we're learning details about the victims, the police officers and the woman killed in her car. the university of pennsylvania police officer left the hospital this morning, not long after he was greeted by members of the eagles. tonight, we're learning new about sarah sali, the woman shot multiple times while in a car in west philadelphia. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal joins us. >> officer miller was released from the hospital earlier today. that is good news. he was shot multiple times. the other victims here, there are four of them, continue to recover at penn presbyterian. the family of the young woman killed in the attack spoke to nbc 10, saying random violence like this has torn their family apart. >> reporter: surveillance video shows the gunman in the middle of his rampage approaching the car where sarah was sitting.

glenn had already shot three other people when he randomly targeted sarah and her boyfriend. >> very young. very beautiful. >> reporter: sarah's uncle says she was just getting home from a night out, sitting in the car. police say she was shot in the chest multiple times. >> we got somebody shot in the car. >> it's unbelievable. lost her life like this. >> reporter: the 27-year-old moved to this country from saudi arabia when she was a young girl. >> she was 8 years old when she came in. she finished high school, and then she went to a community college. >> reporter: she was studying fashion design but now her family is planning her funeral. >> very sad to lose her this way. you try the best you possibly can. you always try. >> reporter: the other victims of the rampage are recovering. officer miller was hit trying to

chase down the gunman. he was released from the hospital today, but not before getting a visit from some philadelphia eagles. philly police sergeant young is up and talking, despite being ambushed in the dark. >> help me, please! >> reporter: police say the suspect shot at her 18 times as she ducked for cover. >> 18 time wss with a 9 millime. it is miraculous she is alive. >> i spoke with a number of other people, neighbors in the neighborhood where the gunshots broke out. they cannot believe more people weren't hit or even killed. police say about 50 rounds fired in total. live at 10 presbyterian, randy gyllenhaal. two of the four remaining victims in the hospital worked at a local bar called the maximum level lounge. police say the gunman shot at least five times into the crowded club. a bar manager and female bartender were shot.

the two victims are recovering well. they describe the terrifying moments as the gunman came up to the door and started firing. >> went up the street and i guess they wouldn't let him in the bar so he shot them. then took one of the girls hostage, you know, for cover. then he shot her in the leg. he was a nice guy and the bartender was, too. >> the bar reopened a few hours ago after closing because of the shooting rampage. investigators are still looking into the motive. glenn shot six people before he was shot and killed. he has a long criminal history and is well-known to the philadelphia police department. nbc 10 has continuing coverage of the shooting rampage. we'll have new information about the suspect tonight at 11:00. get ready for rain on your

monday morning commute. finally get some of the rain the first time in weeks. let's go to chief meteorologist glen "hurricane" schwartz for your forecast. >> it's been 17 straight days without measurable rain in philadelphia. we need the rain, but maybe not as much as we're going to get, and not exactly the timing either. we don't have much on the radar right now. nothing more than a couple sprinkles to the north and west. we have a combination of a front coming in from the west and tropical moisture coming up from the south. it's going to kind of converge on the area by morning. as we go through the night tonight, you can see the showers getting closer to the poconos. in the middle of the night, it is getting into our area. some on the heavy side. some in the form of thunderstorms. then look what happens here as we go into the morning rush. it's not raining everywhere. it's not raining at the shore areas, for example, or close to the shore. there could be some locally

heavy rain, local street flooding at that time of the morning rush. the roads will be extra oily because there had not been any rain in so long. it's going to be an extra slow commute. and now to the latest developments on last night's bomb blast in new york city that injured 29 people. surveillance video from a nearby fitness center shows the moment of the explosion there. investigators are examining shrapnel. forensic traces and video for any link to an unexploded pressure cooker device found blocks away. we'll have an update from new york in ten minutes. investigators are looking into the possibility of a connection between new york and the pipe bomb that exploded at the jersey shore. we just learned a short time ago there were old style flip phones found at both scenes. governor chris christie say police have promising leads but no suspects. the bomb went off yesterday morning in seaside park, minutes

before thousands of runners took off in a charity 5k race. to benefit marines and sailors. no one was hurt. today, all the beaches reopened. federal authorities say they're investigating the stabbings of nine people at a minnesota mall as a possible act of terrorism. the suspect was shot and killed by an off duty police officer. it happened in st. cloud. authorities say the man was dressed as a security guard and reportedly mentioned allah and asked victims if they were muslim before attacking them. a news agency run by the islamic state group claimed the man was a soldier for the group. federal agents are still digging into the attacker's background. >> we'll look at his social media, his electronic devices. we'll talk to associates. we will try to sort of peel back the onion and figure out what motivated this individual to commit the horrific act that he did last night. >> three victims are still in the hospital. none of their injuries are life

>> reporter: 29 people were hurt, all have been released from the hospital. authorities do not believe isis is responsible, they want to know who planted the bomb and why. >> a bomb going off is generically a terrorist activity. that's how we're going to consider it. that's how we will prosecute it, also. >> reporter: less than three hours after the explosion in chelsea, another object described as a possible secondary device was found a few blocks away by officers combing the area. the device has been removed and authorities are searching for a connection. >> we have two separate crime scenes. keep in mind, we're in the middle of a very complex, post-blast investigation. >> reporter: hours before the blast in new york, a pipe bomb exploded before a charity run in seaside park, new jersey. no one was hurt and the run was cancelled. it's not clear if the blast was connected to either of the devices in new york city. this is a business is i time for the new york area. world leaders are arriving for

the united nations general assembly. new york's mayor is asking new yorkers to be on the lookout. >> a central message we want to give today is be vigilant. >> reporter: new york's governor said 1,000 state troopers and members of the national guard will be deployed throughout new york city. nbc news. for the second time in 48 hours, philadelphia police officers found a barrage of bullets aimed at them. just before midnight, officers on south street noticed a strong smell of marijuana and called out to a group of people. a young man took off running and they chased after him. the man then fired at least three times at the officers, but they took cover and were not hurt. eventually, they caught the 19-year-old suspect hiding in someone's backyard. the new philadelphia temple of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints was officially dedicated today.

wind coming in off the ocean. all right, the biggest headline, of course, it's going to rain. yes, it is finally going to rain. but the heavy rain, at least in some parts of the area, is going to come at a bad time. now, the last measurable rain we had was on the first of the month. we're going to get a rainy day on monday. that is a big gap in between. we have some moisture from the west, and that alone would produce some rain. but the complication that we have here is moisture from tropical depression julia that formed last week right off the northeast coast of florida. the moisture has been drifting northward. not all that well organized. not tremendous amounts of moisture. when you have that meeting the front, you'll end up with a lot of rain. look what happens on our future cast. lots of heavy rain and

thunderstorms for the morning rush. all allendown down toward the i-95. trenton, philadelphia, wilmington, down to baltimore. as you can see, some of this is very heavy. even into the noon hour. now, this model is more me pessimistic than others for the amounts of rain. keeps it in for a good bit of the day. the afternoon should be better than the morning for most of us. the shore might get more in the afternoon. this model is producing tremendous amounts of rain. over three inches of rain for parts of the area. that's certainly enough to cause some flooding, at least street flooding, as this happens in the morning. you can see all the shower and thunderstorms sim boymbols here. temperatures held in the 70s throughout the area. none of the 80 degree stuff we saw today. nowhere near the 87 degrees. so we've got that rainy daymo

thousands of people laced up their shoes for a musical half marathon through the streets of philadelphia. the rock and star half marathon took off this morning. the revamped course included fairmount avenue and the penitentiary. in the true rock and roll fashion, live bands joined spectators along the race route, cheering on the runners. they got through it despite all the humidity out there. >> yeah. warm and humid weather. not great for runners. we're not necessarily expecting much rain during the evening hours. this is the futurecast by 11:30 tonight. as we go toward the morning rush, the heavy rain up toward the lehigh valley will spread to the philadelphia area. it is going to be rough for the morning rush. as you can see, it's just a one-day one, except for the shore and parts of delaware. it makes it to tuesday. >> see you tonight after football. i'm hillary clinton and i approve this message.
