the next big event coming to the city of brotherly love. nbc 10 news starts now. streets turned into rivers. that's the situation in florida tonight. and that same system is heading our way. impacting our labor day weekend. good evening. i'm jacquelyn london. >> and i'm jim rosen. call her mean hermine. take a look at what she is doing across the tampa bay area. this car stalled out and was carried into a ditch. several streets had to be closed down. residents at this apartment complex were evacuated after a pond near the complex spilled over and ran right into several apartments >> oh, my gosh, this is the first time i've ever been through anything like this. i am petrified. i've heard that my apartment's under water and i've come home to get my animals. in near by pasco, they spent

the day handing out sandbags. meteorologist sheena parveen is tracking what we could see in our area. >> here's the latest on tropical storm hermine. it has increased in intensity from this afternoon and is sustained at 60-mile-per-hour winds, it is becoming a stronger tropical storm and could be a weak category hurricane or strong tropical storm by the time it makes landfall along the pan handle of mexico. still along the gulf of mexico. a lot of rain still across florida, a lot of heavy tropical rain. now here is a look at the updated storm cone from the national hurricane center. it will make landfall along the florida panhandle, maybe as a weak category one hurricane, then it will continue traveling up the eastern seaboard, so very similar to the track we showed you earlier this afternoon if you were watching, which would put the maybe remnants of it day

point, which could be fairly strong, in our area, by sunday. so sunday would be the main day when we would see the worst conditions across part of the area. but notice how the storm cone gets wider the farther you go in time. it could travel any where within that cone. as we get into the weekend heal we -- we'll have more specifics. sunday is going to be the day where we expect the heaviest rain, the gustiest winds, especially at the shore, that's where we expect the highest winds. monday we'll start to see the rain clearing out gradually, but it will still be a windy day. in the meantime, before we get to your weekend, tomorrow morning, make sure you have the umbrella. we could see showers around for the morning commute, and you may want to hold onto it through the afternoon. we'll take a closer look at that plus a closer look at your weekend weather changes. we'll make sure you stay ahead of the rain with our app. our meteorologists are

reaching out to hispanic voters. kaine stopped in the lehigh valley and visited this community center in bethlehem. in an interview with our spanish station he says he hopes trump uses his mexico trip to educate himself. >> donald trump has evidenced great disrespigot for mexispect. and he needs a little education. >> he went on to say his words and actions have been frightening to hispanics. and he didn't expect to hear a change in tone in tonight's speech. new at 11:00, a murder charge is dropped against a philadelphia mom whose child was shot to death back in june. a drum dropped the third degree murder charge against sha-kia holmes. investigat investigators believe her child shot herself with a gun she found in the closet.

a few people, they're excited to show what philadelphia has to offer. on the way to a phillies game at citizens bank ballpark, we asked fans about football. the 2017 nfl draft to be exact. we broke the news to a few people about philadelphia's next big get. >> i think it's great for the city. anything that brings awareness about our beautiful city. >> i think it shows that the city has come a long way since where we were maybe 30 years ago. >> reporter: since last year, philly has had a lot of time on the national stage, including a ncaa tournament and dnc at the wells fargo center. looking at the break down of the draft's impact on chicago in 2015, city leaders, tourism groups and businesses have a lot to be excited about. the 2015 draft created 2,000 temporary job, 800 permanent jobs and brought 800,000 people

a lot of people are coming in from new york and pennsylvania. let's focus on the crucial labor day weekend forecast. >> we're really listening to sheena parveen with the first alert neighborhood weather. >> we knew there was going to be an increased risk for rip currents along the shore this weekend, but now we're dealing with wind and rain because of tropical storm hermine. the change in the track of this storm, it all kind of came about today. models were picking up on it. now we have the tropical storm. it was named this afternoon. it has increased since this afternoon in intensity. so it is getting stronger here, still in the gulf of mexico. a lot of heavy rain in florida. and the tropical train is going to make its way into this week. now as we go into thursday and friday, it's going to make landfall somewhere in the panhandle of florida, then a lot of forecast models are all in agreement that it's going to move up the eastern say boareabd

impact our area. the cone as we go further out in time gets wider because of uncertainty. this would put it mainly on sunday, across our labor day weekend, even if it goes on the farthest right of this cone, we're still going to be impacted by it. we expect windy, rainy conditions for your weekend. we have made the weekend changes cooler. here are the weekend changes we've made in the forecast. temperatures in philadelphia saturday and sunday, mid to upper 70s. late day rain sunday. if you're lheading to the shore expect it to be in the mid-70s with wind and rains. the rainiest day will be sunday across the area, mostly in new jersey and delaware at this point. by monday we would see the rain move away. a nicer day, temperatures in the mid-80s. so some big changes to start to plan around. of course as we get closer to the weekend, this will start to get more specific. you want to stay tuned right here. we have updates coming, four times a day, especially with the

hurricane center sending out the treks. so we'll be showing them right here. the dangerous rip currents will still be a threat. moderate to high risk and rough seas, expect this saturday through monday as well. now here's another forecast model. one of the more reliable ones. there you siee that tropical storm. and sunday, that's the highest wind, heaviest rain, that's going to be out of the weekend, the day where we see conditions deteriorate the most. now i mentioned a lot of computer models agree, here they all are. and a lot of them pretty much sticking together. and moving into our area for the middle of your labor day weekend. now in the meantime, until we get there, we do have rain in the forecast for tomorrow. here's 9:00 a.m. for your thursday, your morning commute. i think parts of the area will run into morning showers. make sure you have the umbrella. we can see some lasting through the afternoon. this is 5:30.
