u.s. swimming superstar katie ledecky managed to keep her perfect record in tact winning gold defeating sjorstrum. the u.s. women's soccer team flirting with disaster. hope solo failing to stop two goals in their match against colombia. in tennis serena williams was knocked out by a ukrainian. the first time she will leave the olympics without a medal. bad night for serena but worth noting the u.s. women's soccer team still winning their group and will advance to quarter finals. taking a look at the medal count, u.s. remaining on top followed by china, japan and russia. tennis superstars are back in

action. ryan lochte swimming in his first individual race, 200 im and kerri walsh jennings and april ross in beach volleyball. >> shortly after "the final five" grabbed gold i had a chance to talk to simone biles, aly raisman, gabby douglas, laurie hernandez. >> this time we had something big to celebrate. >> what does it feel like to have the gold hanging around your neck? >> i mean, it feels pretty heavy. we are very excited. it doesn't really feel real. we worked so hard. i had someone ask me if we slacked off because we were favorite to win.

had won? what was that moment like for you? >> i felt relieved but very excited because laurie went up first and totally rocked it and then aly. >> wow. >> and then it was my turn to just finish it off. i was very proud of the whole team. >> let's clear up the name. tell me why "final five." >> because this is marta's last olympics. without her none of this would have been possible. so we kind of wanted to do it for her because she is there with us every day. and this is the last olympics where there is a five-girl team. the next is only a four-person team. >> you and gabby did something amazing today. the u.s. women's gymnastics team only won all around three times. you two have won two of them

back-to-back. gabby, from your perspective what does that honor feel like? >> it feels amazing. making history is something so special and to have this unique bond with all of these girls and to represent usa as best as we could just feels amazing. >> you made history, baby. that is so great. for those of you who have won gold before, at the olympic games it is rare you get to see someone's life change right in front of you. we got to witness it happening. describe how their lives will change. >> it will be crazy. a lot of attention. a lot of press. we always say the best competition to win is team competition because we get to celebrate together. when we get home we are doing a 36-city tour and travel the country in tour buses and be around little girls who look up to us.

we were just like them. we were little. >> i remember like going to one of the tours and watching these two. >> they are so cute. i had the chance to sit with some of their parents. in the 8:00 hour we will get their reaction. you can imagine what that was like watching your kid doing so well. as we said a little earlier katie ledecky picked up her second gold in the games. jenna bush hager caught up with her after that race. >> 200 meter gold. >> reporter: leading others in her race katie ledecky capturing second gold in the game, a race proved exhilarating and exhausting. >> it hurt a lot. i came close to throwing up. my legs were hurting.

i think i got mad at myself and i was like i'm just going to get my hand on the wall. >> when you were up there we knew it was a tough race for you. does it make it that much sweeter? >> i think it does. i can see my family in the crowd t. was a great moment. >> some have said this is the ledecky era women's swimming. >> it's a great honor if people think that. i am blessed to be a part of such a great team. we are supporting each other and having a lot of fun. great to see usa racking up a lot of medals here. >> good for her. one thing is really clear, the aquatics stadium has been really good for team usa. >> it certainly has. conor dwyer won bronze in monday's 200 meter freestyle and last night dwyer and townley

got that phone call. it was shocking knowing that my younger 17-year-old cousin killed herself. had such a promising future, had just came back from visiting a division i school. >> she in many ways was like you, outwardly happy helping others which is what a lot of your teammates have said about you. >> if there is one thing that i can say is if i knew and help her and let her know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. >> april's death was a wakeup call for allison. she needed to find light at the end of her own tunnel. >> would never share when she was in a bad mood. >> michael phelps, allison's long-time friend teammate and room mate knew she was struggling. >> you continue going to a dark hole. i didn't want to see her go
