and the yellow showing us that steadier rainfall that is actually getting quite a bit laefr for the evening commute. take a look at what also is heading our way from the atlantic, we have for rain moving in from offshore, and that's really giving heavy rain to parts of delaware that have already seen the very heavy rain earlier this morning. sussex county dealing with those yellow and orange coloring, that's the heaviest of the rain, precip rains close to an inch to a inch and a half and hour. sus sec county is under that flood warning, for an additional 2 to 4 inches of rain possible. flooding is going to be a concern for parts of the area, we'll talk more about timing of the rain coming up. take a look at the scene, we're going to show it to you now after a new jersey transit train slammed into a platform full of passengers. the crash was so powerful, it caused part of the station to

in and out of hoboken is suspended this afternoon. at least one person was killed when a speeding commuter train plowed into a platform. authorities say the train was going too fast, but it's not immediately clear what caused the crash. our team coverage continues with nbc's tammy lite -- >> we know that investigators are out here just in the last hour, they have been able to get in and really to piece together what exactly happened. we know that a train plowed into the station here in hoboken, new jersey. normally a train would only be going about 20 miles an hour when coming into the station. this train showed no signs of stopping and actually jumped on to the platform and a lot of
5:15 pm
debris fell. that's where that woman was injured. more than 100 people were transported having been hurt in this incident. >> just in the last few minutes we have learned from three different sources that the engineer's name is tommy gallagher, we know that he's critically injured, he's in the hospital right now, but he is speaking with investigators and correspondenting. we also know that he has no infractions here at the new jersey transit and he has no medical or criminal history that would raise any flags with investigators. back to you guys. background here, new jersey transit lags far behind other community railroads when it comes to installing positive train control technology. the railroad's most recent federal filings show no track segments in connection with that

>> it's in glassboro nig boboro that's why we have stormranger10 in glassboro tonight. right now we're looking closely at some heavy rain in south jers, delaware dealing with heavy rain, i'll show you that in a second. right near near laurel lake, rainfall rates about a half an inch an hour, and some of the heaviest amounts, sliding up into the philadelphia area, you see the yellow shading that goes from media, up through philadelphia international, up through new jersey, like harry hill, seeing that more moderate rainfall across the major interstates. so the rain is getting heavier and steadier for the evening commute, not good timing, but we have more of that moving onshore in parts of sussex county, also cape may county and other parts of delaware, we'll be seeing that heavy rain here soon. so take a look at southern delaware, this is one area where
5:19 pm
we have seen a lot of heavy rain so far today. precip rates anywhere from about an inch to an inch and a half. you see the yellows and oranges that indicates where the heaviest rain is falling, and a lot of it isly just sitting in sussex county. we do have a flood warning because of that, we have already seen a lot of rain here today. now we see an additional two to four inches so that could lead to localized flooding. estimated rainfall, from earlier this morning, take a look at what we have already seen in sussex county around 10 inches of rain at one point, and now we're going to be seeing more moving in, a little bit farther north in delaware, a little bit more than three inches. there you see the heaviest rain. it's getting heavier around the philadelphia area, no clearing any time soon, we're in are very wet, kind of gloomy, chilly, wet
5:20 pm
weather pattern. we do have a first alert out for the rain, with the potential for some localized flooding, also coastal flooding is going to be an issue. so the first alert is for delaware and new jersey. moderate coastal flooding is possible and again with the heavy rain, we could see flash flooding similar to what we're starting to see again in parts of sussex county in delaware. here's future cast. that's 10:00 p.m. tonight, it's not going toen up much, tomorrow morning we have rain around for the morning commute, showers for the afternoon, make sure you have your umbrella, and it's going to be windy and chilly. the clouds are stuck, and the showers are going to stick around too for your saturday. not a washout, we'll see periods of lighter rain. sunday it's going to be much improved weather, with temperatures in the upper 70s. you see going into the weekend, it is going to be a cool one.

commute this evening. but the heaviest is still confined into parts of southern delaware where they do not need the rain because we have already seen up to about 8 to 10 inches in some parts of sussex county. we could seen see more because precip rates are anywhere near an inch to an ninch and a quarter. and addition m two to four inches of rain is possible on top of what we already saw today which is why we're talking about the potential for flash flooding. take a look at our weather pattern, we're not going to be breaking out of this until the end of this weekend or early next week, we're going to keep the rain and the wind and the forecast. we'll talk more it about the timing of when the rain will end and your weekend forecast coming up. the delaware state fire
