rally in response to the recent officer-involved shootings in other cities this week. this is video that our sister station put out on its facebook page. reports are that the gunman is still on the loose. one officer has reportedly been taken to the hospital. we don't have any word on the extent of their injuries. the situation is still unfolding. we will continue to follow this breaking news and bring you updates as soon as they come in. good evening. i'm jacquelyn london. >> the nation grapples from the fallout of the two deadly shootings this week. a black man was killed in baton rouge, louisiana. then in st. paul, minnesota. we begin with the shooting in minnesota. >> a black couple was pulled over for a broken taillight when gun fire erupted. >> stay with me. >> she had her cell phone

running as police officers shot and killed her boyfriend. they were pulled over around 9:00 for a broken taillight on the way home from the grocery store. her 4-year-old in the back seat. 15 minutes went by with no medical attention. police consoling the officer who fired. >> he let the officer know. officer, i have a firearm on me. i began to yell, but he's licensed to carry. after that he began to take off shoots. ba, ba, ba, ba, don't move! don't move! >> the officer involved in this shooting is on paid leave. there are calls for the justice department to stand in. they stand ready to assist. the minnesota shooting's just the tip of the iceberg. >> outrage continues to grow after tuesday's deadly shooting in louisiana. today we learned more about the officers involved. according to more than 600 pages

of disciplinary records obtained by nbc news, blain salmony and the other officer had reports on them. both are now on leave. and president obama is speaking out for the first time about this week's police-involved shootings in louisiana and minnesota that left those two men dead. >> speaking from poland ahead of a nato summit, the president said that the hootishootings sh that this issue is much bigger than just race. >> this is not just a black issue, not just a hispanic issue. it's an american issue that all fair-minded people should be concerned. >> the president says law enforcement officers nationwide have a tough job and noted the shootings show that biases must be rooted out within police

forces. >> not only in dallas, there were protests from st. paul to new york to even here in philly where hundreds of demonstrators shut down streets in center city. drew smith is live with more on those protests. >> reporter: there have been sporadic protests through the night. there's still a group of people down here who were blocking broad street. but the main event was earlier. hundreds of people were frustrated with what they're seeing around the country and want change here. this protest began with a prayer. >> god, we are tired of teaching our children how to survive police. >> reporter: officials with the ame church here in philly said they need to make a statement for their people who are at risk. >> this is an occasion where the church has to leave its comfortable pews and come to the streets. >> i believe that we will win! >> reporter: hundreds made their

way from the convention center to market street to express disgust at the recent police shootings of black men. >> it could be me. i've never had that terrible thing happen, but i've been stopped for no reason at all. >> we still have a lot of work to do. and half of the battle is recognizing that and being aware of that. >> reporter: the department has upped its training on fair and impartial policing, but the activists want more account. >> for officers. >> we need to do this together. listen to the black community and do our part. >> and we have video from some of those late protests tonight, those people headed down from temple university, down here to city hall, blocking traffic as they went. police followed behind, and they report that it was a peaceful protest. no arrests there either. also the people who were here for that ame convention will be hearing from one of the presidential candidates

tomorrow. hillary clinton will be addressing them. we'll see if she speaks about this issue. nbc 10 news. we want to go back now to that breaking news that ware' following in dallas. the nbc station reporting two police officers have been shot. this was during a protest and rally in response to the recent officer-involved shootings in the other cities we mentioned. still a very fluid situation. dallas police department is asking people to please be patient as they sort out information on an active scene. one officer has reportedly been taken to the hospital. we're working to get more information on this story. we'll bring that to you as soon as that becomes available. another big story we're following, the dangerous heat. we are under a first alert because of it. and some of us are at risk of seeing storms. >> glen hurricane schwartz has

your weather. >> as hot and humid as it was today, it's going to be hotter and more humid tomorrow. that's why the excessive heat warnings continue through the philadelphia area and trenton region. we do expect activity to develop tomorrow, especially in the afternoon. and the highest risk of any severe storms with damaging winds and hail in some of our western areas, including burkes county, lehigh valley, chester county and northern delaware. the temperature got up to 94 today, but it felt like 100. tomorrow, 97 and saturday, 95. and we'll time that out in a few minutes. a win today for prosecutors in bill cosby's sexual assault case. a montgomery county court ruled

statementing given 11 years ago by andrea constand are enough to send the case to trial. they wanted her to be present and testify during the preliminary hearing to question her. they had hoped to get the case thrown out. new at 11:00. septa says the daily number of passengers has dropped by more than half thanks to a structural defect that's led to a train shortage. the slow down has been in its third day. today crews worked in the heat to fix the trains sidelined by a structural defect. we've seen passengers sweating it out as they waited for a reduced number of trains. they held 120 trains after finding cracks under the rail cars. new at 11:00, just as it seems when perhaps we've heard the last of the e-mail scandal, another investigation is going forward. the u.s. state department is reopening a probe in to handling

of classified information. this comes days after james comey recommended no criminal charges against clinton. he said the former secretary of state did not intend to break the law and did not lie to the fbi. >> i know a lot of my former friends are out there saying they would. i wonder where they were the last 40 years, i'd like to see the cases they brought on gross negligence. nobody did, nobody would. >> republicans are now requesting the fbi investigate clinton lying in her benghazi hearing about classified e-mails. the democratic national convention is less than three weeks away, and tonight we are getting a look at the security impact on philadelphia. >> had road map shows the road closures in place around the wells fargo center. and you learned new details about the plan for handling protesters during the convention.

>> reporter: city leaders want us to pass along this information to you now so you don't get caught off guard when the dnc comes to the wells fargo center. the bottom line, philadelphia police are not looking to arrest anyone. we found out there will be some protesters who will be stationed at the park across the street. on a warm, quiet thursday at fdr park, cecelia is enjoying time with her family. she lives in south philly, which will soon be buzzing with politicians, celebrities and delegates for the democrat iic national convention. there will also be protesters. >> we're just a quiet group of people that likes to come out and enjoy ourselves without having people all in our faces. >> reporter: city leaders said today fdr is the best location for protest groups to safely interact with dnc delegates. it was just one of the topics

>> we're not knew to conventions nor to large-scale events. richard roth said they will have enough manpower to handle the crowds. security will be increased around presumptive democratic nominee hillary clinton. as for driving around the city, the secret service shared this map. the roads in red will be closed, which are broad street between 76 and 95. there will be limited truck travel between exits 13 and 22 on 95. people who live around wells fargo can expect traffic delays. >> there will be some impact on the neighborhood directly adjacent to wells fargo center and fdr park, but we're going to keep that to a minimum. >> reporter: before the dnc comes to town, officers will go

we continue to get new video in on the breaking news we're following out of dallas, texas, the nbc station there is reporting two police officers were shot tonight. seven other people injured duringrally. we don't have any word on the extent of the injuries here. nbc dallas is reporting officers now have the gunman confined to one building. the situation is still unfolding. we'll bring you up a to date on any information as it comes in. skyforce 10 was over the river as a search was conducted. a male was pulled from the water and later pronounced dead at the hospital. wendy's, if that is your go-to fast food restaurant, listen up. the company has fallen victim to hackers.

the fast food chain says customers credit and debit card numbers were stolen at more than 1,000 locations nationwide. they are offering free one-year credit monitoring to those affected. from our jersey shore bureau tonight. one of the shuttered casinos will be back in business tomorrow but only as a hotel. the showboat will reopen with about 850 rooms and suites. it will have a restaurant, bar and coffeehouse. it is about $250 for tomorrow's reopening. it closed in 2014. and the show will go on. despite opposition. the beach club music festival returns to wildwood tomorrow and saturday. charity concert benefits a program which brings music

programs to schools. some had tried to stop the concert because of disorderly concert-goers. but it's back on, and so is the heat. >> places like wildwood, you will get a sea breeze to prevent it from getting as hot. in these counties where the excessive heat warnings are in effect, the most populous aarea. look how warm it is. 85 degrees at 11:00 at night. 83 in dover. it's going to be hot tomorrow. it's not going to take much for the heat to be building up. couple showers near scranton. a little more in western pennsylvania, more in michigan. the spheatmosphere's starting tt more juiced. and we do have that risk of severe thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon over much of pennsylvania, going into our

western suburbs, especially chester county, burkes county, lehigh valley and the rest of our area. but we're going to need some rain to cool us off tomorrow. because it's going to be hot. it was 94 today. felt like 100. but tomorrow, 97, feeling like 104. even hotter than today. saturday's 95, only feeling like 97 because the humidity will be down. you have the cooling thunderstorms in the forecast as well, coming in, not during the morning hours, when it's just going to be heating up, but in the afternoon. some places as early as noon. they're going to be scattered around. it's not going to be something everybody is going to get. then the weekend tomorrow night and sets us up for a dry start for saturday and a chance of more showers and thunderstorms moving through the region. it's not going to be raining all

the time or in every part of the area. but we do have the first alert out for the extreme heat for the philadelphia area, the prmts a. suburbs. not for the lehigh valleys. you can see reading. in new jersey, 95 in eastern township, delaware also in the first alert, but not the jersey shore, because we're talking about temperatures in the 80s with the sea breeze. poconos not getting a problem tomorrow. and saturday, 80 degrees with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. sunday, picture perfect day. and sunday's going to be the best day at the jersey shore, too. it is going to be near 90 degrees on saturday with a land breeze, and sunday has a land breeze, too. but much lower humidity. and ten-day outlook shows the heat on saturday. beautiful day on sunday.

once again, a break update on the breaking news in from dallas. we have news on the number of officers injured. there are three dallas transit police officers who have been shot and wounded and one dallas police officer. seven others injured. this all came after a protest there in dallas. they're rallying in response to the recent officer-involved

shootings in other cities this week. our nbc sister station says one of the officers, the transit officer was shot in the arm and is expected to be okay. but we don't have any word on the other officers' conditions. we understand an s.w.a.t. team is negotiating with a suspected gunman on the scene. we'll bring you additional news as it becomes available. a family becomesioxing riva about to renew. >> sons will enter the ring, and the fight is happening right here in philadelphia next april. ray leonard junior and marvin junior will go toe to toe in the race. larry holmes was at tonight's news conference. he fought back in april of 1987.

an update now on the breaking news we have been following for you out of dallas, texas. we are now being told that four dart officers have been shot and the transit police just released information that one of their dart transit officers has died from their injuries. we're also told that a dallas police officer was shot. this is all in response to recent officer-involved
