defend trump. ryan says his focus over the next month will be to keep a republican majority in the house. ryan held a conference call this morning for his fellow republican lawmakers. he says he will spend, quote, his entire energy making sure that hillary clinton does not get a blank check with a democrat-controlled congress. later ryan's camp says he is not conceding that clinton will win the white house. it didn't take long, about two hours, for donald trump to respond on twitter. he tweeted, quote, paul ryan should spend more time on balancing the budget, jobs, and illegal immigration, and not waste his time on fighting the republican nominee. today trump is making the push for pennsylvania, speaking outside pittsburgh this afternoon where he praised steelers quarterback ben roethlisberger. >> we love big ben. big ben is a friend of mine. big ben is great. we play golf together.

>> trump's comments come days after a tape surfaced of him making lewd comments about women. at last night's debate he continued to refer to it as "locker room talk." meanwhile hillary clinton spent the day after the debate in detry oitdetroit. clinton said trump doubled down on his excuse about the video as "locker room talk." >> women and men across america know that is just a really weak excuse for behaving badly and mistreating people. >> tomorrow hillary clinton plans to visit another battleground state, florida. while clinton was in detroit, she brought a famous face to philadelphia and montgomery. actress natalie portman is trying to get women to register to vote. nbc 10 stopped by one of her events at a restaurant in jenkintown. tomorrow is the deadline to register to vote if you live in the keystone state.

and the election is now just 29 days away. that is four weeks from tomorrow. tonight, the fallout from the tape of donald trump and billy bush degrading women. that video released on friday from 11 years ago had a ripple effect on the latest nbc news/"wall street journal" poll. 500 registered voters were surveyed saturday and sunday before the debate last night. clinton now leads by double digits in a four-way matchup. she has 46% of the vote compared to donald trump's 35. more than 50% of the people said the audiotape should be an issue in the election. so who won last night's debate? voters we spoke to are not feeling like there was a clear-cut winner. nbc 10's deanna durante joins us live from villanova. deanna, what did those undecided voters tell you. >> reporter: they like to call themselves voters who just aren't sure they're going to vote at this point. many of them told us they were

frustrated and embarrassed by what they saw in the debate. >> i know who i'm voting for. >> reporter: voters say the choice won't be easy. >> the lesser of two evils. i think i'm voting against somebody and not for somebody. >> reporter: many are planning to cast ballots come november 8th but not all say they're going to be voting for president. >> a republican. i cannot support him. >> if you have voters who are put off by donald trump but can't find a way to vote for hillary clinton and don't want to vote for a third party candidate because they feel that candidate is going to lose, do they vote at all? the danger for republicans downballot is that they don't, and if they don't, those are lost votes. >> reporter: he says with local republicans pulling support from donald trump, it may not mean the votes will automatically go towards hillary clinton. >> do you know who you want to vote for? >> nobody. it's horrible. >> reporter: and political

experts say with tomorrow's deadline for voter registration looming, it could swing in other directions here. they say the democrats have been mobilizing all election season to get people to register, where they say that donald trump has been relying on the gop. and with so many prominent republicans pulling back support, that may be lost votes for trump. deanna durante, nbc 10 news, live at villanova. 65 million people watched last night's debate. there is one more chance for the candidates to face off against each other onstage, the third and final debate will be next wednesday, october 19th at the university of nevada, las vegas. nbc 10's lauren mayk will continue to travel to the debates and will have live reports from vegas next week. turning to breaking news right now in the west oak lane section of philadelphia, skyforce 10 live over an apartment fire on shelton avenue. we're told there was smoke coming from the fourth floor. firefighters are on the roof,

putting this fire out. we have not gotten any information on injuries but we'll keep you updated on this fire. now to this dramatic rescue in north carolina following hurricane matthew. a coast guard helicopter team rescued a man stranded on the roof. streets look more like rivers, even animals became stuck. these deer are sitting on what's left of a grassy area near a home resembling an island now, just surrounded by water. the rain in our region has moved out but there's plenty of cold air coming in overnight. ear our first frost. nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with a look at our weather for the morning. >> jacqueline, it's a combination of the clear skies. everybody's got clear skies. a cool air mass to begin with. winds that are getting lighter. and then the low humidity. temperature can drop. at its maximum, it's down to 63 in philadelphia. the high was 65.

it's only 59 in some of the suburbs. and the lehigh valley right now, those are the areas most likely to get some frost. the advisory for all the inland counties in new jersey and in pennsylvania away from the city of philadelphia, which keeps in the heat with all that concrete. there are the clear skies. you can see there's not a cloud anywhere around. that's going to allow the temperature to drop considerably. so tomorrow morning, 43 degrees in philadelphia. but we warm up quickly to 58 degrees by noon. 37 degrees down at the ground, if it goes calm it can be 32 and get frost on the plants, for example. but it warms up to 57 by noon. lehigh valley same story, 37 degrees at 6:00 a.m. and we could even be in the 30s in parts of new jersey at that hour as well. we'll see how much it warms up this week and if they're going to be any more rain in just a few minutes. >> glenn, we'll see you then.

the trump taj mahal is now out of business and almost 3,000 workers are out of work. gamblers pressed their luck one final time in atlantic city before those doors closed just before 6:00 a.m. nbc 10's south jersey reporter ted greenberg was the only television reporter inside the casino as the final bets were placed. >> we will get through it. you will survive. >> reporter: on the boardwalk, tears and anger as the doors were locked at atlantic city's trump taj mahal. the casino was nearly empty when it closed at 5:59 this morning. >> just a sad day. >> reporter: employee dee dee williams was here for the taj mahal's final day, and its first in 1990, when the then-owner donald trump called it the eighth wonder of the world. >> it was beautiful. >> reporter: 2800 peeplople are

losing their jobs since the closure. about a thousand of those workers have been on strike since july 1st. their union and management earned current taj owner carl icahn failed to reach a deal on restoring health and pension benefits eliminated in bankruptcy court. >> we gave them a proposal to keep the place open. they were real adamant on closing. >> reporter: in a statement, icahn said today is a sad day for atlantic city. he says after the last offer was rejected, it was simply impossible to find a workable path forward that would not have required funding additional investments and losses in excess of $100 million over the next year. some are convinced the casino won't stay closed for long. >> on this picket line, we're one family. we've been here since day one. we'll be here when he reopens. >> reporter: icahn's statement made no mention of the property's future. when i reached out to management here, they had nothing further to say.

in atlantic city, i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. there are now just seven casinos open down the shore. since 2014, five casinos have closed. the atlantic trump, rebel, trump plaza, show boat, and today the trump taj mahal. jury select began today in a whistle blower lawsuit. mike mcqueary is suing penn state for defamation. his one-time boss, gerry sandusky, was convicted of molesting boys. opening statements are scheduled for next week. princeton university is investigating after racist e-mails were sent to students and faculty over the weekend. school officials believe the e-mails were sent from off campus serves. according to "the daily

principals up princetonian," one of the e-mails had the subject line "no child left white, vote trump." it accuses princeton professors of being anti-white. the university says it deplores these revolting messages. 676 will be closed in both directions, part of the ongoing construction project to fix bridges around town. it will be closed from 11:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. detour signs will be posted. and the schuylkill river trail will get bigger and better thanks to a $3 million state grant. pennsylvania governor tom wolf made the announcement on the trail in center city this morning. the path along the schuylkill river will be extended a little more than two miles to the bridge in southwest philly. >> we want to make sure every pennsylvanian is within 15 minutes of a nature trail.

>> i'm 21. i have lupus. i have a 1-year-old and i'm pregnant now. >> reporter: as you can imagine, she appreciated the victory church folks putting her up in this rv on the back of that ir proper back of their property. >> reporter: the church isn't zoned to let homeless people stay here. the church could be find $100 per day. the county has told the church they can apply for rezoning to make this land some sort of a legal campground status. the church says it's expensive for them to go down that path. they're hoping to work out a compromise with the county before the fines start flying. this, by the way, is the same church who wants to build a neighborhood of tiny houses to help people out of homelessness. many neighbors are clearly against that plan, saying the church donald trump have enough control of people who stay there. the church says at least in alexis's case, they're on her side, not the neighbors'. >> we have to choose as

into sunday, more so in delaware and south jersey. nothing but sunshine today. but it's cooling down. it's already down to 59 degrees in some parts of the lehigh valley. yeah, hopewell, 58. macungie, 58. allentown is already 57. bat bath, 57. those clouds out to the west are not getting anywhere near here. high pressure is right over the great lakes. that dry north wind, that's going to keep things dry, not only tonight into tomorrow, but really for most of the week here, because the rain chances are extremely low, not even 30%. any given day, all the way through saturday.

philadelphia, dover, atlantic city, reading, the same thing. if the rain chances were different, we would be able to show you that. that's what neighborhood weather is all about. in this case, all the neighborhoods are going to be dry for just about the entire week. let's show you the hour by hour. it's maybe a close call for some places, as we go into wednesday night, and then into thursday. there is a front that's going to be coming through. but watch what happens to this rain. by thursday afternoon, there are some showers in central pennsylvania, perhaps. but they look like they're going to be breaking up. prance the lehigh valley or poconos gets a little. here is the planner for the night tonight. the wind diminishing. that's going to allow the temperature to drop. exton 48 degrees by 8:00. that's a chilling down here. then into the 30s in many areas. 35 in reading, by 7:30 a.m.,

while it stays well into the 40s in philadelphia itself. and then the temperature jumps up during the late morning hours. you've got a beautiful afternoon with less wind than what we saw during the day today. the next few days, the temperature going up mostly in the morning, especially thursday morning. look how much warmer it is than it is tomorrow morning. that's quite a change. we've got one really chilly morning going for tomorrow. and then it becomes more seasonable for the next few days. we'll have the ten-day coming up later. i'm john clark from csn. we'll hear from eagles coach doug pederson. why the eagles believe the lions should not have gotten the ball after a fumble. and two young prospects whether have big roles for the flyers, next. planned parenthood.

i would support legislation in pennsylvania that would ban abortion and i would suggest we have penalties for doctors who perform them. would you put people in jail for performing abortions? at some point doctors performing abortions i think would be subject to that sort of penalty. dscc is responsible for the content of this advertising.

obviously i mean, i tried to give nelson a chance to make a play. i left it too far outside. the cornerback made a great play. >> i didn't do a great job of locating, the defender made a great play out of it. he got an interception. it sucks. i wanted to locate it better so i could have been the one to defend it and not let the result be an interception. the birds were the last team in the nfl to turn the ball over rung back ryan matthews fumbled. he was carrying the ball in the wrong hand. it should be in the right hand. the lions knock it loose. worst moment for a fumble. ryan says i bleeped up. the football could have been touching jason kelsey's body while he's out of bounds. t they don't believe the lions should have gotten the ball. >> dead ball. out of bounds. that's the rule. that was one of the things i wanted to make sure this morning that i was correct and accurate

in that ruling. and it's just one of those things. we can't cough the ball up. >> that is the point. lane johnson is going to hear from the nfl in the next few days about his possible suspension. flyers defenseman ratco was suspended six games. the flyers will have two 19-year-old rookies on the roster to start the season. they have made the team. these players are the first round draft picks in last year. one was the best defenseman in juniors. the other will be on the line. >> they made this team on their own, they're not on the team because anyone felt like politically or anything else. these kids made the team on merit. our plan is to keep them the whole year.
