any shred of evidence. i had no reason to kill her. >> reporter: the pod cast raised questions about the strength of the prosecution case and the lawyer. a woman signed an affidavit saying she was with saeid at the time of the supposed killing. late today, a huge payoff. a judge ordered a new trial, citing questions about the reliability of cell tower location evidence used to show where he is what when the crime was committed. his legal team said tonight saeid's family is overjoyed. >> they were at times speechless, so i had to check and make sure the phone line had not gotten cut off. but they are delighted. >> reporter: immediate reaction on social media as well. one woman tweeting, she was sitting on the bohe beach alone tears of joy streaming down her face. >> saeid's attorney say they

expect the state may appeal this ruling. there's been no reaction from lee's family tonight. two teenagers are now charged in the accidental shooting that killed a 13-year-old. it happened yesterday afternoon in germantown. officers say the teenagers loaded the gun and it fired hitting a 13 year old in the face. his family just wants privacy. >> our family right now is grieving beyond what i ever could imagine. >> you can understand that. two boys are facing charges. a 15-year-old is charged with involuntary manslaughter. a 17 year old is charged with recklessly endangering another person. new at 11:00. get ready for traffic backups

during the convention. they have decided not to ban rush hour protests. and there's one coming to broad street on july 25th. this is a look from the kimmel center camera. a group will be marching to the area where the convention takes place. at first the city said it wouldn't be allowed, but eventually, they decided to issue a permit to monitor the protest that would likely happen anyway. now to wa wa welcome america. america's birthday is almost here. >> day four of the festival wraps up with philadelphia favorites. we were just hearing some of that there. the south philadelphia string band taking the stage at the mummers museum for a free concert. lots of people came out to enjoy the music, move around a bit and the mummery which included strumming. philly at the movies held a free screening of "national

stop driving them. this takata air bag was made eight years ago, but those who haven't made the fix face serious danger. a budget bill is on the desk, but the governlawmakers h figured out how to raise all the money. the governor issued a statement saying he wouldn't sign the bill without a way to pay for it. the bill becomes law in ten days unless he signs it or vee toes before then. governor chris christie signed a budget plan. it's a $30.5 million budget. he used line-item veto to cut $300 million in funding that he says the state can't support. he and lawmakers are still

>> you really got to do something about the standing water. >> reporter: the most vicious are the asian tiger mosquito. >> they scare me. they really do. >> reporter: as you're getting ready for the 4th of july barbecues, take a look around. it only takes a bottle cap full of water for the asian tigers to lay eggs. the celebrations will go on in wildwood this weekend, even though one of the main events has been canceled. the philly pop show for saturday has been scrapped. the pops were supposed to be part of the celebrate america weekend, but organizers tell us only 85 tickets were sold. the rest of the events will go on as planned in wildwood. here in philly, wawa is going on. hurpds of associates got together at 4:00 this morning to turn six tons of ingredients

>> and boy, did he do that. >> what a sensation. >> it will be fun to hear. we're tracking showers and thunderstorms for part of the weekend. >> and a small part of the weekend. the first part of the weekend, there's nothing on the radar right now close by, but we have those showers in virginia. we have another area in north carolina that's moving up in our direction as well. so, after a couple of beautiful days, we do have friday thunderstorms that are on the way. we might get some showers, especially delaware and south jersey, even in the morning hours through the morning rush, not necessarily as heavy as what we're going to see later in the day. but as we get the heat and humidity in the day, we're going to see more and more of these showers. first you see the greens indicating generally lighter activity, but now you're seeing some of the yellows and reds by the afternoon rush and into the early evening hours with thunderstorms. if they get organized into lines, they're capable of

producing strong, gusty winds and have a lot of lightning, but they're moving off and setting us up for really nice weather on saturday. and it looks like it's another great weekend overall. at least the saturday and sunday portion of this. philadelphia, 86 degree, lower humidity on saturday. the crowds may start to increase a little bit sunday and especially on monday. the best chance of any kind of rain for the rest of the holiday weekend will be at the jersey shore and on delaware on monday, especially later in the day and at night. you also notice that the jersey shore, of course, is cooler with the sea breeze coming in off of the ocean. that if really isn't that cool, at 73 degrees. now we've got some issues, perhaps, for the penn's landing event tomorrow evening. at least the beginning of it. we're going to be seeing drying conditions as we go through the night. so the conditions will improve there. the 4th of july itself for the

parade, we start off with some high clouds, and then it just gets cloudier and cloudier, but not necessarily rainy. as we go through the 4th of july in the afternoon. so we're not in bad shape at all until we get to monday night or tuesday. tomorrow, that's the stormy day. lansdale at 85. it's not going to rain all day, but a lot of places are going to see rain by the end of the day tomorrow. and at the shore, we're going to find warmer weather generally, at the delaware beaches than at the jersey shore, because of the wind direction, and that ocean, nice and warm. and we'll be right back.
