their prayers were answered. >> just 12 days after being shot in the head, atlantic city police officer josh vadell gave a thumbs-up, waved and saluted as he was wheeled out of atlantic care regional medical center. vadell got this sendoff from dozens of his fellow officers and local firefighters who came to support the father of two and vadell's loved ones. the 29-year-old officer was wounded september 3 he and his partner interrupted a robbery outside the caesar's parking garage. today vadell appeared emotional in the back of the ambulance with his wife after kissing him, she embraced the medical team that saved his live. >> he's young, he's healthy, he's made an incredible recovery already, faster than we would expect. >> doctors say the bullet hit the right part of vadell's

deadly in south jersey, a trenton family is in search of justice for their daughter. today they saw her accused killer in court via video for the first time. chandler heavyside is charged in deja quinones's death. today a judge set his bail at $650,000. he's accused of crashing his suv into her car on monday night in hamilton township while he was trying to get away from police. police say that officers tried to stop heavyside in trenton after they witnessed a drug deal. the victim's mother was in court and tells us she wants justice. >> the prosecutors need to go after this guy as if she was his own daughter, we need all hands on to get justice for deja. >> police say they found heroin on heavyside and in his car. nbc 10's sidney long is working on this story for nbc 10 news at

police officers were attacked by someone with a cleaver just outside of penn station. this is a live look over penn station where you can see that officers have swarmed the streets. officials tell us that the officers' injuries are not life threatening. police officers did shoot the stpt in this case. but he should also survive. the fbi is now looking into this incident and says that agents from the joint terrorism task force will be investigating as a precaution. in other news, a man accused of setting a florida mosque on fire is denied bail. joseph shriver appeared in court via video feed this morning, he was arrested wednesday on arson charges on what's called a hate crime enhancement. investigators say that shriver was seen running from the islamic center at ft. pierce after it caught on fire on the 15th anniversary of 9/11. he also made several anti-islamic statements on social media. some new details today about

those samsung phones that are at risk of catching fire. just about an hour ago, the consumer products safety commission issued a recall of 1 million galaxy note 7 cell phones. you can either get a new phone or a refund. the number on the back of the phone will determine if it is part of the recall. take a look at this flaming car in florida. the driver says the popular cell phone at the center of that massive recall is to blame for this. he he was charging his samsung galaxy note 7 on tuesday night, he was inside the car when the phone just burst into flames. investigators say they are still looking into the official cause of this fire. and a beautiful day today with cool temperatures tonight, though the clear skies, the dry air is going to give us even cooler weather, i'll show you your lows plus some rain for the weekend coming up.

yesterday afternoon when he pulled out his phone after he saw a school bus and a fedex truck pull off this dangerous maneuver. >> i saw the fedex truck pull-up almost to the curb. >> before he started recording, steve says he saw the school bus pull out in the middle of the roadway. >> going like 18 to 20 miles an hour. >> and that wasn't fast enough for the bus driver. >> apparently not. >> that's when steve started reporting. you can clearly see the school bus approach a traffic light and pull out to his left into oncoming traffic. but the truck driver pulls to the left too. both school bus and truck, playing a dangerous game on a busine busy street. >> i believe a second or two later just passed in the opposite direction on the left side of the road, and it could have been really that issy.
