county. that's not the only place that is dealing with the impact of severe flooding. nbc 10 first alert radar shows you the parts of our area that are getting hit the hardest by these summer storms. we have not seen the last of the rain. tonight, we do have team coverage of these summer storms. we begin with nbc 10's andrea cline-thomas who is live at the princeton junction train station where flooding caused disruptions for passengers tonight. >> reporter: you see that crews are cleaning out this tunnel. at its height it was completed flooded, with the water almost at the top of the arch. now buses have to transport passengers to the other side of the station. the rain came down for hours. it wasn't long before law enforcement in west windsor township declared a state of emergency. tree limbs were down and flooding across the area caused dangerous conditions.

it even forced a wawa at princeton university to close. by nightfall the intensity had waned but the flooding had not rece receded. getting to the princeton junction train station proved to be a hassle because many roads were closed, forcing drivers to take detours. fernando garcia and john evando ignored the cones and tried to continue down alexander road when they saw another call stall. >> i turned around and i'm not able to shift the gear and do anything. we got out in 4 to 5-inch water. police had to help push the car out for us. >> reporter: this uber driver wasn't take any chances. >> i wait for the people and the people have to walk from the train station to here. >> reporter: law enforcement remained busy as they conducted

rescues, urging drivers to pay attention to the road closures. >> learn from our mistakes. >> be wary of your surroundings. >> reporter: now, the state of the emergency has been lifted. but roads still remain closed. many of those roads remain closed. reporting live, andrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. now we continue our team coverage with meteorologist karen thomas. karen, we have definitely not seen the last of the wet weather this weekend. >> no, it's a large system, george, it's going to hang around. we had plenty of lightning strikes starting late this afternoon coming through the region. the rain is continuing as we go ahead and look at our live doppler radar picture. we can see just where the heaviest rainfall, right now it's looking like a large area of heavy moisture moving into newcastle county and northern delaware, indicated by the yellow. jumping to interior south

jersey, dark green shades there, moving into parts of salem and cumberland counties as well as southern gloucester county. shore points down here still not having any rain. but we can see that the precipitation is continuing to push in a north-northeasterly fashion. that will opinicontinue through overnight hours into our sunday. i'll be back to let you know what we can expect for the rest of our weekend, george. >> karen, thanks very much. for round the clock updates on these summer storms, download the nbc 10 app. there you will get weather alerts, you're find your neighborhood forecast, and you can check out our live radar. from our delaware bureau, witnesses say a fire truck was responding to a call when it crashed into a dirt bike, critically injuring the rider. wilmington police now say that 21-year-old dirt bike rider could be charged for not yielding to the fire truck. the crash happened just about 1:30, at 4th and van buren streets.

the intersection was closed for several hours. no firefighter was hurt. new at 11:00, flames ripped through this apartment in atlantic county. fortunately no one was home at the time. the apartment is on main street in englewood next to a store. the area around route 9 was shut down for some time while investigators looked for a cause. tragedy in texas. a hot air balloon carrying at least 16 people caught fire and then crashed today. it is believed to be the largest loss of life ever in u.s. history in a hot air balloon accident. federal investigators are on the scene near lockhart, which is about 30 miles south of austin. a local balloon pilot tells nbc news he believes power lines may also have been a factor in that significant crash there in texas.

with both conventions in the year view mirror, hillary clinton and tim kaine are now hitting the road. it is day two of a three-day bus trip through the critical battleground states of pennsylvania and ohio. the democrats are trying to sell their jobs plan to working class voters who could be key to winning the election. in pittsburgh tonight, clinton said her administration would create jobs across america, especially in inner cities and small towns. our nbc 10 news digital team has been following the bus tour all weekend. they talked about the crowd before hillary arrived in pittsburgh tonight. you can see their interviews and video on nbc10.com or by using the nbc 10 app. meanwhile, donald trump is focusing on what he believes are america's biggest problems. in denver last night he said the number of americans to own homes is at its lowest point in more than 50 years.

he said long term unemployment is the worst in 70 years. he also talked about the number of twitter and facebook followers he gained during the democratic national convention. his campaign will bring him to pennsylvania coming up on monday. and hillary clinton has now left philadelphia, but not everyone associated with the dnc has cleared out of town just yet. hotels say they got a big last-minute boost as a number of people extended their stays in philadelphia. the lowes hotel in center city says they're sold out again tonight after a big week of hosting delegations. >> once the people got here, they were so busy at first, then they were able to extend their stay and get to know philadelphia. >> the loews hotel extended its restaurant hours until 4:00 a.m. during the convention. that was part of their record-breaking week in sales.

it was a big surprise for a fullcroft police officer who had been shot in the line of duty. listen to those cheers. today officer chris dorman was presented with this customized 2012 jeep wrangler at the summer delaware jeep bash. the team donated some $25,000 in parts and labor to upgrade the officer's jeep. officer dorman was shot seven times during a drug investigation in fullcroft, delaware county. the suspect in that case is charged with attempted murder. and rain, some of it heavy, still moving through our area. i'll let you know when we can specials to dry out. ♪

the region late this afternoon through our evening hours. have the umbrellas handy if you are heading out late this evening, because we do expect the isolated showers to continue. just pick your location here, and you can see your temperature reading. we've got cloudy skies just about everywhere, and showers except here in north wildwood on the boardwalk, folks enjoying that without an umbrella simply because it has been dry along the jersey shore. we've got heavy rain moving in now to parts of northern and central delaware and interior south jersey. you can see by the dark green and yellow there, that's a lot of rain just quickly moving through. we talk about a lot of rain. we're looking at parts of mercer county, middlesex county, up towards northern new jersey, over seven inches of rainfall in just a few hours there. folks dealing with flooding for sure. we'll go ahead and show you that there isn't much behind the system. but we do expect this to continue through the overnight hours. isolated showers. it may not be raining in your neighborhood, but it could be a

deluge in a neighborhood down the way. so we want to bring the umbrellas through the overnight tonight, because the showers will continue. it's currently raining in center city and it has been for quite some time now. we are looking for on and off rain, if you're heading out tomorrow. so peeks of sun for our sunday. cloud cover for sure. and those showers on and off. we can't rule out the possibility of a late day storm come tomorrow afternoon. if you are at the shore tomorrow, maybe you're in the city, here's a look at your five-day forecast. tomorrow a little dicey, sort of similar to today, where some areas will be dry, others having the rain. so if you're at the shore tomorrow, and just keep your eye to the sky. if you do hear rumbles of thunder late in the day, you may have a thunderstorm moving through. monday, we're looking like a chance of showers. then sunshine comes back in the picture. then it's to a that we actually cool off and dry out. we're feeling a lot drier here with lower humidity. so tuesday and wednesday, you're

many parts of our area saw significant rainfall tonight. as we look towards tomorrow, especially inland, the same story. >> yeah, tomorrow will be a repeat of today, george, in a way. up at the pocono raceway this weekend, a lot of folks want to catch this race for tomorrow. this is what you can expect starting early. have the umbrellas, because there's a chance of on and off showers, even though we may get some peeks of sun. it's a very stubborn weather pattern and it seems to be more north than south. we'll have those lows running along that tomorrow afternoon. and the possibility of a late day storm as well tomorrow afternoon. >> something we'll be watching. that's nbc 10 news for now. i'm george spencer. have a great night.
