♪ ♪ >> we like to linger here. it's time for everyone has a story. today the inspirational journey of one man that came out on top after struggling with alcoholism after a debilitating injury. >> she wrote about her brother and wanted to share the strength. >> dear cathy lee and hoda. i am writing about my brother pete. he has changes over the past year and a half. he is 31 and struggled with alcohol for many years. in early 2015, he decided to make a change. he was on the road to recovery and received a job offer from a major sport's network. things were turning around. the next day pete was doing

communi community service and was bite. he lost the tips of his fingers. the dog was put to sleep and it was awful. i flew to la to get him federal care and he moved to bosie in june. we watched kathie lee and hoda. that year he started to discover his talent. pete and i both have dogs and know how important that connection is. we launched our business pet portraits by pete in june of 2015. his story is special and unique. he was able to take a tragic event and instead of going to drinking he obtained a talent.

i hope that this story can reach those in the same place. we learned that from the darkest of times, it can help those in. >> what a sweet brother and sister story. i look for different kinds of stories when coming in. i send them over to david freeman that puts a melody to it. now, did you know that this crazy sister of yours did this? >> i did not. we had kind of goal. we want to get on the "today" show eventually. we said that he wanted to be on the show and then a couple of months go by and we get a phone call. >> when you were going through the difficult time and when people watching now have fallen back and that's what happens. what was it that you think kept you propelling forward when you could have gotten back into drinking? >> for me it was the help of other alcoholics. like my parents could tell me

stuff and my sister and best friend, and nothing would stick. when another alcoholic that was done the road and had the accident and the problem, they were able to get in to my head somehow. >> yeah, that's why the meetings are so important. >> great sister. >> she is the best. >> what does he mean to you? >> oh, he just means so much to me. it's the struggle and so many families deal with in america and all over the world. >> addiction. >> yeah, you know when you are in a dark place and being able to give support to someone and knowing that he is a strong person, and i never lost hope with that. i knew that he was going to come back to us. >> you were going to be there no matter what. >> a one bedroom apartment is love. >> the day that i got bit was day 87 of being sober.
