the family of a police officer shot in the line of duty. >> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. a fight leads to shots fired inside a philadelphia police officer's home. the victim is the officer's relative, and he's in critical condition. good evening. i'm jacqueline london. the shooting happened inside the house on taunton street in northeast philadelphia. nbc 10's brandon hudson joins us live. brandon, police will only say the officer's gun went off. >> reporter: that's right, jacqueline. but they won't say how it fired. that officer is being questioned. detectives are in front of his house. you can see them right there. the crime scene unit is here. that means forensic investigators are inside the house as we speak. police say this started as an argument and then escalated quickly. philadelphia police cars and crime scene tape surrounded a home on taunton street where nbc

10 learned an off-duty cop's family member was shot. police say it began as an argument between the relative and an officer around 6:30 this evening. >> during this altercation the weapon was discharged at least twice. >> reporter: the sound of gunfire and police response quickly got the attention of neighbors who watched as investigators checked out the northeast philly home. >> i was in basement eating finishing up. i came outside and i saw cop cars all over the place. and i heard noises. i didn't think they were gunshots. >> reporter: nicholas morrow says knew both men involved. he says the police officer was a good neighbor. >> he was a really good guy, nice it talk to. nice personality. i didn't really think this would have happened ever. >> reporter: at last check the relative who was shot is in critical but stable condition. philadelphia police aren't identifying the off-duty officer. only saying he works with the 15th district. >> no one's being charged at this point in time with anything.

>> reporter: now, the gun used in this weapon is the off-duty weapon, and investigators say it was the officer's gun. but again say that the gun only went off when it was fired at the victim. police have not said if the relative lived at this home behind me. live in northeast philadelphia, i'm brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. he. septa regional rail passengers are bracing for the biggest crowds since septa's slowdown began earlier this summer. that's because many people are heading back to school and work tomorrow. septda's hoping to ease the congestion by running buses between 6:30 and 8-30 a.m. and 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at some of its busiest hubs. the chestnut hill and manioc north town lines are among those with bus service. >> it might go well. or it could go bad too. all depends on how many people there are. >> septa pulled more than 100 of its defective regional rail cars from service more than two months ago. the agency says it plans to be back on a regular weekday

police officer shot over the weekend. tonight officer josh lee vadel's condition is improving. his family issued a statement. "i want to thank the office lower was partnered with josh. without him josh may not have made it and those responsible may never have been brought to justice." he was shot early sat morning near the caesars parking garage. he and his fellow officer saw three men robbing another group when the suspects started firing at officers. one of the suspects was shot and killed by his partner. the two other men, martial chisholm and demetrious cross, were later arrested. and new at 11:00, one little girl is trying to raise money for the injured officer. addison couple set up a lem 2345id stand on lee point road to help raise money for officer videl. this picture was sent to nbc 10 by her mother. she raised more than $252 today.

young addison will be at it tomorrow afternoon and along with lemonade she'll also be selling pasta and meatballs. to decision 2016 and the battle for the buckeye state. as donald trump and hillary clinton hit the campaign trail in ohio, their planes were briefly parked just across from one another on the tarmac at the cleveland airport. for the first time since launching her bid for the white house, hillary clinton invited reporters to join her on her new campaign plane. she took questions from the group and told them she's concerned about the russian government interfering in our elections. today clinton also appeared at a labor day rally in cleveland with her vp nominee tim kaine. she had a bit of a coughing fit during the event and told the crowd "every time i think about trump i get allergic." tomorrow hillary clinton campaigns in the battleground state of florida. donald trump allowed a handful of journalists on his plane today after clinton invited reporters on hers. he said he's not ruling anything out when it comes to his policy

about undocumented immigrants. the republican nominee said he'll make that decision in the future. trump had a busy day in ohio visiting a state fair near youngstown and eating lunch with union workers in cleveland. trump and clinton face off this wednesday. watch the first commander in chief forum hosted by the "today" show's matt lauer at 8:00 right here on nbc 10. the white house is calling off a scheduled meeting between president obama and filipino president rodrigo duterte. the two were set to meet in laos this week. the president of the philippines curse odd bama during a news conference when he was told president obama planned to confront him on his country's handling of drug dealers. instead officials say the president, who's in china for the g20 summit, will meet with korea's president. obama called the philippines a close friend and ally of the united states. i'm drew smith. hermine may have spoiled some people's holiday, but mobile businesses now have a plan to cash in as temperatures soar.

hermine created a cruise to remember. the anthem of the seas arrived in bermuda today. the ship left bayonne, new jersey saturday and had to sail around hermine to get to its destination. one passenger says a lot of people were getting sick from the rough seas. crowds in delaware and the jrzy shore were smaller than normal this weekend because of hermine. but the weather is changing. nbc 10's drew smith explains why

businesses expect crowds rushing back to the beaches. >> reporter: the sun put on a show as it set behind atlantic city tonight. the end of labor day but not necessarily for the fun times at the jersey shore. >> it's like the perfect time to come. >> reporter: they're still scooping ice cream at richmond's in brigantine and customers like joshua mccoy don't plan on going anywhere soon. >> i love it out here. it's nothing -- no better place to be. you know? summer at the shore. >> reporter: and if better weather isn't enough incentive, people are set to save some money in the coming days. there are rentals abound and plenty of 50% off everything signs at the beach stores. >> these are all of our customer-made paddleboards. >> reporter: primal surf shop is one of the few places hermine may have actually helped as surfers are still enjoying some good waves. the owner expects september to be a strong month. >> we have great waves. he with still have warm water.

the weather is usually really nice. >> reporter: the frisch family just arrived today for a week-long stay. they're already pleased with the timing of this year's summer vacation. >> it's very quiet. peaceful. relaxing. we were a little bit scared because of the weather. but it seems we couldn't have picked a better day to be here. >> reporter: one store owner describes the beautiful weeks after labor day as the best-kept secret at the shore. though this year may be the time that secret gets out. in brigantine i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. >> i think it's out now. all right, drew. with more on this expected heat wave let's go to nbc 10's first alert meteorologist sheena parveen. sheena. >> yeah, jacqueline, it is go to get much hotter as we go through this week, and we're going to be staying mostly drew too. so that's good news. tomorrow morning starts school for many kids across the area. comfortable for the first day of school at the bus stop in the morning through the afternoon. it will be breezy but also dry, and temperatures will be in the

mid up toer 80s. comfortable day tomorrow. along the shore it's still going to be windy. we still have hermine offshore. we're still going to call for the dangerous rip currents through tomorrow evening. so just keep that in mind if you are at the shore. more heat, though, in the forecast later this week. the 90s do come back. look at the 70 right at the bottom of your screen. you'll see that. they're going to last a art of your weekend too. here's a look at your radar. the rain you see right off you are our coastline, that's hermine, and some sprinkles may be trying to move into parts of ocean county but for the most part tomorrow the rain's going to mainly stay off offshore. i wouldn't be surprised tomorrow if we did see a couple light showers. shouldn't be a big deal. the main concern will still be the rip currents. in case you're wondering hermine is still well offshore. going to mostly be a storm for parts of new england but it's not expected to last too much longer here. it's just going to fizzle out soon. rip current threat. there you see at the jersey shore, delaware beach is still a high risk for rip currents. you really don't want to be swimming in this type of weather.

through tomorrow evening. and then we'll be watching for potentially a threat on wednesday. but either way a skywise the weather's going to really start to improve along the shore too. here's your forecast for tomorrow. philadelphia area fairmont coming in 85 degrees. if you're in the pennsylvania suburbs, langhorn 87 degrees. reading in the upper 80s. allentown about the mid 80s. we'll have a breezy north wind tomorrow. so we could see gusts as high as 25 miles an hour. kind of a broozy dee but mostly dry. if you're in robinsville in new jersey 85 degrees. longport 81. the red exclamation points here still indicate we do have that rip current risk. avalon 86 degrees. if delaware tomorrow right around 88 degrees. wilmington umming in around 85 for your high tomorrow. here's future weather. it sees hermine offshore, sees the rain from it. keeps spinning it around and there you see the rain just off our coastline. and that's tomorrow at 11:30 in the morning. i think only the shore points

could see some cloud cover from this. maybe the chance of a shower. there is tomorrow night. the storm eventually continues to move away. and by wednesday afternoon we'll be dry. so wednesday's going to be a nice day. but then we have a couple showers that might try to move in very late wednesday night. thursday's going to be a dry, mostly dry day as well. and that's when temperatures will start to go up. take a look at what we expect with our temperatures. advertised 82 degrees this time of the year. for today we got to 86. tomorrow we'll still be in the mid to upper 80s. wednesday, thursday, friday, though, that's when we will be back in the 90s. the 90s will continue. this is going to be ten degrees or more boff normal for this time of the year, and so far it does look to last into at least part of your weekend. so we're looking at summer-like weather even though summer has unofficially come to an end. it's still going to definitely feel like it later on this week. coming up we'll take a look at your ten-day forecast and take a look at that weekend. >> all right, sheena. up next hear from the eagles head coach about their new
