in number. nbc 10's tim furlong has been looking into the problem. >> reporter: if you like cats, you're welcome. but these cats were in some really rough places. some are ferrell cats, some used to be pets, they're all now homeless. their facility in delaware county is packed with trapped cats they will vaccinate, feed or spay and nulter. a study by pets smart shows there are a lot of cats that need care. >> they believe there are about 10,000 cats free roaming outside. >> so they donated a chunk of money to help the cats in these areas. they have already brought in a lot of cats from these areas. >> this one was found by a stream. >> so far we have sterilized 2,700 cats in newark, newcastle

found individual donations are also piling up. as of the last filing date at the end of june, both campaigns had raised more money from out of state donors than from donors in the state they're campaigning to represent. >> these are people who are interested in central issues in the campaign or central constituencies these candidates represent. >> reporter: both toomey and mcginty received the most out of state donations from the most atm state of new york, morn half a million dollars east. followed by california where mcginty received 800 -- including maximum done faces from barbara lee, an expert on women in politics and a senior advisor in the state department and a former ambassador.
