said is igniting a firestorm. some people believe the comment is a call for violence against hillary clinton. it is still unfolding right now. nbc 10's jim rosenfield has the very latest for us in our breaking news center. jim, what did trump said. >> keith, this happened as donald trump spoke a short time ago at a rally in north carolina. he was talking about what would happen if hillary clinton chose the next supreme court justice. here's what trump said. >> if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. although the second amendment people, maybe there is, i don't know. >> referring there to the second amendment which protects the rights of people to own guns, of course. that left some wondering if trump was hinting about the possibility that hillary clinton could be shot. now, the clinton campaign came out quickly with this statement. it reads, this is simple what trump is saying is dangerous, a person seeking to be president of the united states should not suggest violence in any way.
5:02 pm
that statement from the clinton campaign. then trump's camp responded to that saying he was talking about the power of voters. they write, it's called the power of unification, second amendment people have amazing spirit and are tremendously unified. we're tracking every turn of this breaking news. we are monitoring the campaigns. also social media, which is really abuzz about this this afternoon. we'll bring you what we find right away. for now, back to you, keith. >> jim, thank you. let's get more on this from lauren mayk. she joins us live from lancaster where she just spoke to mike pence. what is pence saying about all this? >> reporter: keith, as all of this was happening, as jim was describing, on twitter from the campaigns, all through social media, as that was happening, governor mike pence was in that building behind me holding a town hall here in lancaster, talking to folks, giving a speech, taking questions from the audience. right after he got off stage, i

got a chance to talk to him about this, i read specifically what donald trump said at that rally and i asked to get his take on it. >> i think donald trump is very clear. you saw the support here today in lancaster for the second amendment to the constitution. hillary clinton's made it very clear that she wants to see changes. in the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. i think what donald trump was clearly saying people cherish that right, that people believe firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizens makes our communities more safe, not less safe. let their voice be heard. electing donald trump as next president of the united states will ensure that we'll have a president that will make appointments to the supreme court that will uphold all the liberties enshrined in our constitution, including the second amendment. >> reporter: you don't believe he was inferring any violence relating to hillary clinton? >> of course not, no. donald trump is urging people around this country to act in a manner consistent with their
5:04 pm
convictions in the course of this election. people who cherish the second amendment have a very clear choice in this election. >> reporter: and he went on to say that choice being between donald trump and hillary clinton regarding the second amendment. now, again, this all happened while he was here at a rally here in lancaster. and we're going to have more from my exclusive interview coming up at 6:00. keith, back to you. >> lauren mayk live for us in lancaster. nbc 10 is on the campaign trail. they'll be with mike pence tonight in pittsburgh. they'll follow him to ohio. look for their reports on the nbc 10 app. right now, though, we have new details on the victim of a deadly hit-and-run. the crash killed a 3-year-old girl in north philadelphia. tonight her family is sharing their grief, and those memories. monique braxton spoke with them today. you just got new information from police? what have you learned? >> reporter: that's right,

i'm meteorologist sheena parveen. the home of storm ranger 10, and the home of the philadelphia eagles. we are the official station for the philadelphia eagles, which is why we brought storm ranger 10 to the link which is where we're at today. let me explain what storm ranger 10 is. if you haven't seen the commercials yet, it is a mobile radar. that on top, that is the radar. it is on right now. and it is scanning the skies for any weather systems out there. for now, though, we're nice and clear. but what it means to you at home is that whenever we have severe storms rolling through, or any type of weather rolling through, we can tell you the specifics of the storm that other stationary radars maybe can't see, if the storm is too far away.
5:15 pm
we also have a weather station right on top of the truck. we can tell you the current conditions outside right now. the wind speed, wind direction, humidity, pressure and everything you need to keep you safe. from here forward we'll be taking it closer to the storms to give you a better, more accurate look. we can give you a better lead time, because if a storm is too far away from a stationary radar, that radar beam is to high in the sky. sometimes we can't see the rotation in a storm. that's when we make the call. we move the truck. we take the radar closer to the storm and we can give you a better lead time, so you can see when the severe weather's heading your way. but meteorologist krystal klei also has fun facts that maybe you didn't know. after unveiling storm ranger 10 last week, some of you may have been thinking of this. the jeep that took storm chasers
5:16 pm
in the movie "twister" on a wild ride. well, it's not exactly the same. it's better. so here are the facts. storm ranger weighs over 16,000 pounds. compare that to nearly 3,000 pounds of a mini cooper. and height? well, our tallest sixer is 7 feet tall. storm ranger is 11 feet tall. 17 with the dome ray. inside this radar dome, the beam is going around a full 360 degrees, and it only takes it ten seconds. it's something that we can track right here on this dial. and just for point of reference, in the time i've been talking, ten seconds has already passed. speaking of that beam it has a range of 75 miles. that's like running the blood cross broad street run 7 1/2 times. the truck has three cameras, so we can keep our eyes on the road, on us, and on the sky. and we're ready for the worst. our truck can withstand
5:17 pm
hurricane force winds. that's 74 miles per hour. so if you're looking for the best technology, and greatest protection for your neighborhood, look no further than storm ranger 10, only on nbc 10. krystal klei, nbc 10 news. >> reporter: so the bottom line here is that we can move storm ranger 10 wherever we want, whenever we want, so we can see the details of a storm that other radars tend to miss. that's why this is going to be such an important tool from here forward, especially when it comes to winter weather. but this week, we have thunderstorms in the forecast, and we have an eagles game. with the eagles game, we will certainly be tracking the weather for you with storm ranger 10. let's head inside to chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz with a look at the eagles forecast coming up. >> yeah, sheena, thunderstorms are going to be a factor that day. and just a question of what areas do get hit. one of the differences with
5:18 pm
storm ranger 10, and the movie "twister" we don't actually go into the storm, into a tornado. we would try to get close to it. and right now, we're close to the linc. and the sweep goes around. and we have a couple of ranges here, the closest range is 30 miles. the longest range is 60 that we find the most detail. so the closer we get to the storm, the more detail we can provide. that's where it's located right now. broad and madison avenue. by the time the eagles are getting to play on thursday night, it's going to be pretty brutal out there. 95 degrees before the game. with a heat index of 101. the feels-like temperature. by kickoff, it will feel like 97. even by the end of the game it's feeling like 90. you want to drink a lot of water during that game. if you're headed out there. we do have a first alert for
5:19 pm
this dangerous heat that's coming. it's for philadelphia, p.a. suburbs, new jersey and delaware. does not include the lehigh valley or the shore because it won't be quite as hot there. this is thursday through saturday that we're talking about. and the feels-like temperature getting well above 100 degrees. right now we're in the 80s with at least partly sunny skies. we have a nice sea breeze going at the shore. look at the ocean temperature, 81 degrees. that's the warmest it's been all season. that's almost ten degrees above average. even with the sea breeze, the temperature's in the 80s at the shore. that's pretty amazing. now, we got up to 85 yesterday. 89 today. 92 tomorrow. then the worst of it, thursday through saturday, the feels-like temperature is getting well over 100. even on sunday, we could still be into the 90s. the humidity with this one is going to be so high, that that's what puts those feels-like
5:20 pm
temperatures so high. now, as we look in the future, hour by hour, nothing more than an isolated shower or two in the morning. not much around in the afternoon either. we may have some showers up toward the lehigh valley, and the poconos. most of tomorrow is rain-free. thursday morning is rain-free. maybe a little bit of fog to start off with. and then in the afternoon, and into the evening, the eagles are getting ready to play, and we do expect some showers and storms in the area. the greatest threat would be north and west of philadelphia. and as we look into tomorrow, you can see the high temperature, 91 in somerton, the feels-like 97. the thunderstorms up in allentown. but we don't have it much in the rest of the area. don't expect them at the shore. but it's going to feel kind of hot. in delaware it's going to feel even hotter. as we go through the next few days, better chance of thunderstorms on thursday, then
5:21 pm
wednesday or friday in philadelphia. but notice in the suburbs, we could get some tomorrow. lehigh valley, any of the three days. so the farther north and west you are in the area, the greater the chance of getting one of those thunderstorms. and any of these storms certainly has the capability of producing some very heavy rain. but look into delaware, once again, we're not predicting much of a chance of thunderstorms. the jersey shore should be a great place to escape this heat and the thunderstorms. >> good to know, glenn. thank you very much. the eagles take a big hit before the season even starts. the key player that could be off the field for ten games. plus, this is all that's left of a popular spot at the delaware beach. the unusual cause of this devastating fire, still ahead at 5:00.

in february to try and bond the family together. and evidently it didn't work, because she still wanted to get out of the marriage. >> reporter: nbc 10 also discovered neither mother nor father had any criminal history in berks county. investigators have not confirmed who pulled the trigger, and since licensed to carry permits are not public record, we couldn't even find out who owned the gun. but we do know the district attorney's office has only requested an autopsy of mark short, not megan or the children. there was also a handwritten murder/suicide note found in that home. perhaps something we'll hear more about when investigators reveal more about their findings sometime later this week. reporting live in reading, george spencer, nbc 10 news. this is what's left of a popular dewy beach restaurant after a woman crashed her car into it.
