our nation's history. we'll show you how the victims of 9/11 are being remembered across the nation, but we begin with lauren mayk who was at the linc for the special 9/11 tribute before the eagles/browns game. >> reporter: it is a start of the new football season and eagle fans are looking forward, but today for a few minutes they stopped and looked back at what happened and who we lost 15 years ago. they strolled out to the sidelines hoisting over shoulders and across arms the symbol that would fill the field. >> i mean, it was just like an out of body experience, just holding that flag and having the crowd cheer was just amazing. >> reporter: first responders lined up at lincoln financial field joined by players and vice president joe biden. the pregame tribute marking 15 years since the attacks of september 11th. >> this morning when i looked at the news in new york, i actually

cried a little bit. i go back and feel like i felt 40 years on the fire department. >> reporter: this day brings back memories. >> i'm a retired naval officer 28 years. >> reporter: he tailgated while the flags recognize law enforcement. >> it's a little bit emotional. i lost some folks that i knew in the pentagon because the navy wing is what was hit in the pentagon. >> reporter: back then isaiah burns was just entering the navy. >> we were taken to a room where we saw the second plane crash live on tv. i didn't know what was going on at the time. >> reporter: today they were together as thousands marked the day when here on this field football came second. and the members of the philadelphia fire department i spoke with tell me the vice president also met with them privately shaking each of their hands, giving them a small medallion and thanking them for

when he was killed. in an annual tradition the names of all those killed in the september 11th attacks were read aloud by family members in new york this morning. >> francis joseph callahan. >> liam callahan. >> after the reading of the final name on the list, a musician played "taps." several family members said the loss of their loved ones still felt as if it happened yesterday, not 15 years ago. after holding a private moment of sil nens the oval office, president obama went to the pentagon where he helped place a wreath at the site where 184 people died on 9/11. the president spoke of the monument built to honor the dead adding the most enduring memorial is showing the america that we continue to be. >> and we stay true to ourselves. we stay true to what's best in us, that we do not let others

divide us. >> the president also praised military members and others who have helped the u.s. fight terrorism. ♪ the 40 passengers and crew of flight 93 who died on 9/11 were honored at the crash site in shanksville, pennsylvania. family members and officials expressed gratitude for the everyday heroes who bravely gave their lives to crash the hijacked plane headed for the u.s. capitol. turning now to the eagles and rookie quarterback carson wentz did not disappoint in the season opener. the birds beat the browns here at home. john clark is live at the linc with more on the debuts of went and coach doug peterson. john, that starts with a such a great one today. >> yeah, what an incredible first impression for the rookie

quarterback from north carolina state. carson wentz set an eagles rookie record for a quarterback with the most passing yards in his first game as quarterback. let's take a look at the action against the browns. carson wentz was poised and mature as doug peterson said they weren't surprised after the game. leading the eagles down on the opening drive. look at the perfect mass to jordan matthews in the corner of the end zone. remember that first td of carson wentz' career, 7-0 eagles. take a look at this throw. what a ball to nelson aguilar. two touchdowns for carson wentz. that's 35 yards right there. he finishes with 278 yards. that's an eagles quarterback record in their first game. birds win 21-10. carson said he wasn't nervous, but this was a dream come true. >> we came out and got a great team win. yeah, i think it will hit me now after the game. i've been dreaming about this since i was a kid.

those killed 15 years ago. ♪ whose broad stripes and bright stars ♪ >> people gathered at pennsauken township's noo9/11 memorial to reflect and remember. 2,997 american flags filled the ground, one for each person killed. the community also released doves in their memory. now, your nbc 10 first alert weather. well, it's nice outside right now. temperatures are comfortable. 83 degrees. it's been pretty comfortable all day long. a nice end to the weekend. just some clouds around across center city, but no rain in the forecast. in fact, later on this week, we'll start to warm up even more, but then we're going to get a big drop. you'll see that right with the seven-day scrolling at the bottom of the screen for you. temperatures are in the low 80s for most part. along this shore, pretty steady with temperatures around 80

degrees. off shore winds, 80 ocean city. tomorrow morning, though, it will be cooler than it was this morning. so temperatures will be dropping as we go overnight tonight. for the bus stop tomorrow morning, take a look at these numbers. if you're in allentown, you can be right around 50 degrees. very cool to start your monday. and this is for 7:30 tomorrow morning. philadelphia area around 60 degrees. reading could be around 50 degrees tomorrow morning. by the afternoon, it will still be very comfortable, but we do near 90 degrees again by wednesday this week. so we will be getting hot again. however, we have a cooldown by thursday. so we're going to go up and down a little bit this week. the normal high's 80. today we hit 85. near 90 wednesday. by thursday, we could only be in the upper 70s for an afternoon high temperature. so we'll be seeing quite a change in our air mass throughout the week. here's a look locally.
