a white house race. >> good morning. i'm tracy davidson. >> and i'm vai sikahema. theme for day two of the democratic national convention today is a lifetime for fighting for children and families. the convention will gavel to order at 4:00 this afternoon. and the evening features the roll call of the states, the process of nominating hillary clinton for president. speakers tonight include former president bill clinton and mothers of the movement, including the mothers of shooting victims, trayvon martin, eric garner, and michael brown. and a new nbc news survey monkey weekly election tracking poll shows republican nominee donald trump did not get a bump from his convention in cleveland. hillary clinton still leads trump bya single point, 46% to 45%. these numbers are unchanged from this time last week. but bernie sanders continues to be the talk of the town. >> the crowd chanted, bernie, bernie as he spoke to the delegation breakfast. he spoke about some of the things he talked about in his prime-time address last night. he criticized trump, saying trump does not believe in science. supporters gave him a rousing welcome when he took the stage just before 11:00 last night. the democratic runner-up urged them to put aside their disappointment and vote for hillary clinton in the fall. >> if you don't believe that this election is important, if you think you can sit it out, take a moment to think about the supreme court justices would nominate. hillary clinton will nominate justices to the supreme court who are prepared to overturn citizens united. hillary clinton will make an outstanding president and i am proud to stand with her tonight. >> sanders supporters we spoke

with were split over whether they would be voting for hillary clinton in the fall. meantime, philadelphia police issued more than 50 citations yesterday for disorderly conduct, as protests took place across the city. >> more demonstrations are planned for today. nbc 10's tim furlong is live for us in center city with more on what protesters have planned for today. tim? >> reporter: yeah, vai. and a lot of people that have heard bernie sanders say vote for clinton, they supported him, but they're not going to do what he's saying, including a lot of people who will be at this rally about noon. you can see the stage set up here for this. this is going to be a black men for bernie and the group revolts against plutocracy. they're going to have their event here. they're disappointed bernie sanders isn't going to be the democratic nominee for president. they believe he did a good thing by inspiring people over the last year, but they're a little disappointed he has now asked them to support clinton. and these two group leaders say that's not to going to happen. they say they're going to actively work against clinton in

november. they say they will register voters and urge them to vote for third party candidate jill stein. one leader of bernie or bust tells me he believes clinton is worse than trump. but one man says as a guy who was for the democrat, bernie sanders, he will now vote specifically against democrats. >> at the end of the day, people have to do what's best for the people that they love and that they serve. and i serve people that are not eating. they're starving. and unfortunately, the democratic party has been in power eight years and it hasn't got better. >> and come back live here to the municipal services building, toms payne plaza here, you can see it's pretty empty, but at noon, it will get crowded. it'll get a little rowdy here. should be peaceful like yesterday's protests, they're not expecting a lot of problems, but they want to make the point, they say they are not happy that bernie sanders has told them to support hillary clinton and they say they're just not going to do it. we're live in center city, tim furlong, nbc 10 news. >> all right, tim, thank you. meanwhile, democrats are

applauding first lady michelle obama for her speech at the dnc last night. >> her prime-time address focused on supporting hillary clinton for president. >> this november when we go to the polls, that is what we're deciding. not democrat or republican, not left or right. no, in this election and every election is about who will have the power to shape our children for the next four or eight years of their lives. >> mrs. obama's speech moved some delegates to tears. and just moments after his wife walked off the stage, president obama sent out a tweet which read, incredible speech by an incredible woman. couldn't be more proud. and our country has been blessed to have her as first lady of the united states. i love you, michelle. >> and this morning, local democrats are reacting to yesterday's tumultuous events. >> do you consider day one of the convention a success, despite some delegate discontent? monique braxton is head at a breakfast for the delegation.

what are the delegates saying about yesterday? >> reporter: hi, tracie. the delegation breakfast has just wrapped up outside the doubletree hotel. a few folks are still mingling. broad street, no doubt, is bustling. much of today's focus was on labor's role in winning elections and party unity. now, let's go inside and look at that video from the pennsylvania delegation breakfast earlier this morning. you can notice a much smaller crowd than the 400 plus who packed the event yesterday. the theme this morning from elected officials and other delegates was reaching across the aisle. supporters of bernie sanders joining with supporters of hillary clinton. this in anticipation of roll call later today. >> the floor vote won't happen until this afternoon. and i think that's going to go a long way to the sanders delegates feeling that our voice has actually been heard. because to be a delegate and not get to vote at this convention, that's not democracy. >> i think at some point, they will probably stop the roll call. i don't know that they will do all 50 states.

the difference, really, in the air, as we give you a live look at philadelphia's boathouse row. rather calm and quiet right now. crystal clooi is here with the forecast. and that forecast really does look a little better today than yesterday. two reasons. first off, the humidity a little lower, which means although it will still be hot out there, not going to be quite as sticky. on top of that, not tracking the potential for thunderstorms. what we're looking at here is a live picture outside from north wildwood, new jersey, along the boardwalks and people already out and about. going to be a lot of relief if you're out at the shore later today, because while temperatures will be hot, not quite as hot if you are along any beachside locations. so great shot with some blue skies mixing in with a few clouds out there. that's about it for us today. a mix of clouds and sun is what we are expecting, as we move forward. so on top of the fact that we've got these nice conditions out there, we will be looking at, through today, leaving your umbrella at home. don't have to worry about the showers picking up today. and actually, you'll be able to leave that umbrella at home for

he would reform the veteran's administration and improve the care vets receive. and he attacked hillary clinton's approach to the issue. >> she recently said of the v.a. scandal that it's not as widespread as it's been purported to be. it's like she's trying to sweep it under the rug. which, by the way, politicians have done for years and years and years. >> later today, trump will hold a fund-raiser in tampa. >> let's get a check of some of the other news of the day. nbc 10's katy zachary is live in our studios in bala cynwyd. the daughter of a philadelphia police officer is the victim of a carjacking from this morning. right now police are still looking for two teenage suspects who rode up to her on bikes armed with guns. police spotted the stolen car and began to chase it, but then stopped, because they say it was driving too erratically. the stolen car then hit eight parked cars on springfield avenue in west philadelphia.

the two teenagers who were inside ran away. police say they did find two guns in the car. the carjacking victim was not hurt and the search continues for the carjackers. police say one may have head injuries from the crash. an attempted robber got a big surprise when his victim turned out to be carrying a gun. investigators in philadelphia's wynnfield neighborhood say the man shot the person who was trying to rob him. it happened outside the penn wynnhouse parent building on bryn mawr avenue. the suspect is in critical condition with five to seven gunshot wounds. police say the robber target had a permit to carry. france's president suggested this morning that isis is behind a church attack that left a priest dead. police say two attackers took hostages during morning mass in normandy. the attacker slit a priest's throat before police shot and killed them. another person in the church suffered serious injuries. police also rescued three hostages. this incident comes as france

remains on high alert after a truck attack in nice killed 84 people and before that, the country endured a string of deadly attacks claimed by isis. police in japan are questioning a man in that country's largest mass murder in decades. the 26-year-old is suspected of using knives to kill at least 19 mentally disabled people. now, he's a former employee at a facility for disabled people, where the attack happened. he reportedly called for severely disabled people to be euthanized. the suspect turned himself in about two hours after the attack. well, if you were around last night, you could not ignore the storms moving in. and this morning, the floodwaters are gone, but there is still a lot of clean up to be done in some areas. those heavy downpours drenched our region. that led to flash flooding. drivers quickly became frustrated when they found their way home was blocked.

a septa bus was underwater in ben salem. fortunately, everyone did get out safely. trees also did come down. and a neighbor in philadelphia's overbrook section describes one falling. >> i heard some crinkling out here, really loud. and then i heard a boom, next thing i knew, this tree was on this tree. >> on martin luther king drive, ponding slowed drivers going through fairmont park and through the schuylkill expressway. >> yes, it was a hailstorm in july. viewers captured hail coming down fast, setting off car alarms in montgomery county. and today we'll get a little relief. not in the form of your temperatures, but in the form of humidity being a tad bit lower. so plenty of sunshine to start out your late morning here. as we head into the afternoon, 86 where we sit in philadelphia, currently. that temperature, of course,

feeling just a little hotter than it truly is, as we still do have a bit of humidity to deal with later today. lehigh valley at 83 degrees. the suburbs, as well. delaware, you're at 87 and jersey shore at 87 degrees. though, again, plenty of sun out there. this will be a nice day to be heading out to the shore, as we move into the afternoon, a little relief from some of the higher temperatures. here's your neighborhood temperatures here. vorhees at 86 degrees. piney hollow, 85, as well as clayton. luberton, 85, as well. hamilton, 86. and princeton at 84 degrees. not a bad start compared to yesterday. remember yesterday during the 11:00 a.m. newscast? we were already looking at some temperatures feeling like they were near triple digits? don't have that goinging on today. on your radar and satellite outlook, right now sunshine throughout the day. you see maybe some scattered clouds rolling across our region, but for the most part, this is going to be a nice, nice day compared to yesterday. the heat, though, still a

factor. the seven-day forecast going along the bottom of your screen, for your neighborhood, a lot of 90s still on the map. we are getting a relief from the heat and the humidity over the next couple of days. still, temperatures above the 90s means we're looking at the longest heat wave so far this year. check it out. now, last thursday we started our heat wave. we have thursday, friday, saturday, sunday, and yesterday made five days. but we've still got tuesday, today at 95 degrees, wednesday at 93, and thursday at 94. that average line all the way down to 87, where we finally drop near by this coming the friday. this is a long heat wave we're looking at and temperatures still can remain dangerous if you don't remain properly hydrated. as we move along her, to take a look, thursday. this will be your next chance for showers. we'll stay on the dry side for the next several days. thursday, we'll start to pull in chances of showers again, thursday afternoon, spotty into the evening, breaking apart. and friday, possibly pulling in some stronger thunderstorm development as early as friday morning. so, again, this is thursday into

friday, which will lead into your weekend, where we could see some wet weather, as well. going back to today, though, temperatures mostly in those mid-90s. 96 for summerton, along philadelphia, as well as 94 in the suburbs for lansdale. 93, cookstown for lehigh valley. these temperatures across the valley mixing clouds and sun. we look at new jersey also in the mid-90s, and a little relief along the shore. smyrna look at 91 degrees. and for that ten-day on ten, looking at those 90s. as we mentioned, continuing through thursday with the drier conditions, thursday into friday, though, pulling in chances of rain that lasts through saturday. and i do believe sunday, as well. >> a little relief down the shore, doesn't that sound good? thanks, crystal. going green, this election season, all the talk is about donald trump and hillary clinton. >> but there were other candidates in the presidential race. next we take a closer look at the green party push.

>> reporter: hey, vai, you guessed it. talk about shattering the glass ceiling with the first-ever female nominee for president. we're inside the women's caucus where this room has been energized. and among the chants this morning were "i'm with her," "i believe that we will win," "and the ladies are in charge." those were the chants that started off the women's caucus about an hour ago. these are attorneys, iron workers, doctors, also, stay-at-home moms and not all delegates here, some from as far away as mississippi and new york. the goal is to get the message from inside the convention center to everyday undecided women to vote for hillary. a planned parenthood group known as the wicked jezebel feminists wore 3-d goggles. they developed that name and a film that shows what it's like to enter a health care facility and walk by screaming anti-abortion activists. they're calling for equal pay

for equal work, child care, as well as protection for their families. mississippi delegate kelly jacobs is not only a delegate and dress designer, she shared how she will recruit voters who haven't made up their minds. >> women listen to hillary clinton. they see her intelligence, her thoughtfulness on all the different issues, and it's very difficult to talk about why, because women are complex and we have economic issues, we have reproductive issues. and we have family issues. and she will be wonderful as our president. >> reporter: now, nancy pelosi just addressed the crowd a few minutes ago. she said a woman being elected as president is not just about her work alone, but about all women who, quote, have come together as a village and to work together as a team. now, another place we'll head to next is the lbgt community. that runs from 12:00 to 2:00. all of those meetings and caucuses taking place here at the pennsylvania convention center today. but among the questions we will talk about with them is equal --

not having bias, rather, in the workplace for the lbgt community. and we'll have all that for you later in the day, as well, as well as more from here from the women's caucus. we're live at the convention center, i'm cydney long. back to you. >> cydney, thank. a about half an hour, a protest is scheduled sto start in center city. >> some protesters of bernie sanders say they are still not convinced that they should now support hillary clinton. nbc 10's tim furlong is live outside the municipal services building near city hall, where the protests will start in less than 30 minutes. tim, give us a feel for this group. >> reporter: yeah, they're not happy. they're disappointed in senator sanders for coming out and telling them to vote for hillary clinton. they say they're just not going to do it. the stage is set up here. there's a small crowd building over here, a very small crowd at this point, about a half hour, a couple of groups are holding that event. obviously disappointed in how this has all gone down. take a look, the leaders of these groups tell me that

hillary clinton and the dnc are not interested in party unity. they say they're going to actively work against clinton in november. they say they're going to register voters and urge them to vote for third party candidate jill stein. they say hillary clinton is too corporate and too much part of the political machine they are so opposed to. they say even though bernie sanders has told them to vote for hillary clinton, they won't, and they don't need activists like sarah silverman tell them how to think or what to do. >> sarah silverman said last night, "you're being ridiculous." >> yeah, she's being a sheep dog. right? she wants to heard bernie supporters into the neo liberal corporate fold for the neo liberal slaughter. >> reporter: and you can see here as we come back live, the event scheduled to kick off at noon. we'll be here to cover it all. i'll post pictures and videos on social media. if you can, give me a follow and i'll show you what's going on. at this point, there's only about 10 or 15 people here. but a lot of these protesters look like they're not going to

make a difference in his south philly community. his group, unity, in the community is working to raise awareness about how to prevent gun violence. >> when people don't have hope and don't have faith in the system, they give up. and a lot of people out there that are robbing. there's a lot of violence. violence is up. >> reporter: and when violence is up, we are all down. that's one of the messages mothers in charge sent to rally goers, at a vocal majority rally in logan square. they want stricter gun laws. >> stopping gun violence takes courage. >> reporter: former congress congresswoman gabby giffords was with them on their call to keep guns out of the hands of people with bad intentions. bringing truth and a major talking point in ward's dnc speech tonight. >> people need to understand, no one is exempt from gun violence. >> he says the solution has to start with people like him at the grassroots level. but change, he says, won't happen without the support of

per hour. and it's about the winds. the winds have shifted pulling in from the west-northwest. when that happens, you pull in some drier air, as opposed to more moist air, which allows for us to see higher humidity. again, today, it's down. temperatures, though, will still be on the higher side. forecasting a high, 95 in philadelphia. suburbs may make their way up to the upper 90s, as well. 96 in the lehigh valley and 94 in new jersey, as well as delaware. still going to stay hot and somewhat humid, but not the oppressive heat we saw yesterday. remember, yesterday we got a feel-like temperature of 108 degrees in philadelphia. we won't be anywhere near that. today looking at feels-like closer to 97. meaning it will almost feel 10 degrees in difference from yesterday, although officially, high temperatures should still be pretty close. so still hot out there, still can be on the dangerous side if you're not properly acting outside in the peak afternoon hours. we'll talk more about this heat wave, when it finally drops off into the 80s, and the potential

for weekend storms, all coming up. now let's check some of the other news of the day. >> nbc 10's katy zachary is in baala kinwood live in our nbc 10 studios. some homeowners in southern california returned to find their homes reduced to level from a wildfire. the so-called sand fire has burned 10,000 acres every day since it started friday in the hills of los angeles. firefighters announced last night that almost all of the 20,000 or so evacuated residents would be allowed to return home, but many did not have homes to return to. new jersey governor chris christie says a new transportation plan from the democrats is, quote, dead on arrival. the republican governor shot down the $2 billion proposal that would have raised the gas tax by 23 cents a gallon. the proposal, which was unveiled on friday, would have also phased out the estate tax over the next 3 1/2 years. governor christie says the plan does not cut taxes enough.

today in atlantic city, well, you can add your two cents into plans to save that shore town. a public forum is being held at 6:00 today at city hall to talk about the financial rescue plan. the city is more than half a billion dollars in debt. governor christie signed two measures into law in may, gaving ac time to develop a five-year plan to balance their budget. if the state doesn't like the city's plan, it can take over. tracie and vai, we'll send it back to you at the wells fargo center. >> katy, thanks. we're listening to timmy kelly, who we both are friends with. he's singing the national anthem and we're listening to him rehearse. >> the blind young man is a temple student and is doing a great job. philadelphia's bustling with activity all week long because of the democratic national convention here in philadelphia. >> but a group of community leaders wants you to venture to another part of town this week. find out what they have planned for not just those here at the dnc. that's next.

you. and for a lot of us, it looks hot. here are our temperatures. we're at 86 degrees in philadelphia. lehigh valley at 83. and 82 in some of the suburbs. a little warmer here, 88 for south jersey. 86, jersey shore, but across the map, 80 still holding tight at this point. we will move into those 90s, you can't escape them. that heat wave continuing. in fact, this is the longest heat wave we've seen this year. so we are looking at, already, starting last thursday, 90-degree temperatures that move through this past week. monday, jed we hit 90s. today looking to do the same. dropping down into parts of philadelphia, society hill, 89 degrees. 86 out at the airport, looking at a temperature of 87. fox chase, wonderfulton, and summerton at 88 degrees, moving right into those 90s as we speak. so not escaping those quite yet. your current wind speed, though, this is the good news. we're looking actually at those winds today coming in mostly from the northwest. the result is that winds are not

terribly strong, about 5 to 10 miles per hour across the board here, close to 10 miles per hour at atlantic city. and because they're moving in from the northwest, pulling a bit of drier air, instead some of the moisture that helps produce those humid, sticky afternoons. still going to see a bit on the humid city, but not nearly as bad as yesterday. we had feels-like temperatures close to 110 degrees. that is not going to be the situation today. instead, feels-like temperatures, only a couple of degrees higher than the actual air temperature. on your radar and satellite map, got a few scattered clouds out there. we just saw that live look in center city, but mostly the clouds hit farther to our west. we may see some scattered clouds through the rest of today, but i don't expect showers in today's forecast, aside from possibly a spot cell moving a little south of us. so, again, mostly just dry conditions for us today. and actually, the next several days, not expecting chances of rain. instead, we talk more 90s. philadelphia, we stay right around those mid-90s through
