♪ >> announcer: nbc 10 breaking news. that breaking news out of philadelphia tonight, police are currently investigating suspicious activity at the bellevue hotel in center city. police say they were alerted to some people on the roof and found smoke bombs and chemicals that could be used to make pipe

bombs. two people are in custody right now. there are no evacuations at this time. plus we're following more breaking news. threats against philadelphia police. nbc 10 has learned an investigation is under way tonight after someone made a bomb threat against three city police districts. police say a person stopped an officer in the 39th district and warned that that officer of the threatening message on facebook. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm jim rosenfield. philadelphia police say they are taking this threat very seriously and it all comes as tensions are at an all-time high for law enforcement across the country. this afternoon in michigan two bailiffs were shot to death inside a courthouse in st. joseph. police say an inmate who was being moved grabbed an officer's gun and began shooting in an attempt to escape. people ran for cover as he shot and killed the two bailiffs and injured two others before he was killed by police. and dallas, still reeling from the deadliest attack on

police since september 11th. tof tonight the community gaggedered for a vigil to show their support for the officers shot and killed last thursday. tomorrow president obama, vice president biden and former president george w. bush are celt to attend a memorial service for those officers. this as the department's chief shed new light on the investigation today. >> reporter: cop killer micah johnson knew what he was doing, said dallas's police chief said. >> the person obviously had some dilutions. this person also was very committed to killing officers. >> reporter: now investigators are combing through 170 hours of officer body cam footage, 300 witness interviews, and johnson's personal arsenal to piece together what drove the 25-year-old to massacre five officers and wound nine others. the chief expressing no regrets for using a robot like this one to kill johnson with a bomb. >> this wasn't an ethical

dilemma for me. i'd do it again. >> reporter: investigators have questioned johnson's mother. in her first interview with the blaze, she said she watched her son transform from a fun-loving extrovert into a hermit after what he felt was military service in afghanistan that didn't live up to his expectations. >> he was very disappointed. very disappointed. >> i didn't see it coming. >> he was a good son. he was a good son. >> i loved my son with all my heart. i hate what he did. >> reporter: for e.r. doctors who treated seven of the wounded officers, the loss is profound. >> i think about it every day. but i was unable to save those cops when they came here that night. it weighs on my mind constantly. this killing, it has to stop. >> funerals will be held for three of the police officers killed in dallas this week. and police departments from our

area are set to help. upper marion, plymouth township and bensalem just some of the departments sending officers to dallas. on friday friends and family will come together for the funeral of a black man shot and killed by police in baton rouge. alton stirling was killed last tuesday by two white police officers. his death was captured on video you'll recall, prompting nationwide protests. tonight the aclu is criticizing how police dealt with protesters in baton rouge. the group says officers used violent military tactics on people demonstrating peacefully. and in minnesota prosecutors say riot charges will be filed against proirtss who stormed onto busy i-94 in st. paul over the weekend. amid these protests a show of support for police and communities of color. dozens came out to an interfaith and multicultural rally in allentown tonight. it's happening in a city evaluating the diversity of its police force. nbc 10's brandon hudson was at

the gathering where leaders talked about making changes. >> reporter: in the shadow of allentown city hall, people stood hand in hand, united. the city organized a rally in support of police and the city's minority community. >> we mainly come together here tonight to reject the polarization that has engulfed our nation. >> reporter: but during the rally -- >> the people being killed by police! >> reporter: he made sure his voice was heard. quesa said he came to hold the mayor and police accountable. so what happened in baton rouge, falcon heights, minnesota and dallas don't happen in allentown. >> there's been situations where i went to ask a police officer a question and they automatically draw back on their gun. >> reporter: kwesa was not alone. we spoke to others who want to make sure community action complements the words spoken today. >> i have a grandson, and right now they are afraid of the police. they're afraid to walk the streets. >> we are one people.

we are run race. but black lives matter because white people have always mattered. >> reporter: in philadelphia a different kind of rally at a park. many wearing all black as a part of their message. stop police brutality. >> we're looking for justice. we're looking for peace. we're looking for an honest answer to why this is happening. until we get that, we will see this. >> reporter: brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. >> sky force 10 over the scene of a shooting in southwest philadelphia tonight. police tell us four male victims were shot during a basketball game that had just ended on 61st street near baltimore avenue. medics rushed one victim to the hospital. police say they've made no arrests. in sussex county, delaware a firefighter died from his injuries after he fell from a helicopter during a training exercise. we have a picture of the delaware state police chopper that was used during today's training.

firefighters were conducting a routine training exercise they say at the delaware coastal airport in georgetown when the 46-year-old firefighter fell out. the victim's name is not being released until family can be notified. now to the latest on the septa slowdown. riders should be seeing more changes on the rails this week as the agency tries to ease congestion. today septa added leased trains from new jersey transit and amtrak. the agency also put a modified schedule into place after taking a third of its cars off the rails because of a structural defect. septa said it's still running 200 fewer trains per day than on a normal weekday. >> we will continue to make adjustments. we'll continue to work on leasing additional equipment. we'll continue to look at even potentially doing some kind of express busing in. and that's also being looked at by septa.

>> nbc 10 has learned cars leased from maryland will be in use tomorrow. septa's also looking at getting more equipment, possibly from boston, or the midwest. pennsylvania lawmakers may be close to a deal on a $31 billion spending bill. republicans in the state senate say they're being told there is an agreement but there are no specifics. lawmakers say they'll work through the night to put together a $1.3 billion revenue package to help shore up the bill. governor tom wolfe says he won't stop the bill from becoming law at midnight. that's the move democratic leaders say will keep money flowing to schools and other programs. one subject lawmakers cannot agree on, abortion. a state senate panel has approved new restrictions on elective abortions despite a veto threat from the governor. the judiciary committee's vote today sets up a potential senate floor vote. the house passed a bill last month. that bill would ban elective abortions after 20 weeks compared to 24 weeks under

current law. governor wolfe calls the bill a step back for the state and women. new at 11:00, pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane's trial will begin next month. nbc 10 has confirmed it will start august 8th in norristown, montgomery county. it comes after a closed-door conference with the judge and attorneys from both sides today. kane's accused of leaking secret grand jury information and lying about it under oath. she has denied any wrongdoing. now to decision 2016. donald trump hit the campaign trail in the swing state of virginia today, where he billed himself as the law and order candidate. the presumptive republican nominee called for the end of violence against the nation's police officers and spoke about veterans' issues. trump was joined by new jersey governor chris christie as speculation grows over who he will pick as vp. he's expected to make that pick by the end of the woke. other names at the tocchet list, former house speaker newt gingrich and indiana governor

mike pence. pence will attend a trump rally tomorrow in indianapolis. and we're now a week away from the start of the republican national convention in cleveland. our team of reporters will be covering the rnc all week long. look for live reports from tracy davidson, lauren lake, and myself starting sunday night at nbc 10 news at 11:00. the democratic national convention takes over fillate week after. and we've learned the city has taken out a $1.2 million insurance policy. it's for any lawsuits the city could face because of police actions during the convention. the plan is being paid for by a department of justice security grant. speaking of the democrats, tomorrow the political battle between hillary clinton and bernie sanders is set to come to a close. both campaigns saying sanders will join the presumptive democratic nominee at a rally in new hampshire where he's expected to endorse her. insiders say the joint appearance could help appease sanders supporters ahead of the dnc. but it is not all good news for clinton tonight. the republican chairman of two

u.s. house committees are asking the justice department to investigate whether clinton lied to congress during testimony about her use of a private e-mail server. they claim evidence from the fbi's investigation contradicts her testimony about whether she sent or received e-mails marked "classified." murder, carjacking, and kidnapping. that's what a south jersey man's accused of tonight after police say he killed a father, then stole his car with the victim's baby still inside. police say akiem williams shot and killed jakai ingram in front of the a cemetery in penn's grove salem county on cemetery. they say he hopped in williams' car and took off while williams' son was still strapped into the car seat. the car was later found abandoned in philadelphia. williams surrendered to philadelphia police last night. >> in my room watching tv. then i just hear gunshots. and i got on the ground because i thought it was my house. it was crazy. >> thankfully the baby wasn't hurt, and williams is now

awaiting extradition back to salem county. tonight a community is in mourning. mourning the loss of a teenager who drowned in the delaware river last week. loved ones gathered at penn treaty park in port richmond tonight to remember 16-year-old deandre lindsay. they brought balloons. they lit candles. and they wrote their final good-byes. this is the same spot where the teenager jumped into the water thursday night around 5:00, but he never surfaced. crews pulled his oddy from the wa water an hour later, tried to resuscitate him but it was just too late. lindsay's family started a go fund me page to help pay for funeral costs. still ahead, just call it the shock of a lifetime. a couple is thankful to be okay after this blinding flash knocked them to the ground. we'll explain. plus -- >> it's a popular app likely on your child's phone. and philadelphia police are warning about it. i'm keith jones. i'll tell you about pokemon go and what you can do as a parent to keep your child safe. next.

here's the gist. pokemon go is a free augmented reality game that uses your device's gps to put these creatures called pokemon in the real world around you. >> it's like a different way to play. a lot more fun because you get to like walk around with your friends, and it's kind of like more interactive. >> we've walked about 18 miles in the last five days. which is -- pts pretty cool that we've walked that far. >> reporter: seems fun and productive, right? maybe not. philadelphia police are urging these gamers watch where you're going. on social media players post injuries like badges of honor. twisting ankles, walking into signs, even being hit by cars. >> i got close to a car. >> reporter: seriously? >> it was on the sidewalk. that's not my fault. >> there's a pikachu in the middle of the street. i was very tempted to run out and catch it. but i thought of my life. what would the pikachu do if i was dead? >> reporter: outside of st. louis these three suspects were arrested for allegedly using pokemon go to lure unsuspected players into armed robberies. what's more, experts say even

your private information could be stolen. reports that the app collects your i.p. address, your location, and even your google account if you used one to sign up. >> most of these apps are pretty secure. i'm not going to be one to use money on it. so i'm not concerned about that. but that might bring concern to other people. >> reporter: whether the app's secure or not we'll see. wandering in philadelphia, keith jones, nbc 10 news. new video tonight of a lightning strike. this couple here was walking in connecticut last thursday. then that flash right there of lightning. it actually jolted the couple, who hit the ground. also knocked down a tree. fortunately, the couple is expected to be just fine. back in our neck of the woods, no storms in sight. it's been a dry day, low humidity, feels really great. but how long is this going to last? let's get a check of your neighborhood forecast with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> the low humidity feels fantastic. but slowly tomorrow it's going to start to decrease up there. and as we go through the rest of

the week too. take a look at your morning forecast. it's going to be comfortable. temperatures pretty mild in about the low 70s. by the time you walk outside tomorrow morning expect mostly sunny skies. 71 if you're in ex--ton, reading 71 degrees tomorrow morning. your morning forecast looking pretty good. also don't forget your seven-day's always right at the bottom of the screen for you. so the first headline here, we still do have a dry stretch of weather hotter. more humid this week but most of the weather will be mostly dry over the next few days. our next rain chance, though, does come wednesday. it's not going to be for everybody, though. just for part of the area. your future weather, by tomorrow we're mostly dry. this model trying to show a few sprinkles but mostly dry tomorrow. then by wednesday in the morning we could already see some showers west of philadelphia. i think that's really going to be the best chance wednesday. if you're in new jersey don't expect too much. wednesday afternoon some showers still west of philadelphia. and then we go into wednesday night and also -- early thursday

morning. we could still see some showers trying to linger, but for the most part it's not going to be the entire area at this point. we do have a chance for a heat wave in the forecast too. 90 degree temperatures will be returning as we go into thursday. take a look at the next three days. tomorrow 88 degrees and sunny in philadelphia. wednesday we'll see a chance of a shower or thunderstorm. near 90. thursday we are back in the 90s. mid 90s. pennsylvania, suburbs dry tomorrow. a little hotter than today. wednesday chance of a shower or storm. by thursday low 90s. here in the lehigh valley you could see a shower wednesday. dry tomorrow, though, and then thursday we're in the low 90s. now, if you're in new jersey you should stay dry tomorrow and even for most of wednesday but by thursday you could see a shower. low 90s and along the shore we're looking mostly dry. if you're in delaware you will be dry tomorrow. chance of a shower wednesday. by thursday chance of a shower. but there you see it, those low 90s again. that would be 90 degree temperatures as we go into thursday. also for friday. and if we see it again on

lifted the statue off its pedestal and smashed it right on the ground. vfw leaders do not believe it was politically motivated. they say it was just ignorance. and they say they'll try to repair the statue or buy a new one. a fox's attempt to run wild and free in bucks county got him caught in a soccer net. no matter how hard he tried he could not escape on his own. and that's where rescuers came in. the new hope eagle volunteer fire company posted this video on its facebook page. you see firefighters and solberg county police officers carefully cutting the net around the little fox trying to free him on saturday. the animal was a little scared but rescue crews made sure he got back into the woods safe and sound. john clark. maybe he's running the bases now. >> well, someone was trying to tonight. toms river, new jersey tom frazier trying to win the home run derby again.
