get inside. cops say cases like this keep piling up, so they're trying a new tactic to shut them down. >> rig but diane says more than $3,000 worth of tools were stolen in all. >> now we're scared. >> reporter: of the close to 300 burglary cases in vine land so far this year, police say more than a third have involved landscaping equipment. police believe drug adigits are behind the thefts. investigators say they have made a handful of arrests but the crimes continue. so now they're hoping neighbors will help them get a step ahead of the thieves. >> who's out there buying this equipment, who's selling this

equipment. just to try something different. if we can find out who that person is, we can stop that. >> reporter: they want people to be on the lookout for anyone who has a large amount of the equipment or who's trying to sell it at prices that seem too good to be true. they believe the culprits are operating beyond vineland or cumberland county. >> this is multiple jurisdictions. >> i think they should do whatever they can to stop this kifd of stuff, this is our stuff, we bought it. we worked hard for it and we use it all the time and we don't have it. >> police say it's important to keep a detailed list of your equipment, including the manufacturer, model and serial number, that way if it's ever stolen and recovered, it will be easier to return. police are looking for go men who stole a bunch of tools from a budget truck rental store last saturday.

the bottom, you'll notice a big change. this cold front is just off to your north and west. 60s and 70s on the back site of it that cooler air will be here by the time you step outside tomorrow. we're still in the warm sector, the cooler air will get here just in time for your thursday, so you will notice a big difference in the air masses outside. right now we we're getting some rain and a few showers right around the poconos, some models are showing some of these showers moving into the lehigh valley, maybe our pennsylvania suburbs, not going to be a big deal, but as it does move through, things will start to cool down, we'll look more at the cooldown in the forecasts and showers and storms for part of your week. a 5-year-old boy is dead and his sister is seriously injured after their car swerved off the road in the lehigh valley during

a family road. that accident happened ovrm on interstate 78, the family was driving up from south carolina back to their home in new jersey when their nissan hit the guardrail. family members say 5-year-old ravon robinson was thrown from the vehicle and died. his 2-year-old sister was also seriously hurt. police say they found open containers of alcohol inside the car and are waiting on toxicology tests before filing any charges. >> there were open alcoholic containers in the car, it's under investigation as far as who was drinking. >> reporter: two other drivers were also hurt when they rear ended the disabled vehicle. we're learning more tonight about a woman who was shot in the driveway of her lehigh county home. 46-year-old stephanie roof was shot in her home. the county coroner ruled roof's death a homicide, so far no

one's in custody. some incredible video to show you from south jersey cell phone video right here of a shore home going up in flames in atlantic city. it happened? morning on south dover avenue. we spoke to the fire department, they tell us no one was hurt here. they're still trying to figure out how that fire started. fire rips through the nearly century olds place of worship. firefighters were able to save the structure, but the inside is almost a total loss. despite the heavy damage, the pastor's grandson says they're optimistic for the future. >> we're just going to get ourselves together, call our members in and we're just going to work and make it happen. >> fortunately no one was hurt here, the cause as we said still under investigation. commuters using martin luther king drive may have to find another way to get where

coast of south carolina. these pictures are from jacksonville where they're dealing with 40-mile-per-hour winds, four to six inches of rain expected there. we do not have to worry about julia, it's going to stay to our south and then eventually fizzle out. we're just watching some cooler air moving in right now. so in fact we're going to have some really nice changes from today through tomorrow. hot temperatures tied, this is a live look out in chester county. beautiful skies there, clear skies with temperatures that feel like summer, but tomorrow, it's going to get a lot cooler. 92 in philadelphia. 92 in wilmington, 90 for south jersey areas, we'll take a look at those lehigh valley areas, 90 in redding, if you're in allentown, you're at 87 degrees. we do have some 90s, bethlehem and white hall township coming

in at 92 degrees. we have some rain just on the doorstep in areas there. mostly near the poconos, the rain you see, that's part of a cold front. and that cold front is going to give us a cooldown. now we'll zoom into the poconos, there you see a line of showers, some thunderstorm activity earlier today. and some of these could make their way into the lehigh valley. it's not going to be a big deal. but don't be surprised if in the next several hours if you're in the lehigh valley. there's the cold front behind it. the cooler air from canada will be moving in tomorrow. and down to our south, the video that we just showed you tropical storm julia, is going to stay to our south. so for us locally, the only chance of a few showers tonight, maybe some spotty showers north and west. 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, that cold front still making its way

through. and sunny for friday, and in fact friday, it's going to be a really nice day too, feeling like fall, nice and dry, saturday looks dry too. we're going to stay dry, but the rain starts to approach from the west and that rain will be here as we go into your sunday. half of the week will be dry. take a look at tomorrow's high temperature, though, big difference from today, 79 for the high in relating, 76 for bethlehem, nice and sunny, low humidity, 77 phoenixville and west chester, if you're in the fim area, expect temperatures in the upper 70s, 78 fair mount, and if you're in new jersey, 77 degrees, in haddenfield. for delaware, if you're in wilmington, 78 degrees. and your weekend forecast for friday, upper 70s still, really

forecast. >> here's nbc 10 first alert meteorologist sheena parveen. >> today is really the only day we're going to be in the 90s after this. but now it's going to feel like as we go into friday. we actually matched the record in pennsylvania p. if you're in the lehigh valley, you're around 90 degrees. and wilmington, 92. in the lehigh valley, we're seeing the approach of a cold front. 90 westbound, brewery town coming in, 93 degrees, society hill 894, summerton 9. so today, definitely feels lying summer. your seven-day is at the bottom of the screen. you'll notice a change in our temperatures as we go through the weekend. it's all because of that cold

schools as well. >> i know a lot of parents say i don't know if i want my kid playing football. do you think this is a way to help that perception making football safer so that kids play football and continue to play football? >> i'm here, half the things that the nfl does is for the pr and for the public perception. but i do think there are some -- there's a realty that, you know, for our game to survive, you've -- people have got to feel good about playing it. >> final question, they're also talking about designing helmets for different positions because obviously some positions are t getting hit more. how important do you think that is? >> i think it's important to despite what is needed for the different positions, but i think the helmets, we have heard a lot about the research but haven't really seen the fruits in our locker rooms.

more than a year after a mudslides watched out a montgomery county road. residents are still dealing with headaches. the road shut down has increased traffic in their neighborhoods and there's no hope in sight, thanks to a legal mess, complicated by a property owner who passed away. >> reporter: jim, welcome to dehead dehaven street. most people using their phones to try and figure out a way around this closed road. >> if you want to take a walk with your child or ride a bike with your child, it's not going to happen. >> ruined the quality of my life. >> reporter: when you talk to people who live on dehaven street, they all have their
