what you want in life. >> melania trump accused of stealing some of the same words michelle obama used for her convention speech eight years ago. it is these charges of political plagiarism that are the talk of the town here tonight. good evening, everyone. once again i'm jim rosenfield at the q in cleveland. big night for donald trump and the republican party here at the national convention. supposed to be his night in the spotlight here, but as we mentioned, his campaign trying to brush aside this big controversy centering on his wife's speech last night and those allegations that she pulled some of michelle obama's words from her 2008 speech. take a listen. >> from a young age, my parents impressed on me -- >> barack and i were raised with so many -- >> the values -- >> the same values -- >> that you work hard for what you want in live. >> you work hard for what you want in life.

>> melania trump's speech a big topic of conversation here at the convention and out and about in cleveland. lauren is down on the floor inside the q. she's been talking to some of the local delegations to get their reaction to the speech. lauren, what are they saying? >> reporter: you know, jim, they are not crazy about this distraction, and they liked melania trump's speech. remember, this was a big moment last night. donald trump coming out and introducing her. her speaking to this huge crowd. we really don't hear her speak to large crowds like this very often, so that was sort of all part of the buzz that this is creating here, but the delegates i talked to, they liked what she had to say, they liked how she presented herself. take a listen to how some local pennsylvania delegates responded.

make, nbc 10 news. jim, back to you. >> and, lauren, so far as far as we know, that has not happened, no one on trump's staff has been fired, at least not at this point. so let's talk about what's on tap tonight right here at the q. big lineup ahead. coming up in about an hour, the official nomination process. that will begin and that's when the roll call happens and all the states send their support to trump. and following a convention tradition, trump's home state of new york will be the state that puts him over the top for the nomination. the theme of the night is make america work again, and it's going to focus on the economy and also on job creation. and two of trump's children will speak tonight. donald trump, jr. and tiffany trump. also former presidential hopefuls ben carson and close confidant new jersey governor chris christie. we will also hear from him about k 9:45 or so. take a look at the scene outside the rock and roll hall of fame from this morning. police arrested three people for climbing flag holes to hang an

anti-trump banner, that banner calling for a ban on fracking and for knocking down the proposed wall that trump is proposing with mexico. an estimated 300 police officers on bikes, in fact, are in downtown cleveland during the rnc to try to keep everything orderly and keep everything safe. so today we learned about the first change for an upcoming presidential debate because of security concerns. it is being moved. wright state university in dayton was supposed to host it on september 23rd, but they cited security costs associated with that hosting, so late this afternoon hofstra university in new york agreed that it would host that first presidential debate. as we said, it comes up on september 23rd. coming up at 5:30, we have much more for you. we're going to be talking to a so-called plagiarism expert, if you will, at villanova university to get his take on melania trump's speech last night. for now though reporting live in cleveland, i'm jim rosenfield,

83. new jersey coming in mostly sunny, 83 degrees there. lehigh valley 84 degrees. and if you are in delaware, you're at 87 degrees right now, and it's that wind direction that's helping to get that humidity lower and at a more comfortable level. so if you're in wilmington, your temperature 87 degrees right now. by 8:00 p.m., 82. by 11:00 a comfortable 76 and as we go into tomorrow, many areas will be waking up with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s and dry. it will feel really nice when you step outside tomorrow morning. as we go into thursday and the rest of the week, that's when the humidity, that's going to go up along with hotter temperatures into the weekend. so we'll take a look at that forecast coming up. skyforce 10 was above as hundreds of workers protested outside philadelphia international airport. it happened outside terminal a this morning. they carried a sign that says respect black workers. baggage handler, cabin cleaners,

and wheelchair attendants were among those demonstrating. they want a minimum wage of $15 per hour and to join a union. for a south jersey man under arrest charged with stabbing his wife to death in their home this morning. nitin singh is charged with first-degree murder. authorities say he stabbed his wife while their three children slept upstairs. authorities say the kids didn't witness the killing. two more suspects in the bastille day truck attack are now in the hands of french intelligence. the two are among six people in custody in connection with that attack in nice. they'll likely face terrorism charges. 84 people died in the july 14th attack when a tunisian man plowed through crowds watching fireworks on the french riviera. he was eventually shot by police. the white house today released an open letter president obama wrote to law enforcement. that letter was written the day

after three police officers were killed in baton rouge. in it the president writes that the nation will get through the aftermath of the recent killings. he said nothing justifies the attacks and that, quote, we have your backs. meantime, the funeral for a dallas police officer killed in an ambush was held in his michigan hometown. officers carried michael krol's casket into the church outside detroit. the 40-year-old was one of five officers shot and killed during a demonstration on july 7th. his family says being a police officer was krol's life dream. a group much police chiefs from our area came together this morning, and they shared ideas about how to improve relations between police and the public. police chiefs from bensalem, upper darby, haverford, and other community leaders were at a coffee house in ardmore. they talked about how to rebuild trust between police and the people they serve. >> you light up the interior of the car, roll the window down,

at the quicken loans arena is jim schultz, one of our republican analysts, and the big story, of course, that everybody is talking about is the speech from melania trump last night and these allegations that some of her words were lifted from a michelle obama speech. some are saying this is a sign of a trump campaign in chaos. what do you make of it? >> well, the unfortunate thing is when mistakes like this happen, it takes away from the great things that happened here last night. we've talked about military. we've talked about supporting veterans. we heard from speakers about protecting our borders, and we heard from a heartfelt speech from the mother of one of the folks lost in benghazi, and we lose all of that when all we're doing is talking about plagiarism here today. and the campaign is going to have to deal with that. i wouldn't say it's chaos but they have some work to do. >> it's a distraction, that's for sure at this point. what about tonight and this roll call of states? can we expect that to go smoothly or are we going to see some other dustups as we saw yesterday on the floor from the

we do not expect the storms we had last night. we'll be in a dry stretch for a while. even as the heat and humidity return. we could have a few pop-up showers here and there in the afternoon going through the weekend, but it's really going to stay mostly dry and also hot. so take a look at future temperatures. we're pretty warm across the area now, but it's not that humid. then we go into the end of the week. the heat returns back into the 90s. humidity comes along with it, and for saturday and sunday, we'll be feeling around 100 degrees. so it's going to be another really hot weekend coming in the forecast. here is a look at the next three days. philadelphia tomorrow, 87 degrees. low humidity. dry, 92 by thursday. more humid. by friday, 96 degrees and even more humid. pennsylvania suburbs mid-80s. 91 thursday. bifried by friday, 95. low humidity tomorrow morning. low temperature around 60 degrees and that's going to be very comfortable. thursday, 90 degrees. friday, 94 with more humidity.

crane collapsed today. take a look. authorities say that crane fell over into a barge before crashing across all lanes of the tappan zee bridge. it was being used to construct a new bridge alongside the old one. at least one car was hit by debris causing a small wreck. one person was injured but is doing okay. and now to the latest from turkey. the turkish ministry of education fired more than 1500 employees for their alleged involvement in last week's failed coup. they're also calling on an additional 1500 deans to resign. and within the past hour, nbc 10 has learned that turkish officials have officially sent an extradition request for cleric gulen. they allege he plotted last week's military coup. gulen has been living in exile in monroe county for years and is a long-time critic of the turkish government. we're learning more about the teen who carried out yesterday's train attack in

germany. officials say the 17-year-old afghan man who used an ax to attack several train riders had just learned his friend was killed in afghanistan. isis has claimed responsibility for the attack. two of the four injured suffered life threatening injuries. i want you to see the surveillance video of a father and his daughter being robbed at gun point earlier this month. police say the suspect wearing the hat to the left pointed a gun at the girl and asked the dad to give him everything he had or he would shoot. that happened on july 10th. the father handed over money and a cell phone. no shots were fired luckily. no one was injured. from our lehigh valley bureau police say a supervisor at a sands casino resort in bethlehem tried to steal $3,000 worth of chips from a craps table by hiding them in her bra. authorities said cameras recorded the woman dropping and picking up $500 purple chips

into a hallway and placing something in her bra while in an elevator. police say she admitted to that crime. a northampton ocounty man i sentenced to six months in jail for shooting at his girlfriend's son in an argument over a hermit crab. he fired a shot in the vicinity of the boy in april. he says he thought the boy's father was reaching for his gun during an argument over the crab so he pulled his weapon first. a royal wedding thrust her into the spotlight, and tonight she's off the market. details ahead. plus, pokemon problems. why the hottest app in the world is causing worries about this water tower.

governor thom wolf, the physician general, and the secretary of the department of drug and alcohol programs held a news conference today and they talked about the administration's new prescribing guidelines for opioids by doctors, dentists, and farm sibss. >> the reduction of opioid prescriptions is absolutely essential to curb this crisis. >> by the end of august a map system will serve as a central database for opioid prescribers. it will allow them to see what has been prescribed to a patient and by whom. turns out pokemon go is the gift that keeps on giving, at least for nintendo. shares of the japanese gamemaker closed up 14% today. that's more than double in value since the game was launched on july 6th. nintendo accounted for nearly 1 in 4 shares that changed hands on the main board. the game is yet to be released in japan and the rest of asia too. the city of kingsley, michigan, is asking the gamemakers to remove a water tower from the pokemon hotspots

randy gyllenhaal is following this story for us. >> a lot of people aren't going to like hearing that. so randy, why is the fix going to take longer? >> reporter: septa says just because they have to entirely replace each of those crash faulty steel beams. there's about 480 of them, and that process could take you through september. for rush hour commuters, a septa fix can't come soon enough. take joe west, waiting for his train home at jefferson station. >> it's never been this bad. i have never seen it this bad before. >> this is just typical of us making changes. >> reporter: but today a light at the end of the tunnel. septa announcing plans to entirely replace each and every faulty steel beam, more than 400, many with dangerous cracks. >> we have to figure out how fast we can get them made and put on the fleet. >> septa's general manager says they hope to begin production by august using a brand new design, forging the beams from steel, and starting from scratch.

>> it is a decline in ridership. >> reporter: at a hearing today local lawmakers in northeast philly grilled septa officials asking who is to blame for the cracked beams. >> it seems pretty clear that the problem is an engineering problem from hyundai. >> state rep kevin boyle called the meeting wanting to know who will pay for the repairs. septa says the problem is covered under warranty. >> pleased to hear from septa that it is their belief that the taxpayers will not have to foot the bill for any of this. >> reporter: and in the meantime septa is hoping for more reinforcements. officials actually traveled to boston hoping to get some borrowed trains from that city. we're live at septa headquarters, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. >> thank you so much. moving down south, delaware's fort christina ready to welcome visitors once again. today the national historic landmark was reopened today. the site had been closed for

mid-80s. even along the shore we're in the mid-80s and if the delaware very comfortable outside. greenville, 86. marshallton, 87. if you're in odessa, you're at 86 right now. for kent county, temperatures mostly mid to low 80s. dalton, 82. even right along the beaches in sussex county, temperatures near 80 degrees. dewey beach at 78 degrees. we'll keep this break from the humidity going even as we go into tomorrow and, in fact, tomorrow morning is going to be very comfortable. many areas will be in the 60s to start. so look at the lehigh valley for tomorrow. 63 for the morning low temperature. if you're in reading and combined with the low humidity, it's going to feel really nice when you walk outside. 87 for an afternoon high if you're in easton. 85 for the high tomorrow, mostly sunny. phoenixville, 86 for the high tomorrow. philadelphia area coming in right around 87. mostly sunny. morning lows in the mid-60s. hattenfield, 86 degrees tomorrow

morning. 83 atlantic city. if you're in delaware areas like dover, 84 degrees for the afternoon high. mostly sunny, humidity stays low. so another comfortable day. but then we go into thursday. the 90s are going to come back. the humidity is going to come back and into the weekend it's actually going to feel closer to 100 degrees again. so friday, saturday, and sunday we do expect it to feel like triple digit feet. friday, 96 feeling like 100. saturday, even sunday possibly feeling around 101 degrees, maybe even a little bit hotter with the humidity. so we'll be watching this as we go into the weekend. more extreme heat in the forecast. we don't have much rain relieve either so we'll be in a dry stretch as the temperatures start to heat up again. we're dry right now. any storms are down to the south around richmond. we don't expect the storms today or tomorrow. big area of high pressure will keep us nice and dry and it's also responsible for the wind direction which is also keeping

andrea cruz has more. >> reporter: hundreds of barks and my yeows great visitors snan as you walk into the animal control facility. >> we have animal control officers who bring them in. >> reporter: it adds up to 26,000 dogs and cats coming through these doors every year. and the doors are always open. >> whenever someone comes to us with an animal they can no longer keep for any reason, we're not going to turn them away. we'll take that animal in and try to help it as best we can. >> reporter: however, the facility can only hold under 100 dogs and around 150 cats per day. those not adopted are put down to make room for new arrivals. >> we want to make sure animals have the opportunity in every situation to have a live outcome. that's not always possible, but it is our goal. >> reporter: the facility is working towards becoming a no-kill shelter through programs
