holiday weekend. good evening, i'm jaclyn london. >> and i'm jay rosenfield. streets and neighborhoods left really unrecognizable. the floodwater rose fast, and there was really nowhere to go. >> neighborhoods are still trying to dry out tonight. >> reporter: check this out, water from a flooded back yard is flowing down this driveway into a drain which was overwhelmed for hours tonight. there was just too much water that came too quickly. skyforce 10 above a shopping center shows a parking lot turned into a lake. the water rushed into this sdranded delivery truck. nearby passenger cars were halfway submerged. >> it got crazy. >> reporter: jose cruz knew it was going to rain. but he did not expect water to end up inside his car. >> all this is wet. everything is wet. >> reporter: this home looked like an island. the muddy water filled in around

it. the. >> it happens often and nobody helps us. >> reporter: neighbors have complained about the drainage system before. this time someone grabbed a rake and tried to free debris. this man waded into his back yard to free his dog. but other animals did not survive. >> the chickens got drowned. >> reporter: so many streets flooded, drivers felt like they didn't have a choice but to go through. >> it felt like i was in a river or ocean or something. it was just really, really devastating, really, really frightening. >> reporter: with water rising above her seat, firefighters pushed her free. now her car won't start. >> it was too much, just too much, and i've never seen it like this before. >> reporter: the skies finally did clear, but families out here have a lot of work to do to make sure their yards are cleaned up and ready for events planned for this holiday. nbc 10 news. the. one viewer says he spotted what appears to be a funnel

cloud. >> he says he recorded this video. we have not confirmed exactly what we're seeing here. >> let's bring in first alert chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz. is a funnel cloud possible with the weather we saw tonight? >> yes, and in that area, we did detect rotation in the clouds. the so we saw tremendous amountf rain. but we have showers in the poconos, that's just a temporary thing, but what we're going to see through the night, mostly clear skies. nice and comfortable in the morning. temperatures in the upper 50s to near 60 in many of the suburbs. the humidity is down.

it's just a spectacular day. it's going to be the nicest day of the weekend on saturday. temperatures getting above the 80 degree mark. no rain anywhere in the air yeah. can't promise the same for the entire fourth of july weekend. and we'll see what areas are most likely to see some in just a few minutes. all right, glenn, and we are getting incredible pictures from people all around the area. this is what tyler braun's yard looked like. you can see how flooded it is. when news happens, make sure to send your pictures and video. it's easy with the nbc 10 app. the breathtaking sight along the delaware river as fireworks lit up the night sky. it's not the fourth of july yet, but wa wa is in full swing.

[ cheering ] >> reporter: at the roller rink over to my right. and over to my left we have people playing corn hole. and despite the rain, it turned out to be a nice night in a great way to start the holiday weekend. ♪ the first of many fireworks displays in philadelphia this july 4th weekend. a crowd lined up along penn's landing to watch the show light up the night's sky from a barge on the delaware river. but before the fireworks took center stage, the philadelphia orchestra performed a free concert. fans were treated to a sweet serenade from a special guest. ♪ the 15-year-old with the angelic voice who sang for pope francis

last year. tonight was his first performance with the orchestra. >> i was supposed to debut with the orchestra in december. but it was sold out. >> reporter: a brief shower moved through penn's landing this afternoon, but we later found out it wasn't enough to keep people away. they packed the amphitheater once the clouds parted. some brought their own food for an informal picnic. >> i think this is one of the reasons i love philly. in the summertime, it's so much fun. there's always something going on. >> reporter: others brought family from out of town. >> i didn't even know what was here, man, i brought them out. they're from out of town. >> reporter: a nice little surprise. >> yeah. there you go. >> reporter: well, hey, look, we come back live here at the roller rink. we made new friends, we have a cheerleader in the back for us. going right over the same spot. and what do we end up with? inches, many inches, now what do we have now? we have some showers moving up through the poconos and into pars of burks county. that's not anything to really worry about. that will weaken. this is the doppler estimated rainfall. a lot of places didn't get any rain today, but look at the bull's eye down here in south jersey, again, from vine land and just south. we have reports of 3, 4, 5, 6 inches of rain. many of those reports came within two hours. now what do we expect for tomorrow? the nicest day of the weekend, that's what we expect. so the u.s. army band concert's looking good tomorrow night. the fireworks, looking good as well. but this is where we're looking. to the south. this is a latest computer model just in minutes ago. sunday afternoon, we're checking out the clouds and even a chance of a little bit of right rain

further to the south. and the latest model here is keeping most of the rain on the fourth of july down to our south. washington certainly going to get hit with it. but the best chance of any kind of rain is delaware, especially south delaware and extreme south jersey, including the jersey shore. and eventually, we'll all get some of that rain by tuesday. so, for the parade in philadelphia, i'm just predicting cloudy skies at this moment. the chance of rain is not zero, but it's not high enough to put drops in here. for the concert, 82 degrees, fireworks, 76 degrees. and, as we look at the weekend overall, again, saturday's the nicest day. sunday we see some clouds increase. of course we get the sea freeze at the jersey shore. and monday, the best chance of rain, keeping the temperatures down, jersey shore and the delaware beaches, the farther north you go, like the lehigh valley, it may be a pretty nice day again. and the poconos, looks like it's going to be a nice day tomorrow,

problem with the orangutans. they keep getting out. this one escaped from her enclosure, climbing up on that park sign. and then zoo officials tranquilized it. and just weeks ago, the park was forced to round up a different orangutan that skipped out of his enclosure. >> woo. >> that's a stunning sight. it's always stunning in philadelphia when a hit crew comes to town. >> they got in on the fun posing for pictures with danny devito and other cast members. the show is in the 12th season, the first time in two years the crew has returned to philadelphia. hopefully the sun was shining on the phillies. ♪ hey!
