the park in northeast philadelphia. let's take a live look over the wilmington sky tonight. good evening, everyone. i'm jim rosenfield. the hottest weather of the summer settles in. let's get right to glenn "hurricane" schwartz with your first alert neighborhood forecast. and it's a hot one. >> we've been warning you about this for a week. we had the first alert for much of the philadelphia area, the p.a. suburbs, new jersey, delaware, even up toward the lehigh valley now, through sunday. a combination of the heat and extremely high humidity, making it feel like it's up to 110. and that's no exaggeration as you'll see. near 90 in delaware with sunshine. lehigh valley near 90. 92 in philadelphia. we hit 95 degrees today. but how it felt, wow, it feels like 101 now in philadelphia. 100 in allentown. 103 vineland.

111 in dover. that number was up to 114 an hour ago. now, we have most of the area rain-free, but we do have a couple of thunderstorms in bucks county right now. as you can see, a lot of lightning right near buckingham. this storm is moving slowly to the east. and there is a flood advisory for that portion of the area. we'll talk more about future storms and when we might get a break from this heat in a few minutes. >> glenn, we'll see you soon. the first alert weather team coverage continues with randy gyllenhaal, live in bethlehem where crowds of people are braving the heat and trying to stay cool at musicfest. how are they doing, randy? >> reporter: it is day seven of musicfest. like you guys mentioned, it feels like a hundred degrees out here. by far the hottest day yet. you've got to grab a couple bottles of water. you staying busy out here? >> definitely. >> reporter: you've got to stay hydrated. paramedics say they've had a number of cases of heat exhaustion over the past week. but they are concerned as this

heat wave gets stronger, it could get even worse. dancing in the shade, anything to keep out of the sun as the band plays the motown hit heat wave. on point this week, feels like 100 out here at musicfest. >> a little hot. >> reporter: tough work for vendors like dan, spending 12 hours a day outside in front of a sizzling grill. >> one of the hottest years i can remember on record for musicfest. >> reporter: bethlehem ems on high alert all week patrolling these big crowds, looking for signs of distress. and already they've had patients from 7 to 70 years old. >> these patients are passing out, very, very soaking wet, pale looking. and not drinking enough. down they went. >> reporter: the week will get even hotter, with larger crowds. lady antebellum plays here

saturday. paramedics are giving these tips to anyone who will listen. >> sweating is very bad, but if you start feeling confused, a little weak, that's the beginning of heat exposure. >> i'm soaking wet. like everybody else. >> reporter: in the meantime, fans seem to be popular here. >> not good enough. but it was free. >> reporter: lemonade and ice cream, mainstays under this hot summer sun. >> a gelato with black cherry ice. >> necessary today? >> yes, absolutely. it's really hot. >> reporter: and now these crowds are going to start making their way over to the main stage. we have a big rock concert tonight. lady antebellum on saturday. paramedics tell me they actually see most of the problems at nighttime after the sun sets, because the crowds are much bigger, and the beer is flowing. live in bethlehem, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. >> you know where else it will be hot and steamy. we're just under away from seeing the birds in action for

the first time this season. take a live look inside lincoln financial feed from our bird's nest camera where the field just took the field moments ago. tim furlong is with fans outside xfinity live in south philly who say they're ready to see how the team's looking this year. tim? >> reporter: that's right, jim, it's hot out here. crazy hot out here. you can see just how many fans are coming out here. the grills are fired up. it feels like football. everybody's excited because it's the beginning of a new era for a coach, and everybody's excited to see the rookie quarterback who's expected to be the future of the team. out in tailgate land, we found fans just excited to have football back. >> it's hot. but i wouldn't want to be anyother place. >> die sip pl of andy reed. i believe in doug peterson. let's go. you're the man. >> reporter: 99% of the fans now want to see just one guy, the rookie. >> i want to see carson wentz.

tonight. >> reporter: yes. i cannot see the aquatic center or the gymnastics venue from where i'm standing here today, but i'm sure i will hear sounds and screams from those areas in a little bit this evening. team usa going for more gold tonight in gymnastics and swimming. michael phelps and ryan lochte. you have to watch. will this be the final duel in the pool for phelps and lochte? that duo finished 1-2 in the semis of the 200 meter im. they are ready for a rematch tonight. and two days after winning team gold for women's gymnastics, teammates simone biles and aly raisman will start their rotations on the vault. and golf teed off today for the first time in more than a century at the olympics. british player dustin rose had a hole in one, first ever in a

game in first round of play. golden girl of these games, katie ledecky broke an olympic record today in the prelims for the 800 meter free style. she continues to impress here at rio de janeiro in these summer games. jim, back to you. >> she is unbelievable. jackie, we'll check back with you in just a few minutes. in the meantime, news headlines here at home. from working with attorney general kathleen kane to working with the prosecutors, trying to put her behind bars, today the man who helped get her elected described kane as a woman coming unhinged, hell-bent on revenge and paranoid as the investigation closed in on her. as josh morrow testified, a secret fbi recording was played of him talking to a friend about kane wanting documents given to a reporter. kane is accused of leaking secret grand jury material to get pack at a colleague. kane's legal team is trying to paint the prosecution witnesses as liars who are responsible for the leak.

from our jersey shore bureau this evening, a flame geyser in egg harbor township. a viewer sent us this video near ocean heights avenue and blackman road. no reports of anyone hurt with this. ocean heights remains closed between blackman and feelinggood road while they isolate that gas line. police arrested a second teen abler accused of killing another teen on the basketball court. two 16-year-olds were accused of gunning down barnes back on july 11th. they believe the suspects had bad blood following another game the previous week. police in south jersey take a new approach to locating a couple of wanted suspects. mount laurel police posted pictures on facebook of what they're calling the latest contestants in felony star search. yeah, they won't win any prizes or collect any cash. instead, they're invited to redeem an all-inclusive trip to

in rio. you've seen me here since the evening of the opening ceremony. standing in front of barra olympic park. i thought you might be curious what it's like behind me. so i'm going to take you inside this park beyond this immediate area. take a look. for many people, just being around the olympic venues is as exciting as getting the tickets to be inside, to share the same passion you do for countries coming together, and all that it signifies. >> it's very beautiful to see sports unite so many people from around the world. it's a unifying type of occasion. >> it's that feeling of seeing all the countries come together on a peaceful note. it's amazing. >> reporter: there's nothing like finding a taste at home when you're so far away from home. we bumped into the mohen family

from chononshohocken. >> it's been in the works for eight years. it's been exciting so far. >> reporter: when you fly into rio de janeiro, brazil, to come to the olympics, there's something you will stand in a really long line for. >> being from america, i think this place is gorgeous. i think they've done very well. between the world cup and the olympics, i think rio is the place to be right now. >> reporter: the line to wait to get a photo with those olympic rings can get really long. but if you take a step back, and if you listen, you hear so many languages from all over the world representing the people who are here. and they're all there in that line for one goal. much-needed sense of unity in a time that can be very divided. coming up next on nbc 10, we

want to show you this image. you may have seen some similar ones. this is what it looks like to be the parent of an olympian. we will follow one family's trip to rio in a moment they will never forget. that and more on the "olympic zone" at 7:30 with keith jones. that's all for now. i send it back to the nbc 10 studios and jim rosenfield. >> yeah, you can only imagine the tension for those parents. turning now to a weather threat right here at home. first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz now. >> it's going to last for a while, all the way through the weekend. at least. we got up to 93 wednesday. 95 today. felt like about 102. and it's just going to get hotter. peaking 98 degrees on saturday, feeling like 107. that's in philadelphia. it will be worse in parts of delaware. monday may still be near 90. tuesday we finally get out of it. it's 92 in philadelphia now. 78 in some of the suburbs.

where we've seen some rain and thunderstorms. the sea breeze continues to not have much of an effect. still in the mid-80s. ventnor city 84. the ocean still very warm. 79. and the ocean having an effect in delaware, too. but look at the combination with the humidity. these are the feels-like temperatures. 106 in harmony hills. 105 in meadow glen. 105 in felton. 112 in dover. 103 in lewis. look at that. at the beaches it feels like over 100. we don't have much in the way of showers, but a couple of pretty heavy ones in bucks county right now. they were in mercer county. this is not moving very much. and it's causing localized flooding, right near buckingham and going on to west amwell. we'll keep an eye on that over the next couple of hours.

the gem trend, most of the activity is north and west of the philadelphia area. and it will pretty much stay that way as we go through the next few days. much greater chance of thunderstorms north and west. as we go through the day tomorrow, we see some thunderstorms breaking out in some areas. similar story on saturday. we start the day off dry. then with the heat and humidity, we get a few thunderstorms around. but this is generally, again, north and west. but look at the feels-like temperatures. they're crazy. somerton feeling like 105 right now. uber dublin township 102. even feeling like near 100 right at the jersey shore. speaking of the shore, here's some relief over the weekend. 87 degrees. but it's going to be very humid. same thing with the poconos. better chance of thunderstorms

there. as we go through the rest of the weekend, it's just going to be hot everywhere. some relief at the jersey shore where it's in the 80s. best chance of thunderstorms, you can see lehigh valley, friday, saturday and sunday. same thing with the p.a. suburbs, the farther toward the shore you get, the lower the chance of any rain. now we're going to go outside to meteorologist krystal klei live at lincoln financial field where it is a really hot start to the eagles season. >> reporter: yeah, you are absolutely right, glenn. i wish i could say it's perfect conditions for a game. but it is a little humid out here. that's not stopping folks from flooding into the stadium right now. the opener for the eagles. it's preseason. i have to say, people have been going by, walking right by storm ranger. big question has been, what is that big white thing? that's our radar dome. that's where we've got the radar that we can take into your neighborhood, that we can transport to where the storms

i'm john clark with csn here at the linc for the eagles' first preseason game. the birds are out on the field to get ready. lane johnson arrived here earlier. and the eagles say lane johnson will start tonight and play. there's a cloud over him right now. reports say he is facing a ten-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. but he will play tonight according to the eagles. take a look at doug peterson. he came out on the field in the last hour. he's going to be making his debut as the birds' head coach. first time coaching a game as head coach here at the linc. doug peterson comes from the andy reed tree. i think he'll run the ball a little more. he said, yes, i will call all the plays. >> from the speed standpoint of

calling the plays, to quarterback, it's probably the biggest issue. and then just -- it keeps you so in tuned to the game. >> reporter: the plan tonight is to have sam bradford and the starters play a couple of series to start the game. and the second half carson wentz will start the second half. he was out on the field here warming up. he has anticipated this moment for a while. i bet you he could hardly sleep last night. but he says he is not going to be nervous for tonight. he has been looking forward to this. >> i just want to play smart. lots of completions. just really manage the offense. control the game and show my leadership capabilities. i'm not going to worry about the statistics or anything. i just want to play smart and execute. >> reporter: and we are less than ten minutes away from our
