tighter. and bunching people up. it's not gashing for seven or eight. it's a push for two or three. >> mike: that is difference. and the defense was on the ropes a lot. basing the third quarter onslaught, as michigan state scored 31. second and eight, leading all the play clock. and scott has to get to the outside. can he get there? no. a good job on the edge. and avery sebastian, who did a good job in the second half, as notre dame uses its second time-out, with 2:36 to go in regulations. >> doug: what a job by onwualu. he closes this down. he is coming from the left side of the screen. takes a shoulder and keeps it tight inside. when scott tries to bounce it, he still has leverage and comes out, makes a play. great job on taking on a fullback block. and then, what bill belichick would say, setting the edge to turn it up. scott tried to bounce it. onwualu kept a free arm on the outside.

>> mike: he was a wide receiver. bounced around and found his way on this side of the ball with a capta captain. >> doug: when that's happening, you're not expecting a guy that is going to become a captain of your football team. and he's been resilient. a big part of this team and a starter. and there, a huge play on second down. creating another third down opportunity. >> mike: he said i wanted to be the hammer, not the nail. he moved over to defense. and now, they find a way to make a play here. or it may be a case for the irish, in terms of the comeback. third and seven. the spartans need to get to the 24 yard line.

notre dame will play duke here. the bigger picture of this comeback that might fall a drive start, as kelly tries to get the answers from his defensive coordinator. notre dame is going to lose two of the first three. and you can recover from an early loss to get back in the playoff picture. you can recover from early loss, especially when you're in a conference. the stated goal of being part of a college football playoffs, like the spartans were last year, is slipping out of the grass for the irish here. unless they can make something special happen. second and five for msu. holmes is stopped. spartans snap it with 1:10 left for third down. the spartans next week, play wisconsin. this is the toughest road test.

♪ >> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. right now on nbc 10, searching for answers. video shows the gunman responsible for a shooting ram page in west philadelphia walking calmly, not running in between attacks. >> help me, please. >> reporter: she was just one of six people shot. one of them killed as the suspect created chaos over several blocks overnight. >> obviously he was hell bent on hurting a lot of people and we've uncovered new details of the suspect's criminal pact. >> thanks for joining us. police say 25-year-old nicolas glen left behind a note discussing his hatred of police. but investigators are searching for a specific motive. we have team coverage of this

shooting ram page. drew, you've learned more about the mindset of the gunman before the attack. >> yeah, this is starting to come together for investigators who do plan to spend more time with glen's friends and family. they have reviewed his criminal past and taken a look at the note found with his body and they describe as rambling on and on. our first look at nicolas glen was him walking through chaos while police scrambled to track him down. >> you could tell somebody was running. >> reporter: now investigators are revealing a deeper picture of a manuel known to them. they're working to trace where the gun came from. the serial number was obliterated. >> we still aren't absolutely clear as to why. >> reporter: the 25-year-old had a lengthy criminal record pap former lawyer said he represented glen on a series of

drug cases. he was landed in solitary confinement and he said quote he slowly became more and more despondent. i was having a more difficult time communicating with him. the word doomed was written on the letter found in his pocket. it details frustration with a probation officer and hatred of police, but mostly ranting and rambling. >> it's more about himself than who he wanted to harm. >> reporter: and a search of glen's place did not show up any ties to extremists ties. but they believe if they find out exactly what motivated them, it could prevent a future tragedy. drew smith, nbc 10 news. new video into nbc 10 appears to show one of the shooting ram page victims ducking for cover, this after he was apparently hit by the gun

fire. a total of six people were shot last night and one of those victims died. here with our live team coverage at prebetes betearian medical center. >> reporter: one officer has her bullet-proof vest to thank for her survival. a bar manager was said to be in good spirits. a nearby business's surveillance camera captured the dramatic video showing an officer, possibly edward miller, falling after being shot. getting up and limping to take cover. officers cornered glen in an alley along 48th street and killed him, ending a horrific chain of events. >> bang, bang, bang. and i had to interrupt myself and get in a hiding space. >> reporter: this fear gripd men ea, like linda williams who

that her family has been noti notifi notified. reporting live outside of presbyterian hospital, nbc 10 news. and we just learned the police union will donate the proceeds from the tail gate party on monday to the injured police officers. our coverage of the shooting ram page continues with the frantic quals for help and a detailed timeline of the event. meanwhile, we're following breaking news tonight from new york city. police are investigating a second potential device after an explosion injured 26 people tonight in the chelsea section of manhattan. those injuries are minor. a law enforcement official told the associated press that the explosion appears to have come from a construction tool box in front of a building. fbi and homeland security officials are there on the

at least not yet. people celebrated the sixth annual dance on the falls bridge this evening. changes are coming. for more on what to expect, let's get a check of your neighborhood forecast with meteorologist, karen thomas. >> just a mild evening for any out door activity, frankly. and temperatures are dipping down, not doing too badly. mainly in the upper 60s, lower 70s. it is 72 right now in philadelphia and we're watching to the west as we keep a close eye on the cold front in the ohio valley. it will be pushing west to east and we can see the cloud shelf already filtering into our area. so, keeping an eye on this because it is expected to bring rain into our region and overnight into monday morning. but boy, it is going to be much needed rain to our area.
