sporting events including football, they are canceled as well. philadelphia not the only district dealing with the heat today. reading school district let kids out early. students tell nbc 10 it was unbearable. we have a list scrolling at the bottom of the screen. dealing with school closures or early dismissals, nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking this extreme heat out there. glenn, any relief tonight? >> absolutely not tonight. tonight is going to be a lot warmer than last night was. by tomorrow morning, it's going to be a lot warmer than this morning was. we got up to 91 yesterday. 95 the official high today. we missed the record by only one degree. 95 tomorrow would set a record. 96 on saturday. then we break it for sunday. this extreme heat is not going to last all the way through the weekend. 92 in philadelphia now. 93 in allentown. and 95 degrees in trenton. at this hour, feeling like 101.

while it feels like 98 in mount holly. 106 in dover. that's normally the warmest spot, because the humidity is just so high. here's a live view in abseeken, new jersey, not too far from the shore. but just far enough. you can see the difference. 82 degrees in ventnor. but inland, 93 degrees in mays landing. not that far from abseeken. 90 in woodbine. it's 85 in upper township. 82 degrees at cape may point. the ocean temperature still warm 76. nice weekend to go to the shore. look how warm it is by 6:00 a.m. it's barely below 80 degrees in philadelphia. this is very, very warm night for this time of the year. we're not expecting any kind of showers or storms as we go through the night or into the morning. we'll see if there's any relief in that form and talk about any more significant relief coming up. >> glenn, we'll see you shortly. in the meantime, plan ahead

for the extreme heat with the nbc 10 app. it's a free download to get severe weather alerts and also this weekend's forecast right on your phone or tablet. to this now. who would steal from the dead. tonight nbc 10 looks into cemetery thefts across atlantic county. police recovered hundreds of stolen items and they need your help tonight finding relatives out there. thieves hit in pleasantville, galloway township and that's where we find nbc 10 jersey shore reporter ted greenburg tonight. ted? >> reporter: yeah, jim, this is one of the cemeteries that was hit. you can see how the metal decorative railings are now missing from some of the burial plots. police say how they ended up recovering the stolen items was definitely unexpected. the challenge facing the police detective antonio -- >> it's unbelievable. >> reporter: -- is matching all of these to the final resting spots from which they were stolen. >> we're trying to figure out where it all belongs.

>> reporter: hundreds of decorative railings, engraved stones and other items, some more than a century old. he spotted them yesterday while off-duty outside the home of local antiques dealer bruce dually. >> i was accumulating my inventory to find out what i actually had. >> reporter: police say they've arrested a man and woman who sold it all to dooley's shop over the past couple months. the pair allegedly stole the items from egg harbor city cemetery and two others in pleasantville and galloway township. >> i don't know if we can put everything back, because they can break some stuff. >> reporter: dooley insists he had no idea the items were stolen and the suspects told a convincing story. >> he was cleaning out a barn for a friend of his grandfather's. >> reporter: investigators say the suspects are from galloway township and were likely stealing to feed drug addictions. police have stacks of evidence, but are still short on answers.

>> we don't know how many plots and victims we have at this time. >> reporter: police want to hear from you if any of those items look familiar. dooley said he paid the suspects at least $3,500. he now plans to sue them to get that money back. ted greenburg, nbc 10 news. to decision 2016 now. hillary clinton and donald trump trading jabs again today. >> we have never been threatened as much by a single candidate running for president as we have been in this election. >> clinton tore into trump's national security credentials during a rally in north carolina. the comments follow wednesday's commander in chief forum right here on nbc. chelsea clinton continued her keystone state campaign tour. she visited hillary clinton's campaign office here in scranton. she made a pair of stops in pennsylvania yesterday as well. these are her first public

appearances since the democratic national convention in philly back in july. donald trump, he's still insisting he opposed the war in iraq from the beginning, even though fact checkers said the claim is false. he did so while visiting a cleveland area charter school. >> i opposed going in. and i did oppose it. despite the media saying, oh, yes, no. i opposed going in. and i opposed the reckless way hillary clinton took us out. >> trump's position on the war is coming under increasing scrutiny as he attacks hillary clinton for voting to authorize the war while she was in the senate. clinton and trump were both questioned about their foreign policy plans during last night's forum. so how are their plans sitting with voters? nbc 10's lauren mayk is joining us now with reaction. >> reporter: i talked to multiple voters today who tell me they are still torn. they haven't yet heard what they need to. but for some, the candidates are

confirming their opinions. at the silver diner in cherry hills, ken jones is clear about what he heard last night. >> i don't like trump. i'll tell you that. and last night i think just showed that he knows nothing about foreign policy. >> reporter: jones is a veteran who watched nbc's commander in chief forum. with donald trump -- >> amazing is i have good judgment. i know what's going on. >> reporter: and hillary clinton. >> i view force as a last resort. not a first choice. >> reporter: the forum gave military voters a chance to ask questions. viewers at home got a look at the candidates' foreign policy views. >> they needed to look presidential. and in that, i think they both fell a little short. >> reporter: shauna, assistant professor at rutgers camden, said foreign policy is an element, but now the strongest thing people vote on. but in the event of a terror

attack can change that. >> the big thing to look out for is there are a lot of voters who are still undecided. so that's where a triggering effect might have a real impact. >> reporter: we found undecided voters at the silver diner. how does foreign policy fit into your decision making process? >> it does, but i'm not really as worried about foreign policy as i am about the policy in our country here. economics, just bringing our country back to being whole again. we seem to be so divided. >> reporter: she was having lunch with kim who is also trying to make a final decision. but frustrated with what she's hearing. >> it's the mud slinging back and forth. it's what's really turning me off. >> reporter: last night's forum gave us a taste of what we might see when the candidates take the stage together. the first debate is now less than three weeks away on september 26th. jim? >> lauren mayk, thank you. now to breaking news about

the zika virus in pennsylvania. nbc 10's keith jones in the breaking news center with the very latest. >> in the past ten minutes, the pennsylvania department of health announced the first zika virus infection by sexual transmission in the state. now, according to the department of health, a p.a. resident contracted the virus while outside of the state, then returned home, and transmitted it through sexual intercourse to their partner. the department of health released a statement warning saying, quote, in light of this, we remind the residents to practice safe sex, especially if they've traveled to an area with zika infected mosquitoes, end quote. that's from the department of health. a resident of pennsylvania contracted the virus through sexual intercourse with a partner. that is our breaking news. from the breaking news center, keith jones, nbc 10 news. the atlantic city police officer shot over the weekend is improving tonight. today bidel's ventilator was removed. he's sitting up and talking to

his family. he was shot over the weekend when he spotted a robbery happening near the caesar's parking grablg. one suspect was killed, two others are behind bars. a rude awakening in delaware. a violent home invasion sent two men to the hospital early this morning. it happened in the chelsea estates neighborhood around 3:00 a.m. police tell us one of the men in the home was shot and is in critical condition. a menorah stolen from a philadelphia synagogue last month is back where it belongs this evening. nbc 10 at beth solomon synagogue, captured the video of a man taking it back on august 20th. this morning there was video of someone returning it. new at 6:00, wells fargo hit with a record find today. the government ordered the bank to pay $185 million. that's after sales staff opened more than 2 million unauthorized accounts for customers. 5,300 employees were fired in connection with this case.

down at the jersey shore, firefighters battled flames. in atlantic city, four firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and went to the hospital to get checked out. the apartments are above a food market on bartram and ventnor avenues. two families now need a new place to stay. the reopening of the former revel casino hit another snag today. all over landscaping. the developer went before the casino reinvestment development authority to get final approval to reopen. he tells nbc 10 he got the go-ahead on all the items, but then the authority asked him about landscaping plans.

he walked out of meeting and said it will delay the opening by another six months. pennies, tens of thousands of them, littering i-95 and created traffic backups for hours this morning. a truck headed to the mint, overturned, picking up 40,000 pounds of pennies was not an easy job. tim furlong reports on the headaches for drivers all over northern delaware. >> reporter: commuters in northern delaware should have called out sick today. traffic was brutal. penny for your thoughts? >> it was terrible this morning. everything was backed up. >> reporter: it all stemmed from the crash overnight. i-95 north in new castle shut down after a tractor-trailer rolled over and caught fire at the i-295 split. the truck was carrying 40,000 pounds of unstamped penny blanks up to the mint in philly.

cleanup took over 12 hours. the morning commute was a disaster. >> one employee, it took him two hours to get here, which normally takes 15 minutes. >> reporter: some businesses opened late. customer traffic was down. stores in the area, every major road around 95 was jammed solid. a lot of red lines on the google traffic map. >> they were all backed up. >> no point getting mad at it. it doesn't really help. >> reporter: if you live in the area and know how to cheat your way around on the back roads, you fared a little better. those who aren't from delaware, it was a long morning. >> pain in the butt. >> reporter: there was also gas and oil all over the highway that had to be cleaned up along with the pennies. the company didn't return my call today. the driver of the truck and his passenger had very minor injuries. we'll keep you posted and let you know if the delaware police decide to file any charges once their investigation is complete. nbc 10 news.

speaking of traffic, a sour note could be in store for drivers thanks to two big upcoming concerts. bruce springsteen and adele will both perform tomorrow night at the same time inside the phillies sports complex. avoid that area. traffic jams are expected. adele's concert is sold out at the wells fargo center. the boss plays a second night at citizens bank park. bruce springsteen rocked on for more than 4 hours last night. that broke his previous record for longest u.s. show. the eagles season begins in three days. but the nfl season, it's just hours away now. the eagles hosting a kickoff party at xfinity live tonight. eagles cheerleaders and players will be there to talk to the crowd before the game. a rematch of the super bowl. the carolina panthers playing the defending champs the denver broncos. you can only watch that game right here on nbc 10.

coverage starts at 7:30 tonight. >> oh, boy. football. >> good night to stay inside and watch. good thing the eagles aren't playing at the linc tonight. >> or that they're playing on saturday. because sunday is going to be so much better. >> good. >> it's still not exactly football weather. >> not exactly. >> but what a difference from what we're going to see on saturday. saturday will be another day where we are flirting with record high temperatures, and the high humidity. right now, we're still in the 90s across most of the area. philadelphia 92. p.a. suburbs 91. parts of new jersey 95. we showed you just a little while ago that the heat index, the feels-like temperature was 107, 108 in parts of new jersey. well, it's pretty close to that in parts of delaware, too. newark, 102. harmony hills, 105. that's the way it feels when you add the temperature and humidity. 99 in felton. 105 in dover. 101 in middleford.

and as we head over toward the beaches, lewis, 103. bethany, 102. now, the jersey shore had relief today, but that west wind, delaware, that's not helping at all. we have showers and thunderstorms in northwestern pennsylvania. but so far away, that's not coming here. there was a shower in lancaster county. but even that fell apart. so we can't really talk about rain for tonight. it felt like 100 degrees today. but how long is this going to happen? well, tomorrow, 95, feeling like 102. saturday, 96, feeling like 103. and then we get the break. for the eagles game. and the rest of you on sunday. the records for tomorrow, the record is 94 in philadelphia. i'm predicting 95. so we've got a decent chance of breaking that. and some of these other places, too, mount holly, millville,

very close to records for tomorrow. and we had record warmths last year at this time. here's the way it's going to feel at 10:00 tonight, feeling like it's in the 90s. so it's going to be a warm night, and a warm start to the day. tomorrow afternoon, most places feeling like 100-plus. even at the shore it's going to feel like it's 90-plus. and then on saturday, here we go again. 102, trenton. it's going to be another super hot day. not much chance for rain relief. been pretty dry lately. as we go through tomorrow afternoon, lehigh valley, berks county possibly getting some isolated showers. and tomorrow, somerton, 94, feeling like 99. allentown, feeling like 97.

harrington feeling like 102 degrees. but then we're cooling down a little bit. 86 for the eagles game on sunday. and then even more comfortable monday. high of only 82. low humidity tuesday. finally get a decent chance of some needed rain wednesday. and then look how much cooler it gets for the rest of the week, with next weekend much, much, much cooler than this weekend. i'm amy. better late than never. allen iverson finally arrived for his hall of fame induction tomorrow night. you'll hear from ai on his big honor. plus we're going to see what the eagles have cooking for the big opener on sunday. that's next in sports.
