investigation ahmad khan rahami two years ago. neighbors say they made rahami's father call him a terror. the father tells us he made that statement after an argument in the heat of a moment inside their home. after multiple interviews, the fbi found no ties to terrorism. we just learned minutes ago about rahami's employment. he worked as a security guard. streets are still blocked up in new jersey with the take down up that suspect happened yesterday. >> sidney long is joining us live and sidney, what's happening there where you are right now? >> jim and jacqueline, i can tell you the fbi is still very much hard at work out here with a full scale command post set up here behind us. they continue to gather physical evidence and also interview anyone and everyone who crossed rahami's path.

new cell phone footage and is sound of gunshots as many as 16 were exchanged between am mat rahami and linden police. both near the bar where he shot at police, they're also reviewing evidence that they seized at rahami's home and his restaurant. authorities have yet to say where he think he built or hit home made bombs. >> i think it's possible because being a 28-year-old man, it would be very easily so shield it away from your family. the family seems very innocent to me. >> the restaurant owner said he thought the man asleep on his bar stool seemed homeless and innocent, but then he recognized his beard and called police. >> i was thinking is this the same guy that's just watching on the news, and he's the same guy just sleeping in front of my bar. >> reporter: that's when the gun battle began and rahami was

captured. >> ultimately the stpt was hit and two of our officers were hit. >> the police chief praises the actions of his officers. he says while police train for scenarioings like this, it's still stir real. >> the human side of you says there's no way this could be for real, there's no way this could be happening here in our town. but in this case, it was our town and it was our guy and officers are alive. >> harry baynes the bar owner came to the u.s. 20 years ago from india. he told us earlier he did what any american would by calling authorities. he also says that police are the true heros of this frightening arrest and capture. >> and nbc news has learned more

about rahami's family, a woman in edison she's the mother of his child. she petitioned family court for full custody of their son. he went to the chelsea snabltd in new york to see the bombing site firsthand. 22 people were injured in chelsea when a bomb went off saturday night. everyone is okay. the first explosive device went off in a trash can in seaside park. tonight there are new security procedures taking place there. citing the ongoing fbi investigation. one resident told us the fbi remonthed recording equipment from surveillance cameras near the bombing site. >> there are too many people skaerd and they cancelled the

celebration. >> i don't like this climate and know nothing whether or not you're safe. >> local officials are also trying to figure out what they're going to do with trash cans during large events and whether they should be covered up. to the latest now on friday's shooting rampage in west philadelphia, today an emotional sergeant sylvia young was greeted by her fellow officers lined up outside penn presbyterian medical center. she was sitting outside the patrol car. she was hit in the arm, the shoulder and torso. fellow officers called it a miracle she's alive. >> she joins us live from penn presbyterian medical center, with more on this. >> reporter: the police commissioner today called her a heck of a police officer. she has 19 years on the force

and he says she wants to return after she has recovered. today, though, it was about taking a moment to honor her. when sergeant sylvia young came through the doors, her colleagues were waiting for her. wheeled over to a waiting suv, she held a hand, the emotion of the moment on her face. >> doing very well, obviously overtaken with emotion right now, skiing all comrades out here wishing her well as she goes overwhelm. >> reporter: she was shot in a rampage friday night when nicholas glenn fired at her vehicle, hitting her in the shoulder, arm and torso. it's a scene familiar with officer jesse hartnett. >> i couldn't believe when the doors opened the amount of support that she has. >> like srlgt young, he took cover in the front seat. >> you're wearing a vest,

you'reing a gun belt, honestly you can't go forward too far. >> hartnett just had his ninth surgery, now sergeant young forging her own road to recovery. >> it's just nothing short of miraculous that she is even here to receive this kind of warm welcoming and thankfully his -- >> while philadelphia police were glad to be able to honor the sergeant today, the commissioner says they are also remembering the young woman shot that night who did not survive. live in west philadelphia, nbc 10 news. >> and the other police officer shot friday night is already recovering at home, the university of pennsylvania officer edward miller attended a police fundraising event last night. nbc 10 had a chance to speak with officer miller who said being an officer is in his blood and he will be back soon. he was shot three times, once in the hip, bow and ankle. today we spoke with the wife

of a bouncer who was also shot. his name is marteese washington, his wife tells us he's still reing in the hospital. to a first alert traffic warning, a new popular exit off the betsy ross bridge. >> the i-95 south exit will be shut down, police are rebuilding that interchange to rebuild that ramp. there's two other ways to go, follow bridge street exit or take the exit at allegheny avenue. >> you can expect delays on lincoln drive, one southbound lane and the shoulder will be closed from wayne avenue to green street. the closure starts at 7:00 a.m., it will last until next friday night september 30th. crews will be working on a water main. turning to the weather, summer's almost officially over,

sunday. i'll have more information coming up in my full forecast. to decision 2016, donald trump is focusinging on hillary clinton while talking got the boomings in and nrng new jersey. trump told a crowd in north carolina isis happened on hillary clinton's watch. meanwhile donald trump is making another trip to delaware county later this week. the public rally will be at the sun city studios. you can sign up for tickets on the website. and today hillary clinton did fonot have any public event. this morning the clinton campaign held a conference call with national security advisors about the bombing. clinton told reporters now is not the time for extreme proposals, adding that's what terrorists are aiming for. and a new nbc news poll shows hillary clinton regained momentum once she returned from the campaign trail. the poll of likely voters showed

now, we do have some clouds that will eventually pushoff shore, we have cooler temperatures, much clearer to end this workweek, looks like we don't have any showers in the forecast at least not until next week, above average for the next couple of days, upper 80s on friday, low 80sly saturday, then a lot cooler by saturday and sunday as a cold front dips on down. so 80s and muggy right now, but we do have much cooler temperatures by next week. so be ready for that. get those jackets handy here. here is that cold pattern dipping down from the northwest. we could see some 40s on sunday into monday. we do have dry conditions for the next several days. overnight lows trending in the 60s mainly. then saturday into sunday, seeing some 50s and coolest day of course coming up sunday into monday. overnight lows it looks like we
