olympian. last year longa was diagnosed with lung cancer and had his left lung removed. as he came to shore his sons, who also competed in rio, jumped into the water to greet their dad. longa said afterwards that rio was a very emotional games for him. he said watching the racing of my sons and my sons watching my racing and then celebrating today with them, it's just been too much for me. well, as we say good night from rio, we'll return to the medal ceremony for the women's floor exercise earlier today. simone biles capped her impressive olympic debut with her fourth federica mogherinigo games while aly raisman collected the silver. her sixth over all. joining them was amy tinkler of great britain who took the bronze. and that smile from simone biles, millions upon millions of

wouned warrior theft. someone stole thousands of dollars worth of bicycles meant to help injured veterans. >> post-olympic surge. our local athletes indulge once the games are over. hero's welcome. chase utley gets several standing ovations and hits a grand slam in his very first game back in philadelphia. nbc 10 news starts now. >> good evening, i'm jim rosenfield. and we begin with a big blow to the wounded warrior project. thieves managed to steal nearly $40,000 worth of bikes and equipment from the veteran's group. police say the bikes were supposed to be used at the veteran organization's bike race this past weekend. nbc 10's brandon hudson shows us how the group now plans to get back on track. >> reporter: nbc 10 learned the theft happened in the parking lot of this renaissance hotel.

a u-haul containing nine bikes and equipment worth $37,000 was stolen overnight friday. >> i was amazed, i was disappointed, i was frustrated, and i was just angry. >> reporter: we spoke to tracy farrell with the wounded warrior project through facetime. tracy says this equipment was for the annual community ride in philadelphia this past weekend. one of many rides done nationwide as seen in this video from their website. >> it was the equipment that we needed in case something happened. to either fix the bikes or to help. >> reporter: we know the bikes stolen were custom made, valued at tens of thousands of dollars, but a local bike shop owner says an entry level price is around $770. that is like stealing 48 of these bicycles. shaun is the general manager at

in the last few weeks. meanwhile, trump held a campaign rally in west bend, wisconsin, tuesday night, where he courted african-american voters. >> i'm asking for the votes of every african-american citizen struggling in our country today, who wants a different and much better future. >> trump said the clinton campaign talks down to minority groups and only sees african-americans as votes. it is official tonight, pennsylvania's attorney general kathleen kane will resign wednesday following her conviction. her deputy bruce castor will take over as acting attorney general. he's the former montgomery county d.a. a jury found her guilty of leaking grand jury information and lying about it. the governor can appoint a replacement for the remainder of kane's term but hasn't said if he will do that. kane is out on bail until her sentencing in november.

new from south jersey, a gloucester county cop is accused of promising to drop criminal charges in exchange for sex. officer robert marzi is suspended and facing charges of his own. south jersey bureau reporter sydney long explains. >> reporter: according to this criminal complaint, 29-year-old police officer robert marzi solicited oral sex from a female, a sex favor detectives say in exchange for making her charges disappear. >> if it's true, that's really screwed up. >> frankly, i'm not surprised. >> reporter: the alleged incident happened january 17th. details about where and how, investigators won't say. marzi, who wasn't home today or visiting his parents turned himself in to county prosecutors august 10th. >> wow. supposed to trust the police officers, and ash a female, something wrong, i'm going to look for a police officer and hope i can trust them. >> reporter: detectives want to know if marzi made any other

former philadelphia mayor michael nutter is firing back at the city's comptroller. he's responding to a comptroller report that found nearly $400,000 in proceeds from the philadelphia marathon were used as a so-called personal slush fund under nutter's watch, claiming the cash came from the mayor's fund. an independently funded nonprofit. a top nutter aide who oversaw the fund spent money without approval of the fund's board, the report showed a credit card used pay for a trip to rome, a $52,000 local hotel bill during the pope's visit, transportation, and even shoes. >> this is extraordinarily dangerous, it's completely unacceptable, and it's particularly concerning in an administration whose hallmark was transparency and honesty. >> nutter issued a statement calling the comptroller a liar, a snake, and a hypocrite.

back into tomorrow night. heat wave number five started last wednesday. today we hit 94, felt over 100 again, so, yes, we are still technically in a heat wave. the normal high is only 86, so we've been well above for the past seven days. tomorrow, though, right around 90, so we could still be barely in a heat wave. here's a look at the radar currently. we have a few showers and storms that have moved into the area. quickly here across 76, white hall, westchester, pretty heavy rain. that's one thunderstorm moving mostly to the east around 40 miles an hour or so, moving pretty quickly. king of prussia expect it by 12:34, upper darby 12:39. another thunderstorm through parts of bucks county. you're seeing some of the heavy rain move in and this is fairly heavy rain, but it's going to be moving into new jersey soon. future weather, showers and storms moving through overnight and clear for your morning commute tomorrow. by the afternoon we're dry, so tomorrow a dry day, still around

as the death toll rises in louisiana, local volunteers are answering the call for help tonight. new aerial drone video over baton rouge shows the extent of the damage. entire communities are under water. the death toll now stands at 11, and here in philadelphia the american red cross call center is working around the clock to help. it's taking emergency calls from louisiana residents looking for assistance or a place to stay that's out of harm's way. normally the call center gets about 120 calls per day. it's handled more than 2,400 in the last 24 hours. >> right now we're still in response mode. the waters are still rising, it's still raining, and at this point we're looking at thousands of people displaced. >> now, to put this in perspective, the first alert team says this is the worst flooding disaster since superstorm sandy. how about good sports news.
