>> right now at 6:00, ryan lochte in his own words. he sat down with the "today" show's matt lauer about the olympic scandal that everyone is talking about. good evening, i'm denise nakano. lochte and three other swimmers have been embroiled in controversy after claiming they were robbed at gunpoint outside a rio gas station. it's something brazilian authorities have denied. lochte first made that claim to nbc's billy bush. >> when you talked to billy on sunday afternoon, you didn't tell him the whole truth. when you spoke with me on wednesday night by phone, you didn't tell me the whole truth. >> i left -- i left details out. and -- which that's why i'm in this mess is i left certain things out and i overexaggerated some parts of the story. >> for more of what ryan lochte told matt lauer, watch nbc nightly news at 6:30 and our primetime olympic coverage starting at 8:00 p.m. team usa has a reason to

celebrate tonight. the women's basketball team won its sixth straight olympic gold medal today. they beat out spain 101-72. wilmington's alana delle donne scored her first olympic gold medal. we've been dominating the lead in the olympic medal count as the competition wraps up too many. nbc's brian mooar has a look at today's highlights from olympic park in rio. >> reporter: and there is your olympic gold medalist and for the first time ever, she comes from the united states. >> she crossed the finish line first and broke a barrier, the first-ever triathlon gold for team usa. stevenson fought hard but lost a split decision in boxing. he's taking home silver. >> ace serve again! >> and women's indoor volleyball team defeated the netherlands to take bronze on this penultimate

day of competition, we've learned simone biles is going to carry the stars and stripes and lead team usa in tomorrow night's closing ceremony. first, there's a big night ahead on the track and americans are looking to go the distance. men in the 1500 and 5,000. women in the high jump and 800. >> you get the team spirit behind you, it pushes you on. >> reporter: both men and women are hoping to help the u.s. medal count in the 4 x 400 relay. the daughter of former eagles quarterback, randall cunningham, is going for gold tonight. she's one of 17 athletes competing in the women's high jump final in rio. it's a golden day in delaware. students cheered on and got a chance to meet some olympic champions. nbc 10's drew smith is live in wilmington where a watch party for a gold-winning former student just wrapped up. drew. >> reporter: yes, they just threw a big party for one of

their most famous graduates. her name is allana delle donne. inside the gym, current students here decked out in team usa colors, had a lot to cheer about. delle donne's name is still all over the banners in that stadium. the students were overjoyed to see someone they knew well win gold. >> she's really nice. she comes to our school all the time. >> she's such a great role model for the rest of our girls and they absolutely love her. >> reporter: not far away over in newark, another celebration with an olympic gold medalist. people lined up to get a photo and a photograph from sierra runje at the pool. she helped the usa qualify in the 4 x 200 relay. >> i don't feel like i'm a

special person but do have all these little kids and people look up to me is pretty incredible. >> reporter: runge will head back to college in just a couple of days. she said she's going to be training hard over the next four years. she expects to be in tokyo for the next summer games. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. >> thanks, drew. coming up tonight at 7:30 on the olympic zone, from the pool to the track to the gymnastics floor, some of the most unforgettable moments from the 2016 summer games in rio. that's tonight at 7:30 right here on nbc 10. philadelphia police are still searching for clues in a stabbing at a popular old city bar. just before 2:00 this morning, a 33-year-old man was stabbed at blue martini. that's why we find andrea cline-thomas who joins us live. >> reporter: those out here early this morning say they saw the victim stumble across the street and collapse.

at last check he was listed in critical condition. investigators were interviewing a person of interest. meanwhile the blue martini is back open for business. central detectives returned to the blue martini this afternoon. we went inside and spoke to a supervisor, who declined to go on camera. she tells us it happened so fast. early this morning just before the 2:00 a.m. closing time, there was an argument. but no one inside knew there was a stabbing until those involved spilled out onto the sidewalk. >> i heard screaming. >> reporter: investigators say the victim, a 33-year-old man, was stabbed in the neck. >> i went to my car -- >> reporter: the blue martini is a well-known upscale bar. the supervisor says there are always plenty of bouncers inside. >> yeah, absolutely i'm shocked. to me it's an isolated incident. it's just a shame that it puts a black eye on old city.

>> reporter: now, we checked and the last time the blue martini had any issues was back in february of 2011. that's when there was a shooting outside of the bar. we asked the supervisor today if there were any plans to increase security in light of thissin de -- incident and she said no, they had plenty of security onhand. she said there is surveillance video and they passed that along to police. three people are in the hospital tonight after a shooting in west philadelphia. dozens of bullet casings line the scene on south 55th and heft n -- chestnut streets. one man was struck in the leg, the other in the groin and hip. police made several arrests and recovered the guns that were used. sunshine and blue skies today. we found these youngsters

cashing in on the hot weather selling lemonade. they had options. a small cup for 50 cents or a large one for a buck. first alert meteorologist erica martinez is here with the forecast. >> i do think that's a really wise decision, selling lemonade considering how hot it was. right now i'm tracking some developing clouds. on radar we are picking up some spotty showers moving through parts of the philly metro area. i do want you to take a look right here. notice the green getting picked up on radar. that's telling us we do have one or two isolated showers but that's really not the big weather story for this weekend. in fact a wider perspective here, notice all of this activity moving through parts of the mississippi river valley and the ohio valley as well. so all of that is headed towards the east. we do have the threat of some severe weather by tomorrow, but then next week will be fantastic starting on monday. so coming up in my full weather

nbc 10's competition to watch is locally sponsored by the all new 2017 chrysler pacifica. >> in western pennsylvania now, officials are trying to determine what caused a boat to overturn, leaving three men dead and a fourth injured. it happened in clarion county more than an hour outside of pittsburgh. authorities say the 21-foot boat apparently ran up the riverbank and overturned on the allegheny river around 1:30 this morning.

the survivor, a man in his 70s, was taken to the hospital. autopsies are planned for the victims. in southern california, more residents are returning home as crews make progress battling a wildfire. more than 100 homes have been destroyed by the fire burning in san bernardino county. the fire is now 68% contained after burning 58 square miles. construction workers in philly facing tough new requirements. next, the classes they'll have to take to prevent a demolition disaster. and i'm tracking some showers for this evening and the threat of some severe weather by sunday night. details coming up in my full forecast. hello!

making safety the number one priority. that was the mission of a class held in philadelphia today. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal took a look at what workers are learning and why this training is now law. >> reporter: these new requirements come in response to the collapse back in 2013. every construction worker in the city must now complete ten hours of training before they can even set foot on a job. >> all these things we see every day. >> reporter: the 60-plus welders, electricians and construction workers woke up at sunrise, cramming into a small classroom. >> it actually is a hazard. >> reporter: taking advantage of a free ten-hour osha training class, how to stay safe on a construction job site. >> to give them awareness of all

the hazards associated with construction, including in demolition, falls, electrical hazards. and they were just highlighting it so they were aware of it. >> reporter: it's training like this that could have prevented the deadly market street collapse, a brick wall at a demolition site fell onto a crowded salvation army store killing six people and violating numerous safety regulations. >> that should have been presented. >> reporter: gary took the class today and said it's clear the market street job was unsafe. >> i would have stopped that job, okay. i would have put barricades around it. and i would have prevented that store from opening up. >> reporter: the mandatory training is just one change the city has made since the collapse. the deadline has already passed, so city inspectors are out strictly enforcing certification. instructors here say the takeaway is good planning, check your surroundings and safety first. >> so if you work your plan following the osha guidelines, you should not have any issues.

now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> good evening, i'm meteorologist erika martin with a look at your weather. 88 degrees, southerly winds at 10 to 12 miles per hour. we do have one or two isolated showers moving on through. so for this evening, pop-up showers, one or two rounds of isolated thunderstorms. really not a major situation. a dry start to your sunday. however, we do have a stormy sunday evening and especially a stormy sunday night. and here's why. satellite/radar image picking up on those isolated showers due to a back door cold front moving in from the northeast. so a little unsettled for some this evening into tonight. however, the big story is tomorrow. there's a low-pressure system hanging right over the great lakes. that will continue to work its way across southern canada. here is your frontal boundary, it will continue to work its way eastward.

so the story goes as follows. it looks like we will start off dry tomorrow, some areas of patchy fog early tomorrow morning and severe weather especially after 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. notice those lightning strikes across parts of new york state and pennsylvania. the next three days look like this. unsettled for tomorrow, stormy certainly by the evening hours. monday and tuesday and in fact most of next week is going to be ideal. it doesn't look like the threat of showers return until friday, saturday possibly, but look at these temperatures. a lot more comfortable as well. overnight lows, especially higher up in elevation, looks like you could see some low 50s and upper 40s. so a lot cooler. and those dew points certainly much more comfortable. look at this trend here, a lot more pleasant by monday into tuesday show the good news is those showers and those thunderstorms will clear. overnight sunday into monday. but keep in mind it certainly will be very messy. right now at 6:00 p.m. we can see the threat of some showers

moving on through, everything clearing, and then by tomorrow morning we're tracking the threat of those showers and those isolated thunderstorms. so keep that in minds, especially for that afternoon and evening commute. i'm tell you, it's going to be messy. i wouldn't be surprised if we get one or two strong thunderstorms by tomorrow night. overnight lows for tonight mainly in the 60s. and your ten-day outlook looks pretty good overall, especially by monday. so strak tracking the threat of those showers and thunderstorms for tomorrow. then it looks like the pop-up showers will clear and we do have areas of patchy fog. look at this, sunshine, sunshine, sunshine, not much else to talk about and again tracking the potential for some showers by later this week, but that's really far out. be sure you follow us on social media for more updates. denise, back to you. i'm marshall harris. the eagles back on the ground but does that include jordan matthew. plus we kel you when we might

doug pederson said before practice he just wanted to give wentz a test. pederson also talked about wentz's rehab plan. >> it's one that i'm not going to rush back. i know that injury can be a little discomforting, but at the same time i want to see where he's at. >> will we see him for the last preseason game? >> still trying to get him ready for that game, yes. >> plus jordan matthews continues to miss practice with a knee injury. pederson says if matthews does not play next saturday against the colts, he'll also be held out of the final preseason game. the eagles believe matthews will be ready for the season opener on september 11th even if he misses the entire preseason. >> i played, you know, i feel like enough football to where obviously i know i can do that. it's never ideal. especially for me, i like to get reps and go out for practice. but all the reps i'm seeing, whether i'm practicing week one or the jets week, whatever week it will be, i'm going to go out
