"i don't remember." he's going like "i don't remember!" we begin tonight with breaking news. the philadelphia fire department confirms a firefighter died while on the job tonight. firefighter's name is gabriel lee. he was found unresponsive at

ladder company 12 in north philadelphia while working his night shift. he was not killed in a fire, he was taken to temple university hospital where he was pronounced dead. we have a crew heading to the hospital right now, we'll have more in a few minutes. tonight thousands of people are without power, across our area. this oppressive heat wave sparked strong storms and downed trees and power lines from south jersey to the suburbs. there won't be relief any time soon. >> they were pop-up storms that moved quickly through the area. just about everybody in the region felt something or saw something. because it was quite a light show with these storms that popped. even reports of hail in parts of new jersey. so quite interesting indeed, all is quiet for now. the storms have pushed to the southeast, right off the coast and right off of southern delaware also. high pressure building in, just a few clouds around this evening

and a light wind, we're looking for mid-70s for an overnight low, boy, dangerous heat. that becomes our weather story once again for tomorrow. current temperatures on the sticky side here in philadelphia. 80 degrees, it's still 82 in allentown, as those rain cells moved through, pockets of rain brought in dryer air. it's not feeling great out there, still quite humid, tomorrow we'll have a little bit less humidity, but then we really crank up the heat. i'll be back with more in a bit. power crews are working to restore power to a lot of customers tonight. ac electric says more than 2500 people are in the dark. the majority of whom are in camden county. peco telling us about 1300 customers are still waiting for power to be restored. firefighters came to the rescue of a woman who got draped after heavy winds toppled this

tree on to her car. it happened just before 6:00 in magnolia, camden county. you can hear neighbors clapping and cheering when crews freed the woman from her car on lincoln avenue. she was awake and alert when firefighters rescued her, she's expected to be okay. now to the breaking news in delaware county, that's where firefighters responded to a beer distributor fire in upper darby. this is happening at upper darby beverage on marshall road. the fire is out, but firefighters are on the scene putting out hotspots. no one was hurt, no word on what sparked the fire. we're less than 48 hours away from the start of the democratic national convention. it starts here at the wells

fargo center monday. a battle seems to be brewing between clinton clinton and sanders on how impartial the democratic primary really was. wikile wikileaks released documents that show democratic party officials were actively trying to hurt sanders campaign and actively helping clintons. he said this could make it harder to promote unity at the dnc. in one of the e-mails a top dnc official seems to want to use sanders religious beliefs against him. brad marshall wrote the democratic party should get someone to ask if sanders believed in god. saying he had skated on saying he was of jewish heritage. marshall apologized on facebook, saying i deeply regret that my sensitive, emotional e-mails would cause

embarrassment to the dnc. donald trump reacted on the controversy on twitter today saying, leaked e-mails of dnc show plans to destroy bernie sanders, mocked his heritage and much more. really vicious, rigged. and, of course, bernie sanders is set to speak at the dnc on monday. tonight his supporters reacted to the news of the leak of those 20,000 e-mails. >> to be honest, i wasn't surprised, this had election has been rigged against bernie sanders. the dnc have not been supporting him. >> sanders supporters plan to hold protests in philadelphia over the next several days. the official 2016 democratic ticket debuted today in miami, florida. hillary clinton introduced virginia senator tim kaine as

we're continuing to follow that breaking news of a firefighter who died on the job tonight. andrea klein thomas joins us live at temple university hospital in north philadelphia. what have you learned? >> denise, very somber night here at temple university hospital. take a look behind me. philadelphia police and the highway patrol have gathered to escort the body of gabriel lee to the medical examiner's office. the street is blocked off. he was working a night shift when he was rushed to temple hospital. the firefighter works at ladder company 12 on west cambria street. right now they're just saying the manner of death is under investigation. we're going to stay here and continue to gather details about this and pass it along as it becomes available. andrea klein thomas, nbc10 news.

another fight is brewing ahead of the dnc over super delegates. efforts by bernie sanders supporters to eliminate or reduce the influence of super delegates failed at a meeting of the dnc rules committee. sanders supporters open the doors but they were kept out of the meeting at the gathering, an amendment to get rid of party insiders who can vote for the candidate of their choice at the convention was defeated. it did earn enough support to force a floor vote at the convention. philadelphia international airport is greeting arriving delegates with some philly flair. what better way to say hello than with a stack of free soft pretzels and tasty cakes. at dillworth park tonight, dozens pulled up their lawn chairs for a screening of "all

the president's men." the presidential footwear exhibit is now on display in old city. the johnston and murphy shoe company has hand crafted a custom pair of shoes for every american president since 1850. also on display, the famous inaugural ball gowns worn by america's first ladies over the years. looks like a little kitty cat has found a forever home. hundreds of people answers our call to help clear the shelters today. nbc10 teamed up with dozens of shelters to help find families for animals in need. adoption signs popped up on cages here at the gloucester county animal shelter in clayton. lots of animals were packed and ready for their new homes. kittens and puppies are always a big hit. lots of older animals also found homes today.
