obama addressed yet another terror attack. >> we will not be deterred. we will not relent. we're going to keep working together to prevent attacks and defend our homeland. we're going to keep taking out isil leaders and pushing isil back in syria and iraq. we're going to keep standing with our partners from africa to afghanistan and we're going to destroy this vial terrorist organization. >> nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal talked to the local french community and also looked at city at philadelphia's major events. >> reporter: summer in large cities like philadelphia means large groups of people gathering in public places, and experts say these small barricades aren't going to stop a madman. but there is something police can do as we begin to learn more about this evolving terror threat. as big crowds of tourists squeeze into open public spaces -- >> it could happen at any time, anyplace. >> reporter: there's growing fear after the attack in france

that terror is even tougher to prevent. >> people are figuring out how they can create the most destruction. >> reporter: after the attack in nice last night, the weapon of choice, a simple but deadly truck, targeting a soft spot full of innocent people. >> guns are one thing, or bombs, poison. but being able to rent a truck and kill over 80 people, i don't know. >> reporter: experts call attacks like this a form of low-tech terror. >> let this be a lesson to everyone, you don't need a bomb to cause mass casualties. 80-plus people dead all from a motor vehicle. >> reporter: the do-it-yourself assaults are posted online. >> it's very detailed. this is how you're going to carry out an attack. this is a bomb recipe. this is a method to cause mass casualties. >> reporter: nbc 10 surveyed terror and security experts who say there's no easy solution. these attacks are hard to prevent, renting a truck is easier than getting a bomb. but police can use vehicular

barricades like those at the white house to protect crowds, and road closures like we'll see during the dnc can keep suspicious vehicles away. and vigils are planned for the victims here locally tomorrow. eastern state penitentiary will hold a moment of silence during their bastille day festivities. at valley forge, local french groups will hold a memorial. on the parkway, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. we're also following breaking news out of turkey tonight. the military trying to take control of its country. it's called a coup. this is a live picture right now. the soldiers are stopping traffic. the military says it has taken power. this is video of tanks rolling through the streets. the u.s. state department confirmed reports of gunshots and an attempted uprising. americans in turkey are told to shelter in place. turkey, by the way, is a key ally to nato. we'll keep a close eye on this

"nightly news" following both international stories, of course. lester holt will broadcast live from nice tonight at 6:30 and have the latest on what's happening in turkey as well. now to new details about a woman found in a trunk in mayfair. nbc 10's brandon hudson just talked to the woman who called police to check out that car. brandon, what did she have to say to you? >> reporter: keith, she told me she was searching for her sister. she's been missing. she found a car that she believed to be her 23-year-old sister, smelled a strange odor and then called police. her mother and daughter showed up at the intersection of shellmeyer avenue and leon street. the mom was quite emotional while speaking to police. the family told me that the 23-year-old was missing for nine days. nbc 10 learned around 1:30 this afternoon, the call came in to police, that a woman's body was

found in the trunk of the chevrolet. here's what one of her sisters had to say. >> when i got here, i said that looks like my sister's car. the license plate, i got out and checked the license plate. and as i did, i noticed something coming from the trunk of the car, a bad smell. rotten. and then it was my sister. >> reporter: police have just reopened this block, the 7500 block of leon street. we'll try to bring you new information on nbc 10 news at 11:00. we'll update you on facebook and twitter as well. brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. to the sweltering heat outside. you sweat just walking around. a beer garden just opened up. earlier today, children beat the heat and had some fun inside the

philadelphia police and fire departments. nbc 10 in the 12th district, kids really enjoyed themselves from balloons to face painting as you just saw. it was a day to remember for these little guys. let's talk to meteorologist sheena parveen. sheena, a lot of people are asking us, will the dangerous heat stick around for the weekend. >> yeah. temperatures are still be in the 90s this weekend. still going to be very hot outside. we have the first alert out because of the heat. it's going to continue for the rest of today. so expect the heat and humidity to make some areas feel like the mid to upper 90s. we also have poor air quality in new jersey because of the heat and husmt. if you have asthma, or even with children and the elderly, you don't want to be outside for extended periods of time in new jersey because of that poor air quality. temperatures now are around 90 degrees for most of the area. 91 philadelphia. 87 wilmington. 88 in vineland. atlantic city 91 degrees.

speak. the theme for wednesday is working together. president barack obama and vice president joe biden are the headliners. and on the final day of the convention, thursday, it's stronger together. hillary clinton and her daughter chelsea will be speaking. now, when hillary clinton's running mate will speak, that's going to be announced once hillary makes a decision. you can expect parking restrictions when the convention comes to town. today the city announced that it will be banning median parking on south broad street between washington and packer avenues. sunday, july 24th, then it will run through the 29th. city officials are also asking residents to check the street signs in their neighborhoods to make sure that there won't be any temporary restrictions. the postal service will temporarily close some blue collection boxes in several zip codes including 19102, 19106 and 19107. >> rosemary, thanks. tourism officials in

montgomery county have 17 million reasons to pull out all the stops for the dnc guests. those guests will pump in millions of dollars into the local economy. nbc 10's deanna durante shows us how tourism efforts hope to pay off big-time. >> reporter: this family is a real local family. >> we're in the tourism center at the park. so we went out and checked out some of the sights as a family. we were able to experience a lot of the cool historical things that are available in the area. >> reporter: the group of four is featured in a tourism ad to attract dnc guests to valley forge national park. >> they were new to us. >> reporter: the family is here in king of prussia looking to educate others what the area has to offer. >> i make the best biscuits and gravy in the area. >> reporter: that's a skill john lockhart will count on for delegates who may want southern fare. chefs, skydivers, and bison

welcoming the dnc guests. $17 million is expected to be pumped into the local economy. and of course, there is room for more. >> we've got ziplining, we've got over 50 golf courses. >> reporter: tourism officials spent a year luring dnc guests to the area. they want them to get out and spend time and money at the attractions they can fit in. >> absolutely. valley forge is one of the central places in american history. >> reporter: delegates will be staying here in the king of prussia and landsdale. every night they'll have police escorts taking them into the city. the idea, to get them there quickly and make it painless on commuters. meanwhile, hillary clinton kept a low profile today in washington. nbc news reports clinton held meetings in her home about possibilities for her vice president running mate. her campaign quickly released an ad today targeting trump's pick of governor mike pence.

>> i long for the day that roe versus wade is sent to the ash heap of history. >> the clinton campaign said the trump-pence ticket stands in dramatic contrast to clinton's vision for the future, where, quote, unity prevails over division, and the economy works for all americans, not just those at the top, end quote. there are new revelations tonight about donald trump's choice for vice presidential running mate. nbc news has learned trump made calls late last night and asked if he could change his mind. this morning, trump made it official, though, when he tweeted out he's picked indiana governor mike pence to be his vp. trump was supposed to hold a news conference today. but delayed it until tomorrow in light of what happened in france. the republican national convention starts on monday. nbc 10 will have special coverage live from the rnc, starting all next week. we'll have a team of anchors and reporters in cleveland. watch nbc 10 live at the republican national convention,

7:00 every night of that convention. turning our sights to this now. in less than an hour, an nfl player from philadelphia is holding his first charity fund-raiser for the family of philadelphia police sergeant robert wilson. floyd will be in south philly. there's a silent auction with a lot of memorabilia, signed by he and his teammates. and also some current eagles players. wilson was shot and killed when he stopped to buy a game for his son's birthday last year. it's going to be a busy night in antioch. but not what you would expect. cleanup should be wrapping up. a few hours after a water main broke more than 12 hours ago. there was a lot of mud, dozens of businesses forced to close. most hope to reopen tonight. but we're told the restaurant jake's was hit the hardest and won't open tonight. a blow for the local economy in montgomery county.

handing over her wallet and phone when a man pointed a gun at her and then got away on a bike. it happened last saturday morning on roof street in germantown. police released surveillance video of a man on a bike outside the cell phone store. you can see the video. the man goes into the metro pcs, there it is. police say he tried to sell a phone. does sell. but the woman tracked her iphone to that very store.

moving down to the coast. the oceans, the bays, they're expected to be crowded this weekend at the jersey shore. in the past month there have already been two tragedies. ted greenberg has a warning for boaters. >> reporter: when pete and debbie hint the water, he work together as a team. >> my wife is my spotter. you've got to be looking everywhere. >> reporter: the coast guard and new jersey state police are urging boaters and jet skiers to remember that you need to know what you're doing. and do it safely. >> you wouldn't just jump in a car without getting your permit and trained. >> you see people not paying attention. you know, or they're just hot dogging it, going faster than they really should be. >> reporter: just last weekend, a hainesport father was killed in a boating accident. over july 4th weekend, a man and his 10-year-old son from upstate new york died in a jet ski crash

in summers point. >> make sure you're familiar with whatever you're taking out, whether it be a small boat, a jet ski, canoe, kayak. >> reporter: the coast guard's app has lists of required equipment including life jackets. plus recommended equipment, safety checks and tests. another reminder, don't operate a boat unless you're sober. >> if you get pulled over for boating under the influence, it will be treated like driving under the influence. >> reporter: new jersey state police tell me both deadly crashes are still under investigation. no charges have been filed in either case. in atlantic city, i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. now, your nbc 10 first alert weather. well, another hot one today. if you're heading out this evening, it's going to stay very warm and humid tonight. even if you're heading to the phillies game, it's going to be very warm for that. a live look at center city. we're still in the clear from any rain relief. but the heat we're dealing with

right now, it can be potentially dangerous. we're getting into the later hours so things will start to cool down just a bit. your seven-day forecast is always scrolling at the bottom of the screen for you. as far as our temperatures along the shore, we're looking at temperatures mostly right aro90 degrees. if you're along the immediate shoreline, we have temperatures that are mostly in the upper 80s. if you look at that seven-day, we have temperatures that are going to be staying right around 90 degrees as we go through this weekend. so very dangerous heat in the forecast for now. but as we go through the weekend, the humidity won't be making it feel so much like triple-digit heat. we'll take a closer look at the ten-day forecast through the area, because that shows you how hot we'll stay as we go through the weekend, and even as we go into next week. so straight ahead, we'll show you that forecast as well as your shore forecast. we'll take a look at all that coming up in your first alert neighborhood weather forecast. don't forget, you can always catch that right at the bottom of your screen.

we have hot temperatures out there still. 91 degrees in philadelphia. 87 in delaware. if you're at the shore, you're feeling the heat, too. 91 degrees ocean city right now. summers point 91. atlantic city 89. 91 degrees in wood vine. heading to the shore this weekend, that is the place to be. it's still going to be very warm. excessive heat warning still out until 8:00 p.m. potentially dangerous heat across the area from new castle up to mercer county. also we have an air quality alert until 11:00 p.m. for new jersey. unhealthy ozone levels. avoid strenuous activity outside because of that. we'll be staying mostly dry tonight, and to start off your weekend. just another hot day. saturday, pop-up showers. we can't rule that out in the afternoon. sunday, first half of the day looks dry. another hot one. by the afternoon, chance of pop-up showers or a thunderstorm. but again, it's not going to ruin your weekend by any means.
