>> this house in havertown. >> the first alert weather team has the forecast for your neighborhood. let's begin with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> if your plans include 80 degree temperatures and clear skies, you're not going to get it. 58 degrees in philadelphia, we got cloudy skies everywhere. you can see the pictures, the temperatures at most, 63 degrees, the average high is at least 10-degree above that, there's been way too much rain in kent county an sussex county in delaware. we had the first alert out since the beginning of the week telling you this was the area that was the most vulnerable. and boy, did they get hilt hard. the live radar shows just some

sprinkles of drizzle and light rain across parts of the area, so many areas are not seeing rain at the moment. but this area of moisture down in southern virginia, moving up toward washington, is what we're going to have to be watching during the evening hours. and later on tonight. and into the morning. you can see some more showers around, but not a whole lot of heavy rain. that really doesn't make for a pretty start to the weekend, though. and erika martin has more on what to expect for the weekend. >> we do have unsettled weather through most of the weekend. that stalled boundary will eventually offshore, but our weekend forecast looks like this, it's not the best forecast i have seen, however we're looking at at least a clearing by sunday. 67 degrees, that's the expected high temperature in philadelphia, with some clouds and scattered showers, not very organized, but not going to be

completely dry for the weekend. my pick of the weekend would happen to be sunday where we're seeing more showers and temperatures dropping out in the 70s. we're seeing the threat of some stronger downpours moving through parts of southern new jersey, the shoreline, that' for sure, notice some oranges and some reds denoting the threat of some isolated thunderstorms. if you look at the bottom of your screen, you will see the neighborhood forecast, you will notice how we're seeing a break in those clouds and those showers as they continue to work their way northeastward, telling us things are going to get a better. more sunshine in the forecast. as glenn mentioned. coming up we'll have our full forecast. in the meantime, we're following breaking news out of new jersey. >> you are about to start paying more four gas in the keystone state.

>> this was a late development today, governor christie is speaking right now with both the senate president and the speaker of the assembly, in trenton in which he has announced the gas tax is going up, 23 cents per gallon, what this means for the average driver is that you're going to be paying more than $100 a year if you have been driving more than 12,000 miles a year. this construction across new jersey putting a lot of people out of work, but there was a lot of resis tax to that tax increase. >> that would be financed by a 23% increase in the gas tax. i'm also proud of the fact that we are financing these expenditures in a responsible way. we have not had a gas tax increase in the state since 1988.

>> again, 23 cents more per gal long, there will be a change in the sales tax but it will be gradual and it's a model decrease, that's going down to 6.8% starting in january. a final goodbye, today wilmington mourned the loss of two firefighters who died serving their community. lieutenant christopher leach and firefighter jerry fickes were both killed fighting a fire last saturday. >> here's more on how these two men are being remembered. >> reporter: an emotional end to a very emotional week. this is our second firefighter funeral just this afternoon. the sadness was excruciating,

hundreds and hundreds of family, friends and firefighters from all over the country came to say goodbye to lieutenant christopher leach. >> some of these daughter's classmates came to show support. >> we have 367 girls and every one of them are back at school now praying for their sister. >> reporter: leach died last saturday in a row home fire, he heard someone might be trapped so he went in. investigators now say this woman wholied in the house set the fire intentionally while drunk and angry. two other firefighters were injured in the fire. firefighter jerry fickes died when he went in to look for leach. >> after 9/11, he really felt this was his calling to become a firefighter. >> jerry fickes was in finance before he was called to fight fires. he said jerry would probably do it all again if he had to, they

were firefighters. >> not one of them would hesitate. every one of them would do the same thing did the other day. >> reporter: now jerry fickes' funeral happened today. and people would always ask him about financial issues and he decided after 9/11 to become a full-time firefighter. let's talk about what's going to happen at 1:00 tomorrow on the riverfront, there's going to be a huge memorial. there's going to be firefighters from all over the nation, there's going to be a jumbotron, that is right next to the chase center. so yet another emotional day here in delaware, and everyone still very concerned for the firefighters still in the hospital at croshere burn center. and just yesterday a woman was arrested and charged with setting the fire that killed those two firefighters. they say 27-year-old beatriz fana-ruiz was angry drunk and on medication when she started the fire in the basement of her

father's row home last weekend. now to some breaking news out of philadelphia. the police commissioner just revealing new information about a stabbing spree that ended with philadelphia police killing the suspect. police say they still haven't found the gun they believe the suspect had, but they have found all of the stabbing tools he used. officers shot and killed christopher sowell saturday night. they say he was on a stabbing rampage, more than 100 shots were fired killing the suspect. that may be a training issue that needs to be arrested. we'll have a live report at 6:00 >> donald trump and hillary clinton square off on twitter. the latest war of words began in the wee hours of the morning with trump once again attacking a former miss universe calling her disgusting and telling people to check out a sex tape he claims she made, but there's

to help them understand what caused that crash. >> reporter: as investigators cautiously search for evidence and information, crews work to secure and stabilize hoboken station. >> we are currently making sure that the scene is as safe as possible. >> reporter: a day after new jersey transit train 1614 slammed into and hurtled over the bumper at the end of the track, collapsing the roof and compromising the integrity of the 107-year-old building. >> an explosion of concrete dust, electrical wires. >> reporter: national transportation safety board agents have been able to recover the black box event recorder. there were two cameras mounted on the outside of the train. agents also hope to learn more from the train's engineer, 48-year-old tommy gallagher, has already talked with police and senior officials briefed on the

investigation tell nbc news they found no red flags in his past, no infractions, no medical issues and no criminal history as they try to figure out how and why it happened. the collision injured more than 100 in and outside of the train, 34-year-old fabiola decrone was killed. she had just dropped her toddler off at the daycare center just brocks away. as the investigation continues, the ntsb expects to be at the crash site for a week to ten days. we have new details tonight on the story behind this video out of south jersey after a three-week investigation. police in ocean county have charged the driver of this fedex truck with aggravated assault. police say the fedex driver

tried to force the school bus off the road in lake land as the bus tried to pass him. the school bus received a lesser charge for illegal passing. amiddays of heavy rain a sink hole has opened up in beth lebethlehem, why maybes can't get back in their homes.

sure, especially on saturday, sunday looks a lot better. weather stories include steady rain still for the afternoon and evening hours, in fact overnight hours in just one moment, i will show you the threat of some heavier downpours and isolated thunderstorms, so flooding concerns continue here through the overnight hours, at least until 2:00 a.m., early thunderstorms especially along the shoreline. hints of sunshine, so certainly my pick of the weekend. we do have this coastal flood advisory in effect until 12:00 a.m. in atlantic and cumberland county. flood warning in effect for kent and sussex county. doppler estimated rainfall totals, impressive to say the least. now it looks like sussex could be could or saw eight to about 12 inches of rainfall total so far.

a little less farther north, newcastle county seeing about four, 4 1/2 inches of rainfall totals. we have that stationary boundary just offshore which is why those rain showers and those clouds are just not budging. if you look to the bottom of your screen you will see your local forecast. we're seeing an inch to an inch and a half of rainfall. in total chester countying about three in -- seeing mainly 60s, upper 60s for allentown and coatesville. dover, a pair of sixes and conditions really pretty much going to stay in the 60s, overnight all due to this cloud coverage here. so satellite radar image picking up on some thick soupy clouds, and some greens denoting those showers pushing just onshore and noting that we're not going to be done here, because hour by hour, picking up on showers moving across the area, notice

those thick juicy clouds once again not budging, we're seeing breaks in these showers not organized. we start to see some thunderstorms for early tomorrow. we'll see areas of patchy fog through the overnight hours into early tomorrow morning. conditions look a lot better by sunday, so that's something to look forward to. not going to be a completely dry second half of the weekend, but certainly going to be a lot better. so your 10-day on 10, looking a lot better by monday and tuesday, seeing more sunshine in the forecast. temperatures pretty much in the 70s, we're seeing 60s by wednesday and thursday and friday, and the potential for some more rain showers for next thursday into friday and coming up in just a bit, chief

the teen accused of opening fire inside a south carolina elementary school faced a judge today. he's also accused of murdering his father. the 14-year-old is being charged as a juvenile. he faces three counts of

caribbean at the moment an if we get a close-up, you can see the eye very clearly, so it's definitely a category 4 and it could strengthen some more as it starts to weaken. the pressure has dropped tremendously in the last 24 hours. isles moving much slower than yesterday. by tomorrow, they're still expecting a category 4. this is jamaica where it comes ashore as a major hurricane. tuesday it's just off the coast of cuba this is going to take days and days and days and days, before it comes close to the u.s. so there's plenty of time to watch it. so see what the computer models are showing, very clear path up toward eastern cuba and the bahamas. then as we go to the middle of

from the train's black box recorders, but one of the devices is proving difficult to extract from the record. >> reporter: good stay from hoboken where the investigation is very much now centered on what the engineer saw and knew and what he did as that train came barreling into hoboken station yesterday afternoon. one person killed more than 100 people injured. the engineer is 48 years old. his name is tommy gallagher, he talked to police last night at the hospital before being released. the ntsb investigators hoping to find out what happened inside that cab, did he lose situational awareness, was there a medical event, was there a catalyst of some sort to make the train go speeding into hoboken station. stay with nbc 10 for the very latest on the ntsb's investigation. nbc nightly news will have a look at today's developments from the new jersey transit train crash. that's coming up at 6:30.

camden county last week. five officers were injured in that incident. rahami is charged with five count of attempted murder of a police officer and unlawful procession of a weapon. >> ready, down, down, down. >> look at them go, new jersey state troopers taking part in the 22-push challenge. dozens of officers right there dropped to the ground, tested their strength today in west trenton. the challenge raises awareness for post traumatic stress disorder and the 22 veteran who is commit suicide every day. the news from lehigh valley, the people who make marshmallow peeps have returned to work. they walked off the job more than three weeks ago. the union offered to return to work yesterday after the company filed a federal lawsuit claiming the strike violated their contract.

talks between both sides will continue into next month. a drenching in delaware where we did see lots of rain showers for today, and conditions were definitely unsettled as we were tracking that cold front just off shore. so it looks like those rain showers will continue to stick around. make sure you hang on to your umbrella through the evening hours, and into tomorrow. because it doesn't look like conditions will improve, not at least until sunday, otherwise a live look outside, philadelphia, we're seeing some areas of patchy fog already developing, this is what i was talking about earlier. conditions will not be very clear through the overnight hours, something to consider through tonight into tomorrow. current temperatures mainly in the 60s, current wind speeds 15 to 20 miles an hour. wind gusting up to 20, 25 miles an hour. if you look at the bottom of your screen, you will see your

local neighborhood forecast. flooding concerns continuing through the overnight hours. saturday, i do think we will see some isolated thunderstorms moving through, especially for southern parts of new jersey, along the shoreline, brace for the rain showers, i will show you those in a moment in our hour by hour forecast. on sunday, not completely dry, but some hints of sunshine, so to look forward to. a coastal flood advisory in effect until saturday at 2:00 a.m. and a flood warning until 6:00 p.m. this evening. notice these doppler estimated rainfall totals. we're seeing rainfall for parts of southern delaware, eight to ten inches, newcastle county seeing about four to six inches as well. farther north we're seeing lower numbers, but we're not done yet. keep in, we still have some showers moving in from the southwest towards the northeast.

everything again improving by sunday. so when does it clear? we're still tracking these showers and hour by hour forecasts showing us what we can expect. now satellite radar image also showing us something really interesting, because notice, we're seeing some lightning strikes and some isolated thunderstorms approaching from the southwest there. so all this moving through the atlantic region, through the delaware valley and will be affecting us early tomorrow morning, locally seeing those clouds really stubborn and thick and eventually clear, but that's not going to be until sunday. so here is your hour by hour forecast, starting at 6:30 p.m., we're seeing some breaks in those showers, overnight hours, we're starting to see those heavier downpours moving on through. oranges and reds showing we do have a threat of those thundershowers, we're not going to be completely dry tomorrow. better conditions by sunday. so your 10-day on 10, keeping it in the 60s by tomorrow.
