latest. >> it is still spinning off our coastline, slowly trying to move back in our direction. it's not going to move on land, but as it does so and gets a little bit closer, the winds will be increasing a little bit today and we could see some showers along some of our shore points. they're not going to swing farther inland, though. here's a live look, a little bit closer. here you see those areas of clouds moving into ocean county. and we could see some rain around later on today. but the other big threat that this is still causing for us is the rip current threat. this is going to go through this evening. the entire jersey shore, the delaware beaches, high risk of rip currents, rough seas. so if you are still at the shore today, this is not a day where you want to be getting in the water. conditions through the rest of the area, pretty nice. 81, philadelphia. 83 degrees in wilmington. our shoretowns, though, right around 80 at the moment. 80 degrees, ocean city. 82, cape may courthouse. if you're in mullica township, 78 degrees. 79, atlantic city. so today is going to be a really nice day for most of the area. just a little bit breezy as

hermine gets a little bit closer. coming up, though, we do have some 90s in the forecast for the area, so we will be seeing a stretch of 90s as we go through later on this week. take a look at all of our cameras, though. pennsylvania suburbs, a few clouds around philadelphia. some cloud cover there, as well. if you're farther inland, you're seeing plenty of sunshine and most of the area staying mostly dry. coming up, we'll take a look at the heat coming back. it's going to feel once again like summer. that forecast plus your weekend forecast, coming up. >> well, hermine is expected to bring more pounding waves and beach erosion as it churns off new york and southern new england. swimming was banned, tourists stayed away. residents were just glad hermine stayed offshore. >> i pretty much felt relieved like early this morning. i was like, we missed it, thank god. >> the threat of strong winds and rip currents continue at the jersey shore, as we've been saying, as hermine continues to move closer to the coast, as sheena was just saying. strong winds from hermine made

fighting this house fire in rhode island more difficult last night. the flames were intense, consuming the large beach house. you can see the wind pushed the flames and the fire hoses around. no one was at home at the time. back here at home, septa faces a new challenge today from a new wave of commuters and a still-depleted fleet. more schools are heading back to school and more people are heading back to work after summer vacations. riders have been adjusting to modified regional rail schedules. repairs to defective trail cars are still underway right now, but now schedules begin today. you may see some changes to your line, you might not. the moedia/elwin, lansdale/doylestown, manayunk/norristown all have new schedules today. >> it's going to be a lot more people, soy hope they ramp up their actual schedules. today i thought the train was coming in at 11:15 and it's here

festival stuff is cleaned up already, out in the fairmont section. earlier this morning, parts of kelly drive, we're still closed down now. we're back open and back in business. tracy? >> jessica, thanks. sky force 10 over the scene of an accident involving a dump truck that crashed into a delaware county home around 8:00 this morning. people in the house on garfield road and media, but no one was hurt. the truck just dinged up the house. no serious damage. happening today, comedian bill cosby will return to a montgomery county courtroom for a hearing in his sexual assault case. nbc 10's monique braxton is live outside the montgomery county courthouse in norristown. monique, what do we expect to learn during today's hearing? >> reporter: hey, tracy. since we last talked to you this morning, barricades have gone up here outside the courthouse. we've also seen sheriff's deputies making the rounds on bicycles. two things could happen today. a trial date could be set and a judge could rule on whether key evidence may be used against bill cosby. the now-79-year-old cosby, who

last appeared here in may, is accused of drugging and molesting andrea constand, a woman he mentored at temple university. you may recall, cosby was on the board of trustees there at the time. his defense team, led by attorney brian mcmoneygall, will attempt to keep two pieces of key evidence out of court. cosby's testimony in a civil lawsuit when he acknowledged giving accuser constand pills during what cosby calls a consensual sexual encounter. the second item cosby's team doesn't want the jury to hear is a secretly recorded phone conversation with constand's mother, when cosby described the sexual encounter with her on the phone, of course. no doubt, prosecutor kevin still will fight to see or try to see that the contents of the call and the civil deposition will be exposed during trial. cosby faces three counts of aggravated indecent assault. he's pleaded not guilty, as you

know. dozens of women have accused the comedian called america's father of rape or sexual assault since then. he's denied those allegation as as well. we've also learned that cosby is due to arrive here at the courthouse in about hour. make sure tough nbc 10 app in place, because we'll be pushing out alerts as soon as we know the judge's decision. live in norristown, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. >> monique, thanks for that. the two men accused of shooting an atlantic city police officer face arraignment today. marquell chisholm and demetrius cross will go before a judge at 1:30. they were arrested on saturday after police saw three men holding up a group of people near the cesar's parking garage. that's when gunfire broke out. the third suspect was shot and killed by police. meantime, the offer is in critical but stable condition. officer josh lee badel was shot around 2:00 in the morning.

more information regarding an off-duty chicago police officer and his teenage son. that 19-year-old is in critical condition after the shooting yesterday at the officer's home on tonton street in northeast philadelphia. police say the officer and his son got into a scuffle and somehow the gun went off. police say there are still a lot of questions about what exactly happened, but there are two witnesses, including another young son of the officer. >> the key thing is going to be the other witnesses. the girlfriend, i don't know how much the little enjoy is going to be able to provide. but you have a girlfriend that was in the house. it's not just the statement of the father, the police officer, and the son. you have somebody else, another witness in the home. >> the officer was already off the street because of an injury on the job. he is not charged. his name will be released within 72 hours under police department rules. philadelphia police have just released surveillance of a man they think is behind at least two robbers in the past week. the first happened thursday at a citgo gas station on ridge avenue.

police say it's the same man in this video of a robber at a dunkin' donuts on north broad street friday. if you recognize the man in the video, call police. the company that runs itt technical institute just announced this morning that it is shutting down all of its campuses. thousands of employees will lose their jobs. this comes after the government banned the for-profit school chain from enrolling students who use federal loans to pay for classes. itt tech has 130 campuses nationwide. four of them in our area, including philadelphia, bucks, montgomery, and burlington counties. it's the first day of school for kids across our region today. camden county school started this morning. nbc 10 at manchin elementary, a lot of smiles from parents as they usher the children back for a new year. >> good morning! >> a similar scene outside ch t

now to decision 2016. a new poll this morning shows hillary clinton continues to keep her six-point lead over donald trump. the nbc news/survey monkey poll shows clinton has 48% support compared to trump's 42%. those are the same numbers as last week. both candidates are now in a crucial period of campaigning in key swing states in these last two months ahead of selection. the poll shows clinton continuing to do well in the northeast and west. trump remains competitive with her in the midwest and in the south. in ohio yesterday, hillary clinton had trouble talkinging during a stop in cleveland.

[ coughing ] >> every time i think about trump, i get allergic. >> clinton has suffered from coughing fits for months. after the event, campaign aides blamed it on allergies. today she'll be campaigning in the battleground state of florida. donald trump also focusing on battleground states today. he'll be in north carolina, where he's down in the polls. there are just two months to go in the campaign, as we've said. both trump and clinton were in ohio yesterday. at one point, both of their planes sat next to each other on the runway. trump confirmed that he plans to participate in all three debates. and trump is praising phyllis schlafly. trump called her, quote, a patriot, a champion for women, and a symbol of strength. she helped defeat the equal rights amendment in the '70s and founded the right wing eagle forum. he endorsed trump in march, and

co-authored a book called "the conservative case for trump" which is being released today. trump and clinton face off tomorrow for the first time. you can watch the commander in chief forum hosted by matt lauer at 8:00 right here on nbc 10. well, resorts along mexico's baja peninsula are bracing for now hurricane newton. the tourist resort of cabo san lucas boarded up windows and secured items that could be picked up by the winds. southwestern states could see some heavy rainfall from the storm later this week. well, we are still watching hermine spinning off our coastline. it's not going to move inland, but it's still causing dangerous rip currents around the area today. the jersey shore, the delaware beaches, through this evening, dangerous rip currents and rough seas. if you are still out there at the beaches, make sure you don't really go not water past your knees or waists. i know a lot of lifeguards are

warning about that. the dangerous rip currents will continue. 90s return as we go into this week. once hermine moves farther away, our temperatures will start to warm up quite a bit and it will be feeling like summer, even though the unofficial end to summer is already here, it's still going to feel and look like summer. today, 87 degrees, mostly sunny through philadelphia. tomorrow, around 90. thursday, mid-90s. it is going to get hot this week. pennsylvania suburbs today, mid-80s, sunny, wednesday, near 90. thursday, temperatures around 93 degrees. if you're in the lehigh valley, you'll be sunny today. temperatures in the mid-80s. upper 80s tomorrow. by thursday, you'll look at the low 90s for a high. new jersey, mid- to upper 80s over the next couple of days and we are at 93 on thursday. if you're at the shore, today, you could see a shower maybe later on this afternoon from hermine, just getting a little bit closer to us. wednesday, i think the chance is much less, by thursday, we could be near 90 at the shore. and in delaware, near 90 tomorrow. mid-to-low 90s as we go into thursday. as we go through the weekend,

though, we will be a little bit cooler by sunday. so the heat, the 90s pb that will be lasting into the standard of your weekend. by sunday, a bit of a different forecast with a little cooldown. here's a look at hermine right now. it is still offshore. you can see some of the rain with it, but locally, if you're at the shore, you may be seeing the cloud cover increasing. that's mostly for ocean county right now. but this will get a little bit closer later on today. and that's when we could see some showers swing in. but it's going to get breezier as it gets a little closer, but then it's going to move away. there is hermine currently. it's giving us that north-northeast wind, slightly drier conditions. temperatures are still going to be warm today, but look at the wind speeds. 22-mile-an-hour winds at atlantic city. 14 in mt. holly. 18 in philadelphia. especially closer to the shore, later today, you'll notice the winds increasing with hermine getting a little bit closer. right now, we're already warming up to 81 in philadelphia. 82, delaware. mid- to upper 70s throughout our pennsylvania suburbs.

checking out our nbc 10 headlines this morning, a judge could set bill cosby's trial date during a hearing this afternoon. cosby is expected to hear at the courthouse in norristown for an evidence hearing. cosby is accused to have drugging and molesting a woman he mentored at temple university in 2004.

date could be set, and his attorneys will know if the evidence could be admissible in the sexual assault case against p him. the 79-year-old cosby was last seen in may and pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting andrea constand. they want his testimony given during a civil lawsuit suppressed. under oath, cosby acknowledged giving her pills during what he calls a consensual sexual encounter. one year later, constand's mother secretly recorded a conversation with the comedian. in that phone conversation, cosby described in sexual encounter. prosecutor kevin steel will fight to use both the contents of that phone call and the civil deposition during trial. we've also learned that cosby is due to arrive here outside the courthouse here this afternoon, so make sure you have nbc 10 apps as well as your smartphones, close by, because we're going to be pushing out alerts as soon as we know the judge's decision. live in norristown, monique

braxton, nbc 10 news. >> monique, thank. this morning, president obama announced that the u.s. is giving laos $90 million over three years. the money will go to remove unexploded bombs from the vietnam war. the president also met with the president of south korea this morning. he promised the u.s. will work with allies to toughen sanctions on north korea after the latest missile launches, but he also said there is room for dialogue in north korea changes direction. this is video north korea says shows its latest missile launch. south korea says the north fired three suspected medium-range missiles yesterday. japan says the missiles landed in its territory in the sea of japan. and take a look at this cargo ship fire in japan. a police boat found the flames causing from the ship overnight. for travelers, a computer glitch at british airways causes long lines at airports around

the world. passengers were unable to check in because of the system-wide problem. long lines formed in atlanta, seattle, and phoenix. so far, philadelphia is not affected. the airline says its tech people are working to fix the problem and has apologized to passengers for the delay. congress gets back to work today. lawmaker return from their seven-week recess. they have a long to-do list to do when they return. items include funding for the government, funding to help combat the zika virus. presidential politics are expected to impact what's getting done. if anything gets done before lawmakers leave washington again to go home and campaign. two toddlers in georgia are safe after the car they were in was stolen outside a gas station. this is surveillance video. the droouiver of the car walks o the gas station. he left the car orunning with hs twin 1-year-old daughters inside.

police found the car abandoned not far away. both children were still safely in their car seat. cell phone video shows the moments when that group of people knocked over an iconic rock formation on an oregon beach. the structure was known as the duck bill. park officials originally said they didn't think the break was caused by humans and that the sandstone pedestal had fallen over because of ache or weather elements. park officials say the incident remains under review and criminal charges are being considered. and in northern california, people are being told to evacuate because of a fast-moving wildfire. the so far saddle fire has multiplied in a matter hours and two buildings have been destroyed. it's moving downhill, making it difficult for firefighters to battle the flames. a dispute between neighbors leaves one tennessee man to go to extremes. neighbors had been feuding for a couple of days, according to police. the final straw was apparently some gunshots fired near the neighbor's home. that neighbor grabbed a backhoe and went to town on the other's

home. >> are come over here at 2:00 in the morning with a dozer and start pushing the house down. >> the suspect is charged with criminal trespass and vandalism. another case of rage gone wrong. this time a florida woman, she's facing charges after setting a car on fire. the 19-year-old thought the car belonged to her ex-boyfriend. nope. wrong car! witnesses saw her leaving on a bike and she was later arrested. well, police in north carolina say reports of a clown trying to lure children into the woods is no joking matter. familyies in this neighborhood n winston-salem say someone dressed as a clown appeared in the woods and offered the children treats on monday night if they would follow him. two children saw the clown and an adult heard him. when police got there, the person was gone. >> clown literally, this clown needs to be caught. i was scared and mad at the same

time. you know, i wanted to get him myself. >> reporter: police are stepping up patrols in the area. similar reports of a clown trying to lure children were reported in south carolina last week. well, later this week, thousands of cyclists will hit the road to ride from the city to the shore. the 37th annual bike ms, city to the shore ride happened the weekend of september 24th and 25th in south jersey and here to tell us more, ms society chapter president, kevin moffett, and kenny silverberg, who lives with ms. thanks for being here. >> thank you. >> first, tell us about the ride. >> we are in our 36th year. we expect more than 8,000 cyclists. we want to raise more than $6.6 million. and we have a 45-mile route, a 25-mile route, there's also the 75 and for those truly in shape people, 100 miles. which on the first day and then another 75 the next day. which is about 175. all of this to say, there's a route for everyone, almost anyone can ride 25 miles.

and regardless of which route you choose, the thing that kpeems like danny and friends and family and people living with ms coming back every year, when you get to the finish line, those thousands of people cheering you in. >> i bet that's so sweet. danny, how many times have you ridden this? >> my fourth time riding this, my fifth in last year wasn't canceled because of the hurricane. it's been a great experience. the first few years after i was diagnosed with ms, i couldn't ride. and once i could, it was a great way to really do something for me and for people with ms who just can't ride. it's a great experience. there's nothing as exhilarating, as kevin said, as driving down that last mile, coming around fifth street and ocean city and driving down with all the people cheering and them announcing your names and it's great. >> a lot of camaraderie, plus you get to tell people who are joining who may not know about ms more about the disease. >> it's a great way to really put ms out there on a platform.

people don't understand, really. they see somebody like me and say, you look great. i might look great and be okay, but there are things that people don't understand that everyone with ms lives with. and that's kind of like what this is all about. it's all about raising money. you know, not only to try to find the cure eventually, but to have people understand that there's places out there like the ms society and there's people that care and there's other things. you just want to keep ahead of your disease. that's really what it is. >> you mentioned all the money raised. can you talk about all the programs that will be funded by the money that gets raised? >> the thing people think about mostly when we think about raising money for something like the ms society is the research. i will say, last year, we were able to contribute more than $50 million towards ms research, but then there's the day-to-day help for people living with ms. because when i started working at the ms society, there were four treatments. now there's 14. unfortunately, those treatments don't work for anyone, and for those they do work for, they

this morning, dozens of children are more prepared for the new school year, thanks to a new summer camp. nbc 10's pamela osborn shows us how a week-long science and technology camp helps get them ready and what you can do to make sure your child gets off to a good start. >> reporter: at camp invention, the focus was on getting kids ready for the upcoming school year by working in teams. >> it's different and unique, so all i can say, is to have fun.

>> reporter: director of programming and education, chase trimmer, says that's the whole point. >> it goes a little bit deeper than just, you know, the hands on. the activities here designed to allow kids to be challenged as they explore. >> exploring solar energy. creating crick-o-bots that utilize the sun's energy to move around the flutter. >> reporter: most of the kids we talked to said they're ready to go back to school, but before they do, we talked to dr. sarah allen about what else they can do to set their kids up for success this school year. >> i always recommend, you have to train your brain, exercise your brain, strengthen your brain. >> reporter: eating healthy and good sleeping habits are essential, doing activities and exercise, she says, also a must. it doesn't stop there. >> mental health is very important, also, when going back to school. so there's some natural anxiety that happens. we really want to make sure kids are expressing those emotions,

learning how to deal with them, and parents can model it, because we have our own anxiety about going back to school or our own work routine. talking about that anxiety and how that feels about and how you cope as a parent and how your kids can cope is really good practice for them going back to school. >> reporter: i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. the housing market may be hot right now, but home builders can't find enough workers to get the job done. the national association of home builders estimates there are about 200,000 unfilled construction jobs at all levels of experience. that's up 81% from two years ago. without enough workers, construction is trailing demand for homes. also, with labor costs rising, builders resorting to making more expensive homes, abandoning the starter market, causing a tight supply of entry-level homes. well, facebook is testing a new feature that shows you status updates you might otherwise miss. reports say there's a box marked "what friends are talking

about." it lists some of your friend's posts at the top of your newsfeeds. well, so labor day may be behind us, but there's still time to enjoy summer barbecues. and who better to throw a barbecue than a celebrated local chef. and it's for a good cause. here to tell us more about it is chef jose garces, he's hosting the third annual garces family barbecue on saturday. thanks for being here. >> thanks for having me. >> tell us about the event. >> this is our third event. it's a summer barbecue. i host it at my farm in bucks county, it's called luna farms. and we raise pun funds for our foundation, and the focus of the foundation is health and education services for the immigrant community of philadelphia. >> tell us about the event a little bit more. who can attend? what are you serving? >> the event is open to the public. i'm welcoming anyone and everyone into my home. >> wow. >> and yeah, we're serving

really great barbecue, from garces catering, we're roasting whole pork butts, we'll have some homemade sausages over a wood charcoal grill. we'll have great burgers that we grind all of the meat ourselves. so the food will be good. tito's vodka will be there, and you'll be able to do your own infusions if you would like. and yeah, you know, the event is free for kids 5 to 12 and we want people to come out and have a good time. there'll be a band. >> and there's activities, too? >> yes, american style, a moon bounce house for the kids. lots of -- i'll be signing cookbooks. yeah, again, it's a great -- like you said, the summer's over, but not fully. we're going to get one more weekend out of it. >> and go back and talk more about your foundation and the work that it does. so the money raised from this barbecue will go toward the foundation? >> will go towards the foundation, which we host. we have two pretty big robust

>> announcer: now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> and it will be feeling more like summer as we go through the rest of the week. temperatures heating up here. here's a beautiful look at rehoboth beach. beautiful career skies in delaware at the beaches. if you're in new jersey along the shore, you have a nice day today. it's a little bit windy, but we could see more clouds moving into the jersey shore later on today. for nchphiladelphia right now, mostly sunny skies. we're at 81 degrees. by 4:00 p.m., expect the mid-80s. . a north wind around 20 miles an hour. it's all because of hermine. it is still offshore. it is moving a little bit closer to us, that's increasing the winds a little bit. and there you see the cloud cover getting a little bit closer to the shore. we could see a shower there later on this afternoon. but that rain wouldn't be moving farther inland. it would mostly be confined to new jersey. right now in delaware, temperatures are mostly in about the mid-to-low 80s, especially in new calve county, 80 degrees.

a little bit farther south, 82, ellendale, and the along the beach in lewis, 78. rehoboth coming in at 79 right now. very comfortable in delaware. but like i mentioned, breezy conditions. mostly north of sussex county, for the most part. dov dover, winds, 18 miles per hour. philadelphia seeing a north wind at 19 miles per hour. and it's going to stay breezy as we go through the afternoon. and it's all because hermine is getting a little bit closer to us. as we go through the afternoon, we could see some showers trying to move into new jersey. later in the day tomorrow, though, we're going to be mostly dry, but we could see some showers just off to our west for your wednesday evening. i don't think it will move through the entire area, though. then we go through thursday. it will be a mostly dry day, especially as we go into friday, too. but temperatures at the same time will be heating up. take a look at the highs today, though. center city, 87 degrees. lansdale coming in at 86 degrees.

allentown, 84. if you're along the shore, keep in mind, we still do have the dangerous rip currents out there. atlantic city, 83. chance of a shower, cape may. hamilton, 85. and if you're in wilmington, high temperatures will be around the mid-80s, mostly sunny. those 90s are coming back into the forecast. today, around 87 degrees, the average high is in the low 80s. we'll be well above this as we go through tomorrow, thursday, friday, and even starting your saturday. temperatures will be in the 90s. so we're looking at that summer weather coming back. and it's going to stick around for a little while, too. the second half of your weekend, though, temperatures will be just a bit cooler. we'll see a little bit of a cooldown by sunday. but in the meantime, it is going to be hot, more humid, and you will definitely notice it. coming up, we'll take a closer look at your ten-day forecast, as we go into this next weekend. and we'll see how long that dry stretch is going to last. that's straight ahead.

school in north philadelphia where philadelphia school officials gathered to unpack new books. it's all part of the right books campaign. the goal is to help every student read on grade level by fourth grade. more than 130,000 books are going to 53 schools through the program. coming up this afternoon, starting at 3:00, on an all-new "ellen," it's olympic champion simone biles plus channing tatum and the "magic mike" dancers. now an update on our top story we'll be following throughout the afternoon. bill cosby is scheduled to return to the courthouse in norristown any minute now for a hearing in the sexual assault case against him. during this hearing, the judge could set a trial date, but also decided will be whether key evidence can be used against cosby. that's the reason for this hearing. the comedian is accused of drugging and molesting a woman he mentored at temple university in 2004. these are the first criminal charges brought against cosby amongst allegations from dozens of women. stay with nbc 10 for your
