to have someone in your face an inch from your nose calling you everything under the sun, you don't go through training and magically being a robot. >> reporter: now we've also learned that mayor kenny is at this hour meeting with officers from the 24th and 25th to talk about how he feels about their reaction on saturday night, and we've also learned that the ministers are going to be working with the mayor and police as we work toward the dnc, and we did ask the commissioner about the dnc and any prospects of any disruptions and his -- and his answer and a whole lot of words were we'll be red along with federal agents that will be here to assist us. live for now outside police headquarters, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. there have been new reports coming out of both dallas and baton rouge today as tensions boil over there are and across the country. >> nbc 10's keith jones back now

tracking that new information fours, and we's joining us with it here. keith? >> reporter: in dallas police are trying to recreate exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting. today officers are poring over hundreds of hours of video of what happened thursday night when a gunman killed five officers and left nine more hurt. officers are looking for body cameras from other officers, dashc cameras and any other cameras with a date and time code on them. as this investigation continues, the police chief says officers are having a tough time handling everything from the death of their co-workers from the protests as well as day-to-day problems in a community. >> we're asking cops to do too much in this country. we are. we're just asking us to do too much. every societal failure we put it off on the cops to solve. not enough mental health, funding. let the cops handle it. not enough drug addiction funding, let's give it to the

cops. here in dallas we've got a loose dog problem. let's have the dogs chas loose dogs. >> reporter: meantime in baton rouge the district attorney has stepped down from the case involving police officers who shot and killed a man last week. the d.a. says he had a relationship with the parents of one of the accused shooters. take a look at this sign of unity at a black lives matter church in memphis. the city's interim police director mike rawlings wearing the vest walked arm in arm with protesters. rawlings was allowed -- even allowed protesters rather to block traffic on interstate 40 before locking arms with them. later they clung to a pastor as he prayed for change. still a lot going on, of course, dallas, baton rouge, all across the country. we will keep you updated, and we'll bring you news developments as soon as they happen. denise? >> thanks, keith. a camden county man hopes his hashtag pics for peace will help promote calm and understanding. he's a wmur radio intern who was sickened by the police shooting

deaths of two black men last week and the retaliation murders of police in dallas. friday fuchs spent some time with winslow's police chief george smith, and in that meeting chief smith announced the department will launch officer body cameras next week. it's something fuchs wants for police across the country. >> when you walk into the chief's office and we're not here to confess to a crime. we didn't really do anything. just trying to start a conversation to fix what's wrong in america right now. >> the picture from my office with andre and two of his buddies, made it on to the nation.com site which is pretty humbling for me. >> ellen deagain jess. >> which is really neat. >> reporter: idea for the hashtag pics for peace is to take a photo of a police officer or anyone of a different race or nationality and then post it. and our coverage continues at 4:30. nbc 10's deanna durante looks at the challenges facing suburban police departments in our area as they handle protests and step up security with smaller forces.

and then all new at 5:00, america stop the madness. that's the message from a local black police officer. he'll explain how the black community and police officers are feeling similar emotions during this unrest. >> now to the septa slowdown. riders are facing fewers problems today with a new schedule in effect and more backup trains on the tracks and it comes a week after septa, of course, pulled a third of its regional rail off the tracks because of an equipment problem. nbc 10 is live outside the septa headquarters and has an update from agency headquarters. what did you learn, lauren? >> reporter: jim, one of the things that we learned is that those cars that septa is leasing from maryland, they didn't actually neighboring on to the track to pick up passengers today. they just weren't quite comfortable with them yet so they -- they did some work, and those will go out tomorrow adding more seats for riders.

>> this is new jersey transit, not even a septa train. >> reporter: on septa rails passengers here are boarding a new jersey transit train. it's one of the new tools on the track that septa is used to go try to ease congestion and frustration. >> we're still seeing delays on the railroad. it is the kind of situation that is, you know, going to continue on and crowding, but we continue to work towards making things better. >> reporter: septa's general manager says they are looking at adding more trains possibly from boston or the mid-west, but today septa put the first leased vehicles and a modified schedule on the rail. this man took the rail to center city. >> it was a lot bet sneer what did you see today? >> more trains, more movement and i got to work a lot, a lot faster. >> reporter: he's not the only one to notice the change. we met dana last week and we checked back in with her today

working at the family business. did you see a difference today compared to last week? >> absolutely. there were not as many people waiting at the platform for a train. >> reporter: still, trains aren't coming as often as they used to crunching some passengers' schedule. >> i wish there was an in between train so have you to rush to get to work. i have to be at work to get to 8:00 so i have to rush to get to work on time. >> reporter: yeah. septa is running about 200 fewer trains today than they would be on a normal weekday, but they are running longer trains as well as something they are calling a cleanup train to pick up passengers when your top is skipped. now, the evening rush is just about to start. we'll check that out and report back on what we find. larne mayk live in center city, nbc 10 news. crews had their hands full cleaning up this accident on i-959 in bucks county. sky force 4 over the scene south of the woodhaven exit in

issues. trump plans to reform the v.a. including minimizing wait times for patients and improving overall health care and indiana governor mike pence says he'll attend the rally in indianapolis. pence widely considered to be a leading vp prospect for trump. the governor says he's backing the presumptive republican nominee for president and will help in any way he can. and our team of reporters will also be covering the convention all week long. look for live reports from tracy davidson, lauren mayk and me starting sunday night on nbc 10 news at 11:00. to the democrats now, the battle between hillary clinton and bernie sanders is set to end tomorrow. both campaigns say sanders will join the presumptive democratic nominee at a rally in new hampshire, and he's expected to endorse her. insiders say the joint appearance could help appease sanders' supporters ahead of the party's convention right here in philadelphia in two weeks. and the eyes of the world will be on philadelphia during the democratic national

convention. now the majority of those eyes will be from social media platforms during the convention. a local company will help bring the images and video from the dnc to viewers around the globe. the company typically works with retailser and it says what applies to products also applies to politics. >> we're going to power digital engagement for the convention and give them ability to activate this content and capture this content in a very compelling way. >> reporter: the convention committee says the partnership will allow them to streamline user engagement and user-generated content from user participants. new details now in the case of a baby boy who was strapped in a car seat when a man murders his dad and stole the family's car. today nbc 10 uncovered this picture we're going to show you of the suspect who surrendered to police last night awaiting extradition. south jersey bureau reporter

cidney long is live in penn's grove with more on this case. >> reporter: i can tell you this community is anxious for answers. police and prosecutors say they don't have a motive for this bizarre car. take a look, a 24-year-old took his last breath right beside this fence here at a cemetery, shot multiple times and his girlfriend watch him die and then watched as the man who pull the trigger took off in their car with their baby boy. >> on saturday afternoon. >> i heard someone screaming, like they were just screaming. >> reporter: tagia johnson listened from her second floor window. >> i was in high window watching tv and hair gunshots and i got on the ground and it was just crazy. >> 31-year-old hakim williams shot and killed the man and stole his car to get away. the victim's 1-year-old baby boy was strapped in the back sgleet after i ran outside, i'm like oh, my gosh. you just say a body laying on

the ground. it's traumatizing to see. >> reporter: witnesses posted this photo of the immediate police response. johnson says the boy's mother was in shock and crying. >> he was just asking for help, could somebody help her and the cops come pulling in. >> reporter: hours later philadelphia police recovered the stolen car abandoned here near vine street, the baby boy unharmed inside and was returned to his mother. >> scary and terrifying. >> reporter: it wasn't until sunday night that williams turned himself into police in philadelphia. he's facing murder, kidnapping and robbery charges. now sources at prosecutor's office also tell me that it was a cell phone inside that couple's vehicle that helped investigators track the movement of that vehicle from here in penn's grove across to philadelphia. of course, when they found the car it was abandoned but the boy is okay. we're told that williams in the meantime does not plan to fight extradition back to new jersey. it will happen later this week.

we're live in penn's grove, cidney long, nbc 10 news. a former philadelphia school administrator has been sentenced to ten years probation for her role in promoting a culture of cheating on state exams. evelyn cortez was the prince pag of dyicuyuga elementary school. cortez pleaded guilty to charges she changed students' test answers and even gave some students the answers to the state assessment test. investigators say she publicly reprimanded teachers and students who didn't want to take part in the cheating. sky force 10 over a fire that damaged a north philadelphia row house this morning look at the flames coming from the roof. firefighters working to knock the flames down along newkirk street. no one was inside the house but firefighters did help out a cat. giving him some oxygen on the sidewalk there.

investigators still working to learn what started that fire. a display of patriotism was the target of vandals. someone attacked a statue in newark and now police want to know who. tim furlong has that story. >> reporter: how did it feel when the leaders of this vfw post saw their statue of st. michael was ripped from its pedestal and smashed and on the fourth of july no less? >> the bottom of your stomach just fell out. >> reporter: st. michael is the patron saint of soldiers and area eagle scouts built it summer to honor veterans and all soldiers. >> and he spent a lot of time raising the money and just, you know, a lot of time building this. >> reporter: i spoke with that eagle scout via facetime and is bummed someone destroyed his work. the vandals were bold and a little bit stupid. the spot where the statue sat, i

don't know, maybe 85 feet away from the newark police department. they were really lucky they weren't caught. the vfw leaders don't think it was anything politically motivated. >> just some kids walking around, didn't have anything to do, and just -- it was just a stupid thought that came into their mind, yeah, and it's a shame. >> reporter: just because the vandals haven't been caught doesn't mean police aren't looking for them. if you know who did this, call newark police and the vfw will try to replace the statue and put up a surveillance camera. >> definitely something we want to keep alive. >> reporter: in newark, tim furlong, nbc 5 news. the governor won't stop a $31 billion spending law from becoming law even though state lawmakers can't explain how they will pay for this. the spending bill should go into effect at midnight without the governor's sit. the senate democratic leader jay costa says the move keeps dollars flowing to schools and other important programs.

hamilton township and 79 degrees in princeton. the reason for the lower humidity is this area of high pressure where it's positioned. just pulling in the drier air and eventually it will move away and pull in more of a south wind and the humidity will come back. enjoy it for today because each day this week the humidity is going to be creeping up there and especially by thursday you'll definitely notice a more humid forecast. neighborhood temperatures for tomorrow, if you're in the philadelphia area. 88 degrees. expect mostly sunny skies and pennsylvania suburbs coming in at 87 degrees. if you're in reading expect 87 degrees. staying dry tomorrow and along the shore in atlantic city low 80s tomorrow, dry conditions, and if you're in delaware, areas like dover, expect temperatures right around 86 degrees. as we go through tonight and tomorrow, we're going to keep a dry pattern in place. humidity slowly starting to creep up there and we'll be dry. then we go to wednesday and

we'll get even more humidity in the forecast. you see the clouds moving in, some showers around, possibly by wednesday morning, so that just shows you more moisture starts to move in on wednesday and even later in the evening wednesday we could have more showers move in. that's at 4:00 p.m. so keep in mind if you're south and west of philadelphia you look like you have the best chance of showers on wednesday and then we can see another round moving in for part of your weekend. here's your ten-day forecast. tomorrow 87 degrees, philadelphia, wednesday, we could see some showers around and temperatures 88 degrees. take a look at thursday, even friday. temperatures coming in in the mid-90s. we could be looking at a potential heat wave. saturday will be in the low 90s. by sunday though 87 degrees and some showers and storms possible in the forecast for sunday, and then we go into next week and we're starting around 90 degrees. take a closer look at the rest of the area's neighborhood forecast coming up. a legendary guitarist nearly collapsed on stage right in the middle. show. >> and cameras were rolling when it happened. next, we have an update on this

aerosmith guitarist joe perry is said to be resting and doing well after he fell ill during a show in new york last night. video from the concert shows perry sitting on the front of the drum platform and then standing up and then stumbling behind a stack of speakers. perry was performing in brooklyn with his new band the hollywood vampires. well, recognize him? that's the stay puff marshmallow man from "ghostbusters," just a promotional stunt. commuters came face-to-face with the squeezable giant as he appeared to smash through the floor. the takeover also included fake green slime oozing from the ceiling. the all-female remake opens today. a fox's attempt to run wild in bucks county caught him

we're getting new information about the breaking news we told you whether at the top of this newscast. >> a shooting inside a courthouse in michigan. let's go straight to nbc 10's keith jones in the breaking news center. keith. >> the sheriff just wrapped up a news conference. he confirmed two bailiffs were shot and killed at the courthouse in michigan. a sheriff's deputy was also shot and taken to the hospital where he is, as we've learned, in stable condition. the gunman was also killed. investigators have not said how the shooter got a gun inside the courthouse in the first place. we will continue to follow this story, and we'll bring you any more information as soon as we get it. live in the breaking news center. keith jones, nbc 10 news.

support from local communities. nbc 10's deanna durante is live in whitpayne township. >> reporter: one county posting thanks on facebook thanking residents who have stopped by with gifts and offering support. >> how you doing? >> reporter: when we arrived, we didn't expect to meet frank engrow and he didn't expect to meet us. >> they have had a hard time last week. >> that's great. >> reporter: he showed up bearing gifts, some from his garden and others intended for the police officer and staff who work here. >> what can you do for people other than have a lunch on me. i can't take all these people to lunch so have a nice lunch on me. >> reporter: inside the break room the table is full of unexpected gifts and letters of support. >> no police officer wants to ever harm anybody. we always want to do what's right for our communities. >> reporter: with more than 30 years on the job chief kenneth lawson has never seen an attack on police like the killing of

five officers in dallas last week. >> never in my career. >> reporter: william tierny has been an officener hatfield township and central montgomery county for 30 years. >> i don't think any community is immune to any type of racial divide, but i think our department is very well educated and that we work every day to -- to communicate with people of all races. >> reporter: chief tierny is also impressed with the community support in his township. >> the words that people use. they used a jektives that really are heartfelt. the messages are really deep and i think they really reach the officers in the department. >> reporter: police also say they will do all they can to reach the community. >> we constantly do what our public expects of us. we will overcome this. >> reporter: now here the chief says many of the items brought here for police officers will be donated back into the community to people who really need those items. reporting live, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. >> giving back. all right, deanna, thank you.

the u.s. will deploy 560 more troops to iraq to help recapture the city of mosul from isis. defense secretary ash carter made that announcement today during a surprise visit to the country. most of the new troops including engineers and logistics personnel will be devoted to building up an air base south of mosul. the troop increase brings the number of u.s. military members in iraq to about 4,600. more than 1,000 people ran for their lives through the cobblestone streets of pamplona, spain, during the running of the bulls festival this morning. many of the runners and several of the bulls slipped and fell during the dash, but only four people suffered bruises. the spanish tradition is reigniting controversial after a matador was gored to death by a bull on live television over the weekend. traditionally when a matador is killed, both the bull and its mother are slaughtered to death to end the blood line, but now that the social media campaign to save the bull's mother. well, there's a new warning for parents with jogging

a warning for parents who use jogging strollers. hundreds of thousands are being recalled as the wheels can fall off. this affects instep safari and grand safari as well as two schwinn models. more than 10 reports of the front wheel coming off causing more than 200 injuries. two childhood habits that often frustrate patients may actually have some health benefits. these are habits that your kids may have or maybe you even had, sucking thumbs and biting nails.

the new pokémon go app is the latest craze and it's coming with problems. a wyoming teen was playing the game searching for imaginary creatures when she discovered a body. investigators say the man's death appears to be an accident and they are working to identify him. if you're not familiar with the game. it uses gps technology to put animated creatures in the real world around you. and the '90s fad is back and taking over america's smartphones. >> who knew. the wyoming incident just the latest dangerous situation surrounding the pokémon go app. both kids and adults glued to the reality game. they are actually hurting themselves trying to catch all the monsters. posting pictures of their bumps and bruises on social media after looking for monsters in crowded streets, malls and local

tragic night that five officers died under their watch. >> black lives matter! black lives matter! black lives matter! >> reporter: and preparing for more protests. nbc 10 asks the philadelphia police commissioner what officers will do to keep the peace, but first more deadly gun violence. a suspect opens fire inside a michigan courthouse, and tonight two bailiffs are dead. the gunman is also among the dead at the courthouse. >> more live from the breaking newsroom with more. >> reporter: we have new information about this deadly shooting. we just learned several civilians were injured in the shooting as well. they were all taken to the hospital where they are being treated right now. a sheriff's deputy also in the hospital recovering, we're told. this shooting was on the third floor of a courthouse. it left two bailiffs dead.
