>> we have showers in part of the area, moving through eastern maryland right now on the way to maryland -- on the way to delaware while the rest of the area is dry. these storms are moving to the northeast at about 20 miles an hour. that's going to put that heavy rainfall in middletown by 11 minutes after 4:00 this morning. and then the showers move across delaware bay and into south jersey. we're tracking some showers and there's a chance of thunderstorms during the day, too, but it's not going to be an all-day rain. not everybody will see that wet weather. 74 degrees with clouds over delaware, lehigh valley is 72, mostly clear. in philadelphia, 72 degrees and 67 degrees in the suburbs. into the 80s this afternoon, best chance of showers and;h thunderstorms will come in the subur suburbs, in the lehigh valley and delaware as well. we'll go through the futurecast hour by hour to show you where the storms are most likely to pop up when i'm back in ten minutes. first let's check in with katy zachry for traffic.

>> the vine street expressway, overnight construction closed the vine between broad street and the schuylkill expressway. we brought up the camera right here near 22nd street. you can see no activity. in fact, i keep seeing crews walk back and forth on the interstate. that's disconcerting if you're not realizing the vine is closed. hopefully the construction will lift around 5:00 a.m. drive times throughout the area, 95 southbound between woodhaven and the vine, looking good. 76 eastbound no problems there and the blue route is looking good from 95 to 76. a live look outside at our new jersey roads, 42, this should be route 42 at route 41. be aware of overnight construction and lane restrictions between 295 and route 55. tracy? >> katy, thanks. funeral services begin today for the five police officers gunned down in last week's sniper killings in dallas. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in the digital operations center with more on how the nation is

honoring them. it started with a ceremony yesterday. matt? >> that's right, tracy. president obama visited dallas to comfort the families of those fallen officers, the 11th time he has visited a city in the wake of a shooting. they came together with president obama and former president bush. five empty chairs with folded flags marked the five lost. the republicans and democrats and people of all races came together and honor them and call for change. >> too often we judge other groups by their worst examples. while judging ourselves by our best intentions. >> with an open heart we can worry less about which side has been wronged and worry more about joining sides to do right. >> family and friends will gather for funeral services for the five fallen officers. that will happen over the next four days in the dallas area the first three are set for today. also today, the president will hold a meeting at the white

house to talk about ways to repair the bonds of trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. law enforcement officials, activists and civil rights leaders are among those invited. in his speech yesterday, the president balanced the praise for police officer with harsh identification of racial bias in the criminal justice system. we'll have more from the president as well as the police chief in dallas, coming up in the next few hours. live in the digital operations center, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. several police forces from our area are showing their support as dallas prepares to lay its fallen officers to rest. ten members of the bensalem and upper southampton police departments will attend those funerals. our cameras caught them loading their motorcycles on to a trailer for the 22-hour drive. >> it's a horrible tragedy. we felt we needed to be there to help in feeling and show solidarity for our brothers. >> the upper merion and plymouth

township are sending officers to the funerals. police are looking for four people. here's a look at two of the suspects under arrest. police say the men stole eight guns and a bb rifle from a pawn shop on saturday. when police arrested the suspects they allegedly told the officers they were going to use the weapon to shoot police during protests in baton rouge. >> we have been questioned repeatedly over the laspç severl days about our show of force and why we have the tactics we have. this is the reason, because we had credible threats against the lives of law enforcement in the city. >> the arrests follow protests in baton rouge over last week's police-involved shooting of alton sterling. a threat made against three police districts is not credible. someone flagged down an officer and warned him of a threat on facebook. when investigators looked into

it, they found no evidence the threat was legitimate. this morning, employees at three atlantic city casinos are working under a new contract. the unionized worker ratified the pact with caesar's, harrah's and bally's. billionaire carl icahn owned the taj and the tropicana. a group of picketers says they will protest outside of icahn's new york offices before marching to trump tower. the woman convicted in the 2014 center city gay bashing attack is out of jail this morning on parole. >> anything you'd like to say to the victims? >> katherine knotts stayed quiet as she was released from jail last night. knot will stay on parole for the remainder of her sentence and

begin two years probation. the attack on a gay couple in center city left them with broken bones and facial injuries. the victims of the attack were made aware of knotts' parole but not did object to it. and look at this video. police help this will help solve a string of burglaries in burlington county. evesham police report 17 car burglaries since the beginning of the month. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> we are watching wilmington, delaware, for the first showers of the day. those showers and possibly thunderstorms during the day, right now the radar is showing a line of showers moving through eastern maryland. those heavy downpours in northeastern maryland will be moving into new castle county shortly. it is coming down at a pretty good clip at more than an inch and a third an hour.

that's not the only spot that will see wet weather. we'll see more showers and thunderstorms develop. this at 7:00 this morning. look at the heavy downpours in central and southern delaware. white the scattered showers are possible in some of the suburbs and the lehigh valley, into philadelphia and south jersey. that's 9:30 this morning. as we go into the afternoon, that's when more storms are likely to pop up north and we have. these could be brief heavy downpours of rain, 5:30 this afternoon and the chance of showers continuing into the evening hours. don't forget your umbrella. it's not going to be an all-day rainfall. 73 degrees at 7:00. by 11:00, 82 and 85 degrees. that's at 3:00 this afternoon. the suburbs warm into the upper 70s but it will come with wet weather starting at 11:00. a chance of late morning and afternoon showers and thunderstorms. delaware we'll see showers this morning and, again, later this morning and this afternoon, most of new jersey will be quiet. there will be a few scattered

showers during the day but most of the day it's going to be dry and at the jersey shore, mainly dry day, too, high of 82. this will not be the last of the storms nor the heat. we have temperatures that will be soaring and more showers and thunderstorms taking shape. ten-day outlook when i'm back. >> look forward to that, bill. thank you so much. 4:09. let's get you to work.ç katy zachry is watching the roads for your morning commute. >> i'm keeping my eye on 95. we know as the morning rush picks up we tend to see delays on 95. both north and southbound, this is the northbound lane, this is southbound heading into center city philadelphia, things are looking great. the drive times between woodhaven and the vine street expressway, about 15 minutes southbound, 12 or 13 minutes headed northbound. no issues there. as you do make your way further on 95, naamans road, there is construction affecting things through the weekend. i'll have those specifics coming up when i see you next.

4:12. a live look at philadelphia international airport where hundreds of workers could soon be on strike. the walkout could start just as the democratic national convention begins.ç >> if we don't get it -- >> shut it down. >> baggage handlers, wheelchair attendants and other workers voted yesterday to walk off the job during the dnc. possibly then. this is video from earlier job action. they're calling for better benefits and the ability to unionize. meantime this fall, frontier airlines will make changes to its flight schedule out of philadelphia. frontier says it's cutting ten routes from philly international at the end of october. the airline moves planes and changes routes to keep up with demand throughout the year. frontier says more adjustments will probably be made after october. philadelphia inspectors are trying to figure out what caused this house to collapse in germantown. the family living inside started noticing cracks in the walls over the weekend and then early

tuesday morning, denise wheeler woke up to a noise over her bed. >> i heard stuff falling. i looked at the wall, the crack in the wall was small like it was, it had opened up. i saw the brick inside the wall separating. >> the family rushed outside and a few hours later, the house collapsed. no one was hurt. the family is getting help from the red cross. it's 4:14. there's a new bombshell in the jerry sandusky child sex abuse scandal at penn state. according to court documents just released, former football coach joe paterno allegedly knew about the abuse as early as 1976 and did nothing. a judge unsealed hundreds of pages of documents yesterday from a lawsuit between penn state and its insurer. in those documents, a man only reference as john doue testifie in 2014 that sandusky sexually abused him in 1976 when he was 14 and john doe claimed he told

paterno about the incident the next day, but paterno said he didn't want to hear about it. a lawyer for paterno's family denies that claim. before he died in 2012, he said he first heard of the accusations against sandusky in 2001. another revelation to come out of the court documents comes from an outside expert who reviewed the settlement paid by penn state to those claiming they were sexually abused. that expert found the payments appeared to be very high and showed a desire to resolve the issue quickly. however, a lawyer who reviewed the cases has said it was an objective process and none of the claims were easy to resolve. penn state paid out $92 million to settle 32 civil claims against sandusky. a political changing of the guard happens today in great britain. david cameron will step down after six years as prime minister. teresa may will take over.

cameron announced his resignation after british voters decided to leave the european union. ♪ those words caused quite a stir at baseball's all-star game last night. one of the four members of the groups the tenors singing the canadian national anthem changed a verse to include "all lives matter." that phrase has become a common response to the movement of black lives matter. a michigan man playing the new pokemon go game helps police stop an apparent drunk driver. here's what happened. gabe loyola was looking for pokemon on saturday night when he spotted an unconscious women in her car. the car was in drive and she had her foot on the brake. he turned the car off, tried to

wake the woman but he couldn't so he called police. >> i thinkç anybody would have done the same thing. i don't think i went above and beyond. i was in the right place at the right time. i'm over here supposed to be catching pokemon, saving people, right? >> the driver was later arrested on dui charges. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> all right. we've got showers that are on the way if you're heading out right now, it's dry. but dry just for now. those showers and thunderstorms will be moving in at times during the day. there's still a chance we'll see wet weather this evening. right now, north wildwood, dry. but there is a chance of a pop-up shower. the temperatures that are coming down right now, 70 in south jersey, philadelphia, the suburbs are in the low 70s right now. we'll see those numbers climbing into the 80s this afternoon. right now, 71 in ukraieland township.

we could see showers this afternoon, this morning, 69, newtown down to 66 degrees. satellite and the radar, there you can see the showers. this heavy rainfall is moving through, heading towards middletown. you can see the wet weather just moving in. it's intensified coming down at a rate of almost 3 inches an hour. so here's your ten-day on ten for today, 88 degrees, a chance of showers and thunderstorms and the threat will be back again tomorrow. the temperatures soar, 93 tomorrow, into the middle 90s for friday and the 90s continue over the weekend. saturday and sunday, though sunday could see scattered showers and thunderstorms. low 90s monday and tuesday. by wednesday, more storms, 89 degrees. typical summer heat for thursday and friday. >> all right, bill, thanks. 4:18. let's get you to work. this steamy day, check on construction clearing, which is what we do usually about this time of the morning.

katy zachry is looking at traffic. you're looking at construction in delaware. >> looking at construction in delaware. in pennsylvania, construction usually clears around 5:00 a.m. this construction we have active on naamans road for delaware drivers is not going to clear until around 5:00 a.m. on saturday. this is where it's affecting things, naamans road between ridge road and philadelphia pike. just be aware of that. you're going to want to seek an alternate. i'm right now in the process of trying to find an alternate for you because naamans road can get so busy. that construction will not clear until 5:00 a.m. on saturday. mass transit, everything on or close to schedule right now. specific focus on septa, we know there have been delays, trains are even passing by stations because they're overcrowded. we'll keep on top of this. septa, there are only a few trains on the liens at this early hour. we'll keep our eye on septa. in just a minute, we have a live shot. i want to take you outside and show you center city philadelphia. construction is closing things

this afternoon. the men and women will then work all over south jersey, including five different counties, two universities and the fish and wildlife division. in delaware county, a show of support from police from some of chester's youngest citizens. a group of nearly 30 kids from the temple of brotherly love took to the streets. their pastor thought it would be a good idea, a good way to teach them how they can turn to police for help. police then headed to police headquarters. >> children are more observant than we think and they see how everything is going. hopefully it will inspire them to want to do better and be part of the change for our city. >> majorly added she hopes to see some of the kids on her police force oneç day. some delaware officers are working to build stronger relationships with the people they serve. new castle county police officers dished out rita's water ice yesterday. the chilling with the cops event at the community plaza shopping center on christiana road was a big hit.
