philadelphia from our camera a lot the link. good morning and welcome to nbc 10 news today i'm katy zachry. it is 7:00 on your saturday. it's going to be a hot, muggy, steamy one, right, all those adjectives apply, right? meteorologist, karen thomas. >> if you're planning your tee time looking at your round of golf this weekend tomorrow might be the better fit simply because we are looking for a cut in humidity tomorrow, high pressure moving in. today we sort of have a mixed bag of a lot of things in terms of weather elements. right now we are hazy out there, and our temperature readings mainly in the 70s with the exception of trenton reporting 69 degrees. our high temperatures today across the area upper 80s, we're looking for 90 in philadelphia and the humidity will stay with us. sun and clouds for the most part, we are cloudy just about everywhere right now, but we can't -- you know, we can't rule out the possibility of some sunshine, especially south and east, not looking for clearing

skies but that sun to peek through. scattered showers in the lehigh valley, 71 degrees, as we take a closer look down here temperature wise we've got that easterly flow coming in off of the ocean but temperatures not doing too badly along the shore there, 72 in atlantic and we're looking at 73 in ocean city, 74 degrees right now in upper township. >> karen, thank you. now to the latest on the deadly ambush of police officers by a sniper in dallas. the homeland security secretary says the alleged shooter did not appear to be linked to international terrorism. the mayor of dallas said the suspect acted alone and the city is now safe. the apparent gunman was killed by police during a standoff, thursday night's attack during a peaceful protest against police violence killed five officers and wounded seven others plus two civilians. dallas police and law enforcement across the country are mourning the five officers

who were killed in that ambush. officer michael smith was with the dallas police department for 26 years. he also worked with at risk children. he leaves behind a wife and two children of his own. officer lorne ahrens was married to a dallas police detective. he served the department for more than a dozen years. officer brent thompson worked for the dallas transit system. he had just gotten married two weeks ago. officer patrick zamarripa was a navy veteran who served in iraq before joining the dallas police. he was married with a two-year-old daughter at home. and officer michael krol worked for the dallas police department for almost a decade. his family says all he ever wanted to do was become a police officer. president obama is coming home early from his trip to europe, he will be going to dallas in the wake of the ambush shootings. the white house says the president will travel from poland to spain today as scheduled, he will then leave for washington tomorrow a day

earlier than planned. president obama is scheduled to visit dallas early next week. yesterday he called the dallas shootings despicable. in philadelphia protesters against police brutality held a third state night of demonstrations, there were two separate groups that began marches in north philadelphia last night, then those groups eventually joined together in center city call for police accountability and they did disrupt traffic in the area. nbc 10 was with those protesters as they marched and rallied near city hall just before midnight. you can see all of that congestion on the streets there. much of the crowd was vocal in their frustration over the deadly police shootings of african-american men in louisiana and minnesota this week. one woman who was passing by the demonstration told us she agreed with the protesters' message and hoped her grandson would grow up trusting officers. >> i don't want him to think that he can't call on them or,

you know, go to them for what they're supposed to be there for, protection. >> deal with the communities' feelings, emotions, whether they be anger, rage or whatever and stop discounting what we are and who we are. >> the demonstrations were peaceful and ended a short time after midnight. police did not have to make any arrests. there is too much violence, too much hate, too much senseless killing, too many people dead who shouldn't be. >> hillary clinton chose not to cancel her appearance in philadelphia last night. the presumptive democratic nominee for president spoke to the african methodist church convention about healing following the violent events this week. that convention continues this morning, the church just wrapped up an hour of prayer in which thousands took part. monique braxton is live in

center city with more on that and what they're focusing on. >> reporter: we saw about two dozen people arriving, it is red day for the ame delegates as well as the bishops who are here. yesterday former secretary clinton canceled an appearance in scranton but she came here to talk about violence across the country. >> we owe our children better than this. we owe ourselves better than this. >> the presumptive democratic candidate also told the ame crowd policing must change. her anti-violence message followed two deadly officer-involved shootings of black men captured on videotape. the ame church led a protest here while others marched in minnesota and louisiana earlier this week. clinton asked people to support their police departments. this following the ambushing of five officers including a transit officer in dallas. when clinton concluded her

now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. >> good saturday morning. let's go ahead and take a look at your current conditions in your neighborhood. temperature readings right now not doing too badly. 73 degrees in philadelphia, but you can see by the live picture the low cloud cover here. we do have areas of patchy fog as well in the lower lying areas. 67 out in the suburbs, 69 in new jersey. we have showers moving through parts of the lehigh valley, it's raining in reading right now, 71 degrees, delaware 74 with plenty of cloud cover. your day in philadelphia we'll take you through your saturday starting out. you see the clouds really don't break in the city too much, we are looking for temperatures to climb upper 80s, close to 90

degrees before it's out of here, but yes, the potential for scattered isolated showers as well as an afternoon thunderstorm potential. doppler radar showing us that here are those spotty scattered showers just moving through potsville, headed towards allentown, light variety, not heavy rain for sure, but you can see just how it's sort of building, building, building and then there's the rain. so that's sort of the -- going to be the theme for our saturday where we take it wider and it doesn't look like much energy but it is a cold front that's developing, it will move through so scattered showers and the potential for storms later on today. katy. >> all right, karen, thank you. happening now, work on new jersey road projects is stopped for at least a week. it's the latest fallout after the governor and state lawmakers were not able to reach a deal on a proposed gas increase. governor chris christie wants a gas tax hike of 23 cents per gone to pay for the road

projects. now, it passed the state assembly but senate lawmakers refused to take action on the bill. so the governor then signed an executive order that suspends the projects. and one of those projects a $1.7 million project on route 38 between routes 295 and 206 in burlington county is among those that are on hold. there is in camden county the same goes for a million dollar project to repair the nicholson bridge over east atlantic road. and the cuts are not just limited to the roads and streets, multiple projects to make improvements along the river line have also been shelved. coming up, borrowing train cars, where septa is getting extra seats to ease the crowded commutes we saw this week and why septa's problem might last longer than originally expected.

welcome back, it's just after 7:15. septa rail riders could see a little relief coming this week but we are also learning that the slowdown could last much longer than officials first thought. septa is leasing train cars from amtrak, maryland and new jersey transit which will add an additional 1,700 seats. that will help ease commuter congestion. those extra seats are needed since there is now concern that the silver liner 5 fleet could take more time and effort to fix. crews may have to replacen material the defective steel beams.

and since they are molded from scratch, it's thought to take longer than expected. >> at this point it's -- it's not looking good for a repair or a quick return to service, but we -- we're not done, but it's not at this point. >> septa hopes to have fixed cars back on the tracks by labor day. they were operating on a modified schedule this last week, but they plan to put out a new schedule tomorrow. the mega millions frenzy has sadly come to an end. only one ticket sold in indiana matched all the numbers to win the $540 million jackpot. a ticket sold in new jersey, however, did match the five white balls to win a million dollars. so check your tickets. here are the winning numbers from last night. 8, 19, 20, 55, 73 and the mega ball is 5. again, just to repeat if you're getting your tickets out, the winning numbers are 8, 19,0cg 2 55, 73 and the mega ball is 5. the showboat in atlantic

city is back in business, but without the games of chance. yesterday the former casino reopened as the hotel only. the showboat has hundreds of rooms and suites, plus a restaurant, a coffee shop and a fitness center. the property was one of four atlantic city casinos to close back in 2014. philadelphia developer bart brat steen purchased the showboat in january. all right. we are steamy out there this morning, we will go ahead and check our delaware neighborhoods in terms of temperature reading out there. mainly in the 70s. you see that. close to mid 70s right on through newark and marshallton, 74 degrees in wilmington. further south we see temperatures already at the halfway point, 75 degrees, 76 degrees in harrington. we have that northerly flow. winds will be shifting out of the west as a cold front moves through later today, but we are

expecting sun and clouds for our sky cover later on. right now, though, we have areas of patchy fog and we do have hazy overcast conditions. a lot of moisture in the area for sure. it doesn't look like much right now, but energy is building and we can see up here just north of philadelphia that we've got areas of scattered breakout showers and that will be the call as we move on through our saturday morning. this is what we mean by isolated scattered showers just pushing in from the west out front of the cold front. that will continue with the cloud cover, peeks of sunshine mainly south and east of philadelphia but for the most part future cast this weather model showing us by this afternoon isolated scattered showers moving throughout the area, that will continue by the evening hours, by 9:00 p.m. we can see it starts to push to the east. parts of philadelphia and parts of interior south jersey getting the showers tonight and then moving through.

what's interesting about the cold front as itr%w makes its w in is that we could get some isolated thunderstorms with that. so if you are at the beach and you hear rumbles of thunder you will want to keep your eye to the sky. meteorologist erika martin is out on the patio with current conditions and sort of a now cast right now. how about it, erika. >> i love t karen, i love that you're calling it now casting. that's what it is. it's a little misty, you mentioned the patchy concern, that's another concern for the early morning hours. the sun will peek on through, so let's take a look at visibility right now. it's improving, allentown 4 mile visibility, hazleton 5, pottstown five and pottsville poor visibility at 2 visibility. some seeing less than half a mile visibility. don't turn on the high beams, take your time driving. it's misty so that's not helping much right now, but again improving by certainly tomorrow. that's something to look forward to. karen talking about that cold front, the wind is picking up, it's a little breezy right now but again everything is improving.

back to you in the studio. >> thank you so much. yes, as erika mentioned, we are looking for a better day tomorrow in terms of the humidity, the dew point will be coming down. as we go ahead and take a look at our ten-day forecast you can see it really is sort of a 50/50 split with our weekend today hot, steamy, we get some peeks of sunshine but we do have the pesky clouds and showers around, possibly a thunderstorm as well. tomorrow we open the skies up, high pressure moves in, 89 degrees but the humidity will be lower feeling pretty good. monday really picture perfect. tuesday we start to get warm. we will take you all the way out and show you we're back into the 90s. definitely mid summer and so we can expect these temperatures, but you can see 96 here thursday, by the end of the week scattered thunderstorms come back into the weather pick tutu 96 degrees. our average temperature should be 87 so well above average as we head into the next ten days. we will be back after the break.

of fruit and veggie cupcakes for her. she enjoyed them with her hippo friend button and their for could you pine friend there. button and jenny both weigh more than 4,000 pounds each so they probably put away quite a few of those cupcakes. at least they were veggie. a controversial music festival continues in cape may county later today. the beach glow music festival kicked off last night in wildwood. maurice pearce and other local businesses filed a lawsuit to block the concert after they claimed they had problems with bad behavior among concert goers in the past but the judge gave the concert the okay. proceeds benefit music programs in philadelphia and atlantic city schools. and if you like blueberries you will want to head to linvilla orchards in media today. it's hosting the annual blueberry festival and pie

eating contest. visitors can pick their own blueberries and enjoy concerts and crafts. in camden county the haden vil arts festival beginsed to today dozens will exhibits glass, jewelry, paintings and photographer. the festival at kings highway and tanner street runs today from 11:00 to 7:00 and tomorrow from noon to 5:00. this is a great story. college students in new york have given hope to a nine-year-old girl using ingenuity a 3-d printer and some inspiration from the girl's favorite movie. check out chris is a mitchell trying out her lightweight plastic arm with a design inspired by the disney film frozen. chris is a was born without a right hand so eight physics students built her a new one. it's made of 30 pieces of special plastic and what chris is a likes most of all the
