the wynnwood station coming out of the city. this is the first time we've seen trains in the 90 minutes we've been here. i believe this is a septa train sitting on the rails. they were urging passengers to use a shuttle. not too long ago, we spoke to a passenger who told us that he took the uber from wherever his train stopped at because of these delays, because of the brush fire. to the wynnwood station. firefighters here about 30 minutes, 30, 45 minutes ago, they were checking out the station walking up and down the platform for about ten minutes with a fire extinguisher. fires at three different locations between city avenue and the wynnwood ardmore stations. at least nine fire crews are responding. calls came in around 4:30 this afternoon. no injuries, no evacuations to report. amtrak as you may have seen in some of the video is assisting with this scene.

now, we are also investigating the cause of the fires. once we find out some more of those questions, we'll try to talk to people, find out what their delay was like this afternoon. live in wynnwood, brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. >> now let's look at the delays. if you are waiting for your loved one to get home, 542 is 41 minutes later. the 536 to northtown is a half hour late. >> monique braxton is at suburb station. are you getting an earful from frustrated passengers? >> reporter: well, i guess you could say i am. everybody is hot. they're trying not to be bothered. folks saying, look at the boards. if you look at the boards, most of the trains leaving suburban station are running late. not good news this afternoon. septa's operations manager said they hope to know why there's a

defect and fix or replace the trains involved by the end of the summer. >> at the end of the day, it's the safety of our passengers that we're concerned about. >> reporter: that's what the operations manager said when i asked him about what his riders are calling septa pocalypse. the agency was forced to go to a modified saturday service and left thousands of regional passengers searching for another way to work. >> i'm taking alternative routes. usually the bus. >> is it making your commute longer? >> much longer, yeah. >> how long? >> about twice as long. about two hours. >> are you thinking of an alternative plan? >> possibly the subway. but where are you going to park? >> reporter: we took their concerns to the manager of operations at septa. how many parking spaces are you providing? >> 1,600 parking spaces. we have 300 spaces on columbus

boulevard next to festival pier, spring garden station. our garages at frankfurt transportation center still has vacancies. and our garage at norristown. >> reporter: some this morning ask about shuttle buses. during our one-on-one conversation, hopkins said that's not a viable option. but leasing rail cars from other city transportation agencies is. >> the train sets are five cars, six, or eight cars long. if we're able to get a full train set, that's our goal. >> reporter: right now the goal of many we spoke with is a contingency plan. >> i'm not sure which is the worst option at this point. just sitting on the -- or standing on the train with everybody, which is kind of camarader camaraderie, or driving in my car sitting on the road waiting in traffic. >> reporter: the operations manager tells us right now it's all hands on deck. 50 engineers are working around the clock to repair and restore

center campus center. nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here now. >> and glenn, the heat continues tomorrow. >> yeah. of course, in the center of the city, it gets even hotter. the more concrete there is around the area, the hotter the temperatures during the day, keeps the heat in at night. and we have a first alert out for the next couple of days because of this extreme heat. from philadelphia to near pea suburbs, parts of new jersey, parts of delaware, doesn't include the jersey shore, doesn't include the lehigh valley or poconos, this is for thursday and friday for the extreme heat and humidity combination that's going to make it feel like it's over a hundred degrees. plus we have poor air quality. we got up to 89 yesterday. 94 was the official high today. 97 tomorrow and friday. average high is only 87. that's a pretty guaranteed heat wave there. and the hottest weather of the season, at least so far.

as we go into tomorrow, we're starting off very warm, and of course, getting hotter. 78 degrees by 7:00 a.m. not quite as hot in the suburbs. but that's still pretty warm. and then a chance of a couple of thunderstorms in parts of the area. especially north and west during the afternoon. but like i said, it gets even hotter after that. more on how hot it gets, and when it gets better, in a few minutes. >> glenn, we have this just in. case closed. attorney general loretta lynch says the investigation into hillary clinton's e-mails is now complete. and she will not face criminal charges. the fbi director just yesterday, you recall, recommended prosecutors not bring any charges in that e-mail scandal. hillary clinton -- >> we need to write a new chapter in the american dream and it sure cannot be chapter 11. >> targeting donald trump's

philadelphia. snoop dogg will perform at a unity party on july 28th, last night at the convention, that concert will be at the electric factory. a 13-year-old boy is recovering tonight, the victim of a road rage shooting in hunting park. police say it all started when a car headed southbound on darion street near bristol. almost hit a person. the people inside the car got into a shouting match with the people on the street before driving off. but police say the car returned, and a man jumped out and fired eight shots before the car drove off. the boy was hit in the leg, and arm, but he is expected to be okay. a mega hospital merger is finally complete. jefferson and aria health care are now one. the two now have a combined 23,000 employees. they have 5,000 doctors and more than 5,700 nurses. the deal's been two years in the making. dogs living in filth. the bucks county spca rescued 13

animals from one home in warwick. there were eight siberian huskies, including two puppies, a golden retriever, a cat, rabbits and a turtle. the owners of the home are accused of selling the puppies on facebook. we're told the huskies has a highly contagious disease and did not get medical treatment. some of the pets did not even have a bowl of water. charges are pending against the owners. the leader of the roman catholic archdiocese of philadelphia set new guidelines about who can receive communion. he said parishioners who get divorced and remarried should abstain from sex and live like brother and sister. same-sex couples must also be celibate to receive communion. the instructions to parishioners stem from pope francis' statement on family life released back in april. next on nbc 10 news at 6:00,

we have breaking news from center city. market and about 13th here, a group of protesters that decided to protest that louisiana man who was shot and killed by police. this protest, again, on market at 13th. they're heading toward the delaware river. background here, video appears to show this killing. and we're going to show that to you. you see two officers wrestling a man to the ground. this was outside a convenience store in baton rouge before police fired the deadly shots. the victim was alton sterling. he was selling cds outside a convenience store there. the u.s. justice department is now investigating. the two white baton rouge police officers involved. a full story coming up at 6:30. back here at home, three american flags stolen in north wildwood over the july 4th weekend. >> one of those flags dates back to the vietnam war, and is truly irreplaceable. jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg has the family's

emotional plea to get it back. . >> reporter: now it's gone. tom corcoran said his heart sank when he found out someone stole a military issued american flag just like this in memory of his brother. >> it's really the only thing that we have left since his body was never recovered. >> reporter: the family received the flag after navy seaman patrick corcoran was killed in the vietnam war in 1969. for the last decade, it's flown once a year next door to their summer home on a sturdy flagpole outside a knneighbor's house. this is a smaller one. but on july 4th morning, that neighbor, tom shaffer, himself an army veteran, discovered those irreplaceable stars and stripes were gone. >> my wife cried her eyes out, when we had to tell them. it was brutal. >> reporter: usually the flag is raised on memorial day. but because of rain this year,

until friday at 6:00 p.m. from northern delaware through the philadelphia region. and up toward trenton. it continues to be hot. 93 degrees. nothing but sunshine in philadelphia. we've got sunshine all across the area. 91 lehigh valley. p.a. suburbs, 92, parts of new jersey. and in philadelphia itself, even though it's 93 at the airport, 97 in penn's port. the closer you get to center city, the hotter it is when you have the sunshine here. 94 at somerton. winchester park at 93 degrees. it's going to be hotter than that tomorrow. hard to believe. nothing on the radar except for isolated showers in southern delaware earlier today. we do have more action in kentucky. that is going to be affecting us in a couple of days. the heat wave, yeah, that's a sure bet.

you only need three days of 90-plus, and we have that, and more. today's hay was 94, feeling like about 98 because of the high humidity. thursday and friday, 97, feeling closer to 104. and then saturday, it's still high, but not as humid. and so that's why it won't feel quite as bad as thursday and friday. we may have some cooling thunderstorms tomorrow. the morning is dry. it could get rained on, you might consider yourself lucky, because it will be so hot. but some locally heavy rain. at least for a little while. then everything dies down tomorrow night. builds back up on friday. and then this system comes in from the west for friday evening. and then on saturday, we start drying out for the most part. there we are, drier on saturday. i don't have any rain in the forecast for philadelphia. or the p.a. suburbs.

we do have scattered storms the next two days. lehigh valley drying out as well. may not even hit 90 on saturday. i still have the threat of some thunderstorms, new jersey, the jersey shore for saturday. we can separate the forecast in different areas, based on the weather conditions. of course, it's cooler at the shore with that sea breeze coming in. the ten-day outlook has all the that extreme heat through saturday. and then sunday and monday look really nice. lower humidity. nice and comfortable tuesday, too. and then the heat starts to build. more thunderstorms by next friday. i'm danny in comcast sports net. maybe they can postpone the mlb all-star break so the phillies can keep their roll going. when you're the parent of a disabled child,

the breakfast on broad, dykstra said he was convicted of bankruptcy fraud which landed him in jail. that made him start to get his act together. >> it really became my drug, you know? i just wanted more, and more, and more. so what happened is, it put me in areas where sometimes i got stupid overnight. but when you have a lot of balls in the air and something goes wrong, i couldn't recover from it. because it was just too much going on. >> the summer league game in utah tomorrow against the jazz, looks like simmons will play. simmons scored ten points monday night before leaving with cramps. they take on the jazz tomorrow

update on our breaking news from center city. live over 15th and sansome. as you see this group of protesters marching in the street. keeping cars from moving. they're also carrying a banner there. they are protesting the death of a louisiana man shot by two police officers. that protest, again, 15th and sansome, approximately. a group of about 50 to 100 people now marching. the u.s. justice department is now investigating the two police officers involved in baton rouge. "nbc nightly news" will have a full report coming up right after this broadcast. the police chief of louisiana asking that if people protest, they do it peacefully. that seems to be peaceful, just blocking some traffic.
