locked down. authorities have now identified all five officers who were killed as they release more about the suspect. we have more on the deadliest attack on law enforcement since 9/11. >> reporter: there is an erie silence in downtown dallas tonight. just over 24 hours after this chaos and carnage. police shot from an elevated perch downtown. >> this was a shooter that had written manifestos on how to shoot and move, shoot and move, and he did that. >> reporter: investigators now say this man, micah xavisaixavi johnson was the lone gunman. officers using a bomb robot with

will overcome this challenge with the future being even better than the past. >> reporter: a painful past that now includes the most deadly attack on police since 9/11. jay gray, nbc news. dallas. tonight, all five fallen officers have been identified. and we're learning more about their impact. michael smith was a 26-year veteran of the dallas police department who also worked with at-risk kids. he leaves behind a wife and two children. lorne ahrens was married to a dallas police detective and had served for more than a dozen years. brent thompson had just gotten married in the last two weeks. patrick zamarripa had survived tours in iraq and was married with a 2-year-old daughter. michael krol worked for almost a

decade and all he ever wanted was to become a police officer. >> president obama is cutting his trip to poland short to visit dallas. he'll travel to spain tomorrow as planned but will leave early. he will visit dallas early next week. he called the attacks despica e despicable. two groups joined into one group combining their calls for police accountability while tying up traffic. we're joined live from city hall. demonstrators are still out there now? >> reporter: the original group we followed from lehigh from 22nd street hopped a septa train, got off here at city hall and have made their way to 15th and market. they're surrounded by police. a few minutes ago we saw several

donald trump released a video statement in response to the deadly attack in dallas, where he offered prayers to the victims and their families. >> a brutal attack on our police force is an attack on our country and an attack on our families. we must stand in solidarity with law enfrsment, which we must remember is the force between civilization and total chaos. >> the presumptive republican nominee was scheduled to hold a campaign event with chris christie in miami today but canceled that. police in our area say they are making changes following last night's violence. philadelphia police will now work in two-officer teams. the commissioner says it is looking at how it handles protests, while transit police are leaving assignments up to supervisors. local leaders are still coming to grips with what happened. >> you watch in horror, i mean, seeing those police officers

whole lot of rain today and more tomorrow could cause more flood problems. one of the areas down the shore, you saw that flooding in margate. they had a big storm there, that's at 5:00. and then look at this other one move right down across the same area. now we're pretty much cleared out, but boy, did they get a lot rain. and we had the flash flood warning for parts of that area that has just now, pi expired. there's the next area of showers moving this way. and we could see showers early in the morning. but of course, with the heating of the day and the afternoon, that's when we're going to see more and more of them. some, again, on the heavy side. and if they hit some of the areas that got hit hard today, 2-4 inches of rain in some spots in new jersey and bucks county, there could be more problems. talk more about when the storms finally move out and when we break this heat wave with the rest of the forecast in a few

new at 11:00, a 13 year old boy shot during a road rage incident in hunting park is home from the hospital. >> he was shot three times, still has a bullet in his leg. he says he was playing tuesday night when he heard gunshots. >> i didn't remember somebody got up there and everybody ran into the street, so i followed my brother. and i told him i got hit, he said no you didn't, i said yes, i did. >> yes, he did. a man jumped out of a car and fired eight shots after a road rage incident. the car drove off and so far there have been no arrests. this week's oppressive heat

claimed the life of a dog. an adult akita mix was found chained to a cinder block. he did not survive. an 8 month old pit bull was also found in a wire carrier. that dog did survive, thanks to a cardboard box on top of the crate that helped block the sun. >> animals just want to do nothing but give you unconditional love. and just leave them in deplorable conditions like that blows my mind. >> a humane officer searched the house this morning and found two more dogs along with a bearded dragon and fish. in less than an hour, work on new jersey road projects will just come to a stop, for at least a week. the latest fallout after the governor and state lawmakers weren't able to reach a deal on a gas tax increase. governor christie wants a gas hike of 23 cents a gallon to pay for these, but senate lawmakers

refuse to take action on the bill, the governor signed an executive order that suspends those projects at midnight. between 295 and 206 among those on the chopping block. in camden county, the same goes for a $1 million project to repair the nicholson bridge. multiple projects to make improvements along the river line could also be shelved. a controversial music festival made a return tonight. the beach music festival in wildwood and other local businesses filed a lawsuit to block the festival after they explained they had problems with bad behavior among concert-goers, but a judge gave the concert the okay. it benefits music programs in atlanta city school.

now your first alert neighborhood weather with glenn hurricane schwartz. >> some parts of the area got clobbered with thunderstorms,es personally in new jersey, parts of bucks county. the rain is finally offshore. but this is the doppler estimated rainfall. hardly anything, but look at all of this rain to the east of bucks county. parts of the area, newtown, northampton, close to 3 inches. atlantic city international had over 3 inches. now as we go through the night tonight and into the morning, we see more showers developing, getting heavier by afternoon. so a lot of folks that didn't get rain today are going to see some during the day tomorrow. we may have enough sunshine to push the temperature up to near

90 degrees in some spots, but it's going to be hard to get much higher than that. and then the drier air comes in for sunday, leading to beautiful weather. we got up to 94 degrees today. we get right around the 90 degree mark tomorrow. but we already have the official heat wave. temperatures now are in the 70s. they really got knocked down by the rain that we saw this afternoon. and tomorrow we're likely lly e rain again. chestnut hill at 85 degrees, yeardley, 85 for the high, reading, 88 for the high. a lot of places won't reach 80, the shore won't. but it will be warmer at the jersey shore because of a land breeze. but the humidity will be down. no rain. lots of sunshine. that is really nice. and similar ory in the pocono
