rain, lightning and hail. this was the same in south jersey. nbc 10 drivers had to maneuver around water. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the severe weather in your neighborhood. >> most of the threat now is because of the rain itself and the flood threat. as you can see, most of the heaviest rain is in delaware and south jersey. we have a bit up in lehigh valley and berks county. the problem with that stuff is it's not moving. down in dover, we've seen some in atlantic city we've seen some as well. the dover storm moved across delaware bay and cape may, right in there. so just a few minutes to cape may. and wildwood getting some of that lightning. and some of the heavy rain coming into the atlantic city area. we're seeing some right along the atlantic city expressway, as you head to the shore, galloway township getting some very heavy

rain. that's about to head into abseeken. we continue to have the problem along i-78 into berks county and headed to the allentown area in the next couple of hours. we do have the flood advisories across a good bit of the area. not flooding everywhere, but we have localized flooding. and the southern area, that is until 9:15. until 6:30 up in the philadelphia region, mainly delaware and chester counties. this is a radar estimate of rainfall. you can see the brighter colors, mostly in delaware and south jersey. that's where the heaviest rain has been so far. we'll see where the heaviest rain is going to be over the weekend in a few minutes. >> we'll check back with you. but now, it is the fourth and final night here at the dnc. michelle obama, bill clinton, joe biden, and president obama all vouching for hillary clinton this week. and tonight it is her turn. the theme is stronger together. nbc 10's george spencer is

joining us live from the wells fargo center. george, what can we expect from hillary clinton's speech tonight? >> clinton's speech is expected to focus around that theme that has apparently been working for the party this week. that theme democrats say of optimism and unity. no matter what your politics, it will be a moment in history on this stage tonight. on the convention stage this final afternoon, three young immigrants, all of them new u.s. citizens, all of them from our area, led the delegates in the pledge of allegiance. it was intentional symbolism around the democrats' theme of unity on this day after president obama's embrace of hillary clinton's candidacy. his speech last night setting the tone for clinton today. a female nominee breaking the

glass ceiling. >> you're going to make me cry because you're going to make me think about it. it is a huge, huge advancement, not just for women, but showing everybody these opportunities. >> reporter: many say clinton's acceptance of the nomination tonight will paint a powerful portrait of resilience, both individually and as a country. >> the theme stronger together means that we are stronger together. and that's such a different vision from that being offered by donald trump. >> reporter: clinton is expected to touch on one of her oldest messages tonight. quote, it takes a village. and her crowd of listeners are eager to hear how that vision would work into the future. do you think we will hear the personal hillary clinton, or do you think we'll hear policy? >> we will hear the personal hillary clinton. >> reporter: personal hillary? >> we've heard personal hillary clinton all week long. >> nothing is more special than being in your own hometown and cracking the glass ceiling. >> reporter: although unity will

obama signed into law bears her name for fair pay. >> if we can make this much progress here, in the united states, in my lifetime, i hope i see you women get an equal pay for equal work. >> reporter: these two joined the caucus. for them, hillary clinton's nomination reinvigorates the future possibilities of the women's movement. >> she genuinely cares about those in need. people who are disenfranchised, marginalized, struggling. >> reporter: they said the gains are being threatened by the republican party. >> it would uphold policies that would allow employers to pay lower wages, that change our workplaces and make them more restrictive. >> reporter: that's why they say the celebration -- >> i am so excited. words cannot even express it. >> reporter: -- comes with a condition. more work is necessary, not just in this presidential election, but up and down the ballot.

aundrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. >> a short time ago, former philadelphia mayor michael nutter addressed the dnc cloud. lauren mayk is joining us live from the convention floor. lauren, i understand you just spoke with the former mayor as soon as he walked off that stage. >> reporter: jim, this is a big deal for him, in part because he has been acting as a hillary clinton surrogate traveling around the country, helping her campaign. but also, because planning for this convention started back when he was mayor. and i asked him what it's like to have this now in his hometown. >> this is what i've always wanted. i went to my first convention in 1992. in new york city. was a bill clinton delegate at that time. that experience was incredible. and i wanted if ever possible for all philadelphians to have this same convention experience in the city.

>> reporter: when he talked about one particular moment, that moment last night where hillary clinton came out and barack obama sort of passed the baton, passed the torch to her, he said he has been thinking about that moment for months. potentially even years. he just didn't know that it would happen here in philadelphia. jim? >> history for all of us. lauren mayk, thanks. bernie sanders made the breakfast round this morning. the runner-up focused his attention on slamming donald trump. >> my fear about donald trump is that he is a demagogue who does not believe in the constitution of the united states, who is making the cornerstone of his campaign not economics, not health, but bigotry. >> speaking of trump, the republican presidential nominee says he was just being sarcastic about russia finding hillary clinton's deleted e-mails.

and trump wanted russia to hack into, or find her deleted e-mails. on the final day of the dnc, philadelphia police telling us they've handed out just 103 tickets this week to protesters, all but five from out of town. last night, seven people were arrested for entering a secret service designated secure zone. back here live inside the wells fargo center, it's expected to an historic night. but for now let's send it back to the studio with other news. jacqueline? >> jim, the president and vice president and first lady electrified the crowd this week, really setting the bar high for hillary clinton this evening. >> really, but that was by design. wednesday night i was talking with lester holt, that it was always designed to be that sort of the crescendo leading up to hillary clinton tonight. i'm sure she does feel a lot of pressure. i can't speak personally for her, i would feel a lot of pressure, but that was designed to hit it out of the ballpark and tee it up for her tonight.

that was katy perry warming up during rehearsal earlier today. perry wearing that hrc hat. she's going to perform just before 10:00 tonight. other celebrity singers include carole king who is actually coming up in just a few minutes. and also sheila e. once again, history will be made tonight as hillary clinton makes her pitch to become president of the united states. her daughter, chelsea clinton, will introduce her mother. chelsea's spokeswoman said she'll explain why she's so proud and excited to see her mother accept the nomination as a daughter, and a mom herself. and tomorrow, hillary clinton's rally at noon is going to be moved inside temple university because of the possibility of bad weather. so that's a change in plans. it was supposed to be at independence mall, but you know what, you don't want to be out there if storms are around. >> and we want them to stay

safe, of course. jim, thank you. >> yeah. state lawmakers in new jersey will try again tomorrow to end an impasse over a possible gas tax increase. a lack of a compromise means many road projects are still stopped and some business owners in hamilton town shup because they said they're cut off from their customers. ted greenberg reports from atlanta county. >> reporter: the food is ready, yet days country deli and subs in hamilton township, but customers have been hard to come by. >> our business has dropped 30% since this has happened. >> reporter: owner michelle said the problem is about two miles away from the deli on blackhorse pike, where the road is shut down for a construction project. one of many halted by a squabble in trenton, over how to replenish new jersey's transportation trust fund. >> it's killing our business. >> reporter: day said the majority of her regulars live on the other side of the roadblock. and detours would take them far

a severe thunderstorm warning for this cell that's just about on top of us. we've been tracking it over the last couple of hours. and some of this rain really heavy. and it's already raining in parts of the shore. but it's about to get heavier. it's about to get heavier around atlantic city and brigantine and long beach island. some of that heavier rain coming down the atlantic city expressway and galloway township. this shows where the heaviest rain has been. radar estimates, so the brighter the colors, the more rain has fallen. philly southward, especially delaware and south jersey, that's over two inches of rain. some places up to four inches of rain. so far, guess what, more coming tonight. and especially in delaware and south jersey. we don't need any more of this. the atmosphere is extremely moist. has tremendous amounts of moisture. unusual amounts of moisture. for anytime of year.

so when these storms come in, they can produce tremendous amounts of rain. here in the middle of the night, there's one going through allentown. as we go into tomorrow morning, we could see some for the morning rush. we may actually see things quiet down in the middle of the day, and into the afternoon. i don't expect much of rain in the afternoon tomorrow, or tomorrow night. but saturday, it starts building up again. and some of it on the heavy side. this area up by allentown, another one down in delaware. there's saturday night. another batch of storms coming in. now we're into sunday morning. and there's still more. there's sunday afternoon with some heavy storms in parts of south jersey. it's going to be something we'll have to monitor. because you can't keep up with this. they can't have this hour after hour after hour. these downpours. so the flood advisory until 9:00 for parts of delaware and south jersey. it's about to expire in the philadelphia area. and parts of northeast philly.

they didn't get any rain at all. this flood advisory in berks county until 7:45 tonight. now, we do expect most of the day tomorrow to be on the dry side. once you get past the morning rush. that may be the best day of the next three. you also see it's not in the 90s. mid-90s again today. jersey shore, mostly dry during the day tomorrow. just some thunderstorms along with sunshine. east wind coming in, keeping the temperature down as we go through the weekend and early next week. so it's not going to be as hot at the jersey shore. and the ten-day shows those showers and thunderstorms saturday and sunday. and look at the temperatures, go down monday, tuesday, wednesday, nowhere near 90 degrees. and then later on next week, and into next weekend, we may start to get back to near 90.

still a lot of green on the radar. >> yeah, and yellows and reds. those are the more dangerous ones. look at this video from a viewer in chester county. some real downpours earlier this afternoon. and we still have some downpours now moving to the shore. and as you can see on the radar, some of the heaviest going down toward cape may county where the there's a severe thunderstorm warning there. not as much as a few minutes ago, but that's about to hit wildwood, avalon, stratmere getting some of that heavier rain. there will be other periods of heavier showers and storms later on during the night tonight, and again even into the weekend. you'll see those colorful colors there, areas that have already gotten heavy rain today. >> our visitors here might have a tough time catching a flight out tomorrow morning. >> there already is going to be a lot of traffic. >> we'll keep an eye on it.
