learning new information about the push for the soda tax which may fizzle out. one of the topics expect today come up, a lawsuit filed yesterday kbens the sweetened beverage tax. matt delucia is live for us. you just spoke with the mayor. tell us more. >> reporter: right. the major called the lawsuit repugnant. he says that the industry is trying to seep money away from schools and rec centers. the sweetened beverage tax was enacted as a way to fund pre-k.

that tax is 1.5 cents per ounce. it was from the soda makers down to local business owners who say they will have to raise their prices on sugary drinks. it is expected to bring in $4.5 million in the first year. some argued the tax is illegal and opponents joined in filing to lawsuit. we spoke with the mayor a few minutes ago. here is what he had to say about it. >> they spent $10 million to fight this in the legislative process and lost. we were going to win. we are going to win. we have to win. our kids depend on it. their pocketbooks are more important than these children. they have to look in the mirror. if i look in the mirror afei fe pretty good. >> reporter: the city expects

holding in syria. they are having trouble getting aid to the war torn region. they say the country's government has not provided needed permits. the government had agreed to allow the aid. the envoy says 40 trucks are ready to move and the priority will be to get help into the neighborhoods. >> it is particularly regrettable. normally during these days we are losing time. they are days we should have used for convoys to use with the permit to go because there is no fighting. >> the envoy says there is good news in the cease fire. he reports bloodshed has dropped and attacks on schools and hospitals have stopped. a man will remain behind bars.

we report from fort pierce just a short time ago. >> reporter: a judge denied bond for joseph shriver. it is called a hate crime enhancement. the judge referred to seven pages of prior criminal history and called him a flight risk. he also talked about anti islamic facebook posts on his internet and facebook pages. he says he did not want to take a chance for leasing him into the community. investigators say he is the man seen running away seconds before flames tore through the
