plus pence's profanity. why donald trump's running mate said a four-letter word hours before the vice presidential debate. >> announcer: nbc10 news starts now. no laughing matter. tonight several students are facing criminal charges, accused of using clowns to threaten violence at a school. good evening, i'm keith jones. these threats have led to concern all over our viewing area. now, nbc10 didn't initially cover the social media post because we didn't want to spread unfounded rumors. but now there are these new arrests to tell you about. nbc10's denise nakano is live in washington township. what have you learned about this? >> reporter: well, keith, two of those arrests happened here in washington township, and there's some serious consequences for this 13 and 14-year-olds. a wave of creepy clown posts had popped up on social media with threats of murder and mayhem. police say young teenage pranksters were behind the posts, making threats from

philadelphia to south jersey that were nothing to laugh about. >> making general threats, saying, hey, we're coming to your school. we're going to kill you. we're going to kidnap you. don't walk alone. >> reporter: investigators tracked some of the threats to a 13-year-old girl from bunker hill middle school in washington township. police say her threats targeted a specific student. >> i know where you live, i'm going to come to your house, kidnap you and kill you. >> reporter: and a 14-year-old washington township boy was arrested for threats made over the weekend, showing clowns with weapons, threatening they're coming, don't walk alone. some of the hokes caused parents to keep their kids home from school today and police to add extra patrols. >> they are being charged with cyber harassments, an indictable charge, and they're going to have to go to court. >> reporter: philadelphia also saw its share of clown threats. a case involving a 13-year-old girl who named specific philadelphia schools as being forwarded to the district attorney's office for possible charges. >> very serious when you talk about our children, our schools, and our communities. >> reporter: and in each of

these cases, the students claimed the threats were nothing more than pranks and they did not plan to hurt anyone. but as young as they are, they will now have to face school district officials, police, and a judge. reporting live from washington township, i'm denise nakano, nbc10 news. meanwhile, skyforce10 over the scene of a shooting in ventener, atlantic county. police say at least one person was shot. the shooting happened just after 8:00. there's no word on the severitity of the victim's injuries or motive at this time. look at this [ bleep ] on the expressway. roosevelt boulevard on a big wheel. >> just so happened to maneuver my way around and get up to the front of the traffic, and i saw the guy on the triek. i'm like what the heck? >> reporter: hakeem edwards pulled over and shot the video. >> he looked at me and smiled as he was rolling by. >> reporter: edwards says he didn't see any police cars as the rider pedaled to the school. nbc10 found another clip of the rider as you see drivers maneuvering out of the way to avoid an accident. we showed this unbelievable clip to bicyclists in philly. >> he can't be serious. >> not only is it dangerous, it's insane and no helmet. >> have you seen anything like that before? >> i actually saw two people on their indigo bikes. they accidentally took the wrong ramp and ended up on the expressway somehow. >> reporter: nbc10 got dash cam video of those two cyclists on the vine street expressway last summer. they didn't face any legal trouble. as for the rider on road develop, police say they're looking into the video that's getting a lot of attention. >> i already heard about it,

genius and lawful, but even the republican nominee admits it's unfair. >> thousands and thousands of pages represent unfairness, the unfairness of the tax laws is unbelievable. >> that was hours ago in colorado after a bombshell report alleged trump may have avoided paying personal income taxes for almost two decades after posting losses of $916 million in 1995. surprising? no, says local cpa kevin ryan. >> i don't think they took advantage of anything. they just used what was able to be utilized at that point in time. >> here's the gist. the gigantic loss or tax deduction in '95 could have allowed trump to legally avoid paying federal income taxes for up to 18 years. that's according to "the new york times." >> so the next $916 million that he would earn in income or someone would earn in income wouldn't even be taxable for federal purposes. >> he says it's a benefit of real estate investing, but ryan also says we need to learn more about trump's filings.

just [ bleep ] fun to watch. i'll tell you what. >> pence was speaking in colorado tonight. tomorrow he'll go head to head with the democrats' vice presidential nominee, tim kaine. the debate happens in his home state of virginia. nbc10's lauren makeky is in virginia tonight, and she'll bring you live in depth coverage before and after the debate at longwood university. you can watch the debate at 9:00 tomorrow night right here on nbc10 and then tune in for nbc10 news at 11:00 for context and analysis. let's talk about the weather now. the wrath of hurricane matthew. it's already being felt tonight as the category 4 storm bears down on haiti. tonight matthew is pounding the southwestern shores of the caribbean island nation. the storm is already blamed for at least four deaths, including two fishermen in haiti. officials say as many as 40 inches of rain are possible in some areas. tonight nbc10 caught up with some local travelers just returning from the caribbean.

>> panicking a little bit, yeah. we were a little bit also because we didn't think we were going to get out of there. but then nobody offered us another day so i figured, okay, it's time to go. >> the haitian government is urging residents to take cover, but unfortunately many are refusing to leave their homes. here's a look at hurricane matthew right now on nbc10 first alert radar. meteorologist sheena parveen has been tracking storm. >> it is still a category 4 hurricane. in fact it's gotten a little bit stronger with the 11:00 p.m. update. here's a close-up look at it. the center, the eye, is approaching haiti. there's rugged terrain through this part of haiti and also cuba, which we expect it to at least past near, which ultimately would lessen the intensity just a bit. and then it will be entering the warm waters near the bahamas. but hurricane warnings are up with winds over 140 miles an hour. the main concern, tremendous amounts of rain and mudslides in

these island countries. so we will be watching. this hurricane continue on a northerly track. take a look at the 11:00 p.m. update. 145 mile an hour sustained winds moving to the north at seven miles an hour. here is the most updated track of the storm. by thursday evening, it's expected -- to land. it will have our area not yet in the cone because we're still too far out in time. computer models are keeping it still on that same trend closer to our area. by about sunday or monday. but you see a lot of these models a little farther offshore. we'll have more updates's we go through the rest of the week. closer look at the forecast locally and a cool down coming up. today marks the beginning of

a blind woman's recovering tonight after she was attacked and robbed unside her new york city apartment building. this is the surveillance video right here of the attack.

now, police have told us many things about it thus far. that the suspect followed the woman into her building. you see the attacker go after her, then punching her in the head several times. a neighbor heard her screams for help. you see him there at the bottom, chased off the attacker after that. >> he was disgusting. like how could you do that? but the fact that she has a disability, and you preyed on her. >> the suspect stole two gold chains. the woman, who has been blind since she was 15, suffered minor injuries and is expected to be okay. to this now. kim kardashian back in new york tonight after she was robbed at gunpoint in paris. paris officials say five armed robbers dressed as police broke into the kardashians hotel. two men bound and gagged kardashian, and threw her in the bathroom. the robbers made off with nearly $10 million in jewelry. we caught up with director tyler

perry tonight in philadelphia. he cast kardashian in his movie temptation in 2013. he said this is a concern all celebrities face. >> thanks to what a lot of celebrities deal with in this society, and it's very scary. i wish them all the best. >> kim was unharmed in the incident. her husband, kanye west, abruptly ended a concert in new york yesterday when he got that news. he's scheduled to play a show tomorrow night at the wells fargo center. back to the threat in the tropics. hurricane matthew a storm threatening to become a humanitarian disaster. right now the storm is bearing down on haiti and jamaica, and it's already having an impact. you can see just how big it is here on the radar. nbc's michael spears is in kingston, jamaica, tonight. >> reporter: dangerous storm surge. hurricane matthew felt along jamaica's coastline monday. >> it's going to be bad.

>> reporter: earlier in the day a close call. a kid nearly pulled out to sea, saved. east of kingston, rains from hurricane matthew caused flooding and people evacuated their homes to shelters. >> we also have mountainous issues. >> reporter: a men ber of parliament on the eastern end of the island, where nearly 500 people turned to shelters to escape flooding. >> we are trying to make last minute arrangements to make that the shelter are proper facilities and to keep the people as comfortable as possible. >> reporter: we tried to take a helicopter there but ran into bad weather and had to turn around. kids across the island will stay home for another day tuesday as officials warn tropical storm conditions from hurricane matthew may still cause devastating landslides and more flooding. >> still rain, still a lot of winds. we know what this juan one is g

to be. >> reporter: today people looking to fly in or out of kingston had to make other arrangements. the international airport is clur currently closed because of hurricane matthew. it will decide in the morning whether to reopen. michael spears, nbc10 news. meteorologist sheena parveen has been tracking matthew on its way up here. it's probably going to affect us at some point. let's focus on the overnight first, sheena. what's it looking like? >> yeah, keith. because we are watching potentially another round of patchy fog for the morning commute. so we'll look at the morning forecast first here because some of you may run into some patchy fog. it will be a cool start to your day tomorrow. so the bus stop forecast, it's going to be a cool one. 52 in exton, 52 allentown, wilmington, 56 degrees. if you are in redding, right around 51 degrees by 7:30 in the morning. another thing we're watching this week, tomorrow and wednesday especially, cooler temperatures than today. we're talking about highs in the upper 60s, and you'll notice that with your seven-day scrolling at the bottom of your screen, the next two days will

be cooler, but we expect to stay dry as well. 70 degrees. redding, 69 tomorrow. still looking at mostly cloudy skies. can't rule out a stray shower. i think most of the area will stay dry, though. long port, 68. if you're in dover, 69 for a high temperature. so feeling a lot more like fall tomorrow. even as we go into wednesday. we also have several dry days ahead. so really for the rest of the week, don't expect much in the way of rain at all in the forecast. our best chance will be tomorrow with an isolated shower at best. we're also of course watching in the tropics. matthew impacting jamaica and haiti at this moment. again, the main threat there, heavy rain. lots of rain. massive flooding and potentially lots of landslides too. so we will be seeing that storm continuing to track north, potentially affecting us. here's what our future weather looks like for the rest of this week. tomorrow mostly cloudy, chance of an isolated shower there. by wednesday, we're fairly dry.

just partly to mostly cloudy skies for wednesday. thursday, we're dry again, but we're going to see actually more sunshine even on friday, so that will be a nice change. at the same time, we're going to be watching matthew right near the bahamas and also parts of florida. that's by thursday. now at that point, it's going to continue moving up to the north. so we'll take a look at the most updated track here. here is a look at matthew right now. it's moving towards haiti at the moment. still in the caribbean. it's moving to the north 7 miles an hour. still fairly slow mover, but the max winds are 145 miles an hour, making it a category 4, stronger than it was this afternoon, though. by thursday, 8:00 p.m., could be category 3 over the bahamas. could be impacting florida, at least with tropical storm force winds. that's what it looks like right now. but then we go through early part of the weekend, and that's where we could be seeing north and south carolina especially affected by this. it could be category 2 hurricane. still far out in time. we are not in the cone yet because it is so far out in time. we will, however, be watching
