on the prowl is a mountain lion on the loose in our area? >> announcer: nbc10 news starts now. this is worse than watergate, and what does she get out of it? she gets to run for the presidency of the united states. explain that. explain that. >> donald trump slams hillary clinton, accusing the government of trying to cover up her e-mail scandal. good evening, i'm jim rosenfield. tonight the fbi and the state department are both denying allegations of a quid pro quo, but trump is still calling on a state department official to resign. he's also claiming the election is rigged despite no real evidence. and as he fights to change the conversation, his wife is speaking out about the very subject he's trying to change. nbc10 national correspondent brian mooar has the latest. ♪ >> reporter: in wisconsin, donald trump high lighted what supporters hope is a smoking gun in hillary clinton's private e-mails case.

>> the fbi documents undersecretary of state patrick kennedy made the request for altering classification as part of a quid pro quo, in other words, a deal. >> reporter: the fbi and state department both deny that claim. >> no quid pro quo. no exchange here. >> reporter: both agencies say an investigator wrongly linked separate issues. the fbi's request to send agents to iraq and the state department's request to leave a clinton e-mail declassified, which the fbi rejected. trump also repeated his claim the election is rigged, but used a 2012 report to suggest fraud is under way today. >> people that have died ten years ago are still voting. illegal immigrants are voting. >> reporter: while trump is trying to move beyond his 2005 comments on that access hollywood bus, wife melania says her husband was egged on by then host billy bush. >> egged on from the host to say dirty and bad stuff.

>> reporter: nbc has just announced bush will not be returning to his job on the "today" show. tomorrow hillary clinton's husband will campaign for her in our area. former president bill clinton is heading to montgomery county community college in bluebell. analysts say donald trump has no path to victory without pennsylvania and a new quinnipiac university poll has clinton ahead 47% to trump at 41%. >> i think she has to just stay the course. i think she has to, as the front-runner, she just has to not make any big mistakes and keep doing what she's doing. >> meanwhile, elected officials in philadelphia are pushing back against voter fraud allegations made by trump. a voter watchdog group gathered at city hall today. members of the aclu and other elected officials shot down claims that votes were stolen in philadelphia. the group stayed away from naming trump publicly but said the only damage to elections are those irresponsible accusations

made by candidates. >> we conduct a thorough audit and did an analysis of every election of all results and materials far beyond what's required by law. >> the officials say your vote is protected three different ways once it's cast and voting machines are not hooked up to the internet. tomorrow, by the way, the deadline for people in new jersey to register to vote. the deadlines in pennsylvania and delaware have already passed. i am voting for donald trump. i'll yield the balance of my time back to the senator so that he can now answer that question. >> well, thanks. i mean katie started her campaign with a lie that was called a pants on fire lie. >> new at 11:00, fighting words. senator pat toomey and katie mcginty battle in their first debate tonight. for months we've seen the accusations flying in their campaign ads. tonight pennsylvania senate candidates made those allegations face to face and nbc10's keith jones is here with the details. >> the first debate was heated from the start.

it felt like their attack ads we're all so used to seeing. they both called each other liars and addressed how they became millionaires. we have seen the ads. >> billionaire pal pat toomey. >> millionaire katie mcginty. >> reporter: now they spar face to face. senator toomey accused mcginty of personally benefiting from taxpayers. >> pennsylvania pax tayers lost their money, but katie is a multimillionaire now. worked out nicely for her. >> he's repeated this story line throughout his campaign that has been so 100% negative. >> reporter: she went on to hammer the incumbent republican. >> 100% -- >> reporter: about his support for donald trump. >> the senator is the only person running for united states senate in the united states of america who has not told his constituents how he's going to vote. i think it's past time. >> reporter: senator toomey's response? he needs more time. >> we've got two badly flawed candidates. i can't believe in a country of 300 million this is what we've got. but katie mcginty, she can't even bring herself to

acknowledge the incredible flaws of the candidate of her party. >> reporter: he did say he would probably reveal his vote before the election. perhaps the most contentious moment, whether law enforcement agencies have supported them. >> they've all endorsed me in this race. none of them have endorsed katie mcginty. >> that's not true. i have been endorsed by -- >> what police fop has endorsed you? >> i have been endorsed as well. >> their next debate is seven days from tonight, next monday here in philadelphia. keith jones, nbc10 news. kathleen kane will go to jail if prosecutors handle her case have any say in the matter. she'll be sentenced next month. prosecutors are expected to seek jail or prison time. the 50-year-old is reportedly going to ask, though, for house arrest. back in august, a jury found her guilty of leaking grand jury information and lying about it. a young father shot in cold blood. tonight new details in the investigation that has

philadelphia police searching for two killers. nbc10's denise nakano is live for us at police headquarters with new information tonight. denise? >> reporter: jim, police recovered surveillance video and sources tell me it appears that the suspects were staking out the victim. they waited for him to leave his house to run errands and shot him as his wife and son were inside the home. >> he's not the guy who would get into trouble or anything. >> reporter: disbelief in the northeast philadelphia neighborhood where johnny ca za doe worked as a barber. it closed its doors early for the night to honor the young father's memory. >> i haven't seen nothing bad from this guy. it's a shame. >> reporter: junior is a close friend of kay za da and has known him for the past six years as a fro vieder for his family here and for his mother in the dominican republic. >> he was very dedicated just like he was dedicated to his family, he was dedicated to his customers. and everybody is suffering. >> reporter: gunned down outside his house in long crest last night, we found many of his family and friends like junior and his sister-in-law with

lasting impressions of the father of a 1-year-old son. but too scared to show their faces on camera. >> calls him and tells come home. i heard two shots. he said it was me. i'm on the ground. come bring me water. i'm thirsty. >> reporter: police say committee za da left his home to buy toothpaste after a night out at the movies with his wife. gunmen shot him four times at close range. he was able to tell his wife and police two men shot him and took his gun before he lost consciousness and died four hours after the shooting. ca za da's sister-in-law says the family's life line has been taken from them. >> the best person ever. they took someone very important from us. >> reporter: police are in the process of gathering and reviewing more video surveillance. they do not believe this was a random crime and are looking into a possible connection to an altercation that happened recently at the barbershop. reporting live from police headquarters, i'm denise nakano,

nbc10 news. city of philadelphia wants to put an end to youth smoking. nbc10 was at tonight's public hear ago the municipal services building in center city. last week the mayor announced tougher penalties against retailers that sell tobacco products to minors. the city wants to hike the fee from $50 to $300 for businesses that sell tobacco. that money will go toward hiring more inspectors to crack down on youth tobacco sales. people on both sides weighed in tonight. >> anything you can do to get people to stop putting unhealthy things in the body is good. >> there are many ways we can help our children that are equally if not more important without hurting good, hard working people, especially business people that pay their taxes and employ other people. >> the new rule would also prevent retailers from selling tobacco products within 500 feet of any kindergarten through 12th grade school. no sleeves, no problem. nbc10 found people out enjoying the warm night air, and this taste of summer isn't over yet,

is that a mountain lion? that photo has residents in rural south jersey on high alert tonight. the grainy photo of a large cat snapped by a hunter's trail camera in the woods where winslow township and hammen ton meet. those who saw it with their own eyes over the weekend say it's definitely not a house cat. >> it was between 50 and 60 pounds, probably about four feet long, i guess. >> it could be a mountain lion. i don't know if it's a bobcat. i don't know. it was kinds of dark and it was walking in and out of the woods there. >> wince low township police say they can't confirm if it is a mountain lion but they're warning residents to be careful. animal control is stepping up patrols in the area as well. the first step in this process is for the law enforcement profession and the iacp to acknowledge and

apologize for the actions of the past. >> that formal apology tonight from one of the nation's leading police organizations. it comes as a commission here in philadelphia works to repair fractured relationships between police and the communities they serve. nbc10's brandon hudson found out what's being done. >> reporter: at tonight's meeting on police community relations in philly's 25th district, matthew smith had something to say to the police advisory commission. >> the city seems to be in a state of denial as to whether there's such a thing as stop and frisk. >> reporter: smith, who works with the national action network in pennsylvania believes stop and frisk is hurting police/community relations in philadelphia. on a national scale, the president of the international association of chiefs of police made a peace offering to minorities mistreated by officers. >> the first step in this process is for the law enforcement profession and the iacp to acknowledge and apologize for the actions of the

past and the role that our profession has played in society's historical mistreatment of communities of color. >> reporter: although the iacp president didn't specify a time period of mistreatment, he said today's officers should not be the ones to blame for those past injustices. nbc10 learned in philadelphia, internal affairs received more than 500 citizens' complaints about philly police so far this year. it's a 17% decrease compared to 2015. the police advisory commission says in addition to investigating complaints, it is working to hold officers accountable for change. >> making certain that our police department is talking to the neighbors, is listening to what they have to say. >> reporter: but michael blacky, with a watch group, says the community can't just rely on police to change. residents have to as well. >> sit on your step. come out for national night out. join town watch. be the eyes and ears and be the voice. never shut up.

>> reporter: brandon hudson, nbc10 news. the sky was lit up over coastal virginia tonight. >> three, two, one. >> an unmanned rocket blasted off from virginia's wallops island. the rocket is loaded with more than 5,000 pounds of equipment, food, and research for the international space station. the capsule is expected to reach the station coming up on sunday. and clear skies meant the rocket launch could actually be seen from hundreds of miles away. this right here, that's what it looks like in philadelphia, where dozens of people watched the launch from the belmont plateau. beautiful sight tonight. clear skies out there and warm temperatures to continue tomorrow, right, sheena? >> yeah. you know, it's perfect viewing weather tonight because it was so comfortable outside. you don't even need a jacket right now really. and over the next couple days, we still have record heat in the forecast. now, today not so much. the record high was 89.

we got to 82. tomorrow's forecast for philadelphia, 84. record high is 81. wednesday, 84. record high is 80. on thursday, we'll start to cool down a little bit with more clouds and rain moving in. a forecast high of 78. record high, 79. we could get very close as we go into thursday. but of course we'll be watching that. unseasonably warm, but as we go into the end of the week, once that rain gets here thursday and friday, that's our next chance for rain, we'll stay dry until then. that's going to be dropping our temperatures down. so a big temperature drop just in time for the weekend. we will be getting colder. there's the warm air. it's going to hang around over the next couple days, and then that cooler air is going to move in, especially friday. even more saturday and sunday. so that's when you'll really notice that big change. you'll notice it for sure friday, but take a look at what will happen as we go into the weekend. 84 tomorrow and wednesday. thursday down to 78. 68 friday. and then look at that drop to 60 degrees. so we're going about 15 degrees above normal for this time of the year, or about 20 degrees

above normal, i should say, to about six degrees below normal. so this is going to be a big temperature difference as we go from the next few days into the weekend. so if you like the warm air, make sure you enjoy the next couple of days. big area of high pressure is keeping us nice and dry, also pulling in that warm air from the south. that's why we're going to be staying in this warmer pattern at least for the next couple of days. fair mount 84 degrees for the high. redding, 83 degrees. notice plenty of sunshine in the forecast. we don't have any rain coming with this warm air either, so it gives you more of a reason to enjoy it. robbinsville, 83 degrees. newark tomorrow coming in at 83 degrees. very comfortable weather there. here's future weather. as we go into your tuesday, barely any clouds. no rain in the forecast. now we go into wednesday. maybe a few more clouds moving in but still a day where we're going to be in the 80s. now we look at thursday. morning rain moves through. we could have some rain around lunch time. more clouds around. so thursday you'll really start

samaritans. a police dashboard camera captured the frantic scene on the side of weymouth road in hamilton township yesterday. authorities say seven people along with two police officers helped lift a car off a woman. she just crashed into a tree and she got pinned underneath her overturned vehicle. >> can you imagine it could have been myself? i was just trying to lift the car as strong as i could so she can come out. >> the driver has some serious injuries, but police say she is expected to recover. ducks flying is nothing out of the ordinary, but a duck flying on an airplane? that's an entirely different story. meet daniel, he's an emotional support duck, allowed on the flight to help ease a passenger with a fear of flying. daniel wore red booties, a captain america diaper and sat quietly while looking out the window. according to his owner, daniel is certified for his emotional support services. that's a new one on me, john clark. i need one of those.
