investigators say he had inappropriate pictures of underage girls on his cell phone. good evening. i'm keith jones. police believe there could be more potential victims, and they have a warning tonight for parents and children. nbc 10's deanna durante is live with this exclusive story from bensalem. deanna, what can you tell us? >> reporter: eric ward was taken from here just a little while ago to face a judge. we're told that he was given bail, $7,000, no word yet if he posted that bail. tonight he's charged with computer theft, invasion of privacy, and corruption. and police say at the time of the alleged crimes was a volunteer firefighter. eric, do you want to say anything? he shakes his head no as he's escorted to his first court appearance. investigators say on august 14th a bensalem woman called police saying her phone was stolen. ward was found to have the phone and he helped himself to the

woman's photo library. >> sent it to his phone. he took numerous pictures with his phone. it kind of opened up a hornet's nest for us. >> reporter: they found videos of word and young women. >> we're told some of the girls are from bensalem, and some of the girls are maybe from bristol township. >> reporter: the youngest woman identified so far is 14 years old. ward was a firefighter at the time. he resigned over the weekend. according to court documents he was bragging about the videos on his cell phone. police say this is a case that should serve as a major warning. >> i've been doing this 30 years. to think he shows this to someone else is very unlikely. >> reporter: police say that there are multiple cases that they can point to in which those photos and videos from cell phones wind up online. reminding teenagers that once they're out there, they're out there for life. deanna durante, nbc 10 news. deanna, thank you.

tonight a philadelphia police officer's recovering from his injuries after he was run down by an alleged drunk driver. this is new surveillance video. it shows the moment of impact. it happened during a traffic stop along busy main street in manyark. what have you learned here, randy? >> reporter: thanks to a good samaritan, police were able to quickly track down that suspect. in the past 90 minutes or so, we got his name and his mugshot. and all the charges he's facing after police say he ran over an officer here on main street and then ran away. 21-year-old collin murphy sits in the back of a squad car accused of driving drunk, and leaving the scene of an accident. police say he sped down the busy main street and nearly killed a philadelphia cop. nbc 10 obtained this surveillance video showing that police sergeant working a traffic stop. he's standing on the side of the road with flashing lights, but then out of nowhere, the

suspect's rav 4 side swipes the sergeant. his hat and his shoes go flying. and police say his body was propelled 15 feet down the road employees at the late night pizza shop heard the collision, then saw the sergeant lying in the middle of the intersection. >> when they came out, they see the police officer on the ground screaming. >> reporter: the impact so powerful, his shoes went flying. he suffered a broken collarbone, and head injuries. police say that drunk driver then hit the gas and might have gotten away if it weren't for a good samaritan, a local tow truck driver from todd's towing saw the hit-and-run happen, followed the suspect and helped the police make the arrest. >> watched what happened, and own up to what he did. >> reporter: here on main street, business owners say it's not uncommon to see drivers speeding down the hill. >> it's pretty crazy, because there's a lot of people outside, coming out of restaurants, clubs, and other stuff.

the humidity is really high. and it feels like 89 now. it felt like it was in the 90s an hour ago. feels like 92 in dover. that's with the clouds. imagine how it's going to feel tomorrow. i'll tell you how it's going to feel tomorrow. it's going to be 94 degrees for the high temperature, and feeling like around 100 in philadelphia. and probably more than 100 in parts of delaware and south jersey. tonight it's the humidity that's the issue. we don't have anything on the satellite and radar close by, so it's going to be dry. but the humidity is up there. and that's going to cause the low temperatures not to drop below 70 degrees. remember, we were in the 50s a couple of nights ago. a tremendous difference. we'll let you know when things might return closer to normal in a few minutes. >> glenn, thank you. tonight we're getting a new look at the devastation in italy. as more aftershocks rattled the region hit by a deadly earthquake. the drone footage you're about

to see shows the extent of the damage. damage. look at the flattened homes. this is on a hillside in one of the hardest hit towns in central italy. the death toll rose to 250 today. the number of injured stands at 365. today an aftershock with a today an aftershock with a magnitude of 4.# caused the collapse of more buildings damaged by the initial tremor. that 6.2 magnitude quake struck early wednesday morning. it comes seven years after central italy's last major earthquake. that tremor killed more than 300 people. we spoke to the chairman and ceo of the national american-italian foundation. he said wednesday's disaster doesn't compare to what happened in 2009. >> a vision i'll never forget. we were in a town where they were still exhuming bodies. that's something you never want to experience. you could feel the death in the streets. it was a very, very sad day. >> oddly enough, the 2009 earthquake also struck around 3:30 a.m.

meaning most people were sound asleep. nbc nightly news will have the latest on the devastation coming up at 6:30 right after this newscast. this just in now. the pennsylvania senate will reconvene this sunday for a vote to possibly name the new state's attorney general. governor tom wolf has nominated bruce beemer to take over the seat. he was once a high-ranking aide to kathleen kane. she was convicted of leaking grand jury investigation and then lying about it under oath. new at 6:00, a septa employee is in jail accused of stealing more than half a million dollars worth of parts from trains and cars. prosecutors say kyle allen of langhorn stole more than 500 batteries, 260 catalytic converters, spools of wire and other electrical components. police say he hit septa stations across three counties, including

plymouth township, upper darby and philly. he allegedly sold the material to scrap yards. he's due in court next month. the pennsylvania chapter of black lives matter has delayed a planned protest at radio station planned protest at radio station 95.5 fanatic scheduled for tomorrow. the controversy involves a white sports talk producer who pretended to be a stereotypical black caller. the black lives matter groups said it has a meeting with station management that will determine when and if the protest happens. decision 2016 coverage. donald trump making a push for the minority vote with the help of a former rival. dr. ben carson met with trump in new york today with young african-american and hispanic republicans. republican nominee said he will continue to emphasize outreach to the black community. trump also said he'll outline his immigration and enforcement policy in the coming days. on the other side, hillary clinton campaigned out west

today, telling supporters in nevada that trump, quote, built his campaign on prejudice and paranoia. clinton has been painting trump as a racist. as he works to win over minority voters. a new poll out today has clinton with a double-digit lead over trump. right now she has 51% of likely voters compared to trump's 41%. clinton's running mate making a push across pennsylvania next week. senator tim kaine will pay a visit to erie and lancaster tuesday. lehigh valley on wednesday. speaking of stops, vice president joe biden will be in our area tomorrow. the vp will speak at the railroad station at wilmington, which bears his name. he's scheduled to announce new investment in rail service that will benefit amtrak, and underscore the importance of investing in our nation's transportation infrastructure. officers canvassing a neighborhood trying to find the

olympic swimmer ryan lochte will be summoned to testify at a hearing in front of the brazilian justice department, coming in the wake of his k4r5i78 that he and three teammates were robbed at gun point in rio earlier this month. if lochte is summoned and doesn't show up to the hearing, the process will continue without him until the final sentence. if he doesn't show up to court, he will be charged by the public prosecutor and likely convicted. today nbc 10 learned a delaware mother was feet from finishing a ziplining course when she slipped from the platform and fell to her death. investigators say she made one crucial mistake. nbc 10's delaware bureau reporter tim furlong asked the questions to find out what happened. >> reporter: on facebook, tina werner's daughter said her 59-year-old mom died trying to cross ziplining off her bucket list. >> her hearts go out to her family. this is a tragedy. >> reporter: it's closed today out of respect for the family. they're investigating what happened wednesday afternoon.

they don't suspect foul play. in a statement to nbc 10 today, she did take the mandatory safety trang. she had completed all but the final zipline. but they say witnesses told them she had disconnected herself from the course's security cabling at the time of her 35-foot fall from the platform. they continue to work with the delaware state park system and law enforcement. >> they will provide us with any information they obtain and hopefully we can determine how this tragedy happened and hope to make it so it does not happen again. >> reporter: i took a look at the 2013 contract with go ape in exchange for setting up shop, the state gets 3% of the revenue. the state makes sure they report injuries, get regular inspections, and carry significant insurance for cases like this one. on page 13 of the contract, it also spells out very clearly that if anything happens at the go ape facility at any time, that includes tragedies like the one they had yesterday, that it's go ape's issue to handle the park system and state of

delaware. they won't be held responsible. tim furlong, nbc 10 news. new at 6:00 from berks county, for the first time in more than four years, teachers in the reading school district will start the new school year with a new contract. it includes pay raises of nearly 3%. the contract also includes a boost on the pay scale for years of experience or service to the district. in exchange, teachers will increase their contributions to their health care plan. also new at 6:00, it has been pointing philadelphia train travelers in the right direction for more than three decades. talking about the ticking departures board at 30th street station. we've all seen it. amtrak plans to replace that iconic board in the terminal with a digitized model. amtrak said the ticking model is now outdated making it difficult to find replacement parts. the train carrier wants to improve the passenger experience with easier-to-read displays. no timetable on when the board will be replaced.

now, your nbc 10 first alert weather. well, it was warm and humid today. it would have been even hotter if there weren't so many clouds. brightening in philadelphia at 84 degrees. 81 with some sunshine starting to peek out in some of the p.a. suburbs. and also, in delaware. so the general trend is for clearing tonight. in some of the neighborhoods in the lehigh valley, we've got 82 degrees in reading, 80 in mckungy. 81 degrees in bethlehem. and in nazareth. so it's warm, but nowhere near as hot as it's going to be. these are the projected temperatures for the next week-plus in philadelphia. the average high is 84. we don't get that until labor day weekend. and with all of those 90s, plus all the 90s we already had, we're projecting to be the hottest august ever recorded in philadelphia by the time the

month ends. the clouds are ending, clearing skies coming in from central pennsylvania, western pennsylvania. but that's not going to allow the temperature to drop very much tonight, because the humidity is so high. when it's real humid, the temperature doesn't drop much. so here we are at 6:30 in the morning, still 73 in reading. 75 in trenton. atlantic city and philadelphia. of course, not going to take much to get temperatures into the 90s. by 5:00, 93 in philadelphia. 92 in wilmington. 92 in trenton. hot and steamy afternoon. now, it's still going to be hot over the weekend, but not quite as hot or humid as tomorrow will be. philadelphia pretty close to the 90-degree mark. at the jersey shore, get some sea breeze, so it won't be too hot. it's going to be hot at the jersey shore tomorrow, 90 with the land breeze. but not so much over the weekend. still watching the tropics, and

the system approaching the bahamas. very disorganized. we can still see there is a low pressure center there. and if thunderstorms start developing around that, then it's got a chance of developing, and turning into a named storm, or even a hurricane. chances are that won't happen in the next couple of days. perhaps once it gets into the gulf of mexico, and then it could strengthen and things could start becoming a problem. no problem in the poconos this weekend. sunshine, 82 degrees. not a whole lot of humidity. it is just beautiful. and there's the jersey shore, dropping from 90, to 84, to 81 as the sea breeze increases over the next couple of days. and you can see a basically dry pattern, too. coming up next, another piece of the phillies 2008 world series team departs. but it's not a big piece. and what doug pederson is
