and wilmington's mayor has defeated defeat. live team coverage on decision 2016. nbc 10's tim furlong and what this means for the people of wilmington. we begin with nbc 10's brandon hudson live in ashton where trump laid out his child care plan today. brandon. >> jim, at one point this building behind me, you heard one parent yell wow in response to donald trump's child care policy. the republican presidential nominee says he doesn't want moms and dads going broke caring for their kids, and parents we spoke to tonight say they're on board. it was the exclamation point with his message on child care. republican presidential nominee donald trump held up a child from the audience to a crowd of 300. moments later we tracked down the baby's mom, shannon murphy, a working single mother who just enrolled her son in daycare today. >> i just made an $840 payment, which is half of my monthly salary. >> reporter: murphy says trump's

plan for affordable child care can't come soon enough. >> it would be really nice to be able to afford daycare. >> many americans are just one crisis away from disaster. a sick kid, a lost job, a damaged home. >> reporter: with his daughter ivanka by his side, trump talked about his plan, which would provide tax relief for working parents and incentives for businesses to provide daycare options. >> this will assist me with my children, raising them, what program they can go into. >> reporter: cathy barnett was one of several parents who brought her children to trump's private event tonight. she shared this night with her son. >> that's what we're fighting for. >> reporter: hours earlier in philadelphia president barack obama stumped for hillary clinton. obama didn't discuss clinton's child care plan, but stressed the democratic nominee will work for families. >> she'll listen to people, and she will keep her cool, and she treats everybody with respect. >> reporter: now, trump's plan is expected to also help out adoptive foster and stay at home

parents. however, trump did not reveal how they will pay for this plan. that may come at another speech later on this week. on another note, we also found out that the new york attorney general will open an inquiry or has already opened an inquiry on the trump foundation. we'll keep an eye on that latest development. live in aston township, i'm brandon huntsman, nbc 10 news. we want to show you how donald trump's child care plan compares to hillary clinton's. according to an analysis by nbc news, trump would guarantee six weeks of paid maternity leave in the form of unemployment insurance. fathers would not receive leave. clinton's plan guarantees 12 weeks of paid family leave for mothers and fathers with at least two-thirds of their salary. as for child care, trump's plan would allow parents to deduct the cost from their taxes. trump also proposes a dependent care savings account. clinton wants tom cap child care costs at 10% of a family's income. speaking of clinton, she is set to make her return to the campaign trail thursday.

the democratic presidential nominee has scheduled events in north carolina and washington d.c. it comes just days after she was diagnosed with pneumonia. that diagnosis made public after this video showed her nearly collapsing on sunday. her running mate tim cain is among those targeted on the hack. hackers released more documents that appear to show the democratic vice presidential nominee's personal cell phone number. kaine's spokesperson has not commented on the hack. the data dump includes the personal information of top white house officials. earlier today we learned of a hack attack that victimized u.s. olympic athletes. the world anti-doping agency confirmed that its database was hacked and that athletes' medical records were stolen. venus and serena williams, gymnast simone bielles and elen delle donne were among those whose info was compromised. turning now to the delaware

primary tonight. there is a shake-up in the race for mayor of wilmington. the current mayor, dennis williams, will not be holding on to his job. the associated press is calling the race for mike purzycki. as you can see, it was a close race. nbc 10 delaware bureau reporter tim furlong is live at the chase center in wilmington where he is celebrating his win tonight. tim. >> reporter: yeah, jim, you're right, it sounds crazy to say it was an eight-way democratic mayoral primary in wilmington, but that's exactly what we had. the head of the wilmington riverfront corporation, he won the no, ma'mination tonight. his celebration is still underway here. he edged out former councilmember and the delaware center for justice's eugene young. it was close. hundreds of votes. he said he will try to shed the murder count monitor and make it safer, keep businesses here. we get his take tonight on not getting re-elected.

>> we have to bring everybody together. well, that doesn't do it. getting people jobs and working so that we're all living the same kind of existence is how we get people living together, and that's what i want to do. >> i'm going to retire. if the next mayor wants any advice for me, i'm going to roll my sleeves up and help them out because i love this city. >> reporter: lots of interesting races. controversial new county executive has lost his it seat to matt meyer. it got nasty recently. he had a public spat with a former employee. . involved secret recordings. tom gordon is not going to be keeping his job. again, mike comes back and wins the nomination. the democratic nomination for mayor. he is going to face businessman republican robert martin in a general election in november. yeah, it's a big change here in wilmington. they'll be talking about this one in the next few days. what this is all going to mean moving forward. live in wilmington, tim furlong, nbc 10.

now to the race for the u.s. house. former delaware lisa rochester defeated two people with 100% of the results. she got 44% of the vote. rochester will face republican hans rival in the general election. this is video of her victory speech tonight. if she wins in november, she would become the first african-american and the first woman to represent delaware in in congress. in the republican primary for governor state senator colin bonini beat lacey laffertiy in a landslide. he will face john carney in november. carney is serving as the representative in the house. he previously served as lieutenant governor. you can tap the nbc 10 app to see full results from the delaware primaries, including the lieutenant governor's race and the contest for new castle county executive. developing now. an hour's long standoff with police in franconia township. the swat team was called to

bartlett court. police say a man was alone in his home with guns and refused to come out. that man has now been taken into custody and no one was injured. a follow-up to a deadly crash in mercer county that we first brought you last night at 11:00. investigators say a man was trying to get away from police when he crashed his suv into a car in hamilton township. the crash killed 22-year-old. police say they tried to stop trevor in trenton after they witnessed an alleged drug deal. he took off. police followed, but they called off the pursuit about a mile before the crash. >> you killed my baby. we just want justice. that's it. we just want justice. we want them to pay for what they did. >> reporter: tonight heather is facing numerous charges, including death by auto. overseas former israeli prime minister simon peres is being treated for a stroke. the head of the hospital caring for the 93-year-old says the

stroke caused a lot of bleeding. he is now on a respirator, and doctors did a ct scan but haven't released the results. he has held nearly every senior office in israel over his seven-decade career, and he won a nobel peace prize in 1994. the united nations will convene tomorrow, and philadelphia's mayor jim kenny is a featured speaker. kenny is scheduled to address the dignitaries in new york about the city's support for the u.n.'s sustainable development goals. kenny's remarks will come on day one of the u.n.'s three-day impact 2030 conference. >> may this world be magic. i love you. this has been one of the greatest opportunities of my life. that's eagles longsnapper jon dorenbos mesmerizing the country in the "america's got talent" finale. jacquelin is with us tonight. >> reporter: jim, i am here on the red carpet where all of the

90s. 92 degrees, chestnut hill near 90. a 89 degrees. allentown, right around 90 degrees tomorrow. if you are in robinsville, new jersey, 90 for your high. avalon, 58. wilmington, coming in around 90 degrees. even rajovas beach could be 90 tomorrow. definitely above normal for this time of year. the average high is actually 79 degrees. the cooler air, that's going to be here on thursday. it's all because of a cold front moving through. we're on the warm side of that right now. look what's going to happen to the temperatures. today we got to 85 degrees. tomorrow, there you see the 90s. then look at the dropdown to 78 on thursday. that is a huge temperature drop. there you see the blue dotted line. the average high is 79 degrees. by friday ending out the week, we're still going to be right around the upper 70s. it's going to be very pleasant and comfortable going into the weekend. part of your weekend, though, we do have showers and thunderstorms. that's mostly going to be the second half of your weekend.

not a wash-out, but just one of the dates to note if you have the weekend plans. locally, we're nice and dry. there you see the cold front just up to our north and west. not much rain associated with this, but as it gets closer tomorrow, it could try to spark some very late night, maybe early thursday morning showers. really don't think it's going to be much, though. we'll be staying just about mostly dry. tomorrow, though, there you see it. the hot air moves in. 90 degree temperatures. cold front swings through going into thursday, and that cooler air moves down, and it's really going to hang around for most of the week because we'll only be in about the low 80s wrrn here's your weekend forecast going into friday. now we're looking at temperatures. still the upper 70s. dry, mostly sunny. feeling like fall. we're going to go from summer to fall in only two days. then we go into saturday. about the low 80s. staying nice and dry. saturday very comfortable. then by sunday we'll still be around 80 degrees. scattered showers and thunderstorms for the second half of your weekend. you'll want to keep that in mind. we'll take a look at the ten-day forecast coming up. >> thanks.

trial for the man for shooting at george zimmerman is a road rage incident is underway in florida. >> i heard a bang and then my ears started ringing. >> zimmerman taking the stand there today testified that matthew apperson shot a single bullet into his truck as the two drove along side one another last year. apperson is charged with alleged second degree murder. his attorneys are arguing self-defense. the trial will resume tomorrow. it's expected to last most of the week.
