"early today" starts right now. great being with you this morning. the offensive to retake the iraq city of mosul from isis has begun. the terror group has controlled iraq's second largest city for the past two years. iraqi prime minister says the time of victory has arrived. adding that isis would be punished in the city rebuilt. iraqi forces have surrounded the city cutting off any supply and escape routes. the long awaited battle is underway. >> reporter: that's right, frances, this has been a very, very anticipated battle. that is the culmination of all of the operations in iraq over the past two years. and the momentous speech he made just a few hours ago. he noted it's been under occupation for the past two years and this is the cleansing

operation but it's a complicated operation and not just strategically, but politically. there's so many different political moving parts. they're fighting the peshmurga, kurdish forces. shiite militia groups from southern iraq and the iraqi military leading the operation and piercing isis's defences to move into mosul. all of this is backed up by an american-led coalition advising from the ground. so, as you can see, it really is so many moving parts and likely to take weeks. >> certainly a crucial operation in the fight against isis. thank you. authorities are on the hunt for suspencts after gop head quarts in north carolina was fire bombed.

not seeing fog here. parts of the area getting light fog. the suburbs, for example, pottstown, four miles visibility, thicker in coatesville. not an issue in northeast philadelphia or mt. holly but in delaware and south jersey, fog under a mile visibility in wilmington. half a mile visibility in millville. and a few sprinkles this morning. we'll see a couple of them moving in. the suburbs have moved -- they've all been swinging past the trenton area, now drying out there. the few light showers will be falling apart. we don't have to worry about showers. the fog, that's not going to be an issue either. the temperatures will be taking off. we're in the 50s and 60s right now. 58 in new jersey. 61 in the çsuburbs. 60 in philadelphia. we should be in the 40s at this time of year at this hour. we should warm into the 60s. today, 80 degrees in delaware. upper 70s for new jersey in the lehigh valley. 80s for philadelphia and the suburbs and at the shore, you'll see partly sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s as well.

i'll go through these forecasts hour by hour to show you how quickly the showers move out and the temperatures move up. first, jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. jessie? >> we're starting off the morning with breaking news on the schuylkill expressway. cameras around university avenue showing that the eastbound side of the schuylkill is shut down right now. there was an earlier tractor-trailer accident and then an oil spill involved with the accident scene. a lot of cleanup under way. it's been like this for a couple hours now. you can see approaching the scene, diverting traffic off of the university avenue off ramp. the alternate, avoid the schuylkill expressway if you're headed eastbound. this traffic would be moving towards 95. if you're heading in that direction, get off there, take a left, head to the 34th street bridge and go to wharton street. you can ak cease the schuylkill expressway eastbound again. we'll keep you updated. we'll be back in ten minutes to do
