>> and we have a feeling that the anthem simone biles is about to hear, may not be the last time she stands atop the podium in rio. she has three more events. the vault on sunday. the beam on monday. and the floor on tuesday. she could walk out of here, or prance out of here, as the case may be, with five gold medals. aly raisman is back in competition in the floor on tuesday. and she is the defending olympic gold medalist in that event. she won it in london in 2012. >> ladies and gentlemen, the anthem of the united states of america. ♪

>> teammates, close friends, medalists tonight in rio, biles and raisman. that brings us to a look at the medal count of day six. presented by mcdonald's, supporting athletes on their journeys toward olympic gold. another big day and night for the americans, with five golds overall. while the united states owns more gold medals than any other country in olympic history, fiji won a gold in rugby for its first medal of any kind. a nation with a population less than delaware, fiji loves rugby like no other sport. children grow up with a ball in their hands. entire villages huddle around radios and small tvs to listen to or watch the national team

play. and today, fans packed the 15,000-seat national stadium. there you see it, in the capital city. and they watched the gold medal match won by their countrymen there tonight. meanwhile, turning back to the headliners here in rio, a group that included aly raisman, winning a silver medal and the performance of her life in the all around. raisman has five medals in her distinguished olympic career, three of them gold. tonight's silver for raisman, came on a night that belonged to a pair of athletes that clearly rank among the best ever in their respective sports. over five olympics, michael phelps has set records that likely will never be broken. maybe not even approached. while over merely five days, simone biles has left an impression that will never be forgotten. two champions who once again tonight, not only won, but truly outdistanced their competition. still, there was another note-worthy champion tonight. simone manuel became the first

african-american woman to win an individual olympic swimming medal. manuel, a 20-year-old from sugarland, texas, tied for the gold with canadian penny oleksiak, with sarah sjostrom of sweden winning the bronze. a rarity as the canadian and american national anthems are played. ♪ ♪ >> ladies and gentlemen, the anthem of the united states of america. ♪

nothing but gold. michael phelps grabs his fourth medal in rio, plus, we take you inside this tricked out spot where team usa spends time away from competition. new era begins. carson went makes his debut. bicycle backlash. cyclists are redding red lin la lights. we get with the sweltering heat. our region is dealing with temperatures that feel like triple digits. and it will only get hotter as we head into the weekend.

sheena parveen is tracking this. in it is only going to get hotter as we go into the weekend. it felt as hot as 103 in philadelphia. tomorrow feeling as hot as 105. look at the weekend temperatures, mid to upper 90s. humidity will make us feel around 107 on saturday, maybe 106 on sunday. the bottom of the screen has days outlined in red. those are the first alert days we have for pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. across the entire weekend, the humidity making it feel like 100 to 110 degrees. most of the areas dry. we're watching thunderstorms through northampton county and in the poconos where there's a flash flood warning. the rest of the area is very warm and humid. closer look as we look at the heat and who else could see storms, coming up.

good evening. i'm jacquelyn london coming to you live from rio de janeiro. did you watch? how could you not? michael phelps and ryan lochte are now the two most-decorated swimmers in olympic history. and for the fourth straight olympic games they went head to head with gold on the line. let's go to the pool. phelps and lochte, this is the 200-meter, individual medley. this was all phelps. he entered the final turn with the lead and never looked back. phelps pulled away, finishing a full 2 seconds ahead of the field. lochte finished off the podium in fifth place. now less than an hour later, phelps was back in the pool for the 100-meter butterfly. phelps touched the wall in second place, punching his ticket for the finals tomorrow. simone manuel put on a show in the women's 300 freestyle.

setting a new olympic record. she became the first african-american woman to win a gold medal in an individual swimming event. simone biles is the best female gymnast in the world and now has the gold medal to prove it. she outranks aly raisman. it is the second time american win finish one-two, and a few moments ago, we heard from simone biles. >> feeling like a whirlwind of emotions. excited, happy, proud, of both me and aly. we both went out there and did our jobs, so i couldn't ask for anything more. >> reporter: and still ahead, we will take you inside the usa house here in rio. have you heard about it? you have to take a look at it.

it's where the u.s. athletes go, corporate sponsorship and something you want to lay your eyes on. and a former eagle was there today. >> and we're going to talk about the face of the eagles' future. talking about carson wentz. an inconsistent performance, including an interception, but the birds did win their first preseason game under doug peterson. and nbc 10 is your official eagles station. but we start with drew smith. and how fans are feeling. >> reporter: it was a scorcher down here at the link. that didn't stop fans from welcominged rookie carson wentz. fans were all smiles in south philadelphia, even when the sun was as hot as the flames on the

throwing obscene gestures, passing buses and blowing through red lights. >> i've got places to be. >> reporter: bicycle riders are a fast-growing presence on philadelphia's streets, but people ask whether they're following the rules of the road. >> i don't feel like they apply to me. >> and we expose philadelphia's most dangerous intersections for riders. but many of you asked us to see how violating the rules. >> reporter: interewe found bic were sometimes friendly, waving and smiling as they appeared to break the rules and sometimes aggressive. blasting through an intersection, right behind police. and on the corners like this, we witnessed this, sometimes

they're down right dangerous, nearly causing crashes. what happened back there? >> i didn't run a red light. >> reporter: we just saw you. >> oh, no. we're good. >> reporter: wanted to ask why you ran that red light. >> i got to go to work, bud. >> reporter: and as she headed on her way, she made her feelings for us known. since this survey showed philly has the highest percentage of residents biking to work on any major u.s. city. early this summer we investigated a spike in bike fatalities and advocates push to crackdown on speeding drivers. more and more people are riding bikes in the city of philadelphia. but on our social media, one viewer said, quote, i'm really tired of seeing the cyclists not following the laws. another, bike riders don't follow the rules of the road. and many more voiced the same frustration. >> cyclists are supposed to be following the very same rules as drivers. >> absolutely.

>> reporter: but investigators found there's no way to know how often violations occur because road rules are almost never enforced on philly's cyclists the between january and mid july, philly pd only issued 12 citations to bicyclists, including two for cyclists hanging on vehicles. it's part of a steep decline over the last three years. >> officers are responding to calls for gunshots, robberies, burglaries. >> reporter: so the nbc 10 investigators took to the streets for an unscientific survey. we set up cameras and counted anyone who appeared to run red lights, ignore turn lanes or travel the wrong way. at all five locations, cyclists appeared to ignore those basic intersection rules at a higher rate than drivers, sometimes

in the open at a county-owned golf course in new jersey. the fall out tomorrow after the olympics in prime time. meantime, we're learning what sparked this gas main fire at the jersey shore today. an electrical wire fell and hit a guard rail. that's what caused the gas main to ignite on ocean heights avenue. it took eight hours to get this under control. several customers are still without gas service tonight. up next. wanna-be lumberjacks trying to take down this tree to pull off a brazen theft in fishtown. but the tree's tougher than it looks. you have to see this video, next. and some parts of the area did see a little bit of rain relief today. but we do have a few more storms in the forecast, along with dangerous heat. i'll show you how hot it will be feeling coming up through the weekend. first we're about to check out the current medical coual c.

so we're still in a first alert as we go through your weekend. this is heat wave number five in the making. and today with us second day in the 90s, 95 today. it felt as hot as 103. over the weekend we will be in the 90s, including your friday, of course, and then possibly starting next week if we hit 90 on monday. that will continue the heat wave. by tuesday we do expect it to break normal high, actually 86 degrees. and temperatures will be feeling around 107, possibly 110 in some areas this weekend too. if you look at the seven-day at the bottom of the screen, some of. neighborhoods have rain chances as we go into the weekend. so that la giwill give you a li bit of relief. not everybody. now we're looking at the radar. not everyone seeing the rain. of course most of us not seeing the rain at all today. but up in the poconos, heavy rain. chestnut hill seeing heavy rain, flash flood warning until 3:15. we've seen a lot of heavy rain

in this area in the past few hours. we're looking at possibly local streets and creeks flooding. for now, keep in mind we could be seeing quite a bit of flooding there. neighborhood temperatures for tomorrow, packer park, 97 degrees, feeling like 106. if you're in the pennsylvania suburbs, feeling near 100 degrees. new jersey, 95. stone harbor, 86, harrington, 95, feeling close to 110. here's future weather. not everyone's going to see the rain chances. mostly if you're north and west of philadelphia you could see a few late-day showers. it will help to cool your temperatures. not long-lived, though. maybe popup storms along philadelphia. you're looking at a fairly dry weekend along the shore. but hot and humid. by the weekend the showers are

sparse. we have a loftd 90s, friday, saturday and sunday. and not every neighborhood is going to have a rain chance. the best chance is north and west of philadelphia, and the lehigh valley. if you're along the shore, your temperatures will be in the 80s. your short cast for the weekend, mainly the upper 80s. some areas around 9d 0 degrees. we'll be right back.
