almost 10 hours. investigators want to know why a young family on a road trip suddenly swerves into a guardrail. state police say two kids, their mother and another relative were inside that nissan when it crashed. state troopers found alcohol in the family's car. >> there were open alcoholic containers in the car. it's under investigation as far as who was drinking. >> reporter: the 5-year-old victim identified as ravon robinson, police say he was thrown from the car on impact, authorities looking into whether he was properly restrained in a car seat, his sister also critically injured. ravon was a happy go lucky kid who always had a big smile. >> he was smart as a whip. >> reporter: the crash also caused commuter headaches closing a major lehigh valley thoroughfare during rush hour.

season today with people out on the beach. >> nbc 10 first alert meteorologist sheena parveen. >> it feels a lot like summer today. summer today, tomorrow, big cooldown, it will feel like fall. if you look at the temperatures at the bottom of your screen, we have a lot of 70s for afternoon high temperatures heading our way. 89 degrees in many of our south jersey neighborhoods, around 90 for our pennsylvania suburbs and even the lehigh valley. 92 degrees brewery town, jerseytown coming in at 92 degrees. so, yes, today feels like summer, but look what's happening, this cold front is heading our way, all this red here in this 90-degree

temperatures, that is all the hot air, just on the south side of this front. it's 95 just to our south in d.c. but there you see it, the 60s and 70s go into tomorrow. we'll talk about the cooldown in the forecast and storms for part of your weekend. >> 20 minutes of nonstop news continues with panic for parents. after a 5-year-old student brought heroin to his kindergarten class. south jersey reporter sidney long is live at the school in trenton. >> i know you just spoke with parents as school was letting out there, i imagine they're pretty shocked about this. >> reporter: parents are telling me they are scared, they are angry, upset, even more so because they're just finding out what happened at school on monday today with a note sent

home. a boy appeared to be playing what what was a white candy wrapper and it was one of many. now wrapped in cardboard, officials covered the front windows and doors of the international academy of charter school. inside is where police say a 5-year-old boy was rushed by ambulance monday to the hospital after teachers found 30 packets of heroin in his school lunch box. >> my heart just dropped, it was like oh, wow. >> reporter: police say the boy tested negative for ingesting any of the drugs, police detectives are now working the case, but so far nobody has been charged. the school which parents said didn't send home a note monday or yesterday. posted a message ooirk at is follow -- all our students can be engaged high achieving learners and positive role models. >> what can the school do except

north broad street shopping mall, was awarded this historical marker today. this was the dream of dr. wlleo sullivan. after progress plaza ministers across the country opened businesses in distressed neighborhoods. >> it meant the culmination of one man's deems, tenacity, commitment and hard work. >> the site has more than a dozen tennants. authorities in couple ber land county have turned to a new tactic to stop a rash of burglaries targeting a landscaping equipment. stealing more than $3,000 worth of tools. thieves have been taking equipment from garages and from sheds all over the city. they have made a handful of arrests but the crimes continued.

now they're hoping the public will help them move ahead of the thieves. >> i hope they do whatever they can to stop this. this is our stuff, we bawling it. we worked hard for it. >> there have been close to 300 burglaries so far this jeyear, d more than a third of those cases have involved equipment stolen from sheds and garages. it is now the law of delaware. >> delaware ramped up it's autism resources today with a new law. in newark, the governor signed the bill creating the delaware network for excellence, it will be a hub for trainings. >> i think the most important work that we do is to make sure that we are leaving fewer people on the fringes of society. >> this new network will help children and adults with autism. >> the ceo of the company that makes epipens will face a congressional committee looking into the price of those life

saving devices. heather bresch will testify before the house oversight and government reform committee next week. leaders of that committee say there is justified outrage over the price of the epipen. two men accused of stealing a pair of wave runners on the morning of september 11. police say the two men made off with these two water crafts and the attached trailer. the camera also captured an image of the suv used in the heist. police say it's possibly a jeep cherokee. philadelphia mayor jim kenny will address the united nations in the next 30 minutes, he's in new york to speak to dignitaries about phil philadelphia's support.

local colleges are joining forces to ease the debt burden on eligible students. camden college sturvedents who earned their associate's degree will receive a grant to cover tuition and other costs. >> we have been working with rutgers forever in very positive ways, but you can graduate from with an associate's degree from camden college is going to be able to move seamlessly to camden college. >> discounts on tuition range from students in the $60,000 to $100,000 income brackets. the head of the nfl has a message for football parents today. we are making the game safer. >> in an exclusive interview

now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> well, 90s were in the forecast today and which had a lot of 90s around the area. it still feels like summer hot today, tomorrow you will notice a big difference when you step outside tomorrow. rehoboth beach will be cooler. your seven-day is strolling at the bottom of your screen, so you'll see much cooler than we have seen in the past couple of weeks, 90 in philadelphia, that's a record high for philadelphia. it's 91 in wilmington, delaware and south jersey. in lehigh valley, many areas still around 90 degrees, and we are still very dry outside. 91 marshallton, coming in at 93

degrees. suffolk county around 90 right now. 91 ellendale and even if you're closest to the beaches, 80 degrees. there you see the radar, we're nice and dry, but we do have a cold front on the way, that's what's going to cool us down tomorrow, the rain you see to our north and west, it's going to struggle to come our way. now we zoom into the poconos, you see some showers trying to pass through. the best chance for any late night showers maybe the lehigh valley and maybe the pennsylvania suburbs. there you see that cold front, you see the colder air, and that thing you see spinning around the coast of south carolina, that's a tropical storm, it's not coming here, so we're not going to worry about that. locally we have dry conditions for this evening, except if you're farther north and west,

by 8:30 tonight, some of the computer models are picking up on maybe a few showers trying to move in. lehigh valley, not going to be a big deal. then that cold front comes through tomorrow, we're nice and dry, and noticeably cool temperatures in the 70s. another beautiful day feeling like fall. then we go into saturday, now we see some rainier the great lakes, that's going to move into our area as we go through sunday, we do have some rain over part of your weekend. take a look at these temperatures, right now we're around 90 degrees for most of the area, tomorrow highs 78 degrees in fair mount, 77 shanksville. nice and sunny, north wind, robbinsville, upper 70s, that is some very comfortable air moving in, low humidity friday and saturday. temperatures on friday, upper 70s, saturday low 80s.

yeah, we're approaching the last weekend of summer. it still feels like july out there. >> first alert meteorologist sheena parveen is tracking this week's warmup. >> it's only going to last for the rest of today because we have some really big changes coming tomorrow. look at delaware right now, 91 degrees, plenty of sunshine, new jersey, 92 there, lehigh valley, you'll notice more clouds around, but we're still in the low 90s, philadelphia coming in at 92. that is a record high temperature. we have the clouds in lehigh valley. dark clothes because we have showers and storms over the poconos, that's all part of a cold front. so by 7:00 p.m., we could see some of those showers moving into the lehigh valley. temperatures dropping by 10 degrees right arrangeound 70 de. there's the cold front i was

mentioning, still dry, still sunny, but it's the poconos that we start to see the clouds and the thunderstorms. so we could be seeing some of these showers moving into the lehigh valley, mainly pennsylvania suburbs as we go through this evening. for now, the 90s are still with us. once that cold front months through, we have a lot of cool air moving through, with highs in the 70s. we'll take a look at that forecast coming up. >> in nbc 10 responds, a woman says she has to clean her washing machine every time she uses it. >> the viewer says that several repairmen didn't solve the problem, she wanted her money back or a new machine.

>> make sure to watch and see if dorenbos is the most talented act in america. tonight's episode starts tonight at 8:00. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> well, we hit the 90s today through most of the area, so it feels like summer. take a look at all the 90s on the map, 92 in philadelphia, in wilmington, 91. many of our pennsylvania suburbs are in the 90s. 88 degrees kenneth square, melbourne, 92. mckinney and bucks county, we have middle to low 90s. warrington coming in at 92 degrees. tomorrow, big difference with our temperatures, it is not going to be the 90s, we're going to be dropping big time. but for today, we have already hit a reported high in philadelphia of 92 degrees, that

matches the old record, the average high, what's normal for this time of year is 79 degrees. going into the weekend, we'll get up there a little bit, but we're not going to get back into the 90s and we have some rain moving in for the weekend. but we'll notice a big temperature drop as we go into tomorrow morning. cooldown tomorrow, much cooler than today. here's what your neighborhood highs look like tomorrow. sunny skies, it's going to feel like fall tomorrow, today feels like summer. big difference in the air masses moving in. 78 degrees for tomorrow's high in redding, if you're in new jersey, expect temperatures around 77 degrees, and if you're in dover, your high will be right around 77 degrees. a very comfortable day tomorrow, but then we go into the weekend and at least half your weekend looks good because for sunday, we have some scattered showers and thunderstorms approaching. there's the cold front that's

going to cool us down. so it's going to move through as we go through overnight. and that's going to bring us the cool air tomorrow. what you see to our south, spinning off the coast of south carolina. that's a tropical storm, in case you're wondering, we do not have to worry about that. the only showers we are watching is mostly near the poconos, so we're going to stay dry for tonight. some areas north and west of philadelphia could see some of those showers move in. that's why we have a couple of showers for the forecast for the lehigh and pennsylvania suburbs. so for today, 90s, it's hot, here comes the cold front move through, tomorrow cooler, with 70s around through friday. it will be feeling like fall through your friday, maybe even to start the weekend, now saturday, it's going to be dry, but we'll be getting a little bit warmer. sunday mid to low 80s, scattered
