first, protesters go up to officers' faces yelling insults and letting out anger. sky force 10 live over the protests right now in north philadelphia. the demonstrations started at 6:00 and have continued for the past five hours. good evening. it's the fourth straight night of demonstrations here in philadelphia. tonight's protests took a tense tone as demonstrators went face-to-face with police in north philadelphia where drew smith joins us live. what's the situation now? >> reporter: this did not escalate past words but this was intense with demonstrators going up to the police line, hurling insults at them. the police did not react. >> who's city. >> reporter: protesters picked the districts for the march, they say there has been a

history of injustice. >> some of the most destructive, some of the most violent, are some of the most criminal pigs in this city. >> harsh words lasted through the night. >> knowing they have to remain vij i leapt. >> reporter: standing outside they were met by a few people holding signs of support for police including an officer's daughter. >> what happened in dallas is disgraceful and i don't want to go to more funerals. >> i want to let them guys know that we support them for what they do. >> reporter: insults got personal. >> the police kill people. right. they are killing us. i feel like yelling at the police is a way to let out aggression. >> reporter: we want to show you that live picture again. you can see the protesters on

the move at b and ala gapy, out in the streets since 6:00 so a long night for the police as well. i spoke with them. so far there have been no arrests as part of this demonstration. drew smith, "nbc 10 news." hundreds of protesters shut down a highway in st. paul, minnesota. that group marched from the governor's residence where they have staged the past three days. philando castile was shot and killed. police tried to stop the protesters but were unsuccessful. dallas police are on high alert after an anonymous threat against officers tonight. officers chased what they are calling a suspicious person into a nearby parking garage. after nearly two hours the search turned up nothing. police have not disclosed the nature of the threat and this comes two days after five officers were killed by a sniper in the deadliest attack on law

enforcement since 9/11. and we're gaining new insight about the shooter who opened fire on the officers and his background including his military service. micah johnson received training from a private self defense school in texas, one that teaches firearm tactics including shooting on the move. a military lawyer who represented johnson says the army prematurely kicked him out of afghanistan after he was accused of sexual harassment. he was not convicted of any time. president obama addressed the violence during a news conference at the nato summit in poland today, calling it a painful week in america. >> this is sorrow, there is anger, there is confusion about next steps, but there's unity in recognizing that this is not how we want our communities to

operate. >> the president says he plans to visit dallas in the coming days. new at 11 the search is on for a man police say shot and killed a dad and stole the victim's car with his 1-year-old child inside. it happened around 4:00 in salem county. the car was found on north fifth and wood streets in center city philadelphia about an hour later. the little boy was found safe inside the car but the search continues for the killer. the child has been returned to his mother. turning to our weather, it's dry right now in center city as we take a live look from our camera, but strong storms came through parts of the area tonight. so are we done with the stormy weather for the rest of the weekend? for that we turn to the first alert neighborhood forecast and violeta.

>> moisture in new jersey but we're going to be drying out into the overnight hours. you can see some of that cloud cover but as denise mentioned in philadelphia we are looking at dry conditions right now. again, the storms have shifted into new jersey, we have across parts of mercer county, trenton, into the bensalem area, lingering shower. this has weakened and also aapproaching ocean county into manchester and jackson we do have locally heavy rain that will continue to push offshore over the next couple hours. we have storm reports from earlier today, moisture damaging winds in the 50-mile-an-hour range. here across southern new jersey as well we have tree damage and wires down across cumberland county. those storms were on the strong side. temperatures in the 70s, and tomorrow's looking comfortable, however, i'm also tracking the potential for the next heat

burglars broke into several homes 18 bucks county neighborhood stealing cash and electronics while people slept. police believe more than one person climbed through unlocked windows into homes on simons drive in morrisville. they hauled away a 55-inch television mounted to the wall of one home. others they took cash, phones and lap tops. >> it was professionals and more

philadelphia at this hour. sky force 10 live over about 30 demonstrators marching along allegheny. some of these protesters have been out since 6:00 tonight. and about an hour ago they got right in police officers' faces screaming insults, we see the group gathering there, we see a little bit of scuffling but we know so far there have been no violence and no arrests. we'll keep on top of it and bring you the latest. ♪ people lit can dells and bowed down in prayer in center city. st. john the evangelist hosted life of the city 2016 offering people the community to pray, worship or sit and be still with their thoughts. >> local communities have been pouring out support for their own police departments this weekend. in the wake of the dallas shootings. in burlington county the police department says officers were surprised with this lunch spread

along with dinner and snacks from thankful residents today. bringing the community and police together through a game of basketball. nbc 10 was there as the second annual basketball tournament kicked off, a chance for some of the kids in the wynnefield section to get to know police who volunteer while having a great time. a day of family fun along the river for a serious reason. people gather along the banks of the schuylkill river for the top oil trains family picnic and paddle. members of several organizations took part and working to stop the expansion what if they call dirty energy products and keep local families safe. movie and music lovers took a trip back to the future in fairmont park. ♪ fans at the man center got to experience the 1980s hit film

that's when we're looking for the heat to return, of course we did have a heat wave that ended today. again, later in the upcoming week looks like temperatures on the up swing. 75 in philadelphia, skies clearing in delaware but you can see we have quite a bit of lingering cloud cover and with the lingering moisture wouldn't be surprised if we see patchy fog over the next couple of hours. again we'll notice a drying trend into your sunday. 75 now in soft hill, same for 0 those of you in pensforth and west mount airy, chestnut hill is it 73 degrees through the current time frame. showers on the way we have lingering rain north of philadelphia. that's going to push north of trenton, burlington county into ocean county as well. we'll notice improvement into your sunday. we've got high pressure off to the west, that's going to shift to the east over the next couple days and bring us nice weather. the rain moves out the northwest wind develops. so tomorrow is not only going to

be drier, temperatures are looking moderate and it's not going to be as humid. so sunday looking very nice. of course it's well deserved after a scorching couple of days, again our heat wave ended today with highs in mid-90s the last couple days, with the humidity the heat index has been near 100 in spots, again today a high of 79 degrees. into sunday, temperatures will start to come up but 87 degrees is our normal high. so it's going to be nice out there. breezy but that will usher in the less humid air mass. allentown 83 with a mix of clouds and sunshine. as we head into monday, quite nice, tuesday looking nice but temperatures start to come up. it won't be until the middle or later portion of the woke that highs will make a push into the 90s and the chance for showers and storms to return. this is sports desk. brought to you by xfinity.
