rain. it was much heavier early, and now it's starting to lighten up. now we're looking through parts of delaware, very heavy rain. especially around seaford. these precip rates are right around 3 inches an hour, more flood advisories out for parts of delaware. so, again, we can expect some localized flooding through parts of the area because of this. and once this leaves later on this evening, we actually have a lot of heat and humidity in the forecast. i'll keep tracking this rain for you, what you can expect the rest of the evening. we'll take a look at the heat as we go through tomorrow, friday, and through your weekend straight ahead. murder mystery has a local community asking who gunned down a beloved barber and newlywed who was friendly to anyone who walked by. randy gyllenhaal is live in allentown for the father murdered outside his store yesterday. randy? >> reporter: the family tells mç

eric wagner recently opened this barbershop to support his new family. he quickly became a staple in this allentown neighborhood. this memorial growing behind me, with people coming by to pay their respects. yesterday someone walked up to him and gunned him down. on the sidewalk outside headliners barbershop, loved ones light candles for 48-year-old eric wagner. >> he wanted to cut hair. >> reporter: the beloved barber sat out here almost every day, greeting customers. >> yeah, he was always sitting out in the chair. he was a good guy. >> reporter: but yesterday in the middle of the afternoon, police say someone walked up to his chair and opened fire. witnesses heard almost a dozen shots. >> i seen the guy laying right here. and i started screaming and crying and hollering. >> reporter: the suspect ran off and neighbors said he was acting strange, asking around for cigarettes prior to the

shooting. now the family of the victim is mourning a newlywed father and longtime mentor. >> he was a great man. >> reporter: his nephew said wagner taught him to play football, helping him secure a scholarship to rutgers next fall. >> from his taem, wife, crazy. now we've got to go through this. it's a big loss. i hope we get justice, though. >> reporter: the family says the motive of the shooting is unclear. they don't know anyone who would want to hurt him. police say they continue to investigate. they have a lot of evidence to look through. so far, no arrests. live in allentown, nbc 10 news. new video of a man caught on camera stealing donations from a montgomery county church that were meant to help those in need. you can see the bandit walk right in and take a handful of cash right there. this may not be his first crime. live now in ambler with the exclusive story for us.

deanna? >> reporter: police say oftentimes churches don't want to report crimes like these. they say they feel the churches believe they're people in need. police here in ambler has evidence that shows this guy is just a thief. on tape, he's caught in the arkt. this is video from inside the chapel. he reaches into the poor box and helps himself to a wad of cash. >> preying on churches is -- that's a stretch. >> reporter: ambler's police chief said he's fed up. he thinks theç same man has hi the same church three times since the end of june. they say he may have been here many times and was spotted by an alert parishioner. >> they had a parishioner that had some spidey senses to him. >> reporter: that parishioner snapped this picture july 6th. the man was already gone. looking back on the tape they say the video shows the man here

again at the end of june. and fast forward to three days after this picture was taken? video shows the man back again. not just hear in ambler. in may, this photo was taken of the man in a church in delaware county. police there tell me the man was spotted by the church pastor and when he was confronted, he told the pastor he dropped his ring in the poor box and was just getting it out. police say this guy was seen driving away from both churches in a nice, small, suv. >> somebody who's using the kindness of people to his advantage. >> reporter: now, oftentimes police say those video recordings are not monitored unless the churches have a rein to go back and look. since this guy has been able to get in and out of churches undetected, they believe there are many other churches in several other towns, even

several other counties, they're asking for your help to identify him. reporting live in ambler, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. we have new video of a dog napper who stached a puppy in a plastic bag and stope it right from the store at playful pets. carrying around the yorkshire puppy after removing it from its pen. he looks around before hiding the puppy inside the bag and then just walks right out the door. striking casino workers in slaek city took their protests to trump towers in new york today. dozens of workers from the trump taj mahal demonstrated outside trump's office. the protesters say icahn and trump profited from the taj mahal even after it went through multiple bankruptcies. about 1,000 workers went on strike july 1st after their union was unable to agree on a

contractor. workers at harrah's, bally's will vote on their contract tomorrow.ç to decision 2016. coverage this afternoon, brand-new poll numbers show the race for the white house is tightening up including right here in pennsylvania. a new poll shows hillary clinton ahead of donald trump by just nine points in pennsylvania. back in april, clinton had a 15-point lead. in iowa, trump has narrowed the gap even more. he's just three points behind clinton there. in ohio they're tied at 39% each. donald trump is narrowing his list of vice presidential contenders as well and plans to pick one of them by friday. sources with the trump campaign saying it's down to former house speaker newt gingrich, chris christie and mike pence. trump met with pence this morning at the indiana governor's residence. the presumptive republican nominee also said alabama

senator jeff sessions is in the mix. hillary clinton returned to her birth state of illinois today. she campaigned at the old state house in springfield. she crossed a political milestone yesterday winning the endorsement of bernie sanders. the latest nbc news "wall street journal" poll shows 78% of sanders supporters will vote for clinton. warren is being vetted as a possible running mate for clinton, but the vice presidential candidate typically speaks on wednesday night of the convention. the dnc, of course, in philadelphia july 25th through the 28th. but first, it's the republican national convention in cleveland. our team of reporters will be there covering every angle for you. look for live reports starting sunday night. thousands of mourners gathered today to pay their final respects to three of the five dallas police officers who

died in the line of duty last week. family and friends filled the church to remember and celebrate the life of corporal lorne ahrens. his wife and family sat with smith's partner for the past five years. one of the daughters of brent thompson spoke at his funeral about how proud she was of her father. >> one thing i would always say to my dad when he walked out the door was, good-bye, daddy, i love you, be safe. and tonight we say our final good-bye, daddy, we love you, be safe. >> funerals for the other twoç officers are scheduled for friday and saturday. micah johnson shot and killed thompson, smith and ahrens along with the other two officers last thursday night during a protest over deadly police shootings. police used a robot bomb to kill

>> it's not going to run someone down. it can't go through deep water. >> reporter: it shows investigators in their safe remote location exactly what it sees. watch and listen as it communicates with me. it's been used thousands of times. >> between bomb jobs, we have barricaded suspects, we automatically deploy robots. >> reporter: in barricade situations, it could take negotiators eight to ten hours to apprehend a suspect. the robot's capabilities diminish that time to under two hours. the question remains, will police here at home use it to kill, if necessary. could it also be used the same way? >> well, generally we would not use it to hurt anybody. unfortunately, with terrorist events and things of that nature, these are options that may have to be considered. >> reporter: ultimately designed to save time, and save lives. those of suspects and law

enforcement. >> many, many lives. not just in new jersey. across the country. >> reporter: cydney long, nbc 10 news. new details today about the burden put on taxpayers to capture an inmate who escaped back in may. the week-long search for arthur buckle cost taxpayers more than $180,000 to pay for law forcement over time. you remember he escaped from bayside state prison in cumberland county, found six days later in ocean county. nbc 10 has learned a woman who fell to her death in the grand canyon last week grew up in delaware county. she was hiking on a trail friday with friends when she lost her footing. rangers later found her body 400 feet below. the 35-year-old lived in morton, and west to cardinal o'hare high school. she later moved to orlando. the group had just snapped a photo near a landmark when burns fell. >> like stepping out of the way

for another gentleman to kind of squeeze in. and unfortunately tripped up on her own feet and fell backwards. fell into the canyon. >> the national park service and local county medical examiner are investigating burns' death. the cdc is trying to calm concerns over the rio olympics next month. the risk for transmission of the virus is low for visitors to the games, because august is actually a winter month in the southern hemisphere. the cooler and drier weather typically reduces mosquito populations, but health officials still discourage pl women from traveling to brazil during the games. they're just 23 days from the summer games. and nbc 10 is your home for all the action starting august 5th. federal appeals court has rejected tom brady's deflategate appeal.

in april a three-judge panel said nfl commissioner roger goodell had the power to suspend brady for games. his only hope of playing in the opener in september is to appeal his case to the u.s. supreme court. new jersey senate president has a new plan to raise the gas tax to fund transportation projects currently on hold. democrat steve sweeney met with governor chris christie yesterday, but neither side is saying what tax cuts would come with a gas tax increase. earlier this month, sweeney slammed the brakes on a late night deal brokered between christie and the assembly speaker. the governor responded by ordering a week-long suspension of several construction road projects. >> want to be a philadelphia firefighter? a new recruitment drive was kicked off today in north philadelphia. fire commissioner adam teal and a group of firefighters put on a demonstration for potentialç

recruits. the open enrollment application period begins on monday. you can apply on line. a furs look at one of philadelphia's new skyscrapers that will change the city skyline. this transformation on south 11th street is just one of several new buildings that will change the face of center city. nbc 10's monique braxton joins us live with more on how it's part of a building boom in philadelphia. monique? >> reporter: that's right, denise. you know, we've spent the day here in center city visiting construction sites like this one, and talking to people about the the projects they say on their way to work and back home. it seems that everywhere you look, a crane is part of the philadelphia skyline, demolishing the old to make the way for new construction. >> looking forward to the skyscrape skyscrapers. looking to the left here, we see one across the street from the

lowe's hotel. new things are happening. >> reporter: we went inside one site. the $600 million project sits on the old philadelphia family court property. these four acres between market and chestnut and 11th and 12th will soon house merchants and apartments. >> we've been waiting for the next cycle where it made sense to build new. >> reporter: this realtor tells us in one building, there will be more than 300 apartments facing market street. next door, there are eight floors of commercial space. we did some digging and found the city's licenses and inspections has issued more than 21,000 permits last year. more than 19,000 the year before. the chamber of commerce tells us it has 300 new members or businesses. >> it's nice to see that there's growth in the city. but keep in mind the city's

already grown enough, so there's already a lot of congestion as it is. >> reporter: and in the next hour, we're going to look at how many new homes are arriving in philadelphia, and how folks feel about it. live for now in center city, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. and monique speaking of a building boom. a mill building will become home in a kensington neighborhood. they received a loan to create more than 50 affordable housing units in this building at ruth and east somerset streets. when construction is finished, this is what theç building wil look like. the space will also be home to several retailers as well as offices. well, we have showers and storms around the area right now. and most of it is on the heavier side. not for everybody, though. here's one area of storms moving into the lehigh valley. if you're in the lehigh valley

right now, you'll be seeing an area of heavy rain moving towards you by about 4:20, rich land. allentown closer to about 5:04. that's what we have moving into the lehigh valley right now for the rest of the area, though, we're just seeing kind of scattered showers and storms around. through south jersey, this is mostly light rain. in parts of delaware, we also have light to heavy rain, too. we'll zoom into delaware. we've been seeing quite a bit of rain in these areas. especially as you get closer to sussex county. that's where we still actually have some heavier rain right around long neck, seaford and points south. a lot of the rain you're seeing in delaware has in fact lightened up compared to what we had about an hour or two ago. in parts of new castle and kent counties, we have light to moderate scattered rain. moving across the delaware bay and into south jersey, the green there showing you the lighter rain. it is really lightening up as it moves into south jersey.

cape may to the expressway and parts of salem and cumber land county up to philadelphia. that's where we start to see scattered lighter rain here. this on radar is mostly just spotty for the time being. as we go through the rest of this evening, the rain is going to really start to taper off. again, the heavier rain we're seeing through the lehigh valley will continue moving into parts of allen town there. in parts of delaware, a flood advisory earlier, just got canceled. now we're looking at parts of the lehigh valleys. north hampton, through parts of bucks county and montgomery county, up to about 2 inches of rain in these spots. this flood advisory will go until 6:00 p.m., because we've seen quite a bit of heavy rain. we could see localized street and creek flooding. if you're in these areas, keep that in mind. you never want to drive through flooded roadways. that even extends through parts of the lehigh valley. we'll keep watching that all for the rest of this evening. and then once it clears, we have a lot of heat and humidity moving in.

excessive heat warnings are up. the excessive heat advisory or just heat advisory for surrounding areas, outside of 9 philadelphia section, but there you see the brighter pink color, that's where you expect temperatures to feel likeç trie digits tomorrow. excessive heat warning today and tomorrow. feel like triple digits. today we've gotten into the low 80s, not feeling too much hotter especially with the rain arnold. temperatures around 93 degrees. friday, 94, feeling line 100. we'll not feel like triple digits on saturday. we still could be in the low 90s. things are going to be heating up here. here's a look through the rest of the evening, though, with the showers around. they'll be lasting for a little bit longer. i think most of the area by 7:30 will start to dry out more. we could have lingering showers around them. maybe north and west of philadelphia. later on this evening. but tomorrow i think it will be a mostly dry day. we'll still have clouds around. in the afternoon, hot and humid.

umbrellas here near independence mall today. here's a live look at the forecast where you can see there are pockets of rain across the area. >> let's get right to meteorologist sheena parveen tracking those showers for us. i got caught in one of those today, sheena. >> yeah, you were listening last night. >> i was. >> well, you need the umbrella still through this evening. we still have the showers around right now. if you are heading out, they're still kind of scattered in nature. some heavier than others. not everyone is seeing it at the same time. but they're pretty scattered north and west of philadelphia and in south jersey and delaware. we'll start in delaware, because we actually have very heavy rain that has been prompting flood warnings across sussex county, seaford very heavy rain still as well as longneck and the delaware beaches. this is not really moving. that's why we've seen those flood advisories in sussex county. parts of cape may, mostly lighter rain at the moment. south jersey, pretty widespread light rain, up through philadelphia. and now we're looking into parts

of montgomery county where we have steady light rain and more moderate rain for parts of the lehigh valley. mostly in berks county right now, but heading into the lehigh valley. heavier rain moving at 25 miles an hour, so not a fast mover. rainfall rates, though, with the heavier amounts now, we're looking back into southern delaware. close to three inches an hour. we'll watch that closely. north and west of philadelphia, though, we have the flood advisories out until about 8:15 now, which has been extended in the areas that we're currently seeing quite a bit of rainfall. not moving too much, up to about 2 inches of rain possible. it's all going to be leaving the area tonight and excessive heat warning tomorrow. temperatures will get into the mid-90s. humidity will make it feel like triple digits. this the last for thursday and friday. we'll talk about the timing rain and your weekend forecast coming up. now to "nbc 10 responds," a

woman said her water bill suddenly hiked five times in just one month. >> she contacted "nbc 10 responds" and harry hairston is here with her story. >> thisç woman really needed se help. she says the water company promised to get to the bottom of the issue. suddenly it took unexpected action leaving her overflowing with frustration. jennifer said she doesn't use much water at her home. >> never received a water bill over $60, $70. >> reporter: but back in january, she got one for 500 bucks. what went through your mind? >> i thought it was a joke. >> reporter: problem is, her water company aqua water was serious. santana said that customers relations insisted she use $500 worth of water in just two weeks. >> i said, it doesn't make any sense. >> reporter: santana said the

company told her to check for leaks. her toilets were properly working. she told us she hired a plumber. >> he came out and said, there's nothing leaking. >> reporter: this is the new one? she said aqua also told her there might be a problem with her meter and offered to check it out for a $10 fee. >> the meters look good. >> reporter: aqua agreed to put her bill on hold until they figured out what caused her bill to spike. but she says two months later aqua took some action without warning. >> they disconnected my water. >> reporter: she said the company told her to pay the bill if she wanted her service back on. she did. and then she contacted "nbc 10 responds." >> i wanted my money back. >> reporter: aqua told us to ask santana to reach out to the team leader directly. they connected, and after we got

and as we get closer to philadelphia, more steady light to moderate rainfall. that's from wilmington through philadelphia, spotty up toward trenton. around the major interstate, p.a. turnpike here, the roadways are wet for the evening commute. i imagine there's going to be a slower drive out there. chester county seeing moderate to heavy rainfall in some spots there. allentown starting to see the heavy rain approaching from berks county. that's all moving very slowly, though. it's only moving about 20 miles an hour. that's why we're going to pay a close eye on this part. across the major interstates like 78 toward allentown, heavier across 476 and near reading. this is all slowly moving to the north and east. there is a flood advisory out for these areas, because we already saw heavy rain earlier this afternoon, too. up this is for parts of montgomery, bucks county, berks county and parts of chester county. up to two inches. we could be seeing localized street and creek flooding, and

advisories until 7:15. be cautious of that. here's future weather. we're looking at 8:00 p.m. i think a lot of the rain will be winding down. north and west of philadelphia, suburbs could be seeing showers left over. overnight, we're fairly dry. tomorrow morning, waking up to a drier start to the day, but a humid day, too. even as we go through the afternoon. 3:00 p.m., can't rule out a couple of pop-up showers. i think part of the area could see that. it's going to be hot and humid tomorrow afternoon. that's even going to last as we go into friday. we have an excessive heat warning through parts of the area from new castle county up to mercer county. and a heat advisory for surrounding parts. so everyone's going to feel it with the 90-degree temperatures and the humidity. both thursday and friday feeling like triple-digit heat, right around 100 degrees. take a look at what we expect. today we're in about the mid-80s with the rain around. tomorrow, 93. tomorrow, 94. saturday, 91. sunday, 90 degrees. that would officially be heat

you've probably seen or heard about the enormous popularity of the pokemon smartphone go app. they're telling hunters to stay away, but not the national park service. today the park service director released this video. it encourages pokemon enthusiasts to look for the pesky creatures at one of america's national parks. there's even more love for the pokemon creatures down on the boardwalk. >> as nbc 10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg shows us, some businesses are cashing in on the act. >> reporter: phones out, eyes on the screens. wildwood's boardwalk is filled with people hooked on pokemon go. >> i play it pretty much nonstop. >> reporter: the augmented reality app brought these brothers to mariners arcade in search of pokemon characters
