congresswoman maxine waters at the podium right now. donald trump appears to be urging russia to hack u.s. government e-mails. he seemed to issue the challenge it in florida today. to find the 30,000 e-mails missing from hillary clinton's private e-mail server. the clinton campaign says trump is actively encouraging espionage. >> russia, if you're listening, i hope you're able to find the 30,000 e-mails that are missing. by the way, they hacked, they probably have her 33,000 e-mails. i hope they do. they probably have her 33,000 e-mails that she lost, and deleted. because you'd see some beauties there. >> clinton's campaign responded saying, quote, this has to be the first time that a major presidential candidate has actively encouraged a a foreign power to conduct espionage against his political opponent.

the white house basically taking over the dnc tonight. president barack obama will be the final speaker of the evening. he'll be preceded by vice president joe biden, and tim kaine will address the delegates as well, as will former congresswoman gabrielle giffords and her husband. charles ramsey also set to speak here. we begin with the call for unity here at the democratic national convention. nbc 10's deanna durante is on that story with a look at what is standing in the way of bringing this party together. what are the two sides saying this afternoon, deanna? >> reporter: you have some saying the party is united and some saying they've not only walked off the convention floor, but they don't plan on returning. >> i can't. i just can't. >> reporter: west virginia delegate katherine said she would rather join protesters in south philly than return to the convention. despite call from bernie sanders to rally around hillary clinton,

the party is not unified. >> we are not going back to the convention. we cannot witness the fall of democracy any longer. >> reporter: another west virginia delegate said she's frustrated, her party thinks her vote doesn't matter. >> no party unity. the polls have shown this for the past four months. that we are not voting for hillary. we will not vote for hillary. >> reporter: sanders supporters say now is the time to unite because there is no alternative for them. >> if you trust bernie, and people say they trust him, they still trust him, then they should trust him now when he says for the benefit of the movement people should be supporting hillary clinton. >> reporter: but for some not even a trump presidency is enough for them to listen to members. >> i think the strength in diversity. there's still plenty of time between now and november for folks to evaluate candidates and

hopefully have a good strong consensus. >> reporter: the final buses are being boarded right here in king of prussia, taking the delegates down to south philadelphia. some have written up signs and billboards or poster boards to show on the convention floor to, again, support the candidate that wasn't nominated. reporting live in king of prussia, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. >> ahead of tonight's speech here at the dnc, president obama sat down for an exclusive interview with savannah guthrie on the "today" show, and he shared some advice for fellow democrats on this november election. >> you stay worried until all those votes are cast and counted, because one of the dangers in an election like this is that people don't take the challenge seriously. they stay home. and we end up getting the

will address the democratic national convention later tonight. outside the wells fargo center, the heat wave just rolls on. another 90-degree day out there. let's check in with sheena parveen. sheena, when will this end? >> you know, jim, it's not goin to end until we have the rain to help cool us off. and we will. tomorrow we have showers in the forecast, even friday and into the weekend. if you look at the seven-day at the bottom of your screen, you'll be able to see when we finally break out of the 90s. 92 in philadelphia. mount holly 89. dover coming in at 88 degrees. now look at what it actually feels like in dover when you factor in the humidity. much higher humidity, feeling like 100 degrees in dover. feels like 93 in philadelphia. feels like 96 in wilmington. feels like 96 in vineland. yes, the humidity out there today, still making it feel a lot hotter, especially the farther south you go. now we're still in the heat wave. we've been in it since last friday. we expect to be in it until

tomorrow. expecting the 90s again tomorrow. that would make it a seven-day heat wave. the heat is continuing. as we go into tomorrow, some showers and storms will help to cool us off later in the day. we have a first alert for tomorrow. for delaware, new jersey, philadelphia, the pennsylvania suburbs. now, this is going to go from tomorrow night until friday night. it's because we have strong thunderstorms in the forecast. and also the threat of flash flooding. because we do expect very heavy rain. locally we had some heavy showers and storms in parts of south jersey closer to the shore. as we go into tomorrow night, through friday night, we have a flash flood watch for much of the area. again, this is because of the possibility of flooding with heavy rains. we'll talk more about this and i'll show you the timing of it coming up. bernie sanders spent much of the morning thanking delegates. he spoke to representatives from vermont, new hampshire, maine and rhode island and told the crowd that together they struck a nerve with voters, and that's what democracy is about. he says he's trying to shift his

movement to encourage people to run for office, and fight for the issues he championed during his campaign. right now, nbc 10's lauren mayk is joining us from the floor. the pennsylvania supporter of bernie sanders. >> reporter: jim, this convention, this campaign has been using all kinds of people to try to get the message across to vote for hillary clinton. trying to convince bernie sanders supporters to come on board. we saw alicia keys, sarah silverman, celebrities up on stage. but the mayor of brad dock, pennsylvania, he ran for senate. he is a bernie supporter and now he's trying to convince other supporters to get on board with hillary clinton. >> you just can't emphasize enough how important it is that as a democrat, as a progressive, as a thoughtful parent, that you would want to support a candidate like secretary clinton. >> as you're trying to convince other fellow sanders supporters, how are they responding to you?

the case against six baltimore police officers accused of in the death of fredly gray is over. today the charges against the three remaining officers were dropped. legal analysts believe it's a move acknowledging the unlikelihood that prosecutors could win a conviction as the other three officers involved have been acquitted. grave's neck was broken as he was transported in a police van

in 2015. prosecutors say gray was illegally arrested and that officers did not buckle him into a seat belt or call a medic. the man who tried to assassinate president reagan will be leaving a mental hospital for good. a judge today ruled that john hinckley jr. is no longer a threat to society. hinckley who is now 61, was found not guilty in the case by reason of insanity. he will reportedly be living with his parents at their home in williamsburg, virginia. jim rosenfield once again coming to you live from south philadelphia. this is a look inside the wells fargo center right now. a powerhouse lineup scheduled to take the stage here tonight. the president, the vice president and the new vp nominee, tim kaine. you're watching members of the congressional asian pacific caucus right now at the podium. a lot of work goes into putting

on a convention. temple university has 18 students interning at the dnc. another 6 students worked at the republican convention in cleveland. nbc 10's matt shows us how some of them are getting real world experience. >> reporter: no summer break. temple students who have found themselves at the center of the political universe for these four days. >> it's pretty crazy. it's a lot of things going on. >> reporter: their job this week is to check credentials before delegates head into the arena. a simple job perhaps, but one that brings experience. >> it's definitely super exciting. people wear the crazy buttons and hats. >> reporter: these students are part of the washington center academic seminar. they've been through speeches, lectures and activities all leading up to this. other students are staying on campus where some of the dnc staff are staying.

thomas said his interest changed from awe to inspiration, watching the process unfold in front of him. >> for me it's a deep appreciation to realize that these people who are speaking at these events are real human beings like myself who at the end of the day just want to make the country better than it can be. >> reporter: and perhaps one day, maybe soon, they, too, can work their way up to this stage. >> whether it's voter registration, or actually getting out to vote on that day, and cheering for whoever they support, whether it's bernie, hillary or on the other side. it's incredibly important for anyone, whether students all the way up to any age to be involved in the political process. >> reporter: there are student interns here working from around the country in a variety of jobs. some are working with delegates, some for the campaign and some even working with media outlets. all of them getting firsthand experience, an experience of a lifetime. at independence hall, nbc 10

we have outlined in red. that's because we have a first alert out for heavy rain and thunderstorms. i'll show you the timing in a second. we're still hot outside, 92 in philadelphia. wilmington coming in at 93 degrees. south jersey neighborhoods, near 90 degrees. low 90s to mid-90s, though, as you get into parts of burlington county. we're looking at 90 degrees washington township right now. if you're in pittman, 90 degrees. medford 95. mount laurel 93. lumberton and pemberton coming in at the low 90s. hamilton township 89. tomorrow night we have a flash flood watch. this is for our pennsylvania suburbs, the philadelphia area, new jersey and all of delaware. so this flash flood watch basically means from thursday night to friday night, we do expect heavy rain and thunderstorms. kind of scattered in nature. possible flash flooding will be an issue because we expect heavy rain. also, we could see some damaging winds through part of the area.

earlier today, though, along the shore, near sea isle city, heavy thunderstorms combined with high tide, created quite a bit of localized flooding. but right now we're pretty much in the clear. what we're watching for tomorrow is all this moisture back off to our west. scattered showers right around the middle of the country, especially down to the gulf coast states. tomorrow that will organize a little better and start to move through. our severe storm threat for tomorrow is mostly going to lie south of philadelphia, for parts of delaware, and new jersey. mostly south jersey. that's where we expect some of the most damaging storms potential, highest potential for that. that includes damaging winds, near 60 miles an hour, heavy rain leading to flash flooding, possible hail and lightning. that's tomorrow's forecast. here's a look at future weather. tonight we stay dry. and now we're looking at tomorrow. we'll see an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity, possibly around lunchtime. now we're looking at 12:30. scattered showers and storms developing. that's going to continue through the afternoon and even into late tomorrow night, 11:00 p.m.

california is in a state of emergency tonight, thanks to two major wildfires still burning out of control. the declaration frees up state resources to fight them. the fire near big sur has burned 20 homes, and the blaze in los angeles county has killed one person and destroyed 18 homes there. eight men are safe at home tonight after being rescued from the fire lines. the men went hiking five days ago and got lost with little food and water. when the fire flared up over the weekend, the men said they were

coming to you live once again in south philadelphia. a look inside the wells fargo center right now. day three of the democratic national convention is under way. tonight, president obama makes his case for electing hillary clinton to succeed him. also vice president biden and new vp nominee tim kaine are also set to speak here tonight. all the while democrats still trying to put the party's recent drama behind them. and return to one group, turning its back on the democrats, the black men for bernie's movement said its mission will move on. cydney long spoke to the group's founder today as well as the dnc's black caucus. cydney, what is the message they're trying to get across here? >> reporter: jim, i can tell you they feel very dissatisfied and disenfranchised. they said they plan to use the momentum to engage new black voters across the country, tell them to hit the polls in november and vote anything but democratic.

former philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey speak tonight. from center city, i'm cydney long. jim, back to you. >> cydney, thank you. center for our decision 2016 coverage, the temperature in here is pretty good. but outside it is just awful. really steamy out there. the heat wave is continuing. let's check in with first alert meteorologist sheena parveen. >> jim, this is the longest heat wave we've had this year. tomorrow would make day seven of the heat wave that started last friday. temperatures right now are still in the 90s for part of the area. philadelphia coming in at 92 degrees. lehigh valley around 90. many of our new jersey neighborhoods are actually in the mid to low 90s. some spots in the upper 80s as well as delaware and along the shore. temperatures mostly the low 80s. philadelphia area neighborhood temperatures are sitting in about the mid to low 90s for parkside, 94 degrees. west mount airy 94. society hill 90. fox chase coming in at 95 degrees. it is humid enough to make some

areas in delaware feel around 100 degrees. now, the heat wave so far this month has been up to three now. this one that we're in currently lasting seven days, if we're in the 90s again tomorrow, which we do expect. so half of the month of july, about 15 days we are in the 90s. so it has been very hot this month. we do have a first alert out for tomorrow for delaware, new jersey, philadelphia and the pennsylvania suburbs. this is going to go from tomorrow night through friday night. now, the heat wave is eventually going to break. it will start with showers and storms moving in and the threat for some flash flooding across the area. coming up, we'll talk more about this, and the timing of the storms. but tomorrow you'll definitely want your umbrella. >> thanks for the advice, sheena. back inside the wells fargo center. day three of the convention. monique braxton said the clinton campaign hopes the democrats will heed the call. >> i have a particular sense of

pokemon go is taking players to historic grounds in tokyo, and city officials are not really happy about it. the stops are popping up at a memorial park in hir oh shim a. the city wants the game developer to delete the park from the game by august 6th. that's the anniversary of the 1945 bombing and an annual ceremony to remember the victims. the countdown to rio continues.

now they have to worry about snakes. >> reporter: police are planning to return to the area and look for any signs of that snake. they're asking neighbors if they see it first, to call 911. drew smith, nbc 10 news. from snakes to birds. we're talking about the eagles now. today head coach doug peterson said nigel bradham will participate in full team workouts tomorrow, and is, quote, humbled by an alleged incident in which bradham is accused of assaulting a man. the team has no plans to release the just signed linebacker until the police investigation is complete. now, as for on the field, peterson and new qb carson were at work looking for any advantage. one way the eagles are trying to do that is by mounting cameras on helmets during practice. players say the coaches want to see what they see. tonight all eyes will certainly be on another eagle right here on nbc 10. george spencer has that story.

we had about 1 to 2 inches of rain falling here. that actually came around the time of high tide. so that's why you see the water so high there, up to the doors of those cars. some people stranded as you see. the water looks like it's just up to their knees. and yeah, that's the rain we felt earlier today. not everyone saw the rain. mostly around the sea isle city section. and parts of the jersey shore. but just so happened to coincide with high tide and all that flooding happened. the rest of the area mostly sunny to partly cloudy. the seven-day at the bottom, you see two days highlighted, tomorrow and friday. that's because we have a first alert out for heavy rain. i'll show you that in a second. but temperatures are still in the low 90s. we're still in a heat wave around 90 degrees right now through pennsylvania suburbs. a closer look at your delaware neighborhood temperatures, 91 marshalton, 92 in greenville, odessa coming in at 94 degrees. if you're in dover, your temperature is 92.

but it feels more around 100 right now with the humidity. ellendale coming in at 91 degrees. 92 in lincoln. if you're closer to the beaches in delaware, big difference with the onshore beach. a big difference the wind direction makes if you're right on the water. we have a first alert for tomorrow for delaware, new jersey, philadelphia and the pennsylvania suburbs. almost the entire area with the exception of the lehigh valley. thursday night to friday night, this is because we'll see strong thunderstorms moving in. and also, the threat for flash flooding. so we do expect heavy rain. flash flood watches out for about the entire area, again, with the exception of the lehigh valley and poconos. this will go from thursday to friday night with the heavy rain. we could see localized flooding. we do expect the storms to be more scattered in nature. but we could certainly see some organized thunderstorms. so here's a look at future weather. tonight we stay dry. tomorrow we'll heat up again into the 90s, making it the

seventh day of this heat wave. through the afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms. some of which could be strong. especially if you are in delaware and south jersey. now we're looking at friday. this is midnight going into friday. heavy rain continues into friday morning. 7:30 friday morning, we could be dealing with heavy rain into the philadelphia area, around 10:00 a.m. or so. a little bit of a break later in the day friday and starting off your weekend. then that rain chance starts to come back throughout the day on saturday. so both saturday and sunday we're going to hold on to those rain chances. neighborhood temperatures for tomorrow, expect scattered showers and storms. still in the 90s. if you're in somerton, 92. allentown 89. with scattered showers and storms. the feeling hotter, especially the fargts south you go. if you're in harrington, 89 degrees, feeling more like 101. long fort coming in around 84 degrees with the scattered showers and storms. we go into your friday, finally breaking out of the heat wave on

friday. that's the day we expect to be in the 80s, especially starting with morning rain. showers and storms for friday, scattered showers and storms saturday, sunday, the rain chances hang on. temperatures will not be in the 90s as we go through the weekend. we expect them to stay in the 80s. the heat wave will be coming to an end. you will need your umbrella. glenn will have a closer look at your neighborhood weather coming up. transit officers went out of their way to help fix a little boy's broken scooter. nbc 10 spotted the officers breaking out their power tools to help get little bernie sanders supporter cyrus back on his wheels. the police chief saw the boy struggling with the scooter, so he called on his officers to help out. >> yeah, the officer sid somebody will come help me. >> he probably saw cyrus there wearing a bernie sanders mask on his head, a sanders t-shirt. he had been attending a sanders

>> what i think is scary is a president who doesn't know their stuff. >> good evening again. i'm jim rosenfield. it's a big night here at the wells fargo center. night three of the democratic national convention on a night where it's one political star after another. the story lines are focusing on comments donald trump made towards russia. it was about hillary clinton's missing e-mails. nbc 10's george spencer is joining us live from down near the store. george, you spoke to delegates about the comments from trump, right? >> reporter: yes, jim, clinton's camp, her supporters expected today to be focused really exclusively on her big name support. but instead much of the political world's attention was focused on her republican rival. donald trump's comments sparking disbelief among some political observers. and new outrage among many of the delegates on this floor.
