heart that was done that looked good. >> reporter: the tv doctor saying trump takes a drug for cholesterol. otherwise, he's healthy. tonight at a northeast philadelphia fund-raiser, jon voight, the hollywood actor supporting trump, said the candidate's ability to handle the campaign schedule speaks for itself. >> he goes to the thing in los angeles and i see him. he looks like he just got out of bed, fresh as a daisy. he's got something special. >> do you think hillary would be able to stand up here for an hour and do this? i don't. i don't think so. >> reporter: trump using his latest campaign rally to continue to raise questions about his opponent's health. the clinton campaign put out a new letter from her doctor today. >> the doctor's letter is actually fairly complete, and it shows she's actually a very healthy person. >> reporter: we also learned clinton still takes a blood thinner after her concussion several years ago and she's taking antibiotics now for her non-contagious bacterial pneumonia diagnosed last friday. meanwhile, some philly voters

are wondering if they needed to know this much detail. >> i think the issue is overblown. i wish they would talk more about our health issues. >> reporter: clinton is planning to return to the campaign trail tomorrow. her doctor wrote she is recovering well and is fit to serve as president of the united states. jim. >> drew smith. the trump campaign is keeping up its push for pennsylvania tonight. trump's running mate, mike pence, campaigned in scranton a few hours ago, and pence pushed trump's national security agenda, and he promised that trump will get the economy moving for pennsylvania. colin powell's hacked e-mails reveal strong criticism for both presidential candidates. the former secretary of state's private e-mails were released by a website with suspected ties to russia. in those e-mails, powell calls trump, quote, a national disgrace and an international pariah, and powell wrote about hillary clinton's e-mail scandal saying, quote, her minions are making a mistake trying to drag me in, end quote. new at 11:00, a man and woman found dead inside a home

in ventener. tonight, investigators are trying to figure out who killed them and why. police found their bodies when they went to check on them this afternoon at a house along oxford avenue. they died of apparent gunshot wounds. autopsy results are still pending. a new twist tonight after a fire in philadelphia's east germantown neighborhood. police say now 64-year-old robert lynch was stabbed to death inside his apartment on east church lane before that home caught fire monday morning. investigators tell us an argument was the motive for homicide, but so far police aren't naming any suspects. an atlantic city police officer shot in the head less than two weeks ago could get out of the hospital as soon as tomorrow. the a.c. police department says officer joseph vadell's condition has been upgraded and he's almost ready to be transferred to a rehab facility. vadell and his partner interrupted a robbery labor day weekend. the partner shot and killed one suspect. two others were arrested.

happening now. power outages at rutgers university in new brunswick have forced some 3,000 students to sleep in the gym and nearby rec centers. about 90 buildings have no electricity, and officials are not sure why. the school canceled tomorrow's classes. to our weather now. felt a lot like summer in your neighborhood today, but it will be much cooler for your thursday. in chinatown, people were enjoying the warm september air while they can. sheena, cooler temps heading our way, but today we saw record heat. >> yes, jim, we did see record heat today. felt like summer. look at the temperatures that we reached today. these are all record highs. philadelphia, 92. georgetown, 93. allentown, 91. trenton, 93. now, the normal high this time of year is actually 79 degrees, so we're well above that today. tomorrow, very different story. our temperatures right now are mostly in the mid- to low 70s

across the area, but the big cool down that's going to happen as we go through the day tomorrow. so the cold front still making its way through. you see the cooler air up to our north. that will be moving in throughout the day tomorrow, so it will be noticeably cooler, especially by the afternoon. bus stop temperatures, mostly the mid-50s through the lehigh valley. low 60s through the philadelphia area. coming up, we'll take a look at the cool down for tomorrow. also friday and some showers for your weekend. >> all right, sheena. see you soon. >> a close call for a kindergarten student in trenton. he was rushed to the hospital after more than two dozen packets of heroin were found inside his lunch box. the 5-year-old goes to the international academy of trenton charter elementary, and on monday, a teacher saw the boy playing with what appeared to be a white candy wrapper. that was actually a packet of heroin he had. 29 more packets were found inside his lunch box. the child tested negative for drugs, and so far no one's been charged. tonight, philadelphia's top cop says the violence in the

city is keeping him up at night. more than a dozen people shot or stabbed in 15 hours. nearly half of them died. next 10's brandon hudson is live tonight at police headquarters. brandon, violence is up, and the commissioner is frustrated. >> reporter: he is, jim. we spoke to the commissioner across the street at police headquarters earlier today. he told us philadelphia had no homicides over the weekend or on monday, but a violent tuesday has led to a couple of sleepless nights for the men and women of this police force. 13 people shot or stabbed and five killed in a 15-hour span tuesday. a violent day led to an early morning today for philadelphia police commissioner richard ross. >> i came in here by -- >> they have developments in yesterday's shootings and stabbings but it's a challenge since so many happened in one day, including a double shooting on schneider avenue with killed

rapper meek mills' 21-year-old cuzing. the city's murder rate is up with 203 homicides this year, the highest since 2012. by the end of that year, philadelphia totaled more than 330 homicides. >> we're not setting any records by any stretch of the imagination, but it's frustrating because we're talking about human beings. >> my son was number 69. >> reporter: lisa espinoza's son was gunned down five months ago. espinoza is now working with the national homicide justice alliance, a group trying to help police detectives. >> we need to start showing as a city that we care. >> we family members of homicide victims really want to help. we want to reach out. we want to make a difference, but we can't do it by ourselves. >> reporter: commissioner ross says that the murder rate is constantly changing, so it may fall by the end of the year. we also learned that other

violent crime is down. investigators are using computer statistics to stay ahead of these homicide cases, which are largely not random. live in center city at police headquarters, i'm brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. in new jersey, a city dealing with its own crime surge, announced a plan tonight to try to fight back. trenton officials met on a city street to discuss steps to combat crime there. councilman dunkin' harrison hold residents that he plans to ask for increased lighting and cameras in the neighborhood. he also wants more programs to support parents. last night alone, trenton had three separate shootings, wounding four people there. skyforce10 over the scene of one of the attacks on south clinton avenue. weekend shootings in trenton killed three people and injured three others. today philadelphia mayor jim kenney spoke at the united nation's headquarters, and the experience took him back to his childhood. >> our eighth grade class trip was to new york city from south philadelphia, and this building

is one of the stops. and it was amazingly impressive to me in 1971, and to be here standing in this place speaking to you in that same building as mayor is just kind of overwhelming for me. >> kenney spoke to the u.n. about philadelphia's support of impact 2030, a global sustainability project kenney says philly's sustainability goals are quality education for all, more working class jobs and better infrastructure in every community. president obama plans to award the national medal of arts to 12 giants of music, acting, literature and more. actor morgan freeman will be among those accepting the award at the white house next week. actor and median mel brooks will also be honored as well as record producer and song writer barry gordy. at that same ceremony, president obama will also award the national humanities medal to winten marsalis. author james mcbride, and

dozens of friends and family gathered tonight holding candles in the air to remember deja farrier. she's the 22-year-old woman killed monday in hamilton township after an suv slammed into her car. investigators say the driver of the suv was trying to get away from police. mourners met on the spot where the crash happened. prosecutors say chandler heb aside took off when police tried to stop him after they witnessed a drug deal. state police followed, but they say they called off the chase before the crash. heb aside has his first court appearance tomorrow. a montgomery county road has been shut down for more than a year and it's causing a big problem for people in two towns. the ground is crumbling. penn dot owns the road but the area that's causing the damage is private property, and the owner has died. west consha hawken is suing that

owner's estate. frustrated drivers are taking detours through private residential streets and residents are caught in the middle. >> all these cars you're looking at now, they never came through here this time of day. but there's no way to get around it. >> penn dot will meet with consha ha ca officials tomorrow for an update on the legal issues involved in this shutdown. right there is the 12-year-old girl with a voice beyond her years. tonight she won the top prize on "america's got talent." she got a million dollars, and she gets a las vegas show too. jon dorenbos came in third. his magic act won a lot of hearts out there, but it wasn't enough for the top prize. so close. nbc 10's jacqueline london live in hollywood where she's been following jon's journey and talked to him right after the results were announced. jackie. >> reporter: it was not in the cards for jon dorenbos tonight,

reporting out there in l.a. all right. sheena parveen, we're ready for this cool down after a hot one today. >> we have some big changes in the forecast today. we in the 90s. it felt like summer. tomorrow it's going to feel a lot like fall. so we hit a record high. 92 degrees in philadelphia today. many areas had a record high, but for philadelphia, 92. well above the normal of 79. tomorrow we are going to drop all the way to 78 degrees, and that is going to be our high temperature. even friday, 79 degrees. by saturday and sunday, mid-80s return, but still nice out compared to today. felt a lot hotter today. cool down coming tomorrow afternoon. like i just showed you, but here are your neighborhood high temperatures. easton coming in 75 degrees. sunny, low humidity. it's going to feel really nice tomorrow afternoon. robbinsville, 77 degrees. avalon, 73. if you're in dover, you'll be right around 76 degrees. tomorrow, nice fall day.

it's going to stay like that friday. even saturday is going to be nice. but then we go into sunday. showers and thunderstorms for part of your weekend. the good news is not the entire weekend, and sunday doesn't look like a washout, but we will have showers and storms moving in. radar basically dry. we did have some showers earlier this afternoon through parts of the lehigh valley. that's all pretty much leaving, but it is part of that cold front. the cold front trying to make its way through now. it will be through by tomorrow, which is going to bring that cooler air in. what you also see swirling at the bottom of the screen, tropical storm julia. we don't have to worry about that. it's not going to come here, but it's spinning toward our south and that's where it's going to stay. tonight we're going to stay dry. clouds are going to keep moving to the south tomorrow. mostly sunny day for most of the air, but you will notice the changes, the very cool temperatures even as we go into friday. another very nice day. low humidity. feeling like fall through the afternoon. and then we go into saturday. you see the approach of rain off to our west.

we do stay dry saturday. that rain is going to set up as we go into sunday. i think most of the area will see thunderstorms later sunday afternoon. so going into the weekend, friday, mostly the upper 70s across the area. staying sunny. saturday, mostly sunny. high temperatures getting into the low 80s. if you're along the shore, right around 77 degrees saturday. sunday we'll see afternoon showers and storms. temperatures, mid-to-low 80s. if you're in new jersey or delaware, you're going to see these later in the day. but either way, the entire weekend is not going to be a washout but fairly nice as we go through these next several days. stay tuned. we'll be right back.
